Man, it's now 2024 and Nic D has pulled over $74,000 a month now. And, what does he do? He goes and shares how to be as successful as he is. God bless your heart Bro. Thank you for dropping GEMS on us "starving musicians!" New Subscriber here!
Not an artist by any means. Just a mom who can appreciate someone working hard and helping people out! Love your music!
Thank you for the love Megan!
That is so nice of you Megan to give encouragement. This young man keeps it simple. This is me

Independent artists on spotify give a thumbs up for yourself for making it this far and thank you Nic D for so much insights about spotify in the video
You’re the goat for launching this channel
Amazing content mate 🔥🔥🔥👌🏻
Just wanna say, what you are doing is absolutely invaluable. Recently discovered you and Connor and been studying your grind. Inspired me to put together a whole game plan of releasing music and content consistently for 2023. Finishing songs and creating content for the remainder of this year to have a head start and hit the new year with a bang.
Just wanted to express my gratitude for lighting that fire within me!!!
My song will be on 2024 nba soundtrack 🙏🏽 can yall leave a honest comment on my song
What's Connor's channel please, would love to check it out!
(Took some notes if anyone is interested)
5 Things Independent Artists Need To Learn To Go Viral
1. Post on all platforms
-Not just TikTok
-FaceBook Reels
-Instagram Reels
-*RUclips Shorts (monetizing soon)
2. Release music frequently
-Can’t make a living off of having 5 songs out
-Cost efficiency
-First 50 or so songs you release: $250 max budget per song
-The current spotify payout per stream is .003 -.005 cents depending on what country the stream came from
-Nic D Example: 1,000,000 streams per month = $4,000 per month from streaming
-5 songs x 7,500 streams a day = 1,000,000 streams per month
-100 songs x 350 streams a day = 1,000,000 streams per month
-“Would you rather have 100 at-bats or 1 swing?” “Throw more darts, get more bullseyes.”
-Your release strategy should be centered around releasing often and consistently. The more the better.
-The more releases, the ability to create more content.
3. Prioritize the content over the music
-Knowing your goals is crucial. Without this, it is like hitting a moving target.
-If you want to live off of your music, you need to treat your music like a business.
-“Being creative doesn’t make money, operating like a business does.”
-Think of the content first, before you create the song
-People want to be entertained
-“What can entertain someone? How can I make a song to fit that idea?”
-Create a list of great content ideas, then go back and create songs to fit the theme of the video.
4. Don’t obsess over the details
-Done is better than perfect.
-Nic D’s first song to go viral came after 75 releases
-Don’t stress over the little things that don’t really matter.
-Cover art
-Create cover art in canva
-Because you will continuously need cover art, keeping your costs as low as possible here will help you break even on your investment.
-Mix
-Your mix should sound good to the average listener, not to other musicians and engineers.
-Only need to impress the listener
-Playlists, blogs, and ads are not as important as they have been made out to be. Focus on content, audience, and consistency.
5. Surround yourself with like-minded people
-“If you surround yourself with people who want to chill and play videogames all the time, you will most likely want to do the same”
-You are the people you surround yourself with. Choose them carefully.
p.s. Appreciate the advice Nic! Trying to put it in motion!!
Thank you for this!!!
@@WhoIsHXRT got you!!

START OF SOMETHING AMAZING!
Let’s go Nic I’m so glad you started this channel. As a content creator & musician myself, you & Connor are such big inspirations to me & I look forward to learn more here! 😎👏🏼
NIc, quite simply bro you are the torchlight right now! No one wants to admit it, but the old days are gone, and theres just no point in fighting the new. We've got to learn to enjoy what it is you are highlighting because you've proven that its the number 1 way to do this, and fast. Thanks for stepping up with the education content as well man, loved your interview with that cool guy in the kitchen and I for one am a new fan. Picky The Producer.
'It's not easy, but it is straightforward'
Love it!
You have no idea how much I appreciate you teaching other independent artists. You’re a real one
This is a true gem of RUclips 😊
You have no idea how you just put a major battery on my back bro! Just learned about you this year, purchased your book now i'm about ti get busy!!!

Nic D does it again 👏
this is what i was looking for, thanks
You snapped 🐐
I have adhd & the way I feel about all the platforms is so overwhelming🥹. I wouldn’t consider myself an artist I just like to sing. I don’t use RUclips as much as I should have if I would have stayed consistent.
But I came here cause I loveeeeeee all your music & how authentic you are!! The way you’ve been consistently yourself & yourself only all the way through that. So talented! Thanks for this video looking forward to the everything here.
I can’t even express how thankful I am for this
you are a blessing , my next songs are gonna help me feed my family frl
Lets gooo! This is going to be so helpful Nic you are a huge inspiration to me
Luv it, biggest gem for me is the reverse engineering of thinking about what content would work with your audience and then to make a song that fits that🙌🏻
this is keyyy
Solid Breakdown my dude! I would add when making content your phone is good enough! It’s more about substance!!
#5 changed my life for sure hype for this series ! 🔥🔥🔥
The “100 songs” volume breakdown definitely gave me a new perspective.

This video is amazing man, As a artist from South Africa I just want to say thanks and I appreciate the awesome advise.
Soooo good man. I think a lot of this overlaps with how to run a successful podcast but would love a video on tips on podcasting too
just found your channel, bout to eat up this content, nothing but gold here
Thank you❤
this video summarizes like the first eight Q & A vids I watched of the NDPNDNT pod lol appreciate your time Nic!!
i love this, bro. super inspired
I really appreciate this video... Thank You 4 sharing 💫🙏🏾💫
You say it so concisely, no beating around the bush like some other advice channels.
A lot of artists think it’s luck to make a career out of music, and they tell me my situation is “luck” too, but I don’t believe it.
I started releasing 9 months ago and am already making about 150 USD per month and I’m hoping by end of year to be closer to 1000 a month…All it takes is thinking about it like a business and not just a creative artist, which is where the majority of artists fail.
Appreciate you my guy. This type of content helps out so much.
Eye opening in the best way!
how am I just seeing this. gods work
Finally had time to study a craftsman about how to work in the craft. Thank you Sir.
Nic D❤ You are a great mentor to me personally. Thank you!
Great Video! Subbed
I am beyond thankful dude, I am a big fan of your independent podcast with Connor, thank you isn't enough since this is priceless but it's all I have for now. You guys have truly change the direction of my career for the better🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great first video 🎉
I'm a visual artist, and would say a lot of this apply's to us! Thanks for the information brother!
wow. it didn't feel like another 'how to' videos. it felt like we were having a conversation and it was so raw and capturing. thank you so much Nic, it blows my mind how driven you are, there's a lot to learn from you.
happy to hear that! thank you
You are SO RIGHT! It's so personal and motivating.
Great advice Nic! Thanks for the video...I'll have all my students follow you!
Point 2 & 3 are powerful game changers. Casting the net wide when it comes to amount of songs is so important as the math shows. Point number 3 is where most of us are at though, like Nic said everybody wants to be creative but that alone doesn't make money. I tried the "content" game for a few months, making videos like Nic & Connor and for me it didn't work, but it made me realise this.. The type of content you make HAS to fit the genre of music you make. Music is about feeling first and foremost, people play music to match a mood. So if it's too overwhelming to think of yourself as an "entertainer" when you're making videos, change the perspective and think of yourself as a "mood setter". Create your music & your videos based the feeling you want the audience to feel.
I've been preaching some of this same stuff but I've been the only one in my circle to believe, so it's caused me to second guess it, but to see and hear you say it too just lit a fire! Thank you bro!!! I appreciate you. (Switch flipped)
WOW! This is so so helpful! Love this and gonna use all of these tips! I would love if you could touch on song writing!
“sounds like they were recorded in a bathtub” lmaooo this is amazing bro 💪🏽
BIG Love and HUGE Gratitude for this Nic! D! 🙏
This man Nic D is a W
What I do with my music as an independent music artist is thinking of songs that would draw the viewers. I tried doin' the mix and all that, but I realized that music is my thing. Though, thanks for the help. Great vid!!! I have an average of 800 to 900 streams per song, and I hope to grow further from there. Thanks.
Nic this was fantastic, I appreciate you brother!
THANK YOU SO MUCH NIC
This👆🏽💯💪🏽 is just what i needed to hear!!! Thank you bro!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is my new bible and the NDPNDT podcast is my Gospel! I appreciate you so much brother!
I love the eq on your voice
Hi Nick, thank you for supporting independent artists. 🥰 Your success and story warms my heart.♥️ Would you make a video to find out how many Artists struggled in school❓Many Artists struggle with State Education. I believe in a Bespoke Education. My daughter could hardly read, write or spell in school, I used Art and Music to help her spell the words she could not read. Did you know that here in the UK 🇬🇧 Dyslexic Thinking is a valuable SKILL in the workplace now. Linkedin Business promotes Dyslexic thinking.
I am a team player, who would love to help change education with Art and Music so no child suffers the school system again. I would love to hear from all artists that struggled in school and for them to share their stories about education. True stories change lives❣️
I would love to talk to you about this. 😊👍
This is amazing brother! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world.
I think it would be really dope to see your process from writing a song, start to finish, including how you brainstorm the content around it.
Much love! 🙌
This!! ^^ Was thinking while I was watching that it would be super helpful to better understand the lifecycle of a song i.e. how much time passes from song idea to content idea to writing/recording to filming to posting. I have a story in my head that all of these steps are happening in a few days but that could be wildly inaccurate.
Your amazing this makes so much sense thank you so much g no cap. I'm really thankful for you🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is awesome. Thanks so much for making this video! I needed this reminder and push!
"This is the only place where an artist who's actually doin it is teaching you how to do it." And that is exactly the most important thing in every one of these tutorials.
It’s not easy but it is straightforward. Best advice
Yasss that was amazing thank you brother!
i agree! awesome video very straight foward.
This is so valuable. Can't wait to put it into practice. Thank you for sharing
i just loved it man, thanks!
Incredibly helpful information! Thank you Nic D!
Thank you for sharing this! Could you also possibly make a video on camera/film/studio/microphone equipment etc that you might need when trying to film content? I also feel like if I record myself on my phone just sitting in the same spot everyday, people will get bored, so tips on how to spice up content as far as physical setting/equipment would be nice as well 🫠😩👏🏾
you’re a gem! Thank you for this. I’d love for you to talk about playing shows/touring as an independent artist. Giving the quality of your music and your numbers, you HAVE to have had some big tour offers. How important do you think playing live is
could you talk about your short form content? it would be cool to hear how you come up with ideas. whether it’s actual brainstorming or if you just go out and shoot whatever you feel like. i love what you’re doing with this channel!
Appreciate your help ❤
So much value her Nic
Thanks so much bro
and good luck to everyone out there!!
