As previously discussed: THIS IS GOLDEN.
Just a sort of input, if you step up and do gigs in a place that isn't necessarily your style, you will most definitely stand out.
Well, i have found a live band , plays guitars , drums ... but then i am learning chinese bamboo flute and i want to ask them that i want to join their band when i can play it professionally.. you think thats a good idea?
Lol that's good cuz imma rap at my college show
Thanks Nicola! I’m a jazz guitarist and this is exactky what I was looking for so very helpful! I’ve done many gigs in the past but I was never the one making the calls..now I want to start finding my own gigs.
Thank you I'm trying this on Monday, first time for me. Fingers and toes crossed..Ooo
Thankyou for sharing good luck with all your gigs. I think all musicians should be looking out for each other, it's tough enough as it is if it's good let the people hear it sing it and they will come x
I love your videos! Thanks for useful information. :)
Thanks so much for this advice! I've felt pretty frustrated lately because I've wanted to do gigs but I honestly had no idea how to approach everything and kept feeling overwhelmed, so, It's a relief that it actually is this easy. I just have one question. You say that if they don't get back with you over the e-mail, then you should call them back. How long do you wait until you've decided it's been too long and that you should call? A few hours, a day, a week?
Very good!! Thanks 🙏 😁
Thank You! You are a friend to musicians.
This was incredibly helpful. Thanks for posting this video!
I am getting ready to do step 2 which I will hate because I don't like hitting up people for gigs. I guess that may be why some people use an in between be it a real agent or a friend with entertainment connections if they can.
Great video. Thank You!
Fantastic vid and tips - thanks!
Great Advice Your words are very positive with the right approach. Hats off I'm glad I happened on to your work.)
Def all about relationships! Make them want to book you again.
Two questions:
1. How long should you wait after you’ve sent the email before you send a follow-up? (Assuming that they haven’t emailed back)
2. If you have a certain date in mind that your group would be available, how far in advance should you contact a venue? A couple of weeks, a month?
I have done this and reached out to a place that did live jazz music. I said my guitarist and I work as an acoustic duo and I was told that they didn't book for duos. I wasn't sure if that was true since I've seen duos get gigs but maybe it was a nice way of letting us down easy.
You never know what a venue has in mind sometimes. All you can do is put yourself out there and hopefully some of your emails score you a gig.
And what if you only sing cover songs? I'm just starting in this and I only write songs, but I don't have anyone to compose my music, so by the moment I would only sing cover songs...
Honestly cover songs are easier to get gigs with.
Tnx girl🌺. But the covid caused the closure of entertainment places in my city. Also, small group jamming are not usual anymore, people just avoid getting to crowds. Piano bars here are closed, including the one i used to play. Very dampening for musical talents. Let us pray the virus will go away soon and forever🌹
very informative. Thank you
May I see a sample spreadsheet?
Great video, Nicola.
Great advices 👍👍👍😊. Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you soooo much :)
Love you sweetie!
I think I'm in Love! Thank you!
Hi,
Thanks for the info...
Jeff
thx
Or, Get an agent :)
"It gets easier the more you do it" I hope so......after about 7 years off, its the part i don't like, thank you for your insight.
But you didn't discuss anything on price negotiations or anything like that.
Erick Matthew Lynch that's because by the time you get paid you're most likely well known artist and you won't have to fish for gigs they will be calling to book you. Then you can negotiate your prices 😊
Tonya throughJesusImFree that's not accurate at all, I'm not a famous artist, but I still have to book a lot my own payed gigs, and even when I am called up, the idea of price negotiation is usually there.
Just ask them what is fair pay for their performers or what their budget is to pay you. It is that easy. Or find out what they or their competition pays & ask for the pay. There you go. Go for it.
I cant understand the steps
What happened to your agent?
Great tips, but central Florida is the worst place to try and book gigs. You've got a band you know is sounding great, and you've got a trailer full of top-end gear, and everyone in the band is professional as musicians, and you're asking the same wages as all the other bands, and your ass gets ignored while another band who has nothing but cheap pawn shop gear that sounds like shit, and they skills as musicians/singers is basically novice because they can't sing in key or even tune their fucking guitars, and their drums sound like pickle buckets, and they get booked, and repeat bookings at the same venue(s)......I'd like to know why that is. It's like they don't want a real band of musicians, they want a group of wannabes who you can only listen too for about 3 songs then you've got to get the fuck outta there because they're so bad. Can anyone give me insight on that shit???.....I'm sure every serious local musicians anywhere in the country have dealt with this. We played a gig once where the whole audience was loving us, they were buying drinks, food, dancing, and dropped damn near $180 cash in tips at us.......and we were called the next day by the establishment's entertainment person and forbidden from any future gigs there.....uh...why??? I just don't get it.
Sounds frustrating! Did the venue say why you were banned?
Said the music was a little too loud.....although we were never told anything, and nobody at the time thought so. We suspect it's because the customers were dropping 20's in our tip jar instead of the owner's cash register and he got pissed off over that.....basically a jealous sore loser.
I've had similar experiences here in Washington. It appears to me that talent doesn't mean anything when it comes to booking a good show. It's all about who you know and if the venue has enough shitty bands already then they won't even give a new band the time of day to even introduce themselves. It's like they are just bad at business. I guess that's why I haven't seen a venue last more than 5 years around here.
