The processed audio definitely sounds better with or without the firmware update. In a studio setting I see no reason to use the mic 2 but outside in a vlog setting or in my case doing action sports such as motocross or mountain bikes I'm really happy to have a good wireless mic. Easily mounting the mic inside my helmet without wires or a receiver is fantastic and being close to my mouth the audio is pretty good. I'll be doing more testing and posting my own video as soon as it stops raining.
Thanks for doing this! Yes. I believe it definitely sounds better with the new firmware update, especially post-processed. I'm really glad they were able to fix it with the update. Now maybe they'll have some available for separate, individual purchase so I can get another, plus a receiver for my other cameras.
It seems like the update has improved it a bit, just like you I am a big fan of my pocket 3 and honestly just going to have to suffer with the mic 2, like you said not a deal breaker but would have been nice it was more "alive".
audiophile myself - there's a definite improvement with the update. Very much looking forward to the 32bit float...that's a big deal! Glad I found your channel - thank you! Hey, off topic but what do you think about the newish noise reduction features and software (largely AI) in the video production world...? Im hearing a lot more RUclipsrs using them/it (or maybe overusing them a bit...)and they sound robotic to me. Your thoughts?
Hello! Thanks for commenting. I think they can be helpful when used sparingly. I prefer not to use them because like you said they can cause people to sound robotic. I will say that in the summer when my air conditioner is on that noise reduction saved my butt a few times. If using it just to have dead silence for VO in an already treated vocal booth it can clean things up without much degradation. If using as a crutch you will have issues.
Have you noticed the quality is SIGNIFICANTLY worse when connected via Bluetooth vs. the receiver? Mine is a HUGE difference! The quality is trash (e.g., super tinny) when connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone 14 Pro Max, regardless of range/settings.
There's a real sound difference indeed. I'm also into audio ;-). While looking for a good wireless set with 32bit internal recording plus lav-mic possiblity AND a great transfer signal I was left with only the Rode wireless pro as what i am looking for, until I heard about the DJI Mic2 that came out (not separately yet as a set, like version 1). As a sound guy, would you think that it would be a worthy alternative for the Rode Wireless Pro? I just don't like the BIG Rode units (compared with the DJI and others). Also, the Rode units are so glossy and I dislike that big logo on it... So technical wise I think the Rode ones are still the best, but ... maybe the DJI 2 is a worthy alternative?
I haven’t compared the 2 side by side but I did prefer the original DJI pocket 2 mic to the rode’s internal mic. If using them with a lav then the DJI mic 2 is fine. I think either will give good results and similar functionality. If the glossy finish and logo are bothersome than the DJI mic 2 is the way to go. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your answer! Happy New Year by the way. I will wait and see if DJI brings out a set like the wireless pro with two transmitters and one receiver, for that's what I need. I must say that the Rode has the extra lav mics with it and they appear to be good, I heard others say. Since I don't yet have a lave mic set, I do need to take this (price) into consideration as well when making my purchase. After all, I'm working for a non-profit organization, so I pay for my stuff myself. I myself am putting up that high standard, but if I can save a buck without having to give up on quality, then I might still chose for the Rode... Anyway, you indeed helped me, thank you!
Hello, I don’t quite understand when the new firmware was released? I updated to the version from 29.11 (it is the latest on the site) and there is not such a big difference
If you’re listening on a phone you won’t hear a big difference. If listening on studio monitors or good headphones you will hear a difference. It’s not night and day but I find it to be better.
Hello there! First of all great video! Didn`t even otice the possibility for an update I have a question regarding a Rode Lav Mic, when plugging it into the DJI Mic the audio indicator on the pocket goes blank. DO I need a special adapter for that?
The firmware update sounds 'crisper' with a little more bottom end, to my ear.
Yes, the firmware update definitely adds more depth. Big improvement!

Thanks for letting me know about the firmware!
Im surprised they don’t sell these individually yet. Hopefully soon.

I only tried it once with my iPhone 13 Pro. I didn’t hear any issues. What app are you using? I used the blackmagic camera app

What do you think about the built in mic after the update?
It’s slightly better. It takes EQ better and not as muffled.

The audio indicator goes blank? Mine doesn’t do that. Are you using trs lav or a trrs. Trs has 2 rings trrs has 3.
I cant find the firmware.
