Groucho Dances! (Highlights from rare episodes of You Bet Your Life)

- Groucho was prone to spontaneous bursts of dance any time there was music being performed on You Bet Your Life. Here's a 5 minute video compiling many of these great moments.
Whether he's doing an Irish jig, the flamenco, a hep cat jitterbug step, a waltz, a tango, or the bunny hop, it's hard to believe the guy in these clips was around 70 years old. And remember: 70 years old in 1960 was not what 70 years old is now. 70 years old in 1960 was *old*.
Some of these bits I've already posted in longer form as their own highlight clips, but there are several great segments included in this montage that I haven't excerpted before.
In closing, I sincerely apologize for using the word "montage".

One very limber 63-year old man with physical memories from Vaudeville.
We are so fortunate that they saved these treasures. It does not get much better than this.and Groucho was truly a unique one-of-a-kind fabulous entertainer. And he was lucky enough to come from a family of entertainers. All of them were talented .
I was born in 68, but I've been watching a lot of the You Bet Your Life videos lately and love them. More entertaining than most of today's shows. I remember David Letterman in the early days of his show saying that the average folk should come up and be interviewed. He never really did it, but here ya have it, and many of the people are WAY more entertaining than most of today's air-headed "entertainers." This was hilarious.

A multi-talented man. The one, the only, Groucho. He really could dance as these clips show. “You Bet Your Life” was so wonderfully entertaining and allowed Groucho to showcase his comedic talents. I used to watch it as a young boy.

You Bet Your Life was on a local UHF channel at 10:30 PM when I was in high school 40 years ago. I never missed it. Now I watch it and realize that those women I got a crush on are in their mid to late 80s, or dead.

If you haven't seen them go watch the first four Marx Brothers films. Even if you don't get all the references you'll be seeing the greatest comedians that ever lived. Groucho could have done a show based entirely on reading obituaries, death notices and descriptions of horrible accidents and somehow he would have made it funny!
There is just something unique about how he moved. He is very interesting to watch.

It's not all that intelligible in the video, so for those who didn't catch it, at the end of the Bunny Hop segment, Groucho was saying sarcastically to the male contestant, "A fine way to make a living!"

I would like to see lady doing the chicken imitation appear on the Jimmy Fallon show today and see his and the audiences reaction. Great thing about these old You Bet Your Life Shows is there is no political correctness and any and all entertainment goes. Bring back the days of these great TV shows without all the censorship. If something offends you simply don't watch it but don't tell other people what they can and can't watch.

Directors hated working with Groucho, everything he did in a scene was funny, a nightmare for the movie industry, if asked to be serious he would say sure I can be delirious, who are you again?
