Fitting the MachineArt MudSling and Avant mudguard extenders to my BMW R1250GS,

  • This should take you about 5 minutes for each extender to fit. However, my new GS has the BMW enduro bash plate , which protrudes forward more so than the standard one , causing the Avant 's high spots to catch on the bash plate, ONLY when its on the centre stand, when turning the bars from side to side. On the side stand, or when riding there is no issue.
    Gutted I had to take a Dremel to remove the high spots 😢
    Expensive for 2 bits of plastic, but very good quality .
    Be aware that certain knobbly tyres may rub against the rear Mudsling, so check on the machine art website or other forums to see if tyres are an issue. My bike has the Michelin Anakee adventure tyres fitted and although clearance is only small, 5 mm at the least, there is no issue with the tyre rubbing, confirmed by riding the bike using all riding modes, preloads etc.
    The addition of the 2 items should keep a lot of road muck etc off of the BM
    Purchased from Nippy Normans
    www.nippynormans.com/mudsling...
    £189.

    I bought both front and rear fender extenders on eBay and fitted them to my new bike today. No issues with fit or rubbing. Total cost £40. Your video was a great help. Thank you

    I picked up my bike at the end of march, just as winter decided to come back for a week. It broke my heart riding the 25 miles home on wet salty roads but a least it does show where the rear wheel deposits all the road grime and it's a fair way up your calves! I still can't stomach buying the mud sling though 🤣
    Nice video again too.

    Nice job , but £189 for 2 bits of plastic is ridiculous . Your choice of course but i got set from our friends in the far east £26.50 inc Del. Quality seems very good and fitted well although the incuded tieraps snapped as i tightened the mudsling on. just an option if anyone is wanting a cheaper version

      @gsd32i  2 года назад +1

      I know what your saying but the east just copy stuff and have no product development costs . Everyone has a budget and yup there are choices for everyone . Bennett’s did a good piece on Knock off stuff not so long ago , radiator guards etc . Ride safe 👍

    I fitted ebay equivalents which cost AU$37 for the mudsling and AU$20 for the fender extender and they have worked fine for the last 17,000kms. The Machine Art prices are pure gouging and unacceptable.

    Great video! Have you had any issues with the Hayes brakes? They are two piece, and brake fluid tends to leak. Do you prefer the Brembo or Hayes? I ask because I saw them on your bike.

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  Год назад +1

      Brakes simply brilliant. Not bothered that they aren’t Brembo. Hayes is the parent company to Brembo I believe . They’ve sorted the leaking units out so not expecting any issues .

    Hmmmm, I'm wondering what happens when your front end compresses a bit. The cutouts that you did with the dremel will then be "higher" so won't you be back to getting some rubbing on the crash plate?

      @gsd32i  Год назад

    Why not buy cheap chines copies? They do the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Paid under £30.00 For muddling and fender extender! Four years in ..just as good!

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  10 месяцев назад +1

      because they’re cheap Chinese copies , but no doubt made in a factory next to where mudsling make theirs. TBH I didn’t even think about going Chinese…choices choices 🙈

      @@gsd32i thanks for the reply mate..I gotta say it. Altogether a reputable company, made with top grade plastics, I feel my cheap Chinese moulded plastic does the same job. Makes you wonder what the mark up, is! I have to follow up with, this. I would never use functioning, parts or safety equipment..even tho I don’t have deep pockets. Cheers.

      Not really a design booboo......it was my booboo in getting the BMW Rallye sump guard which sticks out more than the oem one!
