I’m buying my new R 1250 GSA in 4 days. I’ve done one full day riding course on one a couple of months ago at the BMW Performance Center. This video is an extremely helpful reference I will be using as a supplement to familiarize myself with my new bike. Thank you 🙏
Definately the most comprehensive description of all this technology I have come across, thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge.
dct,abs,msr,esa....oh my god i just wanna ride and have fun! too much electronics though for our safety. thanks for your explanation, very interesting and helpful. 👍
I now own a 2019 R1250 GS and a 2021 S1000 XR. Your videos have been incredibly helpful to understand all of the key electronic functions. Well done and keep the videos coming!
I've gone from HD to BMW and want to leave the asphalt and go more gravelroads, wheelie and clear obstacles. This video was superb and now I can actually set up my bike the way I want. Thanks a lot
Ok! I'm 2.5 years in and I'm JUST getting to grips with this bike! NOW I understand these settings. Well done! On another note, I was offered a week's work in Riyadh and to get to Heathrow from where I live is either a) a nightmare or b) ridiculously expensive (and potentially unreliable.) So I strapped a small case to the rear and loaded up the old Kriega back pack and off we go. 106 miles and 1hr 45minutes. As you know, the bike parking at LHR is all free. T4 was great: through those huge hydraulic bollards and under cover of a flyover. The big bonus were the ground anchors! I decide to cover it (cheap cover from Amazon - had it for years) big fat hairy Oxford lock and chain - crash helmet chained to the grab handles with a bicycle lock - and off I went! Bit tricky changing outside and not sure what I would do in the depths of winter but I felt it was a big adventure and I was so excited (which makes me smile because I'm 68 this year!). Love your vids - keep 'em coming!
Excellent, thank you for taking the time to figure this all out. Makes perfect sense, as the sales BMW boffin wants to talk to me about the suspension ahead of my test drive. Can't wait to try it now. tyvm :)
Should have seen this a few days ago as it would have saved me time looking through the manual. The suspension changes were explained last year when I picked up my bike but needed a refresher so resorted to the manual. Keep up the good work Paul with these informative posts 😊
Great job. You buy these bikes & the dealer doesn’t know how to operate it. All the accessories are fun. But not necessary if you choose. Excellent bike !
Thank you , thank you , for this video. This was the info I needed , ... , so many options and I use only a few. So when I wanted to change something in the settings I forgot what and how . Very nice video.
Bang on for a clear explanation and real life applications for the BMW 1250 GS wizard buttons. Enjoying my 2021 R1250 GSA on the road and bashing about at Off Road Skills in Wales on their R1250 Rallye models. Amazing what these bikes can do in whatever mode, however the programmable options do help a lot. Newly subscribed to your channel, so I will have a root around to see any content on your KTM 690R you mentioned in this video.
Thanks for the video. For the rider mode, I use road and dynamic a lot and rain when it’s wet. For suspension mode, road can be quite bouncy so dynamic works best for me. I often move the suspension to low when I need the extra assurance on a loaded bike in a gravel car park or when boarding a ferry or the channel tunnel train.
Great job, actually I did forget things that I knew previously, and this was a wonderful refresher course for lazy me. As a short rider, I do enjoy the minimal suspension setting. I did do Enduro Training and forgot to deactivate the DTC while climbing a steep hill with gravel and sand. Needless to say I fell over. Thanks for effort! Greetings, Jim
Thank you I have been completely confused for a year and adjusting from the suspension button relentlessly No I know I can program by mode Thank you so much🤙 You
My 2020 USA model allows turning off ABS front and back. At the BMW riding Academy on the GS you do emergency braking maneuvers on gravel with full ABS, no ABS, and front enduro ABS with no rear ABS. Option 3 was the winner!
Yes, 😂, as I mentioned schoolboy error I had downloaded the wrong manual from the internet and thought I could switch the abs off... hours later and a visit to the bmw dealer confirmed my model now doesn't have that option!!!
RUclipsr Carl on “just the way it is” did a comprehensive coverage of this a few months ago, including discussion with motorrad to clarify the difference between all settings. Worth a look.
Thanks; waiting on delivery of my new (to me) R1250GSA next week, and onboarding as much info as I can. I already read the manual (the correct one! - the VIN is key to selecting it), but this was a great review. Do you have that summary chart that you made available as a download? Ideally as a Google Doc or spreadsheet file instead of PDF? Would be great to make a customised "cheat-sheet" for the bike.
Hi Michael , enjoy the new GS . Not sure how I would do the chart thing . 🙈 quick screen shot and drop into a “GS “file on your phone for reference … ride safe 👍
Thanks for the informative video. I haven't picked my bike up yet so wondered if you could tell me, if you have the riding mode in dynamic and change the ESA to road then turn the engine off, when you restart will the ESA have changed back to dynamic or would it stay in road until you manually change it, or change the riding mode please?
They simplified all this in 2023. Thank God! No more watching hours of videos and days trying to understand the manual. Select Road mode, Dynamic mode and Dynamic pro and be done with it.
Always nice to have the ability to change things a bit , but thankful the menus are not as "customisable" as some manufacturers where you do need a course in menu operation to understand it all.😂
Hi sir, I was a little nervous about my DTC setting on my GS 1250. Was it on…was it off? You reassured me when you said the DTC safety system comes back on when the bike is turned off…if I understood right! Thanks, Marc, Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦 My riding season will begin very soon! 😉🏍
Thanks so much for this info, I was totally unaware of the throttling back part. Btw I’m pretty sure you are over in Jersey? I go twice a year and immediately recognised it as you got to the junction of the A2 and the old station cafe. You lucky man! I love Jersey.
Hi again would it be possible to please send a link to download that great chart you did as I can't seem to be able to download it from your video? Cheers Karl in Oz 😊
Hi Karl, I don't actually have a link. All I have done is screen shotted in from my video and kept it on my phone for reference. It;s been a while since I looked at it and it was good to be reminded of what the things do! Ride safe.😁
Excellent vid again bud, you’re really loving the GS - BMW GS and the hairy GS 😂 Can’t beat the Germans for quality 😃 did you manage to get hold of some flush cut cutters?
I have a question... I have a 30' inseam and when I ride it in the min. height mode, I feel more secure.. What happens if I always leave it in min. Mode??? Any catch?? I don't ride on rough terrain.. Only city and highways...
Hi, it just means that the suspension is not working within its optimal range, I don't think there will be any issues TBH . I would cycle the suspension every now and agin to keep things moving, which is something I do ...when I remember !
ABS is annoying for my bike, but something I have to live with, in enduro it dumbs it down for both the f750gs/f850gs, I believe the f850gs/gsa and the 1250gs you have the extra mode which is Enduro Pro, this completely turns off the ABS on the rear to my knowledge. And to change the suspension from one to two riders, or one and luggage, engine needs to be on as well, makes a huge difference, just done mine ready for my trip to France, one rider and luggage, with the suspension in road + dynamic you can change the stiffness on the suspension as well, for my bike at least, but for the rain + enduro mode those are set to their normal settings.
Folks have just gotta play with it and see what the bike does....I was going to video a bit of hooliganism but didn't want too crash with things turned off 😂 enjoy the tet 👍
@@gsd32i jut under two weeks until I am away, set the bike up the other day, was going to use the soft luggage from mosko moto, but it means I would have to take everything with me every time I was to break camp, that would be a lot of weight to lug around some the TET, so taking my hard lockable luggage, and will leave it in the tent whilst I go out and about, staying at the same campsite for 5 nights, as it is central in Normandy and close to the national park with some of the TET, doing 2 sections in that area, then going to visit some different sites and have downloaded some GPX files from Ride magazine for Normandy tours.
Hi there, got the 2023 1250 GS Ralley. Question, do these run lean when all stock from factory or, is there an easy way to find out if I should make it run more rich? I live in the USA and my VIN was made in Germany. Or, will I get 100k miles on this GS if I leave it all stock and just enjoy it? Just want it to last long time.
