      You have to be careful, not all Fenton is marked and the marks change throughout the years. The earlier stuff 39 to 45 mainly had stickers, and they even changed by the year

      Just a helping hand Dr Brado,the Fenton company has been around for years and years! Earlier pieces had paper or foil labels,pieces get washed and labels are lost! Most pieces from the last 30 yrs or so are embossed with the name Fenton very clearly on the bottom! Hope this helped you out!

I do have the Fenton Milk Glass White Hobnail Ruffled Epergne 3 Horn Flower Vase with clear glass edges and a few others that I don't plan to part with just yet. You are aware that the kids today DO NOT WANT this stuff, but I am happy to display it and enjoy this fine work of art glass. I hope you do more videos like this for glass and pottery. Thanks again. Many of these beautiful pieces were thrown in the trash when they fell out of style, I know my grandmother would go trash picking and found beautiful Fenton and Roseville vases in the trash. Tons of Tarzan books and others which are quite rare by today's standards and an entire first edition collection of Dickens classics.

      Found one day in the free room of our local transfer station 2 large boxes of books! One was a box of early children's book,illustrated by Maxfield Parish,and the o the was a huge box filled with Robert Frost books from the mid teens to the mid 1950's but what's special you ask? Each of the books were writers copies inscribed by frost to his editor !

  • @Snarkapotamus
    @Snarkapotamus 3 года назад

    We've bought/sold hundreds of Fenton pieces and it's a real crap-shoot as to what will sell. Opalescent is always good, but hobnail doesn't seem to be all that popular unless it's a lamp base. The various swung vases can also do fairly well but you have to remember one thing about glassware. Even the smallest of small chips/dings/defect will kill its value. It can mean the difference between a $100 piece and a $10 piece...

    Although these are great items to source and go for good money, many of these didn't sell for the price shown on the screen. The first set actually sold for $239 according to terapeak., not $1000.

    • @TheAuctionProfessor
      @TheAuctionProfessor  4 года назад +2

      You need to look more at the history, and data. It actually sold twice for the $239 you mention, and it was obviously relisted when the buyers didn't pay both times. You can't as well just look at Terapeak, because if you would have looked at eBay solds you'd see it sold recently for around $1,000. If you just search by "Fenton Cranberry Hobnail" you can see it price ranked in that range. Terapeak is misleading, and should NEVER be the only place you look up anything these days. Items sometimes don't show up in the results on Terapeak unless you buy the paid version.

      I agree with Patrick..alot of these sets are not selling for these prices..I did some research and alot are selling for around the 300.00 or less point..which is still awesome if you buy the set for a few bucks..so it's still a good resell I just don't think people should get thier hopes up. People really dont collect these types of items anymore..Millinials are not interested in this type of decor.

    • @edwinvincent5894
      @edwinvincent5894 3 года назад

      Yes,it can be quite good! Keep an eye out for early Cambridge glass,specifically the caprise pattern in the extremely rare tangerine orange color,all other colors from green to yellow and blue generally are $50 for the bowl,but in tangerine orange it's $400 to $600 and yes,actually sold one for the lower figure mentioned! Happy hunting!

    Being an "old time" antique dealer, I've sold a few hundred pieces of Fenton and hundreds more pieces of other fine glassware over the years. While it is true that museum quality glass can still bring respectable prices online, I would strongly discourage anyone from buying glass on the assumption that it will bring a high price on ebay or any other online venue. A check of sold items will show that prices of even very nice colors and sets are quite modest in nearly all cases. Beautiful china and glass that had a ready market 30 years ago just doesn't fit the lifestyle of people with disposable income today. Ask anyone who runs an estate sale business where video games and electronics are far more sought after than glass, china, fine art, and the like. There's still a market but at far lower prices.

    I'm glad I stumbled upon this channel, as someone who has struggled over the last 4 years trying to save things that still hold value from being junked and fetch even a modest amount from any of it, I relish the opportunity to hear what someone in your position has to say about the subject. It's fascinating to see that there are still other auctions making money in spite of the giant that eBay has become in the business. I wish that eBay would prohibit antiques and limit their devaluation of everything to current market goods only. Oh well, like you and your watchers mention, my generation and younger just don't have the penchant for collecting antiques like our parents and grandparents did. Oh yeah, I wanted to mention also, I haven't yet watched any of your other videos so I don't know if this happens in all of them or is limited to this one but your camera's white balance didn't get set properly before you began filming so the entire video I struggled wth the distraction of your skin color going back and forth between a golden tan and an ashy whitish gray. It's probably not very noticeable on phones, tablets and maybe even computer screens but I'm watching on a tv. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know, keep up the good work, I look forward to watching and learning more from your channels.

I tried several different key words on eBay but could not find any examples. How and what category would you list it in. I understand Fenton was the last American glass company of it's type and they went out of business about a decade ago. I got mine from a local rock shop who bought the last of that slag. Same holds true for early Roseville pottery! Early pieces had a foil type paper label,so if you know Roseville and find a piece you suspect is roseville,but isn't marked,remember this free tip! These prices are ridiculous even by late 90s standards. Most of these are ebayers with bid fever that get caught up in the moment. Cranberry is always the most popular followed by the plum (plum is always expensive) that “turquoise” isn’t Fenton turquoise it’s actually called Jamestown and that’s why that cake plate went so high, very limited production on that color. He didn’t even mention Wisteria/Lilac hobnail that wasn’t offere to the public, it’s was commissioned by ShermanWilliams as a promotional gift for a corporate sales competition. I have 11 pieces of it and that’s across close to 30 years collecting. I haven’t been collecting since the bottom fell out in 2008 when the world collapsed. But I can’t see the prices surpassing the hight of the collection boom around 2001

    I have a question:
    I have a huge passion for collecting ceramics & a lot of glass and/or lead crystal🥰. I love collecting these items, not only to enjoy them visually, But To learn about the history/art history, that lies behind it! I've recently been growing passionate about selling many of the items that I find. Simply because I can't keep everything. But, also because it's so hard to pass certain items up, when I truly know that there are others passionate about these items, that could enjoy, value & care for these amazing peices of art! So, it's so hard to pass 'em by.
    **My question is how do you ship items, of this nature, on a regular basis? I've done some homework, and am starting to understand the concept. However, realistically, these are the items that I am attracted to, and I'm finding it extremely hard to find any realistic perspective on how shipping goes within this area? Most of the information available is by so many who specifically refuse to buy & sell ceramics/glass (in particularly medium-large items) Simply due to the difficulties with shipping them. I'm curious if you have an informative, detailed & realistic answer(s) to this question?
    Thanks so much!

    Hobnail milk glass is very beautiful and still very affordable some love it some don't. 7:33 ....Jadite glass is now being replicated and it is hard to tell from the old glass, I have a huge reproduction vase of Jadite made in 1992.
