They've gone all in on the super-high-fidelity cutscene-heavy third person action games as their brand, and it's a solid brand, but unfortunately it's also incredibly time consuming and expensive to do that, so they only make, like, one game a year now. Naughty Dog, one of their star studios, hasn't made a PS5 game that isn't a remaster in the entire time the console's been out.
Tax write-offs aren't cheats or whatever you think it is. It just mean they didn't make money so they don't get tax that amount. You can't be tax when you didn't make money.

Every Gamescom, Playstation is holding some closed door presentations in the hotel i usually stay. Who knows what those were cooking up last month.
8 years in developement and the game couldn't last a single month. Even Anthem and Marvel's Avengers could had a year before they went down. That isn't even counting Helldivers 2 was already a successful live service shooter that they managed to fuck up and lose most of their players. And then they release a PS5 that proved they didn't learn a goddamn thing from how overpriced the ps3 was.

I don't think it's thee reason but I also wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
The decision was probably made more than a week ago, but this certainly doesn't help. More like "we were selling consoles for virtually no profit so that people would buy our games, but we forgot to make games so now we need more profit on the consoles."

Personally, I think Sony was banking on the goodwill from Concord and Astroboy to distract from the price hikes.

Astro bot was originally a PlayStation vr game but nobody remembers it (besides me because it played it)
I actually played the ps4 vr game for it, it oozed charm in my opinion, even though it's nothing more than a tech demo showcasing what the vr headset is capable of.
It's world building started with a ps4 tech demo
