Actually, those things are familiar to me... I've not yet been to Russia, but it seems like it is the same in all of former USSR. it certainly was in Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic states.
I knew about the shoes so I prepared myself for this cultural shock when I was going to the US. But there I still was shocked when my host family simply told me to keep my shoes, even in the carpet. And for some reason the shoes always were clean there! Overall, good video girls, I’d agree with every point.
I would love to live in Russia for a while because the culture is wonderful (studied Russian lit and film in University) but I couldn't live anywhere where they assassinate opposition leaders and throw journalists out of windows.
In Chicago it is also pretty standard to show up with at least a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine when you are invited to a gathering at somebody's house. Also, especially during Winter, the owner of the house will often ask you to take your shoes off and leave them on a mat next to the door. So, you should always wear new, clean socks whenever you're going out just in case :)
3:52 So you had 13 flowers. The number 13 isn't bad luck in Russia? It's bad luck to superstitious people in America. A dozen roses is a VERY common amount to give in America.
As a Russian living in America I have slapped a few of my American friends for keeping their shoes on and felt kinda awkward when I was the only one in my socks in their house…
Usually if offended, russians would tell you straight on the spot. But if you a foreigner, you'll be forgiven in advance, because we know, you didnt mean it, but still people will tell you. Talking to a stranger is quite normal in Russia. Expecially if a guy approaching a girl. It all depends on the way you talk. Just don't be vulgar. If the person keep replying, dont get bumped by his cold look, it means he(she) is willing to communicate.
You’re funny girls and your video is very informative. In Canada, to be polite, you offer to remove your shoes when you enter in a house. The owner will tell you if they want you to keep it. But you have to check if they are clean 😄.
4:15 Ugh this one is SUCH a problem in America. I’m from the US and nearly every time I make plans with friends or family they either cancel at the last second or just don’t respond to texts/calls and then we miss the event. It’s so rude but I don’t really say anything because it’s so common that I almost feel like I’m the rude one for making a big deal about it. Good to know there’s at least one culture out there that still values being true to your word... Also, thanks for the great video! Super helpful! (and funny lol)
Yep. My wife and I threw a party once and not a single person showed up of the 20 or so people we had invited, and nobody told us they were not going to be able to make it. We had food for 20 people and ended up giving a lot of it away to neighbors. It's truly sad that people could be so flaky... I would never feel comfortable doing that to a friend.
There is an old joke about the English: Two British people were stranded on an island for 2 years & didn't speak to each other because they were never "introduced."
@@DariStep So now you know they are not trying to be rude but it's their culture. Here in small town U.S. most people are friendly but sometimes you smile & say Hello & they just look at you or ignore you.
Is it my imagination or are you building a great community of beautiful Russian youtubers? 😉 I loved your video, it was very informative and funny, and finally I have to add that you have interesting superstitions...
Sorry but I have to disagree with some of your things. I'm not Russian but I lived in Russia for three years. First: taking flowers on a date. I had a lot of dates in Moscow. Definitely I never took flowers just on a first meeting with someone for coffee. A couple of times I took flowers on a later date and it was always a disaster. And it was not an even number! Usually I didn't give any flowers to anyone and everything was absolutely fine -- I always had girlfriends, at at least FWBs. Second: shoes inside and dirty houses. I always remove my shoes when I go inside, whether it's New Zealand, Russia, or USA. But despite this the floors in my apartment in Moscow became filthy very very quickly, just from the dirty air. I washed my floors every two to three days -- just wipe with a damp mop -- because if I didn't then they felt gritty and awful under my feet (I hate slippers). In New Zealand I wash hard floors every three months whether they need it or not -- and to the feel they usually don't need it. Third: making plans. In New Zealand, maybe I decide with a friend that we will meet at some place at 2 PM on the second Sunday next month. We don't talk again. I go there at the time, and I EXPECT them to be there, unless they called me to cancel it. in Russia ... no ... everyone calls to confirm that it is still happening. Several times. And if you don't do this, there is a BIG CHANCE that they won't be there, or forgot, or thought I am not coming.
Thank you for teaching us about Russia! I love Russian music, folk music, orchestral and some other genres. Your writers and literature are great and uniquely wonderful. Best wishes from America and thanks for your super nice videos! :-)
I think my sister has Russian genes. She gets very upset if anyone walks in her house with their shoes on. She also has forbidden my nephews from using syrup with pancakes. I once said to her, "who eats pancakes without syrup?" Then, I started Russian RUclips and found out the answer -- Russians don't. My nephews would feel right at home if they ever visit Russia.
Great collaboration! You two had good chemistry and should definitely do more of these. The video and audio were really high quality, did you get new equipment? If so , well done! And thanks for the info, now if I can just save up enough to fly to Moscow...)))

So....my plan of attack will be: barging into Dasha's flat in my army boots (preferably covered in wet mud), with two flowers in my left hand.....or....??😂
My бабочка didn't kill me when I wore shoes in the house and my 2 Russian clients in America did not kill me as well so just a rumor. But I know Asian people do here in America and I hate working on their houses.
Thank you both for doing this! If you did not make this, many of us in the US would offend you. Our cultures are very different so YES....you really do need to tell us these things. Also, do you give flowers 💐 to friends? In Texas, yellow roses are given to friends.
@@DariStep Oh so maybe fruit or sweets? Or if you bring wine how would we as Americans know which wine to bring? There are so many and i am not a wine drinker? And yes i know ... no vodka! Lol
Wow, in Russia there is a superstition that yellow roses predict "treason" or "cheating", no everyone follows it, but...)) They still sell it anyway) And, no, it is not common to bring flowers to friends. Only on birthdays)
Maybe these rules are not just confined to Russia, in the UK some people don’t wear shoes into the house as well. Also, respect should be given in every country.
I agree with everything mentioned except “keep your word”. Most Russians I have dealt with have problems with keeping their words (especially plans) lol😅. *They are fond of canceling last minute so be warned!!* Always confirm meetings 2 hours before.
Germans have the same tradition with flower numbers, and the Scandinavians are similar to you regarding shoes. Similarly I used to take my boots off indoors when I lived in the snow for a long time.
I understand keeping your word, that is important. But I do not live by rules, I am free. I love Russia, it has always fascinated me. However, I definitely will not be visiting 😁
Very good advice! I live in a muticultural apartment building so i was aware of these things. The best is dont wear outside shoes inside. And yes i constantly clean my floors, we keep rugs in front of the door and outside to wipe their feet. I have a question do you go in barefoot or in sock feet. I went barefoot to my Romanian friends apartment and she got me her house shoes. She didnt like bare feet. And i cannot remember to have indoor shoes, i usually go barefoot inside my house or in socks but i need indoor shoes. I keep forgetting. My neice lived 8 years in Europe and taught many of the European ways. I really like many of the customs, they are very cordial and polite. But if i go to my American friends house with food gifts or flowers they say oh you didnt have to do that! Or why did you do that? They should say oh thank you very much. I'll keep trying to teach them. Lol 😘
I do not care about the flowers, but I have anyone who comes to my house to take off their shoes and if someone comes with their shoes on, I immediately compel him to take off the shoes mopping the floor. So it's bettere to enter the house without shoes. Nice video
In san Francisco CA, a lot of people take off shoes at the entrances. Specially when a family have small children or babies inside the house, we demand everybody to remove their shoes so the kids dont get germs. Kind of interesting but not very applicable anymore. Who is visiting Russia these days? Maybe some Chinese tourists? It's a real tough place to get to these days as well. Real low on my list of places to go.
We don't take it so serious. Taking your shoes off yeah and take your shoes off but it's not mandatory. Его приговорили к пожизненному сроку. Это значит, что самое раннее он сможет выйти через 25 лет, по помилованию президента (очень маловероятно), но скорее всего он умрёт от старости в тюрьме
In the U.S. it used to be customary to bring something for the host or hostess if invited to their party. Not necessarily just to visit their home for the first time. I still do, but I'm old fashioned.
Some additional rules. Never shake hands with gloves on. Never shake hands across someone else who is shaking hands. Also, an an office story: working in an office, everyone in the team who arrived in the morning went around shaking hands with everyone else in the team. Every day. Except they didn't shake hands with the women in the team, and the women didn't do this. This was an entirely foreign custom for me but I decided to participate. But on the first day I asked the women on our team whether I could also shake hands with them and they said yes, so I always included them. This strange foreigner modification to the custom didn't catch on with the other guys though.
So when a guy gives you a bouquet of flowers, do you sit there and count them first? I have an image in my head a guy giving you an even amount of flowers, you plucking one out of the bouquet, tossing on the ground, spitting on it, then turning to the guy and saying, "Okay, we can go now."
Hope you enjoyed this funny video ahaha

Его приговорили к пожизненному сроку. Это значит, что самое раннее он сможет выйти через 25 лет, по помилованию президента (очень маловероятно), но скорее всего он умрёт от старости в тюрьме
Hey Dari hey from Dubai
Hiii 👋🏾
In the U.S. it used to be customary to bring something for the host or hostess if invited to their party.
In my previous office men also shaked their hands
@@DariStep without including women? What do you think about this?

So when a guy gives you a bouquet of flowers, do you sit there and count them first? I have an image in my head a guy giving you an even amount of flowers, you plucking one out of the bouquet, tossing on the ground, spitting on it, then turning to the guy and saying, "Okay, we can go now."
