    10 Superstitions!
    3 don't drink with a spoon in a cup
Omg yes, I've a Russian friend and she was thinking there's something wrong with me keeping a spoon in my cup:-)
1 don't whistle inside a house - I've been told this by them too!
5 don't turn back if you are halfway there - now this explains something. I needed to go back to get something I had forgot but they are totally against it. It just didn't make sense and we wouldn't go back and get it. It meant the day was going to be difficult to complete but they were very insistent. This makes life harder, there's no logical reason I can see for it. If there's something you need for your work or whatever, of course you get it. Maybe this is why things don't always get done in Russia? :-))

You are, it seems one of those that listen to and believe Russian propaganda, as it says that Russians are great. They are not. Nationality doesn't determine this. You probably think that Russian women respect men who value traditional values and who dress nicely. You also think that Russian women care about how they look and are feminine. You also think that Russian men are tough and manly. You also think that women appreciate men who buy them flowers. You also think that Russian women are well educated and don't use filthy language and don't behave in a decadent manner. All of these things are prejudices and lies, and they are successfully promoted on social media and RUclips channels, unfortunately believed by every Tom, Dick and Harry that reads them.

If dating culture is about the purchase of things. Then it’s not really about love in the first place.
It’s easy to buy love from a women using gifts.
Projecting wealth buying fast or expensive cars. Larger houses or owning businesses.
Giving cut flowers or hand crafted chocolates.
    Buying jewelry and material things.
    But that isn’t really love.
    It’s the purchase of it.
Real love isn’t about all that material greed. You won’t find lasting happiness in a relationship divided by business or status symbols.
A man willing to buy a woman’s affections or love with gifts. Isn’t going to stand by her after her body changes with age. If they still have money to pay for the buying of another relationship on the side.
You should be more honest about Russia and dating culture.
True love is in those people not obsessed with being treated like a materialistic wannabe princess.
Relationship and marriage do not last if they are built upon these shallow hearted ego driven concepts. Relationship endure because people base their love upon friendship or the creation of a stabile family. A life partnership.
What difference does it make how many flowers a man buys. If it’s to make up for every time he isn’t there or forgot something important. Real lasting a true relationship are not about all that materialism.
It’s not about the popular culture or status.
Real Russian relationships are like that of your parents. Strong enough to raise many children struggling in poverty. Simply because they love each other and couldn’t imagine a world without them.
I think that is the lesson in Russian dating culture you’ve missed. In trying to project an idea that it’s about buying things. Some of the best Russian love stories never cost anything and were through hand written letters.
What has more value in life.
Is it flowers or milk. Romance or friendship.
The endurance beyond all difficultly or the easiest pathway to financial stability.
Flowers are short lived and low in stature where a tree grows taller and stronger over time. Like the love of a good relationship. The tree stands above all those self absorbed flowers. That must start over again every year.

When I was a university student, the СССР was dissolving. And as such, students from the Soviet Union were coming to America to study.
I was fortunate enough to invite a wonderful, smart Russian student for a date; she agreed. I wanted to impress her, so I thought I would memorize a few words. As I walked to the library, I was listening to the radio, and this song was playing. It was perfect. That's the word I would use.
As we met at the restaurant, I opened the door, and I said "after you, babushka." Yes, I called a university student "babushka."
The song on the radio was "babooshka" by Kate Bush. 🤣🤣🤣

There are many similarities but russians and poles are like German and French and Ukrainians are like from Austria and Baltic States Netherlands - you don't confuse them do dont do that to us. People are people of course how and where you grow up influences you but then what kind of person you are can't be judged by where you o your parents are from. Comparisons are frustrating and never fair and they build up more stereotypes.

About Russians and Ukrainians being different peoples - if to choose only between 'yes' and 'no' - I would choose yes, we are. But, as always, there is a but. There is no distinct cultural division between our peoples, but rather an ethnic-linguistic gradient. If you take a person from a northern Russia - from Arkhangelsk, for example, and an Ukranian from Lviv - they will be very different. If you take two people from Belgorod and Kharkiv or, say, from Rostov-on-don and Mariupol - good chances are you won't be able to distinguish who's from where. At the same time it's often easy to distinct a person from Lviv from a person from Kharkiv and a person from Arkhangelsk from a person from Rostov.
Ukrainian often sounds as a completely foreign language for most Russians because they just never hear it in their lives. But if need arises - it takes a really small amount of time to start understand Ukrainian quite well. For me, for example, it was just a matter of hours, not days even.

I would say that in Russia a smile has two meanings. Either you see something very funny or you feel very happy. Or you're just posing for a cute selfie :) So the meaning of a smile is genuinely different. Thus when a stranger smiles at a Russia, it really feels weird. Like, 'Is there something wtong with my hair? Then what are you smiling at? You can't possibly be happyto see me, as I' m not your spouse or best friend". That is what it used to be like when I was a kid.
But now we are becoming a little bit more into smiling.

A few superstitions we have in America are: break a mirror = 7 years bad luck. Or if a cat walks in front of you it’s bad luck. Or if a bird flies into your home one of your loved ones will die. Or it’s bad luck to walk under a ladder. There are lots of them and I have a few I like to follow but not all of them. One I like is if I see a falling star it’s good luck to make a wish and not tell anyone about it. I also hang a horseshoe upside down as it holds all the good luck inside- if you hang it upside down all the luck will fall out.

It's civility, and nothing more. You can tell when someone genuinely likes you. They offer to be of assistance, and go out of their way to spend time with you. 'Do not put clothes on inside out' - It's tacky and people will notice and make fun of you.
'Dont' turn back if 1/2 way there' - More practical than superstitious - unless you forgot the main thing you were supposed to bring, or pooped your pants or something.
'Do not sew clothes while wearing' - Also a more practical than anything advice.'
'Do not give a sharp gift' - I've heard this but it isn't part of the folksy superstition set where I live.
'Be careful with salt' - Actually we do the opposite. A line of salt at the threshold and/or a dash of salt thrown over the shoulder for good luck or to ward of 'evil spirits'
'Find yourself between two people with same name' - We have similar customs for luck - 4 leaf clovers, raining and sunny at the same time, etc.
I've lived all over the western US, and in parts of the East coast. My mother was British-African so I've got a few different cultural inputs.

In the US, feminists today are blind ideologues defined by a seething resentment toward men, children, human biology and the traditional family. Fortunately, only around 7% of women identify as feminists. On top of which, feminists are being further marginalized by the unrelenting attack of our crazed trans radicals who are intent on capturing the female space for themselves.
