You are an interesting lady, your personality is very enjoyable. Funny because my mother was Lithuanian and I was taught European mannerisms and she talked about some of the superstitions you mention. She always say “you’re going to have 7 years bad luck” “that’s bad luck”
In Soviet times there was no requirement for customer service as everything belonged to the State and you were paid anyway. So in shops their attitude was indifference towards customers.
I lived in Hungary for a year. My roommates were a Hungarian and German (and I'm American). They had friends who would show up with like 5 minutes of warning, crawl into bed, fall asleep, wake up a few hours later and join us for dinner or watch TV or something very normal.
I'm Hungarian (born and raised and lived my whole life in Hungary), I always plan my meeting with friends at least 2 days before, but preferably even more time ahead like 1-1,5 weeks. Okay, if you're very young in college like 18-21 it can happen that you don't plan with friends, because you don't have to, but once you start working or maybe have a family it is a different ballgame. Also, are you sure they were just sleeping?
Yeah it was long but very interesting guys. For us Filipinos here we never considered whether you are black or white or yellow or red. As long as you are really in love is such a wonderful thing to experience in life. In fact, we treasured much of foreign women to be our gf or wife to be and accepted by our relatives and family.Philippines is a place to where warm and loving people dwells.
OMG I love the Philippines. Out of all of the places I've traveled, I had the most fun there. The people are very friendly and love to laugh. Very easy to get along with.
I would say that in Russia a smile has two meanings. Either you see something very funny or you feel very happy. Or you're just posing for a cute selfie :) So the meaning of a smile is genuinely different. Thus when a stranger smiles at a Russia, it really feels weird. Like, 'Is there something wtong with my hair? Then what are you smiling at? You can't possibly be happyto see me, as I' m not your spouse or best friend". That is what it used to be like when I was a kid. But now we are becoming a little bit more into smiling.
What i know about Russia is what i saw in the James Bond films. Ok, thanks for the explanation about smiling. I think the same is said about Germans. You are very nice Eli. A smile is a welcoming gesture. Smiling should be taught in schools. I am from Trinidad and Tobago, W I. A con man smiles a lot
I’m Lithuanian. My mom believes most of the superstitions you listed. I don’t believe most of them but if I come back inside after forgetting something, I still look at the mirror just in case. Lol… also, broken glass is good luck but broken mirror is bad luck and if utensils fall when you are at a table that means a guest is rushing over to meet you. There is also not giving slippers as gift to your spouse because they will leave you, etc…
Hello Eli, my second video and its wonderful..I’m not a smiling idiot, one of the things that make me nervous is smiling face, I don’t why until today, thanks!
Eli, I tend to be more serious and don't smile as much as compared to other people I am around. I do smile, but when it is appropriate. I think I will fit in very well in Russia.
I'm russian, live in US, left Russia over 30 years ago and I still have all those superstations. And in fact "do not return home for something" is always happens to be true and turn my day upside down - even if I look at the mirror when I comeback. Also salt thing is so true - always will be some fight. lol
@@abr5819 Russia today is very differen from Russia of 90s when I left there. Last time I went to Russia about 3 years ago I liked it, really got good impression, in fact Im thinking to move there after retirenemt. I found that life is less stressful, more safe any time of the day or nght - less crazy people, in general people are more open and easy going, easy to make friends and Its cheaper living cost and more accessable and free health care. But we will see when time comes, not making plans yet.
lldd11 yeah the land is abit bigger and less developed/harder to develop . I’m from the west , been thinking about Russia/Pakistan places that need a chance to develop. I’d prefer a slower paced life and more freedom . In the U.K. if you fart it’s a crime it’s getting ridiculous. But yeah thanks for your reply . 👍🏻
I grew up in the Southern part of the U S where "southern hospitality" is commonly referred to due to this unnatural friendliness. It may be best related by listening to a song from 1972 by the O'jays called backstabbers. I love learning about different cultures and traditions and you present very well. Thank you for your dedication to excellence
I too am from the south, and what you call "southern hospitality" is really politeness. They have it too in Russia. Just because you're being polite doesn't mean you really like a person. It's civility, and nothing more. You can tell when someone genuinely likes you. They offer to be of assistance, and go out of their way to spend time with you. As a friendship progresses, it is the same all over. Some you can trust, and some you just can't.
Sounds good on paper, but its not the practical case. We both know that pretty much no one smile to appreciate that stuff (we should, but we just don't). We do it to be more socially acceptable or for some other selfish reason. It's like we go to gym to be healthy and live long. But in reality, most of us go there to look good and be more attractive.
Hi Eli, it's a pleasure to hear from you and watch your wonderful videos. Greetings from Coimbra, Portugal. I hope that one day you come to visit this wonderful country planted by the sea.
A few superstitions we have in America are: break a mirror = 7 years bad luck. Or if a cat walks in front of you it’s bad luck. Or if a bird flies into your home one of your loved ones will die. Or it’s bad luck to walk under a ladder. There are lots of them and I have a few I like to follow but not all of them. One I like is if I see a falling star it’s good luck to make a wish and not tell anyone about it. I also hang a horseshoe upside down as it holds all the good luck inside- if you hang it upside down all the luck will fall out.
When I was a university student, the СССР was dissolving. And as such, students from the Soviet Union were coming to America to study. I was fortunate enough to invite a wonderful, smart Russian student for a date; she agreed. I wanted to impress her, so I thought I would memorize a few words. As I walked to the library, I was listening to the radio, and this song was playing. It was perfect. That's the word I would use. As we met at the restaurant, I opened the door, and I said "after you, babushka." Yes, I called a university student "babushka." The song on the radio was "babooshka" by Kate Bush. 🤣🤣🤣
"Товарищ" has shown up in our films, depicting Russians during Soviet times. Which is why you may be getting some people from the USA who use the term. Or think that the term is current. For those of us who are astute, we know that this term is outdated. That "друг/подруга и друзья" is more commonly used today.
In the paramilitary structures (army, police, etc.), there is still an official appeal "товарищ". This is about the same as "sir" in the US Army, with the difference that in the US Army sir goes to the senior in rank, and in Russia to everyone.
I am a month late but am watching this from Phoenix, AZ USA. Thank you for doing these videos. I wish I could have come over 30 years ago. And, you will do real well with the help and discussion and explanation you give on all these topics.
Damn…I think my problem with people in the US it used to hurt my feelings because I come running when they needed something or favor but when I ask the same (they might smile while) say “no” and I felt very sad. I think I relate to Russia mentality more than US. Good job!
Maybe you should realize everybody has a life and could be busy? But yeah get out of here just because we didn’t meet your needs one time or another but have all the other times I guess? 🤦♂️😂🤡 that will happen no matter where you are in the world by the way. I’ve been all over multiple times and what I’m saying is true. This is just something that’s common sense it doesn’t take that much thinking power to understand.. most people are idiots these days though 🤷♂️
It’s that we aren’t fake, we are genuinely happy when we are on vacation or getting to travel in a different country. We’re grumpy if we don’t get enough sleep or are having a bad day.

State of New Jersey USA Great programs Keep up the great job
What i know about Russia is what i saw in the James Bond films. Ok, thanks for the explanation about smiling. I think the same is said about Germans. You are very nice Eli. A smile is a welcoming gesture. Smiling should be taught in schools. I am from Trinidad and Tobago, W I. A con man smiles a lot
You are amazing ! Soft, gentle and smart.
Great video! We actually have a very similar mentality and culture 💞
Beware, of grumpy Russians thank go you have the same culture imagine if you did not??????????????????
Hi
I love the dating part Eli ! ❤️
eli i have watched many of your vids your adorable
Very useful information. Great video 👍
Watching form Croatia, very informative :D
we say "na zdravlje" when someone sneezes :D
@hzubovi1 , What does that mean in English ?
@@papagigo1 "may it go towards health"
@@hzubovi1 thank you :)
@@hzubovi1 we say "God bless you" when someone sneezes .
Beautiful one, Eli, watching from Washington, D.C.
New sub. Very Much like your channel.
Respect.
Thank you because I love Russia very much, I come from Vietnam
Eli, I tend to be more serious and don't smile as much as compared to other people I am around. I do smile, but when it is appropriate. I think I will fit in very well in Russia.
I'm russian, live in US, left Russia over 30 years ago and I still have all those superstations. And in fact "do not return home for something" is always happens to be true and turn my day upside down - even if I look at the mirror when I comeback. Also salt thing is so true - always will be some fight. lol
How’s life in the west ?. better worse same ?

You get some interesting vibes watching this high. Great insights! 👍
Im from little town 15minutes from Brussels, Belgium. Thanks for your video's. I learn alot from them..
The O' Jay's had sexy songs also my wife got pregnant to one of them.
USA and hospitality?
I too am from the south, and what you call "southern hospitality" is really politeness. They have it too in Russia. Just because you're being polite doesn't mean you really like a person. It's civility, and nothing more. You can tell when someone genuinely likes you. They offer to be of assistance, and go out of their way to spend time with you. As a friendship progresses, it is the same all over. Some you can trust, and some you just can't.
Same here!
"Bless your heart."
Your command of the English language is outstanding, great videos too of course.
There is always a good reason to smile or laugh. We are alive, we have life, this is sufficient reason.
totally true and agreed.
ruclips.net/video/Ixyuvdo_Sjg/видео.html
Sounds good on paper, but its not the practical case. We both know that pretty much no one smile to appreciate that stuff (we should, but we just don't). We do it to be more socially acceptable or for some other selfish reason.
It's like we go to gym to be healthy and live long. But in reality, most of us go there to look good and be more attractive.
@@Xlife018 Yes, being sociable is another reason to smile. Now we have 2 reasons. Life just gets better and better.
Absolutely.
Are you Russian?? It’s all the same!!! 😂
Boy, that Eli is a real babe ! I could listen to her talk all day !! Too cute 😍 💕 !
As we met at the restaurant, I opened the door, and I said "after you, babushka." Yes, I called a university student "babushka."
The song on the radio was "babooshka" by Kate Bush. 🤣🤣🤣
Hi...I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia...Thank you for your vlog Eli...👍👍👍
Yea, I know my gf and we talk sincerely when we hardly met Now we are married 40 years to date.
Thanks for nice video Fundi from Toronto Canada.
@@evl1536 in a lot of USA south States sir is still used for everyone as well as a sign of respect. Not just USA military. Ma'am is used for women.
I’m in Bakersfield, California, USA. I love your videos! Be safe there!
I am a month late but am watching this from Phoenix, AZ USA. Thank you for doing these videos. I wish I could have come over 30 years ago. And, you will do real well with the help and discussion and explanation you give on all these topics.
Your so beautiful Eli.just your voice makes me😊
Damn…I think my problem with people in the US it used to hurt my feelings because I come running when they needed something or favor but when I ask the same (they might smile while) say “no” and I felt very sad.

Explaining really well your culture
I'm in the UK 🇬🇧 not in a city I live in the countryside of Northern England. I am interested in Russian culture and history as well as your food and the vastness of your countryside and its treasures. I don't believe stereotypes. Wow, no smiling? Chill out guys! I am happy to be alive so I smile a lot and laugh a lot. I would not be looking for love or something going to Russia and would try to learn as much of the language as I can to get by. I would look forward to learning via your club.
👍👍👍
hey there, I enjoy your vedeos you are adorable and dedicated...love from the Dominican republic.
I love sincerity
Hi Eli, thanks for sharing your videos .. watching from the Philippines
Good points the lady in the store seem ok to me. While over seas Americans and other from the UK enjoy meeting Russians because some made an effort in learning English. While Russian enjoy laughing at them trying to learn Russian.
A lot of Russians in the United States I’ve noticed don’t even make an attempt to learn English.
Eli from Russia..
Awesome show!
I'm watching all your RUclips show from Connecticut, USA
Keep showing us your beautiful country and it's peoples.❤😂
My favorite Russian stereotype is that everyone drinks vodka with bears. I love bears, vodka, and most of the Russians I've met - so I hope that one is true when I visit one day.
I like a good old bear and/or shot of whiskey once in a while too. Salute!!!!
