I have experienced everything you described with the start stop system in my 2013 cvt. The AC or sport mode tricks have never worked for me to get the system disabled, it always kicks off no matter what I do and in the central California sun it’s just not doable, 110° and my AC gets essentially disabled at every light. A workaround which I believe the original owner found out, is to unplug the yard speed rate sensor located in the driver side footwell just to the right of the gas pedal behind the a plastic piece with one clip. When unplugged, traction control,ABS, and start/start is disabled. Idk if it’s for everybody to try but this is the first car I’ve had with any of that crap anyway.

@3meansgo that is the absolute dumbest thing you could possibly do and pinning this comment to the top is so wrong. do you even realize what abs does?? agod forbid when the situation comes and you need to slam on your brakes super hard and you dont have you abs workinng... good luck to you hope you make it out, hope you dont slide into the kid who ran into the street which caused you to slam on your brakes. i havent even mentioned the other systems your disabling to... all cuase you dont like start stop. the best solution for you was to get the 6speed cr-z, the start stop on the 6 speed is flawless and very inuitive. i used to hate start stop too, until i got a 6 speed crz and now every time i stop i want it to stop

I think it's cause at the time I had gone from a e90 bmw to the honda and with it being a hatch I could hear alot of road noise compared to a more plush sedan like the 335i with backseat to cover alot of the rear trunk noise out

Manual transmission is great! You stop at a light, and the engine turns off most of the time. When you throw in first gear, it fires up. You see the red light vanishing, and you're good to go!
And stick shift is really more fun, I think!

Sorry for replying so late, Chuck!
More power is always nice - but I do like the hybrid-concept of this car. I own this car for three years now.
I agree - the car lacks some horse power. In recent years, I've driven some hybrids, and I really have to say, that the CR-Z does it best, combining fun and a little bit of "sportiness" with economy and reliability. All the Toyotas and Kias I've driven so far, were a pretty boring experience. Nice cars, but not as "dynamic" in driving.
Imho, the car would be perfect, if it roughly had specs similar to the Cr-X 16V VTec - 0-60 in roughly 7 seconds, weight-to-power ratio around 7 kg/hp, a little bit of "extra-oomph" from the electric motor, before VTec kicks in, top speed around 138 mph / 222 km/h.
Regarding the weight of the CR-Z, this might lead to roughly 185hp combined.
That should be the specs to get "even Stephen" with the old CR-X, and that was what many were looking for, when the CR-Z came out.
A K-swap might be the easiest way - but I think it would be waaay cooler, if somebody used the hybrid-concept given, with more power from combustion, but from the electric part as well.

I've owned my crz for almost 2 years now and I understand everything you're saying omg. The seats that are so light stains become mega obvious and so easy to appear, the lack of insulation and the road noise ;-; the jolt at the light when you hit the gas after it's shut off. The speed I'm not really complaining on since it's specifically made for the city, which is why the mpg drops off hard at around 55 mph and up.
I've driven my car 1200 miles one way multiple times over the last 2 years and man the lack of noise proofing kills me the most honestly. The seats also aren't super comfortable and ya the dropoff on mpg above 55 is painful, I don't take it to the track so I don't really care about power but I acknowledge that a little bit more of it wouldn't hurt.
I still absolutely love the car though, I think it's super underrated, it looks cool and different and stands out and it's AMAZING for city driving. Plus it's pretty neat to only have to pay $25-$30 to fill up my gas tank and go ~300 miles per trip and everyone else has to pay $60+ to go that distance or like 500 miles per trip. The customization options are to die for as well.

I have a Japanese version, with a 7-speed sequential automatic gearbox (not CVT), the truth is that it has a difference, it's even better than the manual transmission, it runs very well and with the SPORT mode you feel the difference, the other thing is that The seats come in the back and it does not come with the Star stop system, despite having the seats in the back, the space is still small, an adult does not fit in the back, only a child could be comfortable in those seats.

Just seeing these videos for the first time recently. Great vids. I found the Mugen wing on Amazon, i might pull the trigger on that soon. Ive owned my 2011 CRZ, 6 speed manual now for 6 years. Ive loved every minute of it. Super reliable, and the manual is quite peppy in the lower gears, certainly more fun than the Automatic. I dont have anything to say negative about mine except for yhe door handles. They are notorious for breaking (outside ones) both of mine broke within months of each other. Now, i could fix them lol but i instead tied a piece of paracord to the door handle inside and then to the headrest and open the front door by pulling the rope through my trunk lid 😅 lol its worked so well its been like that for 2 years lol (added security i guess) 😆.
I also purchased a $60 Amazon "performance" muffler lol for $12 at the Amazon Bin Store near me and had that installed. Additionally, I cut off the resonator and straight piped it! Best sounding inexpensive exhaust for a Honda Ive ever heard. Think Fast and the Furious Honda Civics from the first movie! Love it lol

Yeah, the IMA system works fine with the stop start with the manual so might be an issue with the auto's...keeping it in gear with the clutch in at lights if you know they're going to change soon also keeps the engine going so there's that too. As for the back seats...unless you got no legs, they useless as hell, I keep mine folded down so i get more space in the back for storage haha. Mine also doesn't have good sound insulation but I've modified my exhaust so I won't like i actually like it, maybe it's because i'm used to older cars too (mine being a 2012 model) this is the most modern car I've owned. I was lucky enough to get clean interior and with some in car lighting (purple LED strips) the whole car glo's inside at night looks sick haha. As for the speed yeah its slow AF compared to my old cars on straights (and i miss turbo noises), but...i feel like it comes alive on the UK back country roads on the twisties it's so much fun to drive it's like a little go-cart haha. Probably boring as hell on big ass American roads though!

Have a 2012 RHD base model in 6-Speed Manual.
    Some points~
    * The silver fabric interior has been holding up nicely for me.
    * CVT was the worst thing about this car, and should have never even been an option, far as I'm concerned, the CVT variant isn't a real CR-Z.
    * The rear seats are completely useless, seriously, you couldn't fit a child in the back if you're an average size person.
    * I'll agree that it is quite loud when it comes to road noise, but I also don't mind it much, since to me, it makes it a little more fun.
    * Relatively low power is a godsend here in IE. Insurance companies will never insure a younger driver like me if the car is classified as "High-performance" (Anything even remotely nippy in reality)
The engine was a common one, and can easily be modified to 200hp, and with some effort, to well over 200hp. (For a 1.5, low-ish weight vehicle, that's fairly decent imo.)
