as a former CRX owner I always liked the look of the CRZ but never cared for the engine options that it came with. I remember hearing that it was the worst hybrid out at the time when it was released.
Blame Honda for screwing up what should had been a slam dunk. All they had to do was basically give the original CRX a modern safety makeover and give different k series engine options and it would had been a home run. Double wishbone suspension all around, better brakes for higher trims, a k20a3 or equivalent for the base model, k20a2 for the Si model, and a k24A2 for the Si-R. They could had ditched all the electric junk and focused on a better version of what was already a winning formula and something the entire Honda enthusiast community wanted. I still wish I bought a CRX Si and an Integra Type R when they were obtainable in very good condition and lower miles. I could had gotten one in maybe 2001. I was only 19 years old in the Integra's final year, but I might have been able to get a used 1998 model or something. Instead, I put a B18C5 and matching LSD transmission in a 94 Civic Si hatchback in like 2005/2006. Put in a bunch of other performance parts over the years too. Had that car until 2017 and it was a great car for all those years. Never left me stranded once and it was a blast to drive. Too bad the older hondas usually sell for wayyyy too much money now. I don't know what a clean and original CRX Si or Si Hatchback or EM1 goes for these days.
Been waiting for this for a long time thank you!! Would love more info about what trans and shifter cables you used as well as how you got the AC compressor to fit.
I used to have one. I loved it. Same pearl white color. I had to get rid of it because my children were born and having a two seater was no longer an option. Sewapped it for an A4. I just got rid of that last year and got an A7. Honda makes great cars. And that car has good looks, and decent performance, minus the power.
This is what Honda should've made the CRZ: a CRX with an Accord's 2.4L engine without the hybrid hardware while keeping it light and tossable while getting great performance and fuel economy.
Sadly the cheapest one out of the 9 for sale in Australia is still $8750 USD, and some are over $11000USD. Would be nice to find one with a broken motor and box to start with.
Oh man. Great job on the swap! I’ve always loved the look of the CR-Z. I have dreams to someday build my own. Hopefully it becomes more than just a dream.
I just finished my k24a swap into my fg2 a few months ago. Runs great. Im constantly daydreaming about what to put another k24a into next. It was extremely easy to build, and im not a mechanic. This would be a great candidate. I live near hasport, and some other great shops for parts, so thats a plus. I wonder how much lighter a crz would be than my fg2.
Sick car. Knowing it’s got electric functions, I’d love to see someone revisit it with a rear mounted single motor along with the front mounted engine. Would be a sick 400hp daily.
Honda planned on releasing a version of the CR-Z with a k-series but due to the engine being too close to the firewall it failed to pass crash testing. That's what I read years ago in Super Street I believe.
I was the one who said that to Aaron Bonk at the magazine. And I don’t believe I said it was too close to the firewall, I just said it didn’t pass crash.
I was so hopeful when this car was a rumor, and i loved how it looked. I was so gutted by the direction they took though. Im interested in seeing how they perform with a k series. K fits are cool but i feel like theyre pretty limited.
I love the idea of a K-swap but I wonder how one of those J-series v6 accord engines would do in here. Extremely underrated engine, just as reliable and over 250hp off the bat with the right suspension would make this a NA monster while retaining all the reliability of a stock engine.
I own the same white CRZ 6spd. I love it and will keep it forever. Again, like the video says, the cost of the battery is a lot. Therefore, I'm leaning toward a K24 swap over K20. The high rev K20 is attractive, but K24 does its jobs as well with the torque. I looked into the HKS Supercharger option, but it was roughly 2x more expensive than the K24 + transmission option. Adding add-ons like a super charger eventually add more issues to the car, so I will just stick to the K24 swap option. I look forward to it.
Its been several years, but is this in AZ? I feel like one of the Brians has like 5 CRX's and a v6 swapped red wagon. I have a crazy idea but hear me out. Take the engine and drive train from the GR corolla and swap it all into the Prius, slap on some wide body mods to accommodate the wheels, and you have an exotic looking 4 door Toyota. All of this is modular and possible since the Prius and Corolla are on a similar TNGA platform. Time to raid the salvage auctions.

Nice job on it ,I have a 1984 crx 1.5
Thank you guys for hiring a hobo and giving him a second chance in life
Been waiting for this for a long time thank you!!
26:10 ripped that thing so hard that even bolts were flying off! 😅
you guys are just building the perfect honda garage
Always fun to see… but no one makes a rearwheeldrive? I like to see that greets M
I was so very disapointed when Honda bastardized the CRX. A K24 CR-Z sounds like an amazing daily driver :)
hey its your neighbor her in nevada .this is exactly my plan once the original motor retires
And if any are manual
@@ontec7139they all are.
That Vin Diesel part at the end was hilarious!
Great video, love the information shared. Super interesting and makes me want to buy a CR-Z!
250whp+ tune with some goodies and this thing will be sick! Nice work VTA! Need one of these😉🙌
This is a great video. Can’t wait to see more of this car / build.
Very very good video.
White looks good!
Runs very strong. Well done.
Keep up the great videos and info, greatly appreciate all the knowledge!
Lets go! Love the CRZ content
Oh man. Great job on the swap! I’ve always loved the look of the CR-Z. I have dreams to someday build my own. Hopefully it becomes more than just a dream.
Great video guys! Ever since the CRZ was introduced I’ve dreamed of owning a K swapped version. Keep the content coming!!
That's what the crz was supposed to be.
Awesome, this gives me something to think about as well as some hope to start a 2010 Insight project of my own.
Currently working on my K24z7 swapped CRZ, it's also white and I used to have those pf01's lol
These are underrated. I want to see a CU2 bumper swap on a Crosstour with a k24 or k20c4 swap.
The air conditioning pipe assembly acts as a simple heat exchanger, where the suction gas subcools the liquid refrigerant.
I was fixing the A/C on a 1st generation Cadillac ATS sedan and it used a similar A/C hose where the high side line goes into the low side line.
I was so hopeful when this car was a rumor, and i loved how it looked. I was so gutted by the direction they took though.
Im interested in seeing how they perform with a k series. K fits are cool but i feel like theyre pretty limited.
Ohhhh let's goo! Great video and great knowledge. I love what you guys do.
Its not a common car in Sweden, but when I see one I love it.
The Crz is beautiful and a k24 is exactly how it should have came out
This is one conversion I've been wanting to do for years...
Its been several years, but is this in AZ? I feel like one of the Brians has like 5 CRX's and a v6 swapped red wagon. If this is the same Brian, he helped me with some wiring on a B20 vtec swapped crx with shag carpet in it. Amazing work and I'll never forget it. Love the video either way guys! Keep up the good work!
Manual hybrids with vtec. Honda used to be epic! K24 with boost is even better! Cool video and project, makes me miss my Prelude Si.
CRZ SI and Honda Fit SI never happening was a shame.
Couldn’t risk eating into Civic sales😢
The NA induction and general engine sound of the B and K series... choice!
It sounds good and gets the lightweight chassis moving.
Id love more in depth detail on this swap, ive been building a crz project for the last 5 years in the UK with many videos ive made on youtube. Something ive always thought about doing.
I love hatbacks my mom had a crx when I was a kid and I almost got a crz to do a k swap but instead got a Volvo c30 it’s an in-line 5 2.5t 6 speed it’s so fun
@7:11 "we have Emanuel"
No torque wrench for the motor mounts - just eyeing it?? Man you guys are such a fuckin fun channel to watch.
Crz is actually a pretty cool car imo
Like the prelude
We definitely need a video on how to drop one of these in and get it running! always wanted to put one in my crz!
There are a few guys that have extremely detailed videos and written forums about k swapping a cr-z. Even on RUclips I forget his name but he has close to 30 videos each like 20-30 minutes long on every single step you need to do to swap it
His channel is A.Q performance, he's got all the videos you could want. He even has the whole process for swapping a Honda fit too. The crz and fit share a lot of similarities
