Excellent review. I got myself a black Honda CR-Z Sport (manual) about 2 months ago, and have been loving it. I agree with you, I always look back at the car as I walk away! :) I think it's one of the slickest looking cars out there, and has aged very well.

One of the best reviews. I bought a GT version in 2013, mine has now done 50000 miles, so just about run in. If you know how to drive this little baby they are wonderful cars to drive, fantastic road holding and exceptional fun. A very cheap to run and underrated car.

Had a Sport 137 bhp version for 6 years and now over 100,000 mile. Full Honda history ( even at main dealer its not expensive ). It's been fantastic. Totally reliable, economical but nippy when you need it . I've got lacquer peel on the wheels and stone chips on the bonnet but no rust.
Have looked to change it a few times but keep driving back home in it.

Great video. I love your accent. I live in sunny Southern California, so rain -- and rust -- will never be an issue. In the USA, the trim levels were different: LX, EX, & EX-L. There are lots of post-2013 CR-Z's available in the U.S. -- all of which benefit from the switch to a Lithium Ion battery pack and heightened horsepower and torque. American Honda imported this car every year through MY 2016 and kept up a constant effort of up-contenting it to entice buyers, which did not work to improve sales. But the result, for those of us who "get" the importance and value of this vehicle, is that the 2016 version is near perfect and truly realizes all of the potential of the debut car. The U.S. importer grasped how silly the rear seats were from the start and never included them. Instead, we Americans have always enjoyed a really nice compartmentalized storage area behind the seats. Besides, no true sports car has ever carried more than two people. Because of the very small total number of examples brought into the country during the final year, a 2016 CR-Z is quite rare in the U.S. That number is drastically reduced if you want a 6-speed manual transmission because 85% came into the country with a CVT. Finally, only one in six of this final specification were painted Milano Red. I had to scour seven national used car websites, twice each day, for nine months before I found an example that met all of these exact requirements. It was definitely worth the wait.

Your review sold me on getting one of these. I managed to get a 2010 sport spec in pearlescent white with less than 59,000 miles and full service history just 7 days ago - I've already driven about 600 miles this week and have absolutely loved it. £25 per year road tax (UK), cheap insurance, reasonable mpg and Japanese reliability as well as being a hoot to drive. Love the look of these. I'm torn between CRZ and Civic IX atm. My daily commute is essentially 40km of motorway, so perhaps the Civic would be more reasonable, and it has more creature comforts like reversing camera and satnav. But where the Civic is a good solid car, the CRZ is one you can fall in love with, it really takes me back to the two CRX's I've owned in the past. And it's cheaper to own.
Go for practicality, or give in to the midlife crisis? 😀

It’s the Base model with 6 speed manual transmission. Paying only $9750 for the car was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

I've never seen this shade of blue before, it looks really good and a nice alternative to the white (and even the later purple). It's a very nice little car, but I gave up buying one when I realised that the mother-in-law wasn't going to fit in the back. To be fair, I was looking at the RCZ as well, and I don't think the situation's much better there either. Like you said, the facelift model is very hard to find, and I've noticed that GT-T and Sport-T models vanish very quickly. I imagine the Sport-T would be the pick - you lose the bi-xenons with headlight washers, front fogs and the glass roof, but the car is lighter and - here in the UK, at least - an entire tax bracket cheaper.

I need to retire my rusty and trusty 18-year-old Yaris, which has been an absolute star. And I'm so torn. The sensible thing would be to replace it with a 2009-2011 Yaris (petrol, as my budget is limited). But I am so tempted to get a CRZ instead.

As a first car probably not. Visibility is poor. I bought one 8 months ago, great car, but I probably wouldn't have gotten it if the mirrors didn't make up for the blind spots. My mechanic pointed out his wife drives a CR-V, and Honda's mirrors are slanted at the edge as a built-in blind spot mirror. Mine is 2015 and based off someone else's review, it seems the mirrors on my model are better than a 2011. So they do make up for lack of visibility.

Nope. As long as there are no IMA or engine lights on the dash, it should be fine. Test drive it and make sure the battery is charging up and depleting. It does this pretty fast so is easy to spot.

Does anyone have something like this? 2011 manuel. And weird how Europe ones have seat at the back it’s meaningless, its a smart choice of how ours dont have and instead have some storage area kind. Thanks..

Is there a clutch release bearing on the CRZ? That would be the first thing I would look into based on those noises.

    • @Jazda

If it appears when you rev the car and let it drop back to idle it could be something related to the exhaust - cat, back box or heat shields.

I was very surprised that it has no stock swaybar neither at front or back. The back sway doesn't seem much deal as it goes from wheel to wheel without silentblocks on the frame The frame seems to be a marvel but People talk about understeering without that swaybar... What's your take? Thx

It's be a whole lot easier if we all just drove on the same side. In Ireland, we're fairly limited to importing cars from UK or Japan. I'd love if we switched to LHD, so we could benefit from used cars all over Europe.
