For the stalker story: When Damien mentioned the untraceable email, it made me wonder if the husband could trace it but didn’t want to acknowledge that it was his mother
My "what if worse" thought was... what if it was him (or perhaps someone else similarly close) and he took the opportunity of his mother's death to blame it all on her.
@@markstanley6565 100% I had the thought of oh he knows it was his mom and then maybe or maybe it's him. Especially with the, "you must be happy now" comment he made. Like even with a contentious relationship why was that the go to thought?
It’s likely that was not an isolated incident. The mother was probably emotionally manipulating the husband his entire life. To the point where he wouldn’t even think of questioning anything she tells him.

Honesty the update for the MIL/stalking story almost had me in tears. That is a GOOD husband. To come back and apologize and do everything he can for them to both work through it together and the wife respecting his grieving process…seriously they deserve all happiness and hope they can heal together
Yeah, the comment he made was shitty, but given the circumstances, it's HUGE that that's the only thing he did wrong and that he actively apologized for it after :(
There is a lot of unfair guilt that comes with having shitty parents who pass away before you could even entertain the possibility of remorse and reconciliation. His mom is gone and I bet he felt guilt for not trying to get her to be better so they could have a relationship again. Bad parents leave scars that are deep af, and they linger sometimes long after they are out of your life for good.
Yes, I feel so sorry for the husband because he was probably hurt by his own mother too .She was unwell and people are a package deal so she must have emotionally abused him ( I’m saying abuse due to lack of better word) at some point of his life. I hope he’s getting help and doing okay.

It's a hard thing to embrace and accept and he did it on his own while working through his grief. Good for him.
I didn’t like that Damian was quick to criticise the guy for making that comment towards his wife. Clearly the husband was in the middle of grieving and processing heavy emotions can mess with your brain. So of course he couldn’t think straight and blurted out something like that, it wasn’t fair to immediately vilify him considering the circumstances…
the problem with death threats is that police never take them seriously unless you’re someone important. Speaking from an experience that ended in a 9 month hospitalization, unless you’re worth millions, they won’t care.

Honestly, when he finished the story (before the update), I was like "damn, they probably have a brain tumor", just based on the things I've seen/read over the years about how they can really affect your perception of reality. It's sad, but it's a very common thing with folks in that position.
@@JCWM2 It happens both for neurological and some psychological problems. Neurological you can count the effects of CO poisoning, stroke, epilepsy, concussion or dementia. Some severe types of malnutrition or poisoning (ie lead/mercury) can also cause it. Psychological any psychotic disorder applies. It can be an effect of severe sleep deprivation, especially if someone uses stimulants to stay up (be it caffeine or adderall). There's dissociative/fuge disorders that can cause such an isolated change in otherwise functional memory. In class (psych major) we covered a case with isolated replaced memories like OP described. In his case he visited his childhood home and suddenly there was a basement. He remembered a regular wall where the basement door was. His mom and anyone who'd visit said the basement was always there. He tried to prove it was new with childhood pictures. But suddenly a basement door could be seen in the background. After a lot of tests and therapy he went on a guided visit to the basement. When he was there he remembered that his father "mistreated" him there as a young child. He most likely regained knowledge of the basement existing because his oldest son reached the age he was when it happened. Brains are way more breakable than we realize.

Courtney has mentioned doing the same; listening to Smosh Mouth and Reddit Stories while doing their make-up routine etc. I remember them talking about this prior to April 1st - now it's of course even more wholesome that they picked those shows in particular to listen to. ;)
As someone who has experienced grief after losing my brother to suicide I do have empathy for the husband lashing out and what he said. After losing someone I had real anger towards my fiancé because I spent more time with him than my brother since I moved out. What he said was still wrong but early tragic grief can result in lashing out just trying to deal with the whirlwind of emotions
It made me think of the Jodie Foster movie, Flight Plan. She falls asleep and can’t find her daughter and everyone in the plane tells her she got in the plane alone and she doesn’t have a daughter. Great movie
It was also an episode of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. I think it was called Room 212 or Room 224 or something. BBFF can be really cheesy, but that episode freaked me out so bad. It was exactly the way Damien described, but there were other details that made it worse. When the daughter came back to the hotel room, not only was her mother gone, but the whole room had been changed. Furniture moved, drapes and bedspread changed, etc. the originals probably burned to contain the virus.
Amanda and Damien have such a funny chemistry, It's so awkward & yes and coded, like they're both always trying to finish the same joke but in different fonts
Just wanna say that I absolutely love this segment! I listen to two of these podcasts on my way to and from work everyday, and frequently leave one playing on TV while I do chores around the house. Keep up the awesome content! 👏🏻💯
I think it'd be cool to have a full episode that's just one or two posts, and really deep dive into the updates and comments and everything. For those stories that have a really long update it'd be interesting to really read everything for a longer time. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense i'm high af lmfao

Broooooooo I definitely have to say “Reading Reddit Stories” is my altimeter favorite show you guys have put on!! You can literally watch it AND LISTEN to all of them over and OVER again 💜💜 KEEP IT UP KINGS AND QUEENS OF SMOSH 🙏🏽🙏🏽🤟🏽
The first story was a massive hit for me. I lost my father to an almost decade long battle with reaccuring brain tumors. He didn’t know who i was most of the time bc he couldn’t remember anything past my sister being born. So he’d always randomly get confused/aggressive because he couldn’t find his family(he couldn’t remember him and my mom split up, that any of my sisters were grown now), my nannie had a massive face surgery after an accident several decades ago and my dad wouldn’t be able to remember her bc her face looks different than what he was able to remember. It was the hardest thing Ive went through
Small silly story of positivity about my dad: Despite the tumors and awful memory loss, at my brother’s graduation party he got up to the karaoke machine and sang the entirety of the song “Go Johnny, Go”. I couldn’t stop laughing and crying. I was so happy to see him enjoying himself and remembering something he loved, but it was so funny to me that out of everything he couldn’t remember he remembered that gosh darn song. You were the biggest goofball and i try every day to be as funny as you. I love you so much dad, and i miss you more than words will ever explain.
The confusing memory thing from a tumor interests me - what actually happened? Like when OP was imagining stuff that wasn’t happening or things they weren’t really seeing - what was actually happening outside of their perspective?
@@catgirlwarrior9755 i figured that much, i just mean - did OP actually walk around the bathroom not knowing it was a bathroom? Or was the entire memory fabricated and they never had to even go in said room?
It may have even caused memories to cross; my aunts brain tumors did a major number on her. I know there were times she would be on the first floor of her house, go up to the second floor and insist that she was supposed to be in my grandma's home that she grew up. Her brain would suddenly convince her she was supposed to be at my grandma's but the layout was switched because she was actually in her own home.
Sounds like the person's brain got some wires crossed and merged two placed in the memory banks. Our brain stores thing like boxes for easy access and it's pretty simple for those boxes to get mixed up even for a healthy brain. You know that feeling when you have taken the same trip to work 500 times and they all blur together? At this point probably don't even register the individual moments of the trip... That's also what allows us to do repetitive tasks without consciously remembering each instance of the task being performed. They are all filed under "the task" and more specific information is buried much deeper
Damien mentioning Amanda and Angela’s talk about true crime was literally me! I was so hooked and getting so much shit done in my house while listening to them loved it!
I would love to see you do nosleep stories that look like actual reddit post, the whole point of nosleep is the unfiction so it would be cool to see you discuss those as if they are real
The mother in law story - the husband was going to feel guilty either way. If he’d chosen his mother over his wife and his wife then died, he’d be feeling guilty as well. I hope he realises that, and that it’s not the OPs fault.
Didn't click on this episode expecting to get info on ghouls and ghosties but I'm glad I now know. I knew they were different but didn't really know how to explain it. Thanks Damien PS: also didn't expect a huge reality check on Alzheimer's. Holy shit.
Hey, Damien, I want you to know you’re terrific and I get so excited when you’re on the show. I think you are insightful and your perspective of the world is a joy to travel with you. Just in case you needed to hear that.
That first story reminded me of the time I was talking to my sister on the top floor of our house, and when I went to the bottom floor to use the bathroom, she walked out of the kitchen. She didn't pass by me on the stairs, and we had no other way of getting from the top floor to the kitchen. It was also an old house so if she had walked down the stairs behind me, the steps would've been creaking super loud. When I asked her how she'd gotten down so fast without me noticing, she had no idea what I was talking about. I remember walking around the rest of the day feeling super disoriented and confused. I was only six, so everyone thought I was just making things up, but I swear to god it happened. I've had a few other similar experiences with doors leading to rooms they didn't use to, exits in those McDonald's play tunnels disappearing and then reappearing, and even a complete neighborhood I used to walk through to get to school that suddenly stopped being there. Eventually, I had scans done and met with a few doctors, but nothing wrong was ever found. Everyone just figured I had a crazy imagination. I haven't had something like this happen since I was about twelve, so maybe they were right. Still freaks me out, though.
The things you describe reminds me of something I experienced. Some years ago I would sometimes have episodes of suddenly not recognizing parts of town I would frequent and then not being able to find my way home and I just had to wait until it suddenly flipped back and I could get back home. For a while doctors suspected mini-strokes, but then one time it happened when I was on the phone with my sister and I could still talk and remember things. So then they thought it might be epilepsy in the brain, but it wasn’t and after a long time with many doctors visits they found out it was a dissociative disorder. It might have been something similar that happened to you in your childhood. Either dissociation or maybe something neurological they just didn’t catch. It’s quite difficult catching epilepsy in the brain for instance. No matter what it’s good that it stopped happening, because it seems like your system just kinda grew out of it 😊
They are the perfect pair for the spooky! Damien and Amanda are so much fun to see together! Damien and everybody are great to see together, really! I’d like to see him on here with Courtney again.

For the stalker story: When Damien mentioned the untraceable email, it made me wonder if the husband could trace it but didn’t want to acknowledge that it was his mother
I was thinking along those lines as well
My "what if worse" thought was... what if it was him (or perhaps someone else similarly close) and he took the opportunity of his mother's death to blame it all on her.

For the last story, they either glanced over the meth or either the shortened story for time, glanced over the meth. It was the meth causing all the crazy antics, banging on walls etc.
Also, the smell, as an ex addict (6 years, thanks in advance), the best way to explain the smell is like industrial resin. The nasty mechanical kind
As soon as he said "smells like a perm," I said out loud, "it's meth...."
When I was living in the boonies, my closest neighbors (acres away) were cooking it, and whenever I stepped outside, it smelled exactly like a hair perm to me.

@itsnotmeitsyou2926 the thing is, if nobody tells me what that smell is, how will I know THAT is the chemical smell as opposed to a different one? 😮
@@ESPHMacD Especially when his mom may not have been shitty to him. You only know a person through your lens and to suddenly have them revealed to be something else? It's tough and it's even tougher when it's one of maybe two people who've literally always been in your life.
But the CEOs get their own NYPD hotline.

The urban legend Damien is describing in the beginning is an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He basically quoted the whole episode.
In the scary stories series by Alvin Schwartz it’s titles “Rosemary’s Mother,” I believe.
It made me think of the Jodie Foster movie, Flight Plan. She falls asleep and can’t find her daughter and everyone in the plane tells her she got in the plane alone and she doesn’t have a daughter. Great movie
This happens in real life too, for example Daniel LaPlante.
It almost sounded like an episode of The Twilight Zone to me lol

@@redwizxrd the entire memory was likely fabricated, they'd probably forgotten it was a bathroom

Just in case you needed to hear that.
the second story is actually what happened to me , minus the kid. chills knowing that someone else went through something similar to me.
glad youre safe now
That first story reminded me of the time I was talking to my sister on the top floor of our house, and when I went to the bottom floor to use the bathroom, she walked out of the kitchen.
