I dig the hell out of your machine , nice work , I wish I had all my old bikes back , just to do things like this . Simple times , simple bikes , lots of fun , a man , and his machine , maybe some beer .
Wow! What a perfect bike! I have always loved the classic cruiser look and really wanted a HD Forty Eight but not anymore! I'm about to buy my first bike, I'll look for one of these and try my damndest to get this look omfg. A classic to hand down through the generations. You're work is godlike! I only wish I could hear it's true sound for its justice. I took so many pics of it and saw it on the forums. Hello from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada... eh? lol
Thats an absolutely amazing set of curves they have. Ive been looking for a set like them but cant find anything! The rear cylinder exiting right changes the look of the bike hugely. Awesome bike, definitely a go to for any projects i do to mine
The swing arm has mounting tabs towards the front and fender struts at the rear that share the rear shock mounts. The whole fender moves with the rear suspension. It stays that close to the tyre the whole time.
Cheers dude. I painted it with High Temp Matt Black engine enamel paint. Sanded the fins down. Also filled in all the yamaha logos on the cases to confuse the average punter.
What Street said: Highway Hawk, also called Tech Glide I believe. There are also Mapam forward controls and Jardine controls. Look around a bit to see what you like.
Cheers. It's an XL sporty tank. The tunnel cut out, hand formed a new one up. Welded it back in. Pressure tested and epoxy coated so no rust for decades!
Not yet dude, I need a camera attendant! Will get one up soon. I wish that shed was mine! it's just a big recreation shed for show use etc. Perfect for photos. Thanks for the comments! ;)
Ok great. I'm based in Broome at the moment so hopefully a bit more relaxed in regards to the modifications of bikes. I love the short fender look on a bobber so I'll try stick to that and the offset license plate and see how I go. I'll keep you updated!
It hasn't really been cut up. The rear shock mounts were re-located 40mm further up the frame with slightly (10mm) shorter shocks and the rear of the frame (sissy bar mount) has been cut off. The forks have been lowered correctly internally. By shortening the spring spacer and adding a spacer to the top out spring, thicker oil and oil height adjusted. Overall it was lowered 50mm. It rides pretty well.
King Sporty tank, cut up and welded back together so it fits. Shocks are just monza 11in universal shocks. The upper shock mounts were relocated higher up the frame by 40mm. So it lowered the rear about 60mm in total.
Cheers Dan. I'm currently tuning a single manifold from Rob also. Using a Mikuni Tm flat slide. I'll get another video up soon when it's running well. Also a full build page on Facebook. /streetkleavercustoms/
Awesome ! I have a Virago 1100 and I so want to do this , can i ask a few questions ? what paint did you use for the wheels ? how did you make the exhaust ?
To remove all the tach and fuses is a damn tricky. All the fuses have to be relocated somewhere and the wiring loom re-done for the dash panel/instrumentation. It's no easy step by step. You just have to get a wiring diagram and then get into it!
nice bike it sounds awesome, a stupid question here how do u make your engine sound like that have you tuned the engine or is it all the exhaust... forgive me i am new to this lol
They are custom fabricated. 1 3/4". Mandrell bends. Rear cylinder exits right. Engine mounts had to be altered and fuel pump and reserve removed and carb floats re-set to allow gravity feed.
that is one sick scoot, how hard was the fender to swap out... i'm guessing its a custom fabricated one, i'm trying to get a 85 1000 virago and i want to do the rear end pretty much identical to that one, also how much of a bastard was the seat swap?
The offset number plate and rear fender length can cause issues, But I never had a problem where I live. Depending on what state you live in some guidelines are different. There are ways around it. The rear fender can be double the length of this one, and a fender mounted tail light with number plate installed will still look ok.
Anyone know where I can find forward controls for my virago 750. I wanna turn it into a bobber but if I put mini ape hangers on it the foot position will feel awkward
nice work guys. I love that look I want to build my own bobber with something like a XVS1100, or maybe vn800 and was wondering how much it cost to build one up to that level or similair? I want to pay between 5000-7000 for the bike and no more then $3,000 on bobber conversion. Is that possible
Hi, is that original tank of sportsters? Did you have to do much modification to he bottom of it to fit the frame? Where did you get the tank from? Thanks.
That's a King Sportster tank. slightly bigger in capacity. I had to cut the backbone tunnel out of the tank, bend up a new one to suit the Virago frame since at the time the bike was running the stock tein carburetors and the frame is part of the induction system. If I were to do it all again I'd modify the frame instead because later on I converted it to single carb.
sure did man. For the rear the shock mounts were cut off and lifted 40mm then welded back on. For the forks. The top spacer above the spring was cut 50mm shorter, then a sacer was added on the top out spring so it would keep its stock preload.
Hey mate I'm planning to make an '84 Virago 1000cc into a bobber. One of the things that may hinder its progress is the rules and regulations in Australia for modifying bikes. These include the rear fender length and the license plate position. Is your beast of a machine road legal? And if so did you have a problems with either of these items or any tips? The last thing I want is to be pulled over and yellow stickered by the boys in blue.
Not sure really mate. This will be up for sale as soon as I finish jetting the single carb conversion. As for price, I'm just a bloke in a shed, with hobby and a vision. Probably just an hourly rate if it were custom stuff.
You seem to have gone for a classic look with that nice racing decal and the antique brown leather seat. Why, then, haven't you used wider tyres and wheels with spokes.
It's almost impossible to get a spoked wheel for the rear of these bikes, being shaft drive. You can get front wheels anywhere but then you have 2 mismatched wheels.
Cool bike men! I've got a xv1000 and busy making a cool bobber too. i was wondering how did you bypass the reserve tank?. i want to get rid of that thing.!
Get rid of the fuel pump and tank. Run a fuel line with a T piece from the Big fitting on the stock tank (the other smaller fitting a vent for the reserve tank which needs to be plugged. plumb in 2 inline petcocks just before each carburetor and you're done. pretty easy.
Thanks for your quick message! So when you do it like this the carbs will fill up by vacuum right? and you mean a simple petcock like this www.google.nl/search?q=universal+petcock&biw=1920&bih=979&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwi_3YLU6LfKAhXCJA8KHTmnDl8QsAQIHg#imgrc=_OteEKzlmWCWfM%3A I really appriate your help
+Roelof Visser It will just fill up via gravity. As long as it flows well it should be no problem. All I had to do on the Sportster tank was open up the air vent on the cap a little more so the fuel would flow freely.
question, is it not possible to cover the gap between the gastank and steering? it looks a bit strange, like its hanging above the frame....otherwise a very nice look
It seemed to look right to me. But its all up to individual taste really. It could of been shifted forward but I utilized the stock tank mounts for tanks can be swapped IE long range.
Where did you hide all the electrics? Looks like you hid them in the headlight but how the ... did they all fit in there?? :D awesome bike! building one myself at the moment
I'm a aussie and it was just around 9 Litres from memory. So yeah 3.2ish gals. The backbone tunnel of the tank had to be cut out and a new one bent up and welded in. You could mount it further forward. But I just went a little further back to make it a lottle more frisco style. It also all utilizes the factory gas tank mounts.
I dig the hell out of your machine , nice work , I wish I had all my old bikes back , just to do things like this . Simple times , simple bikes , lots of fun , a man , and his machine , maybe some beer .
Bravo ! I didn't think anybody could make a decent bobber out of a XV Virago ! This one is awesome !
i have been drooling over pictures of this bike! soooooooooooo happy i found this video!
Thanks dude. Hopefully the next full build will be just as fun.
Keep you all posted. Thanks again.
Wow! What a perfect bike! I have always loved the classic cruiser look and really wanted a HD Forty Eight but not anymore! Love it!! Great work... Converted my XV700 to single carb. & Accel single fire coil. Performance is awsome!!
That bike looks cool as hell, congrats man
It`s a great fantastic project!!
A real custom bobber!! Very, very nice. Good work at all.
Fantastic !!!!
looks great,, nice build
Beautiful machine! Truly a work of art.
It looks sick man, congratulations !
such a beautiful bike! greetings from Greece
Thats an absolutely amazing set of curves they have. Ive been looking for a set like them but cant find anything! The rear cylinder exiting right changes the look of the bike hugely. Awesome bike, definitely a go to for any projects i do to mine
man that turned out great, Awesome job
It is beautiful. Sounds great.
The Best off the Best bobber !!! Respekt !!!

Warren
beautiful build....the last of the v2 interceptors!
Thats bad-ass brother. Sic job.
Sick build! I’m working on a 96 currently and hoping to have it finished in the next couple of months. Be on the lookout for my vid! Gonna be nasty!
A great machine done right. Ride safe down there in Oz. --- Mickey in The States
very nice custom...
That is sick. Awesome.
Ultra-clean.
serious bit of kit!
Beautiful bike :D
Wish you were in the states so you could build me one. Awesome bike!!
That is VERY cool.
very nice
I wish I could build something like that
gotta get those handlebars!
The swing arm has mounting tabs towards the front and fender struts at the rear that share the rear shock mounts. The whole fender moves with the rear suspension. It stays that close to the tyre the whole time.
That's a sweet motorcycle
Man i'm jell, love your bike!
Near Rockhampton. But west towards the sticks!
Cheers dude.
I painted it with High Temp Matt Black engine enamel paint. Sanded the fins down.
Also filled in all the yamaha logos on the cases to confuse the average punter.
streetkleaver what did you fill it in with?
really awesome
Omg , I love it!!!
woooooow, im in love with this bike *.*

Nice bike maybe build something similar this year...
How does cutting them up like this effect ride and handling? Does it make it impossible to do longer rides on?
It hasn't really been cut up. The rear shock mounts were re-located 40mm further up the frame with slightly (10mm) shorter shocks and the rear of the frame (sissy bar mount) has been cut off. The forks have been lowered correctly internally. By shortening the spring spacer and adding a spacer to the top out spring, thicker oil and oil height adjusted.
Overall it was lowered 50mm. It rides pretty well.
Did you get any problems due the exhaust pipes have different lengths? ?
From memory. "Highway Hawk" make forward controls for Viragos.
King Sporty tank, cut up and welded back together so it fits.
Shocks are just monza 11in universal shocks. The upper shock mounts were relocated higher up the frame by 40mm. So it lowered the rear about 60mm in total.

Awesome ! I have a Virago 1100 and I so want to do this , can i ask a few questions ? what paint did you use for the wheels ? how did you make the exhaust ?
Congrats !! The most beautiful virago I ever seen !! Did you put a high temperature paint or a powder coat paint on the cylinder !?
Can I have the info of your metallic Ammon box.tksss size or where you bought it.
I love this build. The tank looks a bit odd being back that far.....but thats my 2 cents.
yep still convinced, thats mad ....Costa
woww !! really nice bike men !!! sickk ! but where did you put the fuel pump ?

What tank and rear shocks?
Nice shed mate needs more stuff in it. shame the first build of this on DUT went AWOL. Have you got any vids of you riding it?
Its had a few road tests now. Minor teething probs but all sweet now!
It's just a straight through exhaust and jetted/tuned to the new pipes. Nothing fancy. ;)
They are custom fabricated. 1 3/4". Mandrell bends. Rear cylinder exits right. Engine mounts had to be altered and fuel pump and reserve removed and carb floats re-set to allow gravity feed.
The route is same of xv 535 ? And when i can buy ?
that is one sick scoot, how hard was the fender to swap out... i'm guessing its a custom fabricated one, i'm trying to get a 85 1000 virago and i want to do the rear end pretty much identical to that one, also how much of a bastard was the seat swap?

what pipes are those? I tried checking the fb page but it was a bit hard to find anything about it
Anyone know where I can find forward controls for my virago 750. I wanna turn it into a bobber but if I put mini ape hangers on it the foot position will feel awkward
where did you get those rims?
Where did you get that seat? And how much did the bars cost? Sick bike btw
Beautiful! Wish i could find an old gs series for $200 and make one
They are standard on the bike. 19inch front 15inch rear. Painted gloss 2k Black.
Nice bike, can you explain how to remove all the instrumentation ? Thanks !
nice work guys. I love that look
I want to build my own bobber with something like a XVS1100, or maybe vn800 and was wondering how much it cost to build one up to that level or similair?
I want to pay between 5000-7000 for the bike and no more then $3,000 on bobber conversion.

mate wicked build, love the tank! custom?
how much would you charge to build something like this ?

+streetkleaver Thanks for getting back to me.
Wow...! You did a fantastic job. The bike looks great!
I would do it on Virago 250, any advice?
Did you do any work to get it lowered? It's hard to tell on RUclips, but I'm not sure how I'll lower my Virago 1100.
sure did man. For the rear the shock mounts were cut off and lifted 40mm then welded back on.
For the forks. The top spacer above the spring was cut 50mm shorter, then a sacer was added on the top out spring so it would keep its stock preload.
The fuel pump is gone. Gravity fed to the carbs. The float tabs had to be adjusted/modified slightly.

RUclips did an anti-shake edit. Sounded good. Until the Jelly effect. I'm going to see if I can get it changed back
Ive got one like this there great fun get stares everywer ha ha

Awesome bike. Please let me know where you bough the seat. Regards
jorgeirn08 the seat is a La Rosa seat
How much would this bike be worth?
Where did you hide all the electrics?
Looks like you hid them in the headlight but how the ... did they all fit in there?? :D
awesome bike! building one myself at the moment
I hid all mine in the fake left hand air cleaner. There's loads of room in there.
Hey great looking bike, may i ask what you used to black out the engine?
Thanks dude! Just high temp engine enamel. Matt black. Sanded the fins to expose the aluminum again for high lights
Great job ;)
If its in your budget, make 2 rear fenders, one short one longer. I know its annoying but at least you can swap back if need be.
I've got a 92 XV1100, but something like this is way out of my skill range, how on earth did you get it to sound like that?!
Thanks dude. They are just old fashioned straight pipes. No tricks
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. ! LUNCH GRIN WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIW 11
Bella Morris W
hey man would you be able to tell me the diameters of the ammo box maybe? im looking for one myself at the minute
Not off the top of my head. It's just a hand made sheet metal one.
Cheers
C'est en voyant cette moto que j'ai acheté ma virago
Why you shaking camera lol?
It sold for $8500 AUS.
Did you have to jet the carburetor for the exhaust work
Yeah. not major though I think it was just a main jet and a tweak on the fuel screws
Sure did. But it was only a minor tweak from memory
Thank you and one more question? Is there baffles in the exhaust?
Not in the video no. But I did make removable restrictors that slipped in the end of the pipes to quiet them down.
how did you mount the Springer seat on the bike?
What tank is that?
King sporty tank buddy!
streetkleaver how much gal does is it have?
I don't know if i should get the 3.25 one or the 2.4 one
I'm a aussie and it was just around 9 Litres from memory. So yeah 3.2ish gals.
The backbone tunnel of the tank had to be cut out and a new one bent up and welded in. You could mount it further forward. But I just went a little further back to make it a lottle more frisco style.
It also all utilizes the factory gas tank mounts.
That was youtube's great idea of "antishake".. So it gives it that 70's feel that you are on acid...
Camera must run on jello shots, I feel dizzy looking at this.
nice bike though
