Not a word about the most significant aspect of the Spiller & Burr revolver which is hard to fake: the cylinder. Steel was scarce, so the cylinders were milled from iron which was heated red hot and then twisted like taffy to strengthen it. You can actually see the twist pattern in the iron on a real S&B cylinder. Also, the real S&B's had extremely thin, tapered barrels ... again because of the steel shortage. The replicas all have thicker barrels. Finally, a real S&B will invariably have a replacement Whitney loading lever ... because the original iron levers broke.
"Harpo"does not make a good case for this being a fake, as Clark does not either. Confederate S & Bs were known to have perfectly machined loading levers easily replaced by Whitney levers, so hard to tell if its a replacement or original. And the brass frame is hard to replace with a fake, as it is exactly like the S &B and hard to fake . Many cylinders were showing the twist, but not all showed that .
