This song is such a raw exploration of the duality of mourning. How you can rage against the unfairness while still reeling from the misery of loss. Such an underrated song that anyone who has lost a loved one can relate to.
I lost my dad a few years ago and every time I hear this song I sing it angry because "Pulled walked away before your time. I can't stand it, it's very unfair," but then I feel better. These songs are the ones that help you show your emotions a little and when it's over, you return to normal.
I LOVE seeing someone rediscover an old song and see it and hear it differently. Great reaction! Subscribed! I think this song is like a way to grieve giving a primal scream and pure energy.
5FDP version was so great and it helped me to find this original version what is also great! So thank you 5FDP, they did cover to honor and respect Offspring. Both are so awesome! Maybe like bit more Ivan Moodys voice with these lyrics but Dexter also awesome
I am so excited that I finally get to see The Offspring play live in January next year. Smash was a frequently played album during my high school years. The band still kicks ass and writes amazing and relevant songs.
@@davidward9737 define “younger” lol. I’m 26 and grew up with FFDP but most of us are well aware that offspring did it first and better for what it’s worth. FFDP is known for different songs

@michaelserrano3689 You're correct, he wrote this after his girlfriend was killed in a car accident. I don't know what (marc5384152) is talking about, but it has nothing to do with this song if it happened at all. 》Edit/Addition《 I checked out the video and channel (marc5384152) referenced and found that channel has a long history of posting videos with false information about subjects that have a polarizing aspect just to get views and comments on his channel. Stand mic gives more movement, but the mic they used is like a pendulum, which plays more for the atmosphere the video is creating. And I was a college freshman when this tune came out and had dealt with a friend’s death, so to me, the song hit the right beats.
About 7 years ago my mom was in the hospital for the last time. The rest of the family wanted to pull the plug but me and my sister wanted to take a day to talk about it because we knew our mom would want at least that. So we did and decided that it would be best to let her go. So we got in the car and this was the first song that came on. I immediately hit skip and was like, nah not today. Took like 5 years before I finally said ok and didn't skip the song when it came up.
Love this song, such deep meaning. I have heard this song before and absolutely love it. Every word he sings is so true in different ways to different people. Didn't know who did this song so thank you for showing me this beautiful song that I can now put a title to the group who performs this song. Now I must get their CD!!! Loved your reaction. ❤😊❤😊❤😊
People use "iconic" way too often these days, to describe things that are just good, not emblematic of something. This song is truly iconic, it captures the essence of The Offspring, and even the whole rock movement at that point in time.
This is so much better then the Five Finger Death Punch cover, to me anyways. I know people like the meaning of the FFDP video, but I remember when this version came out, so maybe that is why I like it better.
I understand Ive probably forgotten more songs and bands then i remember, and the only way to trigger those memories is to see someone elses reaction or mention
Please, please do the summary at the end :) Otherwise one of my favorite songs. Five finger death punch does a nice cover of this ! And again, your sister has epic music taste!
This song was covered by Five Finger Death Punch with very minor changes to the lyrics and a reaction done by you that you had posted here on RUclips about 10 months ago.
The only Offspring song that is true and heartfelt…. They nail this song to the wall and envelope all the emotions, beautifully….. Their one true masterpiece of pop/rock.
@rayactions Indeed, FFDP did a version of this song, to which you already reacted. But nothing to do with one interpretation with the other. The version by FFDP (a band that I like a lot, although not exactly that version) is simply a normal song, with respect to which the virtues it has are not from the version itself, but from the beautiful composition of lyrics and music from the original song, which Dexter Holland composed after having endangered his life and that of his wife in a shooting in which they were accidentally involved (although there is an erroneous legend that Holland composed it in honor of a deceased girlfriend). However, the original Offspring song is a marvel, far, far superior to the FFDP version, not least because Ivan Moody's voice is a very good voice, but Dexter Holland is simply one of the 40s or 50s (I would say i) best vocalists in rock history.
This is one of my favorite OFFSPRING songs, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH covered it, NOTHING LIKE THIS, this is a great song, Dex is a great singer also has a PHD
@@CoreyWickramasekeraI think the 5 finger version is a song that we have heard the sad depressed loss done better. This hits an emotion not hit as often. A band that did that well back in the Day was Stabbing Westward

my favorite song of theirs, gotta get away being their second and pay the man being excellent. their IXNAY ON THE HOMBRE is an amazing album much better when they're serious than the goofy songs, but those get them money tho
In The Offspring version you strongly feel the anger and frustration that you can't change what happened, but Five Finger Death Punch conveys the sadness better. 2 brilliant versions of the same song
All right then I have a request for you please. There is a group called rainbow. The song would be called stargazer. I just don't know how you could remember this unless your sister listened to the Greatest Hits album for years after its release. Then, why would she know this song? She would have to be a lot older than you, or your parents were into The Offspring and your sister liked it from a very young age.

The original.. Yes!! This needs to get more love over 5FDP since alot of people think they originally did it and it was a remake.
