I think, you like many others here in the commenc section somehow don't see how metal still is a very nice music genre within the music industry. It followes quite naturally that during a casting show which is targeted epecially to find sellable voices a growl, or metal sparks confusion. Metal in a casting show is a huge risk - in terms of winning and selling - so they will react surprised if someone goes with it. Another thing is that while a healthy and proper growl is hard to master, it lacks tone I can do a bit of growling but in clean vioce I'm majorly out of tune. That is why a growling contestant is hard to jugde on singing. This is nothing new or out of the ordenary. If you turn up with something out of the norm people will react "shoked", nothing special about it. As for the jugdes not understanding metal, my arguement would be they understand mainstream quite well to know that metal doesn't sell as much so a metal singer (or someone sho chose a metal song) is harder to sell than pop, and hence they often pass on those people.

I absolutely love when they start to growl! It does get a little annoying when the judges make disturbed faces about it though. I can understand the anticipation of the next singer, but most of the time when I finally see metal singers in these competitions they look dramatically appalled (the best I can describe it for now).
The chinese girls are like Babymetal .. but more death metal. Its awesome! They sound so good together and both have a lot of talent. Its hard to get the screams so good like her. The bulgarian women is awesome as well. Soft and clear are solid and so is her screaming. Stunning. The least i liked the spanish women. Mostly because its not my metal genre, but she too worked hard to get her screams that good. Its absolutely solid and very impressiv. Unfortunately its all about selling numbers and money they could make. You see the jury party and like the stuff they hear but refuse to push the button. (Anyway, i was here for the musicians and was not disappointed)
doing vocal fry as a woman is hard though, so underappreciated edit: actual screaming is damaging. what they’re doing is vocal fry / using false chords.

the Chinese duo was absolutely mindblowing!! they're so in sync with each other and the sheer power of the extreme vocals is NEXT LEVEL. it's so energizing and i'm glad the girls got the recognition they deserved from the judges

My jaw was on the floor through the entire last one.. that was fucking incredible. Not my type of music at all but just mind blowingly talented. That was so good. The performance was great. The way the girl would bounce while singing was great. So talented
1st is amazing. And the 3rd..the asians opened for everything, it's cool. In my country, the people not too open another styles, they dont like Rock, metal, or any inside this styles. Just the popular songs, hiphop, rap, etc. All shits. I really hope, it will change. Respect for the Asians.

It's Double Angel. They are Chinese but they only performed 2 or 3 songs before breaking up because of the growlers parents. Apparently said it didn't look good on her, not a traditional female singing voice.

I would argue they are quite competent. They know the music industry. And knowing that the whole point of casting shows is to appeal to he masses to generate money, metal doesn't sell the way pop does. So while you could have an awsome metal vocalist performing peak growls, screams and shouting, they are not as sellable as a clean pop singer - hence the jugdes now very well to appriciate it but pass on them.
