Great job! If you want to know a "cargo van life hack" - rivet nuts or rivnuts! You might already know what they are but for those who don't, they are threaded inserts you can rivet into a hole to give you a place to use bolts - which means you can un-bolt and re-bolt accessories that can be changed out and replaced with others. I use them in combination with 3d printed knobs to make swapping out gear a breeze. Also if you want I can guide you through changing the 12v sockets on the dash to be only active on key on, it will cost you around 20$ to do it. Great video!
For the dashboard 12v - they'd likely come out easy enough and you could wire in a relay before their power connection, giving you switching sockets instead, might make things tidier :) Great vid thanks for showing us!
My second vehicle which I bought in college was a 1984 Ford E100 cargo van. I built a side bench with storage and a cabinet in the back to hold the spare tire, and a bulkhead with speakers in it. I also started putting carpet on the roof and walls, but never finished. It had a little rust on the outside and the side door didn't latch very well. I loved that thing but my girlfriend (who became my wife) wasn't too keen on it at the time. She says that now she wouldn't mind it, so maybe it's time to get another one. 😁 Looks like you've got your set up nicely for any excursion. Thanks for sharing!
Many years ago I had a friend who bought a plain white van for cheap that had belonged to a butcher shop. Nothing to see here just a very well insulated (nearly soundproof) van with a lot of old blood stains.
On most cars, the power outlets have either a fuse or a relay. Yours probably just has the fuse. If you look in the service manual, it's easy to upgrade for under 10$
Yeah. That was big problem with old cars and 12V outlets. They were just on all the time. I had an '85 Lebaron with the same problem. I forgot twice and replaced batteries and alternators twice.
I used to live in New York. I had to leave because the corruption was so absurd. The cops look for any reason to ticket you even though you haven't broken any laws.
Those Ford always-on electrical (cigarette lighter) outlets are the worst. For my backup/dash cam I eventually cracked open the dash and wired all the way back to the fuse panel. What a pain. I like your cargo net, good thinking there.
A rear side window of some kind is required for registration as a passenger vehicle (vs commercial) in NY state. The side door windows qualify, but the ticketing folks don't always recognize that. A small porthole window is a common sight on otherwise windowless vans that folks want to be able to park in residential neighborhoods.
@@BeckyStern You should write the ticket writers a ticket for not understanding their own motor vehicle laws. It's insane the PD is allowed to waste your time on this.
Swedish words, what is this? Oh, they are names on motorbike models! I didn't know that Husqvarna still makers motorbikes. As a Swede I'm a bit ashamed that I didn't know that. BTW, "Svartpilen" translates to "The Black arrow" and Vitpilen translates to "The White arrow".
Aw, I hope "eaze" doesn't see you imply their tag is not nice! I take issue with the color, not so much the design. I've seen many tags on vans since that make me thankful for the tag I have 🤪
Look, I get it, they are trying to crack down on commercial vehicles that are skirting the rules to gain free overnight parking. I even printed out the relevant law section and highlighted the ways in which we satisfy the requirement and taped it up next to the barcode they have to scan before making the ticket. I can't say that it's completely eliminated the erroneous tickets, but it has cut down on the frequency somewhat.

Cool van Becky! Boo citations!

“Emergency wine picnic kit”? what a great idea.🍷 🧺 🥪

This is a nice setup!

Cool video! Thanks!
Great vid. 9v dashcam ruined several of my batteries same reason.
I want to buy a surplus box ambulance to use as a project van. All of the storage cabinets would be super useful

Best advice your going to get: double limo tint on the rear and side door windows. Your welcome.
Vandemic! That's a perfect title based on the number of van conversion videos I watched during the pandemic.

Nice video. Cool van. Had an E150. Does your friends ask you to help them move? Ha. Mahalo for sharing! P.S. Loved you on Clamp podcast.
Yes but I don't mind, especially if it's on a day when I have to move it for street sweeping anyway!
dig it! like that cargo net!
isn't it neat?!
A couple of Fiberglass kits would have been good to fix the floor too.
Replace the gang tag with a "Free Candy" sign. Also, what's the deal with a port hole window and improper registration?

Did I miss the Ham Shack in a Van? :)
Vitpilen. Nice.
It's a Svartpilen! Too tall for me but Smokey loves it
@@BeckyStern ahha! I wasn't sure so I went with the one I could spell.....;)

Everyone needs a picnic pack 😂
Conrad electronic in Deutschland as well.
ooof....if they are going to tag the van at least they could have a nice tag!

Digi key is a sponsor but don't forget about Mouser electronics. They matter as well.
My bank account begs to differ! 😆
Solar upgrade next? 🙂
I think I recognised the guy in the back of the van.
You've definitely seen him, my fiance, world renowned cinematographer Smokey Nelson, in my videos before!
This makes you seem like one of my in-laws, except you don't have an average of 7 kids.
Uhh... thanks? 😆

Does NYC really have people just walking the streets handing out tickets like that? Jesus.
And a good thing too, someone needs to keep us safe from improperly registered vehicles!

Be careful, you may end up living in a van down by the river.
I can attest to that!
😁
0:08 space behind him is used by entrance to the yard
Girlfriend its time for you to lay down.
2:15 worst thing you can do :D you just made perfect conditions for growing more rust
