I’m going to print the desiccant dryer-outer that you uploaded to Printables (as soon as I print some spools 😅)

As someone who built your original dry box, this video has given me impetus to now move to the bags and dryer as well. Thank you Becky for all the great ideas.

I had a catch 22 situation. I need the humidity to keep my guitars happy, but my filament didn't like it. Ended up buying a weather tight container from Target and a Eva-dry E-333 Mini Dehumidifier from Amazon, to store my filament in. Also got one of those heater boxes from Creality. Happy days again.

I use air tight water tight containers purchased from Target and I put the silica packs from different packages to absorb any residual moisture.

I had great luck with the sunlu dryer. I think I paid £25 for it. In the first month it rescued a whole roll of Ziro PLA that showed up damp. I sent pics of prints before and after drying to Ziro just so that they knew they had to check their stock. Without me actually mentioning refunds they refunded the cost of the PLA and told me to keep it, so the dryer paid for itself in one go :)

You can pick up a set of vacuum bags and a hand pump for not very much money. It's marketed for people storing clothes but works great for filament. I also bought a bunch of reusable silica bags that are made of cotton, and you can microwave them to refresh them back when they have absorbed a lot of moisture. I toss one of the silica bags in the center of the spool after I put that in a vacuum bag, then pump out the air.

So interesting. I love that there can be a second use for silica packs! I didn't know!

Hot tip: Weed paraphernalia webshops often carry large ziploc bags - like 12 by 15 inches, or more than enough for a spool of filament - in small quantities, so you don't have to buy a thousand of them. Dunno if shopping there will put you on any watchlists, though 😝

I did buy a vacuum sealer and a de-humidifier just for my filament - I am sad :D
