vocally B.D. is very nimble in phrasing pitch and constantly underrated. He could have been a great jazzoid if he hadn't decided to reinvent the pop/folk literary song book. thanks for that Bob, and cheers from Vancouver!
I’m glad this movie has brought out so many new Bob Dylan fans. I’ve been listening since I was a little kid thanks to my dad’s great taste, but I never met anyone else who truest appreciated his work.
I’m 22 and most people my age know who he is and all the people mentioned in the comment replying to you. I think older people make a lot of assumptions about what we don’t know that are usually wrong
There are many Bob Dylans his vocal sound is different for each style of song Just when I thought I had heard them all I listened to his album Nashville Skyline in which he sings country songs with a totally different voice. If you didn't know it was him singing you would think it was someone you had never heard before. Dylan is the greatest we've ever had. He wrote 400 sings and is still writing them. He didn't win Nobel prize for nothing.
I saw Dylan perform this song in Brisbane, Australia in 1976. I remember both this song and Hurricane had big conga drum solos in the middle. I remember Bob Dylan was playing a white Fender Strat. It was a great gig, much louder than I expected.
I love how she ended up in on the Desire sessions and the tour - Bob just driving to the studio and seeing her with her violin case and telling her to get in the car. What a talent!
Saw him live for my 33rd birthday. What a show! It was like a party with kids and geriatrics all whooping it up. Best gig I've ever been to. Love ya Bobby Zimmerman
Everyone talks of Scarlet River’s violin playing on the song which ofcourse is exquisite, but the bass playing on this song is so damn fine. It makes the song work the way it does.

"Your heart is like an ocean, mysterious and dark." this guy is a totally unique song-writing genius. there's only one.
I used to jam this song with my dear friend Steve, I provided the heartbeat with percussion. Steve would put so much heart and soul into this song. Steve and I met busking in my home town and became great friends...R.i.p. buddy. :(

Saw the Rolling Thunder tour in Lakeland, Florida when I was in high school. Joan Baez and Dylan did not disappoint.
It was Easter Sunday..April 18 1976....my birthday...had tickets ...couldn't make it!!!
@@kentseverance4547 We missed you! It was a good time. :)
Thanks guys!!! Would have loved to be there with you but my beautiful daughter was fixing to come into this world...so it was still one of the happiest weeks of my life....my friends Ed and Robyn were there with you and I was lucky enough to see him on his 78-79 tour...in fact just saw him in Dec 4....still rockin...still great!!!
Every word came outta this mouth was gold. Dylan I have to meet you once or else my life would be incomplete.
Keep believing and trying. I have met him four times and it was surreal. I give God all the glory.
I loved this documentary and only now found out about the awesome Scarlet Rivera. I love her accompaniment to Dylan, what a treasure to behold.
Dark lyrics guided by an angelic choir of a haunting, brilliant violin accompaniment! Superb longing to touch the hem of transcendence.
This song shows how mysterious Bob Dylan’s songs can be
Mysterious and dark, don't you think? ;-)
Michael Goodall yes sir
As dark as the ocean? :)
you should check out Jack White from the white stripes.. They cover this song, and it is freaky!
You can start to unravel the mystery if you take it that this song refers to pre-Christian, and indeed pre-literate, times; and that the valley below is the Underworld.
Desire Is one of my favourit LP's, Top 10, this performance was magic.
Excellant Dylan at his best great vocals and great lyrics thanks Bob love all your music
'You're heart is like an ocean, mysterious and dark'!!!! And your eyes are like two jewels in the sky :) xxx
I love how the music just creeps up on you slowly
Been a fan of Dylan for about 20 years and I find new meaning in his lyrics as I age. I’ve heard this song 500 times and one of the verses just hit me in a way it never has. What a legend.
vocally B.D. is very nimble in phrasing pitch and constantly underrated. He could have been a great jazzoid if he hadn't decided to reinvent the pop/folk literary song book. thanks for that Bob, and cheers from Vancouver!
Thank you ,Ruby, for turning me on to this album,so many years ago....I wish you well
Iconic!!! Saw this concert in Vancouver, Canada in the Seventies. What a show!!! Scarlett was amazing!!! ❤️
What great footage of a piece of music history.
Scarlet Rivera put the icing on this cake!
omg this sounds amazing with that violin wow
The studio version has a violin on it and emmy lou harris backing vocals. Its a great song.
Scarlet Rivera!!!!
@@stevehughes7896 Steve is correct. Scarlett Rivera See that Scorcesse documentary .
I’m glad this movie has brought out so many new Bob Dylan fans. I’ve been listening since I was a little kid thanks to my dad’s great taste, but I never met anyone else who truest appreciated his work.
What a performer...brilliant , the poetry is unsurpassed
I appreciate Martin Scorsese for this.
I don't know how younger generations can live without knowing who is Bob Dylan?
Give my channel a boost. Visit it! I covered this song and I hope you like it!
Or the Beatles, Elvis or Queen!
I’m 22 and most people my age know who he is and all the people mentioned in the comment replying to you. I think older people make a lot of assumptions about what we don’t know that are usually wrong
Brilliant music. Great style Mr Dylan. Blessings from NZ.
Zimmy and Scarlet owning a night in 1975..... Wicked, twisted and Legendary
This performance is mesmerizing!
Genius. Dylan is an absolutely brilliant artist.
Amazing performance. And Scarlet Rivera is a star. Aine 💕💕💕💕💕
I love how she ended up in on the Desire sessions and the tour - Bob just driving to the studio and seeing her with her violin case and telling her to get in the car. What a talent!
Yes, love the haunting melody of her electric violin. Hypnotic & enchanting...
She was truly the definition of a rockstar that night
Saw him live for my 33rd birthday. What a show! It was like a party with kids and geriatrics all whooping it up. Best gig I've ever been to.
Love ya Bobby Zimmerman
Bob at the top of His game!💟💟💟
What a Great violin Player and Bob was great as always . He is the best
Everyone talks of Scarlet River’s violin playing on the song which ofcourse is exquisite, but the bass playing on this song is so damn fine. It makes the song work the way it does.
A powerful and yet sorrowful longing for transcendence expressed with a haunting violin accompaniment--complete genius!
Slaying that eyeliner
Good to hear this again, been a while since I played the album, Black Diamond Bay is another great one - Thanks
Isis and Knockin on Heavens Door from the documentary, please Netflix!
@Sonny Pickering twas amazing
That Isis performance was astonishing
Knocking on heavens door is his most over-rated song. I like it but it's not a great song or his
@@andrewhoyle1521 Dylans performance was insane though, like when it was McGuinns verse, how Dylan was acting like a madman haha
Isis from Rolling Thunder is really some next level shit. Trascendental.
in the movie he said he was in the south of France and he stayed up all night listening to a gypsy guitarist. the scales impressed themselves on his mind and a week or so later he dreamed this song. a master at work. "Your heart is like an ocean, mysterious and dark." this guy is a totally unique song-writing genius. there's only one.
Dylan is a genius! Thank you so much for your songs.
I used to jam this song with my dear friend Steve, I provided the heartbeat with percussion. Steve would put so much heart and soul into this song. Steve and I met busking in my home town and became great friends...R.i.p. buddy. :(
