the music in the background way too loud, barely can hear what You say
Yep, I forgot to adjust the level of the background music in that short spot in the middle of the demo. The rest of it should okay, though.
Great video, Robert. I bought a ML1 traditional used in mint condition for under 400 dollars and it played like a dream. Had a love/hate relationship with the pickups though. Eventually traded it towards a Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton Stratocaster.
Great video ! Under $600 for a Baritone neck and a beautiful clear finish like that is an awesome value.
I really like the rythm riff that you play at the beginning of the video, very catchy. Thanks for the thorough review.
Glad you liked it!
I wtched rhe video again i dont know why but i could hear this guitar better...And it is impressive
Your upper strings make you sound like a bass player Robert. Beautiful guitar!
Wow, thanks!
Love your tone man and the guitar👌
Thanks!
That's a pretty killer looking and sounding guitar, Robert! Seems like it was worth the wait. Hope you're doing well!
Cool demo Robert.
Sorry to say that lead was too dry. It needed some delay or reverb on the first demo. The rhythm was excellent.
I forgot all about that video. LOL
6 or 12 that's all the strings i need to tune. Don't want 7, 8 n certainly not 18 or 20( lookin' at you Jared n Stevie!) I like that finish n gotta say sounds good to me.
Awesome review. Just came across you. Your intelligence when it comes to knowledge about guitars is awesome. Got a new subscriber because I enjoyed listening to what you have to say. Thanks for the info. Later.
Thanks man! Welcome to the family! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Sounds awesome!
Thanks!
What drop w tuning?? Everyone is tuning down to drop z nowadays.😁 Beutiful finish.
Love it
Pleased to hear that you are one of the lucky ones to be happy with a Chapman guitar.
The clean sound was good, but the pickups are a bit edgy for me.
I will stick with Ibanez, ESP , Schecter etc.
I was trying to sell mine for $300 on Facebook, and got no responses. I guess I'm keeping mine.
What finish?
@@RobertWJackson it's the black Ash Top. The dark grey one.
Tyson I’ll take it!
Damnit RUclips why can't I get notifications for these vids
Yeah, RUclips does that.
Awesome guitar! Try Ernie ball power slinky 11-48 see how you like them? Rock on brother!
Contratz on New Guitar Day, I have one coming myself, should be here tomorrow. Cept I got a new Kramer Assault Plus in Purple. I had old USA Kramers and loved them, Gibson invested a lot into them this year so figured I would give it a try. AMS had one Blemished with small chip on the back for about 30% off, I said why not.
So you did a really good job on this review I was posed here ready to ask a bunch of questions because I have been considering both baritone and a chapman for several years and even a chapman baritone, but you answered all of them. I do not have a baritone yet. The biggest question I have, and I understand you're not a 7 string fan, but I have been trying to figure out if there are any advantages of baritone vs 7 string other way around. Maybe can be an Ask RGD as there are a lot of differences but also similarities between 7 string and baritone. I do have a 7 string Ibanez Prestige hard tail I ran across in GC used section one day for a really good price and it managed to come home with me. You know when a guitar speaks to you unexpectedly, it just needs to come home. The wizard neck on Ibanez 7 strings feel really good. So good, I have been debating another 7 string or a baritone. Chapman Baritone or PRS baritone as those seem to be the best under $1000 but you don't really run into either on the used market often. Plus thats the new Chapman baritone.
I had to laugh too as the color you wanted was the first one that caught my attention and clicked on. Back ordered dang had it not been I might have been sitting here trying to justify buying 2 new guitars in a week.
The biggest difference between a baritone and a 7-string is the scale length, specifically as it affects the string tension. I went the baritone route because I HATE how the low B string on a 7-string flubs out due to not having enough tension. The baritone scale fixed that problem. It also fixes the problem of a 7-string neck feeling like a damn telephone pole because it’s so much wider. However, you obviously do have to give up the high E string on the baritone. Those other two problems irritate the shit out of me enough that I’ll live without a high E string. LOL
I can't hear you over your backing music
I'm kinda on the fence about the gradient/fade finishes. They're super popular right now, but I wonder how long they'll stay in fashion. Like, in a few years are we gonna all be saying "ugh, that finish is sooo 2020..." lol. That being said, it doesn't mean I don't want one. 😀 I'd love to get a zero fret explorer style with a fade finish.
I think they’re kind of like the neon color finishes from the 80’s. Absolutely hideous guitars by today’s standards, but that doesn’t mean people don’t still want them. The neon color finishes are oftentimes the most valuable and hardest to find. The gradient/fade finishes of today I think will merely be a sign of the times that will be remembered fondly by a lot of people.
Loud background music, cool guitar.
Uh-oh, did the background music get away from me?
Yep, it sure did. One spot in the middle of the demo. My bad!
@@RobertWJackson Still a great vid! Thx
Have you tryed elixer strings ?and what's your preffered guage?
I ask because im going to try some 11s
Yep, I like ‘em. I put Elixirs on my guitars that I don’t play as often to preserve the life of the those strings a lot more. As for string gauge, which guitar, what scale length, and what tuning?
Ibanez Rg 25.5 half step down....
I usually go 9-42 or 9-46 in that instance. I like lighter gauge strings. Easier to bend and more comfortable to play.
Thank you again Sir.....
I always wanted a baritone guitar, but I really don't play detuned. I do have a 7 string tuned to standard and that seems to be all I need. Nice guitar, though. Lots of good features for the price. I think all HH guitars should have coil splitting.
The guitar industry does seem to leaning that direction. The last 4 or 5 new guitars that I’ve bought have all had coil-splitting on them whether I’ve wanted it or not. LOL
@@RobertWJackson It's such an inexpensive feature that makes a guitar that much more versatile. I've modified some of my guitars to split. It costs between $1-$15 dollars depending on how reversible I want it.
Hey robert, nice guitar man. This is of topic but I have been eyeballing the ibanez jem jr's for a fun affordable jem. Any thoughts on those?
I’ve never played one, but I know a lot of guys in various guitar groups on Facebook who seem to like them. You could definitely do a lot worse.
At the 3:00 mark you slap it with your ring, idk why it bothered me so much lol
.009s? Mine has .016s on it. Tried 0.013s on it, and it was impossible to tune. But I tune to standard A. Would it be worth the experiment to see how the. 009s do there?
9’s are a little too “sproingy” on this guitar. I left them on there for this demo just because I didn’t want to waste them, but 10-46 or 10-52 is probably where this guitar is going to live from now on. I don’t know what the full string set you’re using is, but if a .016 is your STARTING point, that much tension is probably going to warp the neck over time. Lighter strings on the bottom will also help to tighten up the bottom end quite a bit. See Rick Beato’s video on that.
Trust me, the tension is the least of my worries. Keeping the damn thing from sounding like a sitar is a going concern. I'm discovering baritone setups are a masterclass in the art. Finicky. Might explain why Chapman spent the effort on the fretwork. My next step is to install a zeroth fret, but the bloody instrument has been worked over with six different sets of strings to get it right.
Pickups are a going concern as well. I'm in favor of lower output largely because there is more overall energy in the strings by the nature of the scale length. Danelectro proves this with their baritones. Arguably a good set of Filtertrons or Rickenbacker toaster-tops would be ideal. What would be the lowest-output humbuckers which could remain crystal clear? Dimarzio comes to mind. They always struck me as shrill.
I always had good luck with Gibson '57 Classics, Duncan '59 Model, Jazz Model, Pearly Gates, DiMarzio PAF...
You said you changed to 9 gauge strings right ? I'd rather go 10 gauge.
10’s are probably where this guitar is going to live from now on. I left the 9’s on for this video just because I didn’t wanna waste them, but they’re a little too “sproingy” on this guitar, even for me.
I own 5 chapman guitars
Nice!
Always thought Chapman guitars were cool. Rabea plays the hell out of them.
Dam cool guitar!
Thanks!
Robert's Guitar Dungeon with your camera and how close it gets to the guitar we can see the paint and no one has said about the tuners or given all around tone well at least for me. Stainless is what I want and the pickups sound nice. I never use a baritone but I get everything you say about tension and string gauge. Which other Chapman guitar would you buy?
If I buy another Chapman, it'll be a Ghostfret Pro. But those are a little pricier. I was hoping Rob Chapman might see this video and be inspired to throw me a bone, but the video didn't perform very well. LOL
Robert's Guitar Dungeon yeah a bare knuckle one!
Would you say you could tune to drop b on this is it it too longer scale?
Theoretically, just about any guitar can be tuned to dropped-B if it’s properly set up for it. It comes set up for B standard (B-E-A-D-F#-B) right out of the box, which is the standard baritone scale.
Cool video...i hear that slipknot...lol
Robert you beautiful bastard, you should start a weekly podcast
I do two weekly RUclips videos and sometimes a live stream on Saturdays. I don’t have time for a podcast. LOL
Baritone guitars are amazing. Chapman guitars are the worst. Not worth 100 bucks. Try the cheapest baritone in any other brand. You’ll love them.
Mine’s perfect. I can’t find a thing wrong with it. You must have gotten one out of a bad run or I got one out of a good run.
I just bought that exact guitar today at guitar center in Vegas. Guess what, it’s still there due to the frets being so sharp. Josh the luthier there is gonna fox it for me. I was surprised for new guitar how sharp they were. Hope it plays well after. I’m sure I’ll enjoy.
Interesting. The frets on mine were perfect right out of the box.
Robert's Guitar Dungeon yea mayb the guitar was good in England but with shipping and stuff with weather who knows. But yes I was a lil surprised from Chapman but hey its cool. But yes frets were really bad especially on the bottom. But my boy josh will fix it up right.
Nice riffage
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
the guitar look good but those pups...not liking them. Looks like a good modding guitar to me
I like them, actually. I’m gonna leave them in.
Hi Robert! Thanks for the review! Did you face any tuning stability issues with stock string gauge? Bill from Chords of Orion mentioned an issue in a very similar model from Chapman. URL: ruclips.net/video/GPDO3NPdh1U/видео.html Many thanks!
I couldn’t tell you. It came with 12’s on it from the factory, which might as well be power lines to me, so the first thing I did when I pulled it out of the box was cut them off and restring it within 10’s, and I haven’t experienced any problems with it at all.
@@RobertWJackson Thx for your answer!
For God's sake dude. The info you provide is good, but please ffs turn that background music down while you're talking.
k
Put some fishmans in there...
Nope.
I want to hear one with fishmans as well
background music is bad.cant hear what you saying.😡😡😡😡😡😡
k
Ugh you lost me on 9 gauge strings… broke my heart
Why?
@@RobertWJackson 9 gauge strings on a baritone guitar? I’m just teasing you mostly, I play on 11s on my les Paul and just got some 13s last night that I put on. Tuned to drop A and man no rubbery feel to the strings. But I appreciate the video and it definitely helped me decide on a Chapman when I get my baritone. They have some really nice high end guitars and it sounds like their more reasonable instruments are pretty good too.
You have no idea how close that comment was to being featured on Stupid People Explain Things To Me. LOL
@@RobertWJackson what is exactly stupid, that 9 are a bummer to me? Or using heavy gauge strings.
No, that you made fun of ME for using 9-gauge strings. I couldn’t care less what you use. LOL
