Interesting. It is possible tat this episode was shot using RCA TK-41 cameras, which produced unique pastel colors. The TK-41 was primarily employed by NBC. CBS had a handful of TK-41's, but replaced them with Norelco cameras, starting in 1965. However, this show probably was videotaped in the CBS Ed Sullivan Theater. The audience seating shot at the 15 minute mark appears to be in a CBS theater. Would Goodson-Todman have replaced the CBS cameras with TK-41's? When the Goodson-Todman syndicated programs shifted to NBC Studio 6A, they clearly used NBC-supplied TK-41's for several years. TK-41's were still being employed on many NBC programs, such as The Tonight Show in Studio 6B, in the early 1970's.
Wow! I’ve never seen an episode from season one. I’ve heard they were wiped and no longer exist. This is a real treat to see. It’s always been my favorite set for the syndicated TTTT. Thanks so much for sharing this gem with us.
Yes, this would come from the National Archives Nixon Library copy. The WHite House often recorded talk shows from the DC stations if the guest was political or if a Nixon family member was on and I would assume that the program that aired before TTTT on WTTG was likely of interest to the White House accounting for why this was recorded.
Great seeing this rare 1st syndicated season of "To Tell The Truth" especially the introduction that Johnny Olson gave when he announced Bill Cullen coming out and Orson Bean came instead and then Johnny said "Here's Bill Cullen." Even the commercials are awesome to see.
Such a rare treat to see this. It’s the only first season episode I’ve ever seen. Love that set they had for the first two seasons. The Safeguard soap commercial with “Tom Willis” from The Jeffersons is something else lol.
Very interesting at 11:03 how Kitty Carlisle politely, but firmly, scolded Peggy Case for interrupting her. I don't know this for a fact, but I always got the impression that there was some friction between those two ladies.
Do you take requests? I'd love to see the 1977 episode of Double Dare with Mort (Kamin) vs Doug. Mort's 1st try vs the Spoilers was SO unfair. I'd love to watch his 2nd try. It would be the best Christmas gift ever, to watch that. Thank you.
We cut our cable 1.5 months ago and i finally discovered this show on antenna tv on a channel called Buzzer. The funny thing is the early 1970’s were such a schizophrenic time. The episodes I’m watching are from 1973 and Match Game ‘73 is on right before TTTT from 1973. This show is so gentle and urbane and interesting and Match Game which I loved as a child is just double entendres junk. Nudge nudge wink wink junk. How those two shows existed at the same time just boggles my mind…
Hi, I am trying to find a particular episode of To Tell the Truth. It is 1972 episode 1292 with Hashim Khan. Any help tracking this down would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guy
One popular kids show in DC was Wonderama which was produced by Metromedia station WNEW in New York and shown on Metromedia’s WTTG in DC on Sunday Morning’s. Also shown in DC was Truth or Consequences from LA with a young Bob Barker.
I thought that was the tape date. I wish I found that newspaper article that said that Goodson-Todman would be withdrawing this Season to make way for more timely stories. That was when Season 1 ceased to exist. This Season featured the only Moore-era appearances of Gail Sheldon and Joanna Barnes. One episode I'd like to see resurface is the one with Erich Segal, the Yale Professor-turned scriptwriter for "Yellow Submarine", since I love The Beatles.
This is a gem of an episode. Thank you for posting this classic.
The set still had it's 1960's color and look/feel to it. Cool. Too bad we can't go back.

What an incredible find...thanks for sharing!
Thanks for presenting this one. A true find:)

That's the second time Nixon saved a game show indirectly
to my knowledge this is the second first season episode to be discovered. the other is in UCLA's film archive

Interesting to hear an actual "booth announcer" doing live reads on the station.

Funny that to this day, Sally Kellerman is still doing voice-over commercials. Don't ya know it??
Thanks for the content.
Keep up the good work.

Not exactly sure how that is possible, when sadly, Sally passed away in February 2022...😥😥😥
Which one was Sally Kellerman.
4:29 Franklin Cover (Tom Willis from the Jeffersons) in the Safeguard commercial.
I miss the 70’s so much ❤

Garry Moore sounds like he's had a drink or two...
I thought the same thing.
That's a lot of crap

Does anyone know who blonde is in the wink commercial I think she is the actress who plays Angelique in DARK SHADOWS but not sure.
Definitely looks like her! Lara Parker ... who just died several months ago.
#3 was the only one wearing the collar as I recognize it.

0:23 Priceless Metromedia 5 WTTG TOH Station ID
It is possible that Metromedia stations had the rights to TTTT at first.
No, my location ABC affiliate, WKBW in Buffalo showed TTTT in its first season.

Could be...I know WNEW in NYC had it for a time.
28:53 Anne Nixon (show researcher) was the mother of Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon
Fun episode! But Peggy's weird, grating voice bugs me!🥴
i agree i feel the same about having to listen to Joy Behar or Rosie O'Donnel

The channel BillCullenNet has season 1 episodes
They're all from Season 2. GSN always began with the episode with the Young pen pal to over 100 service men.
@@VahanNisanian oh, okay
HA! I nailed the real guest in both segments!
