Ismail Merchant...pretty cool. I went to see Shakespeare Wallah at that time. wining a trip to London in '65 would have been the best even without the Dave Clark Five. I liked Mike Smith. Some great songs.
This is why I LOVE this show! Ismael Merchant was the producer of Howards End and Room with a View. Merchant Ivory productions. Here he was just starting out!
During the 1965-66 TV season, "To Tell The Truth" occasionally featured rock performers in an attempt to blunt NBC's "Hullabaloo", which was on in the same timeslot.
"I liked the Dave Clark 5...I figured I could marry one of them because they were more accessible than the Beatles"--Wendy Wasserstein, from her play UNCOMMON WOMEN AND OTHERS
The panel obviously did not know much about the DC5. Otherwise, they would (should) have asked question like, "who played lead guitar" instead of questions about location in London.
They were so much older and DC5 was pretty new on the scene. I happened to be 13 in 1965 but they weren't well known to older people like some musicians today.
The Dave Clark 5, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Petula Clark and Jay and the Americans, ahhh what memories ‼️✌️😎🇺🇸
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Lady #2 in Game #1
Man #3 in Game #2
Lady #1 in Game #3
Great show

I had a pair of those white boots !!!!!
Prince Ira Singh decoy number 1 is probably one of their most famous fakes being half of Merchant Ivory film production duo.
While the real Prince Ira Singh bears a striking resemblance to John Waters...
This is why I LOVE this show! Ismael Merchant was the producer of Howards End and Room with a View. Merchant Ivory productions. Here he was just starting out!
I know!! It was so exciting for me when he said his name!!! Merchant and Ivory! What an exceptional pair of film makers!
Mike Smith was the greatest lead singer in rock history.
The Dave Clark Five was one of many British bands following on the heels of the Beatles during the 1960's British Invasion.
This contest was a tie in with their film HAVING A WILD WEEKEND...
Which was originally called "Catch Us If You Can" in the UK.
Thanks, Captain Obvious.
I loved that group.....great songs!!
I loved this how. I wish they would put it back on.
But, it might be so different in today's world. For me, part of it's charm is the panel....and Bud!
I don’t know if it would work nowadays with everyone being so visible in media.
Correct name is Kathy Sheron.
During the 1965-66 TV season, "To Tell The Truth" occasionally featured rock performers in an attempt to blunt NBC's "Hullabaloo", which was on in the same timeslot.
Esther Coopersmith just passed away in March 2024.
I love the way she pushed in those chairs before exiting the panel. Typical hostess!
I, too, was a senior in high school in 1965. I would have sure liked to have known #1 ~ what a sweety.
50 Year 1967 Reunion in San Jose, California September 29-30, 2017 ....... Roger Christensen
Love her doing the math to figure out what $750 is divided by three, then her euphoria. That comes out to 316 45rpm records.
I like this panel. Even though Orson Beane rubs me the wrong way.
I love Orson. Wish I could have met him.
Wikipedia says he was struck by 2 cars and died as a result at age 91. 😢@@kentetalman9008
Another episode with my favorite panel👍excluding Mr Bean
Tony Hatch wrote Downtown for Petula Clark.
Hatch was a fuh king genius producer and songwriter.
What an unexpected treat to see Ismail Merchant.
What a dream ocme true for he!
Panel knew Jack Squat about the DC5
Duh. "Useless" is fitting
"I liked the Dave Clark 5...I figured I could marry one of them because they were more accessible than the Beatles"--Wendy Wasserstein, from her play UNCOMMON WOMEN AND OTHERS
AWFUL TO KILL TIGERS 🐅 THAT MAKES ME MAD 😡
It was a different era. I’m sure things that are acceptable nowadays people will look back on 50 or 75 years from now and be aghast at, too.
Game # 2 - oh how the times have changed
Her "mod dress" is exactly like the pattern on The Partage Family bus!!!!!
UberLummox I thought it looked familiar.
@@evelynshore9489 :-D Right?!
Could've, or probably was even the same designer. Or copied the dress design directly.
Based on the paintings by Piet Mondrian....
@@tomservo56954 Really. Wow! Very cool you knew that. Thanks!!!
Bud really should have said "...and gods bless you." to the second contestants.
But back then, they were the generation that complained about the younger generation and their crazy music!!
@@sbalman I was 14 that year! And, agree, Dave Clark 5 was just starting out in '65! Loved them!
@@pattymiller9040 They started out in 1963. They won an award for being the most viewed live group in London.
They didn't know much about the DC5? Duh.
I AM JEALOUS. CONGRATS THOUGH.👌😀
The DC 5 was of the best groups of the British Invasion. How many younger viewers are asking where Bombay is?
This was 1965 and McCarthy died in 1957. Kitty was not up to date.
Kathy Sharon was wearing a wig. I'd bet money on it.
Esther still alive at 93
Why would you want to go hunting in India period!
It was a different era.
and this, folks, is why India is still stuck in a third world condition.
You sure know how to not make a point.
Dave Clark 5 = forgettable music. Nothing worth listening to anymore.
