    Last week, I gave up my 2008 V50 which I had spend enjoyable time with for 4 years, and bought 2005 XC70 2.5T! At the end of the day, this V70(XC70 also) is a design masterpiece. I'm quite happy with my decision. Thank you for nice, clear and lovely review! (from Japan)

      How about maintenance and parts? It’s difficult to get and expensive to fix in japan? Or you have special car pit for volvo owners?

    Just a few points i make are that my 2001 v70t does not have a 5 speed automatic box it is a 4 speed box with overdrive whereas you say u have 5 speed box, also when you put the front overhead interior lights on you first put the drivers side on & then passengers side on & then off & next you put both front interior lights on & you wondered why the need?? Well the reason is the first 2 lights you put on are what they call map reading lights & are only direct spot lights which do not throw light sideways, the third switch you turned on was the front wide angled cabin light which would throw light into drivers vision !!! Very simple safety lighting system, as for speed they are limited to 155mph & reach that quite quickly for a 2 ton car 👍👍

    Unfortunately, the auto manufactures don't offer station wagons in the United States because of the popularity of SUVs/crossovers. The advantage a stationw wagon like this Volva has, is that it gets better gas mileage than an SUV. Honda and Toyota offer station wagon versions of their sedans in European and Asian countries such as a wagon version of the Toyota Corolla, but unfortunately not in the USA. Maybe the auto manufacturers are afraid station wagons won't sell well in the USA making them less profit then SUV/crossovers

    • @AllCarswithJon
      @AllCarswithJon  2 года назад +2

      I don't believe the manufacturers 'forced' people into SUVs - consider Buick offered a wagon in the Regal not long ago, and they just didn't sell. People want SUVs...
      Many years ago I heard a quote that went something like this. "Wagos/Minivans are Life Choice vehicles, but SUVs are LifeSTYLE vehicles".
      People want the high seating and 'rugged' look for an SUV, even if it's really just a tall-car.

    • @LN997-i8x
      @LN997-i8x Год назад +3

      @@AllCarswithJon Minivans and wagons also have the added burden of having garnered a reputation for being "uncool" , since their practicality meant they got used for a myriad of mundane but highly visible roles. I wonder if the full-size SUV will eventually experience a similar reputational hangover.

    • @AllCarswithJon
      @AllCarswithJon  Год назад

      @@LN997-i8x Good thoughts. I did a video several weeks back where the data shows exactly what you're saying, but on a very very small scale. SUVs are dominant, but there's a tiny uptick in sedan sales - and at least part of that is younger people not wanting to drive the uncool things their parents or grandparents drove!

    I grew up w a 1989 760gle, which I later took over in hs/college and later passed it one to my cousin. My mom later leased a 2008 s80 T6. Back then, for the lease price, the Volvo was an amazing value. we loved the ride, performance and that it was understated. But it had random electrical glitches - nothing bad, just not very reassuring for a brand new car. However, current gen Volvos have gotten much more expensive with brittle ride and unrefined 4 cyl engines.

  • @reallyrandomrides1296

    Nice! Looks like you added a nice car to your fleet! It's aged well, doesn't look like a 20 year old car, the only things that give it away are the older lift-up door handles, older head unit with cassette (not even CD) and no bluetooth, navigation, satellite radio, back up camera though you could add a nice aftermarket unit to compensate for that. I've always wanted a Volvo wagon, maybe one day I'll get one, until then, I live vicariously through other people's Volvo videos!

      I'll tell you this my friend, this car has blown me away. It feels so much like a buttoned-down Buick - and I mean that in the best possible way.
      The steering is light, and the suspension varies between (oh! I felt that!) to soft..... but, it's supremely comfortable. Sure, parts of it are out of date, but it's been great so far.
      Heck, my 19 year old son yesterday was like "these seats are SO comfortable!" :)

    I had a T5 2001 for six years. Nice to drive, and as mentioned good seats and quality overall. But...electronics can be a pain with this model. The most expencive for me was ABScontrol and Tracktion. The aut. transmision (not the type you have) had its own life. Where I live (Denmark) rust is a normal problem, but this model has few trouble even after 15 years. Hope you get a better experience with a Volvo.

      Station wagons seem to slowly be gaining traction again in the US. I think the youth got tired of the obnoxiously large SUV’s and trucks their parents got suckered into. Hopefully one day we’ll get wagon versions of the bulletproof sedans like the accord and the Camry again.

    Great video, and great to see that people over there in the US are finally realizing just how good these wagons are . Here in Sweden and in Europe overall - wagons are absolutely everywhere. But even here there's a trend of people moving towards SUV:s instead, oftentimes SUV:s that are actually less practical than a wagon like this. I own the last model year V70 Classic 2.4 without the turbo. The "Classic" trim was available in Sweden for the 2007 and 2008 model year, and they were a little special. You got grey V70R gauges and nice metal trim in the interior. And all of the black plastic you see on your car is body painted instead. It has gone 150,000km so far and still feels fresh and tight. Oh and mine is a 5-speed manual. As far as I know, there are only two downsides to this model.
    1. They are quite thirsty compared to other european wagons.
    2. Suspension bushings and what not are softer and will dry out and crack with time, easy to fix though.
    Other than these two things, I have yet to find anything major with this wagon.

    • @AllCarswithJon
      @AllCarswithJon  2 года назад

      Thanks for the comment. My son drives it and it's been a good car (and it's exciting to see a 19 year old exciting about a station wagon!) It is a bit thirsty, more than we expected, but not bad. We still need to invest in a timing belt and water pump change, and I want to flush the power steering fluid, but so far the only problem he's had has been a tire getting a screw in it and blowing out.
      Oh, and one of the headlight wipers stopped wiping. :)

    "Transmission shifts well..." for now. Pre-facelift AW55-50SN's on the P2 need solenoids eventually, although they'll last long with fluids

    • @stevemccooleq
      @stevemccooleq 11 месяцев назад

      You will get much better results from the transmission by doing a fluid drain & fill every 25k miles...and here is the important part. You must use specified JWS 3309 fluid. Toyota T-IV fluid will work perfectly and is usually available at the lowest cost. Do not use multi vehicle or other fluids even if they say JWS 3309 "compatible". These transmissions are very fluid sensitive.

    • @reallyhappenings5597
      @reallyhappenings5597 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@stevemccooleq Agreed, generally. Mobil makes a JWS 3309 spec product that I use. My 2002 V70 has a 112k miles. Unfortunately, the solenoids got gunked up in the first 60k miles under the quote (warranty) factory service schedule, no AT service during that time. Since then, I have been A+ on fluid changes, 30% drain/fills at 75k miles and full fluid exchanges at 60 and 90k. My ATF stays virginally red and I'm sure the unit is fundamentally healthy but I'm still going to need those new solenoids to ever have smooth shifting.

    • @stevemccooleq
      @stevemccooleq 11 месяцев назад

      @@reallyhappenings5597 Yes, the Mobil 3309 and Toyota T-IV are identical from what I understand. It is just a question of which one you can get the best price.
      As you probably are aware there is a cottage industry on Ebay of AW50-55 valve body rebuilders (with new solenoids), prices seem to range between $150 to $250. R&R of the valve body is not simple but can be done by a DIYer or a shop would probably hit you with about 6 hrs labor (give or take). So not super cheap but can be done for way less than a $4000 transmission rebuild. Good luck.

    You may regret buying this "network " p2 ford/volvo. I own 2 volvo v70xc, and an older 850. The 02 doesn't even compare to my 98 xc as far as reliability. My 02 v70xc has 247k milage. So far it has needed a complete transmission rebuild (which is common with the 02s), 4 out of 5 modules replaced. Electrical gremlins abound. Once it was running it was enjoyable. But be ready for Electrical failures. Many will present themselves as the milage builds. I had to invest in a code reader, VIDA and DICE system to save on repairs it got that bad. The wires in the rear side window is the antenna (there is also a antenna booster in the right rear compartment). I can almost bet that plug in the back is for a battery minder the 02 drains battery badly. I would check to see if your airbag is subject to a recall. Cheers

      Well, that has not been my experience. I've owned a 2002 V70 from new (180k miles on the clock now). It is a manual though - so no transmission problems to be had. The only electrical problems for me - the DIM (driver information module), which I have repaired, and the original ETM (electronic throttle module), which I have replaced.
