Bought a used 2007 XC90 Diesel here in Europe. Now 230000 km and purring away. Absolutely love the car. Easy to maintain, well-engineered and practical. Stupid emission laws in my city will forbid me from using it next year. They’d rather I throw this fine automobile away and buy a new one. But I’ve decided to pay the fines and keep using my car.
There was a guy at my work that had an old Volvo, went like 500,000 miles with no issues. Bragged about it to everyone, how smart he was to have such a reliable car brand. So he went out and got a new one. Nothing but trouble after trouble. Boy was his disillusioned genius.
Geeley , a Chinese company bought volvo in 2014 I believe, and its been a crappy product since then.. nothing but engine and electrical problems.... Smh
40 year old Volvo technician. Work on anything German or Swedish. Volvo is the best car ever built. Especially the B230F 4 cylinder and the 5 cylinder’s. The cams stay in a bath of oil. The European’s refine the metals so much better than we do.
I’m in the process of buying a 2002 Volvo V70. With just 30,000 km on it 1000 bucks Hope it’s a good decision Don’t know any thing about cars, but heard the old Volvo are great even now?
@abdulazizsaleh8650 if you don't need awd don't get it the haldex system tends to fail often. I have 06 v70 and still runs like a tank. The odometer doesn't read miles I think some soldering came undone after years
Great story Scotty. My first car was a 1981 Volvo 264 GL. An older gentleman ran me off the road and I ran dead on into a concrete road medium at 45 MPH with no seat belt. I tried to start the car but it wouldn't start. Had it towed to the mechanic and he said I'd completely ripped the engine off the motor mounts and back into the firewall. Not a scratch on me. Owned nothing but Volvo's for the last 45 years of my life. A few with over 500K miles on them.
I have a 1995 850 5 speed manual. 325k timing belt, and a clutch. Still Looks great and runs fine. It loves Vermont winter. Never let me down. I am keeping her for life.
I've been driving a V50 Volvo Wagon (2007) for 2 years now and love it!! It's solid as a rock, no issues, just keeps going down the road - looks and feels great too. Not bad for under $3,000 price tag.
My second Volvo was a 2006 V50 T5 6spd std AWD. Car was neglected before me so had to let it go after 10mth 15km of ownership. Disappointed with the electrical, too much Ford influence. After that I've stayed away from P1s and P3s. P2 for life!!! Currently own my third Volvo, a mint 2006 S80 2.5T AWD and a 2010 XC90 3.2 AWD that replaced my late and beloved first Volvo 2005 XC70, I'm restoring my fifth, a 2007 XC70 just like the one in the video and intend to sell the XC90 when I'm fully finished
Bought an ‘04 V70 two years ago to use as a go to work vehicle for $4k. Very reliable and solid vehicle. Bought a ‘15 XC70 T5 for my wife. Nice vehicle, great mpg. Scotty, glad to hear you like Volvos.
Owned a 1970 244, stick shift. Bought it used for around $200 back late 1980s. The engine was amazing. Turned and handled amazing, very small turning radius. Perfect torque, could handle hills like nothing else. Heard that 4 cyl engine was the most reliable engine ever created, could last over a million miles. Darn shame I sold it.
I drive a 1989 Volvo 740 (Yes, it's a 30 year old car) that is older than me, still runs great, just drove it nearly 250 miles to come to college and it rode like a dream. Little rust and low mileage for it's age - only 158,000 miles. Sweet car - and I actually like the boxy look, it's old school and reminds me of the old cars my parents had when I was a kid.
Those old Volvo 850 and then the remodelled V70s were very well made. Even the turbo charged 5 cylinder petrol engines hold-up really well. The British police used to use them a lot - so there's an endorsement for their build quality.
Public motor pools are no indication of quality. They are an indication of low bid budget requirements. It's no different here in the US or in most of Europe. As police work has grown in comlexity, the vehicles have incereased in size and complexity to match. The Brits no longer use Morris Minor's for a reason.
@@indotube8125Vauxhall hasn't been British since the 60s, became part of opal which is owned by GM, rover doesn't even exist anymore ( mg is currently owned by indian) and any lotus ain't gonna carry much equipment or suspects 😂 recently some forces have started using volvos again, many still used Vauxhall astra's as you mentioned and Peugeots along with fords
I used to be skeptical about Volvos until I actually bought and drove one. I own a 2002 Volvo S40 with a 1.9 turbo I4 that I bought as a college commuter that I still own today. Its not only extremely comfortable and fuel efficient, but its extremely safe and reliable. Ever since i bought it i haven't had to do any huge maintenance on it. Yeah its definitely not the fastest car on the road, but as a broke college kid that wasn't what I was looking for. Scotty knows what he's talking about, take my word for it.

Hello Community, I’m thinking about buying a 2000 Volvo S70? Does that sound like a good car? It’s got 120,000 miles, someone’s selling it for like $1000, but it doesn’t start. Any comment, thanks.
@@DSJVNdsjnvf4356 The 2000 s70 is a great car. My first volvo. Get it checked out and enjoy. Probably the battery or starter motor is the issue. This car can do a lot more than 120k miles regardless of city or highway miles.
@@DSJVNdsjnvf4356 There are some good Non-dealership shops you can take it to and have them check it over. I got mine from one of these shops here in KY, and it's been great. Find someone who specializes in old volvo repairs.
@@kayhumph9109 & DoubleDeckerAnton, 👍 great advice. I'm hanging on to my 1987 Volvo 240 DL. Never had any problems with it. Routine maintenance. Cosmetic upgrade needed.
Wow, what a coincidence. I just bought a 1993 Volvo 850. Already love it. Higher miles, still runs like new. Owned by a mechanic and maintained well. For $1000...
We still have my wife's 2003 V70. My daughter drove it for the past 10 years from high school to Med school and it still has shiny paint and runs great with almost 200K miles. What I like is the cargo capacity. I can fit a 10' PVC pipe inside, from windshield to tailgate. It's 6' of flat space from tailgate to front seats, big enough to lay a twin size mattress for a quick camper. And that back cargo area is tall enough to fit tall boxes too. Amazing for such a small exterior size.
Those petrol volvos might be good but the diesel ones here in Europe are pretty much indestructible. My neighbour has a 97 V70 D5 with just over 744.000km around 500.000miles which is in better condition than my fathers 2015 Audi A6
Your failed. And my old classmate's to.. But his gasoline V70 with LPG lived for 510.000km We sold your Volvo Diesel with 180.000km. The engine was great but the transmission was about to go out, probably 80% of the electronic so..
That's true. I had a 1998 S70 with diesel inline 5 engine and it had 475000 km. I sold it only because I had no money for registration, first registration was like 400 euros, and my pay was well under that. There's a story video on my Instagram of it before maintenance, if you want to check it out, name's @marxeny.
Yeah my friend have V70 with that VW 2.5tdi and automatic transmission, bit over 600k miles now and still rocking with original engine and transmission. I have petrol 940 with over 300k miles also running just fine!
Right again Scotty. Had a 1973 Volvo wagon, had fuel injection, 4 wheel disc brakes, that swedish steel was bulletproof no car payments and cheap insurance buys a lot of gas!
Volvo before it was bought out was the best of automotive engineering in the name of reliability. It's well known they detuned the engines in the name of reliability. My RWD Volvo's have been extremely reliable. I have a 1992 240 with 450,000 miles.
@@leleedler That's the good thing with the chinese. Unlike Ford they let volvo do their own thing how they want to. They don't mess with something that's working well.
Here in Belgium with the volvo xc 90's where a lot of problems. Since it's basically Chinese it's rubbish in every way. The old ones where real beasts. So strong. Scotty i had the same issue with such boxy old strong volvo too. Mine had just a scratch the other car who ran into my car became 3/4 smached.
At one time I had three Volvo 240's...two 92's and a 93. One of the '92's I bought new...took all 3 of my infant kids home from the hospital in it, 17 yrs later they all learned to drive in it. One of my kids totaled one.... a deer totaled the other. I have one left with 250,000 miles on it...who knows it may outlast me !
Whilst test-driving a 1978 240 wagon, I said to the dealer, "my next vehicle will also be a Volvo." I kept my promise and purchased a used 1989 240 sedan in 2001 (fuel injected vs carburator). It died a few years ago at around 220,000 km (odometer wore out at 215k)
I'm not an suv person, I've always been into cars... but for some reason the xc90 has always spoken to me. Bought an 07 back in January, and I'm glad I did. Comfortable, and rock solid. Never been in an suv that just feels so rock solid.
I'm guessing there was a reason, though. These cars did have a couple of pretty substantial weak point -- 1 being the electronics, and 2 being the transmission.
I got a S40 with the 5 cyl non turbo, it is incredibly reliable as long as you maintain it. The issue is people who buy them cheaply do not want to put the money to keep them running.
Kev Flores take good care of it dude. Like a japanese 90s car, they dont (and wont) make them like they use to. Never had a volvo but my old man bought a mitsubishi sedan back in 2003. 16 years and 380,000km later, can still rocket to 180 on highways. Wear and tear parts r starting to show its ugly face but that only started to happen around the 300,000km mark few years back. Engine n tranny still as solid as ever.
my 740 had its kilometer counter stop at 894000 something... and then i drove it for about 8 years more. In the end, it was the rust that took her. Not the engine, nothing mechanical, nothing electrical. cheapest car in the world to maintain on those parts. Just to point out how insane that is, the counter stopped after the car had driven the distance to the moon and back, and then drove for 8 years more! We will never see its likes again. From Sweden with Love - Kami
Shawn Hampshirehick I just realized I didn’t answer your question. Transmission not an issue. *knocks on glass*... I had to get a new gear shifter the other month. As long as I put aside $500 -$700 a year- I’m good. The 90’s Volvo’s are the ones still on the road. There is enough room in the engine to do things yourself. Before that made it hard to work on your own car so they got people to take it in to shops instead.
Those V70 is the most used car in Sweden, of natural reasons. almost impossible to find one under 400.000 km. People buy and sell them, and they will continuie to run

Scotty, I purchased a 2004 XC70 brand new in 2004. The car has 162K miles on it and we still own it. If you think I am writing this comment to you because I agree with you, you could not be more wrong! This XC70 has been BY FAR THE MOST EXPENSIVE, MAINTENANCE INTENSIVE CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED! I have put probably $20,000.00 in repairs over the last 17 years. $20K!!! These are NOT Toyota’s or Honda’s which really can run seemingly forever. I recently purchased a Subaru Outback H6 3.6 liter 256 HP loaded limited. Not only is the AWD system 1000X better but I do believe that this wagon will last for 20 years with less than half the headaches of the Volvo. I replaced the whole rack and pinion steering system, the motor mounts broke several times. The front passenger power window fell into the door and shattered TWICE! The transfer case needed to be replaced. The AWD system sucks. It’s really just a fwd wagon. It’s easy to get it stuck in the snow. My Audi A6 or Subaru are unstoppable in the snow. Ford didn’t do Volvo any favors when they owned them. Steer clear of buying a used Volvo. Better yet, steer clear of buying any Volvo.
The old Volvo 240s were nearly indestructible. I've always called them the Swedish Toyota. Super reliable, cheap, relatively easy to work on. They're are more 30+ year old 240s on the road than any other older car.
Lived in Sweden my whole life, and I've probably seen more of these cars than I have hairs on my damn scalp, and my hair grows so thick it's perpendicular to the skin of my head.
A neighbor once crashed with his P 1800 into a 7.5 t truck, which was sliding on ice frontally against him. the neighbor survived without any injuries, and the Volvo was still able to run. But the axle of the truck was kicked out.
Gil Kozlowski as an owner of an XC70 I’m not entirely sure about them being pure junk. Ya I agree design wise they are kind of boring but other then being boring mine has 300,000 miles and only issue it has is 1 dirty fuel injector.
A friend of mine had one of those and man, was it solid! Smooth ride, quiet, and when he put his foot down it really stepped out! Plus, I never felt as safe and secure in any other car. Too bad they don't make 'em like that anymore.
*Old, boxy Volvo's from the '80 aren't stylish?* They are built from the principal; "Form follows functions". That's state of they art designing in my opinion! Practical, safe, easy to work on, reliable, comfortable. What do you want more? _Screw those useless modern SUV's..._
@@bonohyogurt There are boxy Volvos in 90's, too. I have a 1993 Volvo 940 STW. The last models of them wrere built in 1997 or so. I am driving my current Volvo now since 3/2002.
My Aunt has the same exact Volvo. Never stranded her and it's sitting at 130,000 miles. I got in it one time and was surprised with how smooth and quiet it was even after all these years. Incredible and the interior felt solid as well without a lot of creaking. The power was smooth and it was very quiet. I love old Volvos like these. The only cars I would consider buying would be the Outback or old Volvos.
Engine made by Yamaha. Gotta love that Japanese technology :P They re rare. Hold onto it. Only had an 850 estate and an S60 from 2001. Now I got a headache with a 2009 Mercedes C class:))
@SlitWristMisfit They were designed by Yamaha, as ordered by Ford (who owned Volvo at the time) and manufactured by Volvo. They weren't made by Yamaha, dummy.
I was a Paramedic for a couple of decades working city ambulance. We would see old Volvo's that had been in pretty bad wrecks and rollovers. The passengers would always be fine and you would be hard pressed to find any real damage on the Volvo's other than some paint scratches, and like, the grill is bent. even in a roll over. In a old Volvo the crumple zone is what ever you hit with it.
We got a 2000 V70 for a wedding gift and it became the dogmobile. What a great car to drive and it was so solid. In 2006 we bought the XC90 with the same turbo inline 5 and it's still with us. That XC90 is a blast to drive and the AWD just keeps it stuck to the road. We've had a few friends and customers buy the XC90s with the 6 and 8s and none of them lasted past their warranties without massive failures of those rubbish motors. These inline 5s are just so rock solid.
His story about the infinity reminds me of when I got hit in the rear from a 1992 Cadillac Brougham, the entire front end was smashed and I only had a cracked rear bumper cover. The insurance payout was great too!
Kalle Birgersson I’ve got an ‘88 240 wagon. The starter has been on its last legs for over a year now. Things bulletproof. I was at a red light once and this pedestrian walked past and said “Volvo, Swedish for common sense”
My 1989 740 was in 2 front end collisions, but repaired by a friend. The second wreck messed up the radiator, allowing the coolant and trans fluid to mix. Drove it like that for a while without realizing it. My mechanic replaced the radiator and flushed the transmission. I took it back a few months later for another transmission flush to get rid of the remaining contamination. Thing still ran good when I sold it in 2016. Yes, they were tanks.
@@Ensource I would recomend Volvo 740 or 940 because it's easy to get parts and replace them yourself barely any technical problems at all. But if you want a more cheap and more comfort I would recommend a volvo v70 for daily and stuff like that. But never get a old diesel Volvo under year 2000 because me personal experience with those is that they are not as reliable as the old b230 redblocks. But it depends where you are from and how easy to find and prices in your country as well of course. In The engines I would recomend to get is b230 f, fb, fk, ft, they are the most common to find and the most easiest to find parts to. The old carburetors ain't that great but they sound good with that's got sure
Southern Texas Homestead love the 960is I got one myself but a 964 “96 with the 2,5l and manual transmission:) bought it from an elderly gentleman who upgraded to a v40 and he was the first owner of it and it’s in mint condition
Friend of mine was rear ended in a Volvo on the highway, the car that hit him and the car he was pushed into were totaled, he was able to drive home. Haha.
I have a 2005 XC70 with 230k+ and its interior is nearly pristine; I'm indebted to the previous owner. Anyway, apart from subpar sound insulation and the fuel economy, I have no problems with the car. Like he said, it picks up pretty quick for its weight. It's had no major repairs or rebuilds through its lifetime. I'll eventually want to replace it with something more fuel efficient but I'm afraid it may never die on me!
Scotty you missed one of the best parts about this car.... The AWD system on it is fantastic. Very capable in sand, muck, snow. Oh and the transmission is built by Aisin, the same Japanese company that builds Toyota transmissions...
@@whiteknight7979 Beg to differ. The Haldex AWD and the Aisin transmission is quite reliable, if you flush the fluids and change the filters at the same intervals that Volvo specified for taxi and police duty vehicles. The thing is Volvo claimed "filled for life" on all the non-fleet sales cars. And in a sense Volvo was right! When the transmission or AWD broke down thanks to lack of maintenance, their life was over so no refill/service was needed.
I need to replace the Bevel Gear (aka Angle Gear) on my 2007 XC90 (122K miles). I am also replacing the propellor shaft. While it is out, I am servicing the Haldex and changing the rear diff fluid. Transmission guy said the angle gears go out often in these and many of the tranmission valve bodies were plagued by poor metal quality, but my transmission is still doing well although a slight pause sometimes when shifting (e.g. 1/4-1/3 second). 3.2L 6cyl still seems to be doing well, but my gas mileage dropped recently from 19-20mpg to 17mpg.

I am sat inside my tatty old 1999 V40 now, the worst part about it is the rust. This old 1.8 petrol lump has only covered 200khm, the engine has never leaked and I love the space in back. Great for cruising around in. I love it!
@@MuscleBandit my 2.0l just reached the 200k. Rust is not an issue at all, though the shiftingbox (manual) is giving up and gears start popping out or I struggle to put them in. But it also has absolutely 0 leaks, dry as a new engine. never saw that in any other car from that era or younger. Cheers!
The kids love the old body volvos . Vintage style, every netflix or new movie you watch All the cars and especially trucks are from eighties and nineties. I actually find it cool when a new show doesn't use those old cars and trucks.
Same thing here. Going about 45 in out 2010 xc90 and we immediately pulled over. I was shocked to see that the car didn't have any dents! I never check my fluid or not in a while. I'm not sure who makes their transmissions but I don't think it's jatco. It's a good auto transmission. But I did need to recently drop $3,000 to repair the engine after 171,000 miles. It runs a lot better so I think it will last a couple more years. @@Floof_Factory I see. I've been using my Volvo to commute 75 miles per work day. its perfectly fine in free flowing traffic but when its stop in go the constant shifting is causing a problem with the idling. It stalled out on me once. I will try leaving it in low gear next time.
Been tog the Volvo museum in Gothenburg yesterday and there was a lot of great cars, concept ones and serial built. A Good spent hour I'd say! Swedish tanks deliver 😉
I bought my 2008 volvo v70 wagon 8 years ago with 143000 on it. It’s now has 179500 on it and has only had a few small repairs done to it. It runs like a champ!!
These cars are not gas hogs at all. I have a 2004 Volvo S60R AWD Automatic (the sedan version of V70) with a 300hp/295lb.ft 2.5litre 5 cylinder turbo engine, and I ALWAYS get 31.4mpg (7.5L/100km) on the freeway. That's a long way from the 25mpg you said and I have a more powerful engine, and the car is almost the same weight as the V70. The S60R is 3481lbs and the V70 is 3488lbs.
What he reported rang true to me. I have a 2005 V70 2.5T (light pressure turbo), and in mixed driving I get about 22.5 mpg. I can not imagine I get over 25 mpg on the highway - I highly doubt it. It isn't a gas hog, but it isn't sipping gas either.
I got my 02 XC 70 with 160k for $750. It was in rough shape. After all the maintenance stuff, auto trans. Fluid flush and a new quarter panel it was my daily driver for two years doing sign installations and handyman work. I got 50k miles out of a car that coast about $1k! It was my favorite driving and most comfortable car I've had! This vehicles AWD system along with traction control is absolutely superb.
Our 2006 v70 2.5 T AWD has 210000k looks great.... no rust.... have had to do some maintenance coil pack... timing belt ... water pump.... BUT...... I don’t mind the fixes cause this car is rock solid and the AWD system has been very good...... very safe car and good enough performance.....planning on keeping it for a lot longer......

On another video, Scotty tells us why the I-5 cylinder engines are terrible. He is not consistent at all.
Public motor pools are no indication of quality. They are an indication of low bid budget requirements. It's no different here in the US or in most of Europe. As police work has grown in comlexity, the vehicles have incereased in size and complexity to match. The Brits no longer use Morris Minor's for a reason.
Ok..i see.. how about fuel consumption ??

We still have my wife's 2003 V70. My daughter drove it for the past 10 years from high school to Med school and it still has shiny paint and runs great with almost 200K miles. What I like is the cargo capacity. I can fit a 10' PVC pipe inside, from windshield to tailgate. It's 6' of flat space from tailgate to front seats, big enough to lay a twin size mattress for a quick camper. And that back cargo area is tall enough to fit tall boxes too.
My Audi A6 or Subaru are unstoppable in the snow. what ones do you recommend under 5,000? what is your list of best and easiest to work on?
@@Ensource the older models from before Ford took over. So that'd be the first generation V70, 850, 940, 740 and 240 series of vehicles.
In
The engines I would recomend to get is b230 f, fb, fk, ft, they are the most common to find and the most easiest to find parts to. The old carburetors ain't that great but they sound good with that's got sure
@@Zirkobi before Ford is first gen S60, S80 and second gen V70/XC70 too. And this generation is best. No rust, solid engines, no Ford parts ...
I just bought my 04 volvo xc70 but I miss my 850
Love my 1993 Volvo 960 wagon with 300,000 + miles & still going STRONG. : )
Southern Texas Homestead love the 960is I got one myself but a 964 “96 with the 2,5l and manual transmission:) bought it from an elderly gentleman who upgraded to a v40 and he was the first owner of it and it’s in mint condition
I had one and it was a rocket ship. It was my favorite car ever. We currently have a Volvo XC40 and a Volvo XC90 plug-in. Both are also great cars.
I love my 850 and 850R, I used to have a P2 V70R and it made me love Volvos...so I bought two :)
Nice!!! I was wondering about Volvo’s! I have a weak spot for those old Volvo wagons, good to know they are solid vehicles.
We have a Volvo xc70, two 960s and a 850. All great beasts
This video would come out the day before I start my new job as a Volvo Technician apprentice lol
"if you're going to Disney world!" *inserts picture of hell* LOOOOL
i notice that too! hehehe
LOL that was really funny 🤣
I just bought a 2013 Volvo S60 T5, have the full maintenance history, and very clean, no rust at all.
I have a 2004 xc70 with 96k miles.
He is absolutely right , I baught a 2004 XC70 eight years ago for 5 grand , and all I've done is replace the battery !
My mate at my old job had a Volvo 240 from the 90s it did 350 thousand miles with its 2.5td engine and still is driving today

Scotty you missed one of the best parts about this car....
The AWD system on it is fantastic. Very capable in sand, muck, snow.
Oh and the transmission is built by Aisin, the same Japanese company that builds Toyota transmissions...
the AWD and the automatic transmission are actually the only real weak points of these cars.
@@janjansen1897 correct. Its pure garbage, they all end up as fwd cars
The 4wd wasn’t great but the Aisin automatic transmissions are great. They only break when neglected
This is why I have one now. 5cyl. Diesel, runs forever and looks brand new from below at 20 years of age.
Reminds me of my 79'Lincoln Town car Scotty, these are built like tanks too.
@@kirkreed8547 I had a 1975 Oldsmobile 98 Regency that I hit a deer with at about 50 miles per hour,it didn't even put a scratch in the paint, but it ripped the leg off the deer though.(killed it)
@@paulparoma That sucks, sorry to hear that.
I used to have a 1975 Olds 98 Regency with airbags and 4-wheel anti-lock breaks. This was a experimental model, about only a couple hundred were ever made.
These were only offered in the 1975 model year, the body was in perfect condition, but the drivetrain was a"fix it"night mere.I was also afraid of this car, because it only had lap belts in it,in the event of a head on collision,my torso would go into the steering column, then the dynamite detonator in turn discharges the argon gas, while your face is slammed into the steering wheel, this experimental air-bag comes out of the steering column at well over 250 miles per hour, literally decapitated you, plus breaking your neck, needless to say,the longer I kept this car,the more scared of it I became.I hope that nobody has been killed in this experimental death trap. 🙏✝📖✝
Man, Dale Gribble aged well.... driving a 1998 Volvo v40 myself, perfect for country roads here in germany... they really are built to last
I am sat inside my tatty old 1999 V40 now, the worst part about it is the rust.
Thats just the ailing switch socket i guess, 10 euro spare part . Otherwise it does a whole lot of squeaky sounds here and there that worry me. But it also has absolutely 0 leaks, dry as a new engine. never saw that in any other car from that era or younger. Cheers!
I bought a used 2021 V60 for $22k less than it was new. Great car, solid. My 2010 S80 still runs and looks like brand new at 140k miles!
Volvo saved my life! I love this car.
Me too! Fantastic car.
The kids love the old body volvos . Vintage style, every netflix or new movie you watch All the cars and especially trucks are from eighties and nineties. I actually find it cool when a new show doesn't use those old cars and trucks.
I have a 2002 V70 XC with over 312K miles and it's still running strong...
My mom always wanted a Volvo station wagon and I’m glad that you made this video
Thank you Scotty
I hit a deer at 60 mph in an '08 xc90 and it barely left a dent.
The same thing happened to my brother in his Corolla and the car was totalled.
crumple zones?
Same thing here. Going about 45 in out 2010 xc90 and we immediately pulled over. I was shocked to see that the car didn't have any dents! I later learned the roof is designed if you hit a person they will get pushed upwards versus down. This way you don't run them over. Anyway, I am still blown away by this.
Are the XC90 good vehicles? I’m thinking about buying a 07 with 170000 miles.
@@fatpapi17 no i regret owning that car. Volvos are nightmares to repair
Had a Volvo 240 station wagon for many years ! It was a reliable work horse , even drove it way down bumpy logging roads for camping !
I've owned 6 Volvo's. And wish I had kept every one of them. They aren't broke in until the odometer reads 250k.
my volvo's 40 years old last month, so hearing you talk about a 13 year old one as old is... no.
@@markdowling5962 it doesn't have Lucas Electronics does it?
my oldest VW bug is about 54 years old, and the other two are just shy of 50. I only mentioned the Volvo specifically because it's my daily driver.
@@markdowling5962 that sounds about right, yeah. I have one converted to an alternator, the others don't have their original engines, and the youngest is from '73, so the date of the switch is a detail that I don't bother remembering. but yeah, all of my VW engines (I have a few spares, because why not) apart from the one have separate regulators.
@@markdowling5962 my '66 engine is 6V. I run it on 12V, though, so the 6V starter gets her running very easily.
in comparison, the bug I split daily driving with the Volvo with struggles to start sometimes.
I've almost gone to the trouble of putting the 6V flywheel and starter on the alternator converted engine, but just never gotten around to it.
I have 940 gl 1990, 700000+km, runs like a dream, compressions are good, no leakage, perfect car.
I have a 2006 Volvo v70 which is similar to this one and runs pretty well. It's gas mileage is meh but it is a tank. Like a battleship
do you have any transmission problems? I have a 2004. I baby the acceleration. It shifts a little hard in 3rd gear. how often do you check the transmission fluid?
I never check my fluid or not in a while. I'm not sure who makes their transmissions but I don't think it's jatco. It's a good auto transmission. But I did need to recently drop $3,000 to repair the engine after 171,000 miles. It runs a lot better so I think it will last a couple more years. But this car is good for new drivers if you are concerned about safety (atleast for a used car). This thing has an above average turning radius
@@Floof_Factory I see. I've been using my Volvo to commute 75 miles per work day. its perfectly fine in free flowing traffic but when its stop in go the constant shifting is causing a problem with the idling. It stalled out on me once. I will try leaving it in low gear next time.

Are they good vehicles?
I miss my 2006 XC70 cross country. Drove it for 9 years, was a dream till the end.
Been tog the Volvo museum in Gothenburg yesterday and there was a lot of great cars, concept ones and serial built. A Good spent hour I'd say! Swedish tanks deliver 😉
I'm happy Scotty has seen the Volvo 5 banger light
