Yes, it's time to part ways with the "Silver Bullet". My 2002 Volvo V70 is going to be sold. But before I take it to Carmax, I'm giving you the opportunity to own it. I would strongly prefer to let this go to a new home that can invest in it and love it. If interested, my email is in the video description, and I'll probably give it a couple of weeks before I make another move. That all being said, I LOVE the V70 and am proud to have finally owned one. For me, it makes no sense to keep it, thus I'll be selling it, but I keep thinking if it was a bit newer it might become my daily. But if I'm honest with myself, I don't see where I'd ever chose it over another car in the fleet. :)
I had one. V70 t5. Mine was the same color inside and out. They clean up easily. It also had a huge factory wing on it. A Volvo specialist (Hundreds in California) can fix that ECU in mins. I only paid $500 for a used ECU and programming. My oil cap and gas cap went bad too. Other than that it was bulletproof. If you want it to be loved keep it in the south. The Ford Volvos 2002-2016 hate the desert. Ive owned 4 of them. 740, 960, V70 and S90 😊😊
They hate the desert? That's odd? You always hear about cars that hate the NE because of the salt, but the desert? The thought of pouring some money into it to fix the issues has crossed my mind, but in the end I have my Accord and see few situations I'd take the V70 out. I love the car, and am proud to have owned one (finally), but right now it's just sitting and costing me insurance. It's time to part with it. :(
That leather look in good shape except that it’s dirty. Try alkaline water because that stuff gets dirt off well. We tried it in our car (which was also dirty😅). Also, I think the ECM needs to be mapped by a technician or a dealer. Overall, I’d like to have this car, except that I’m in Japan. I hope you find a good home for it because the V70s are some of the most iconic Swedish cars ever.
The fuel smell is probably the purge system the hose to the charcoal canister is cracked or the canister itself is cracked allowing the fumes to be noticed
@@AllCarswithJon That's probably a contributor to your dashboard "Christmas tree" too. I daily drive an older Dodge with that issue, and it's a continuous check engine light. It doesn't affect drivability or mileage so it's not on my radar since I'm not in an EPA-controlled state. Every once in a while I'll pull OBD codes to see if there's anything additional in there, but that's the work of about five seconds.
I'm in Charlotte Jon and have been a subscriber for a while. I'll go back and watch the old videos to see what issues youve been experiencing and what repairs have been made.
All those lights and a bad ECM would be the killer for that car in California. You cantvreguster the car if it doesnt pass a smog (emissions) test, and part of that test is that the check engine light has to be OFF and no codes in the ECM. If that ECM is really $2500, that exceeds the value of the car. Between that and not beng able to smog it and subsequently register it, its pretty much junkyard material. Unless you can sell it to someone in a state without emissions test, then someone can continue to legally drive a very nice low mileage turbo Volvo for many more years.
I have the same abs issue on mu 2004 xc70. I bought an abs brake module for $135 used on ebay. Thank you for showing me where to install it. I didn't know it needed to be programmed. I haven't had any noticeable issues with the brakes. I just hate having lights on my dash.
Here’s my 2cents on Volvos - around 2015 my sister and I bought used family cars. I got a 05 grand caravan and she got a 03 Volvo. Since then she has gone through 2 Volvos and I still have the grand caravan. She just got a new rav4 hybrid. Basic repairs on her he Volvo cost 4 times my van and the 4x4 went out on both of he Volvos.
Volvo is one of those brands that I have two minds on. Back when they were independent, or even when owned by Ford, I loved them. The boxy styling and reputation for durability appealed to me. Now, they're owned by Geely of China and I think they build very nice cars, but question their commitment to reliability/durability. On the other hand, as much as I love their cars and driving them, the upfront cost and possible repair costs have always kept me away. Much like the German brands, I ask myself "why not just buy a reliable Honda or Toyota?". The "feel" of the car is less important than the peace of mind that it's not going to break. That all being said, I LOVE the V70 and am proud to have owned this one. It makes no sense to keep it, thus I'll be selling it, but I keep thinking if it was a bit newer it might become my daily.
I've always liked these wagons and really wish I could buy this especially since I live about 30 minutes from Matthews but I just don't have the money.
That's a good looking wagon!!! I'd be contacting you if I hadn't just ended up with an 02 Toyota Sienna minivan. I was looking for a parts hauler for my sige gig fixing cars. A minivan and/or wagon was on my list simply due to the amount of space they offer and better mpg than a full size truck. A regular customer of mine just swapped me the van for some work because he didn't want the van trashed, or to bother with the sales process. Besides, that Volvo looks much too nice to be a parts hauler! As always... love your channel and never miss an episode! Keep up the great work and content!!
Haha!! You are most welcome! That sienna already has 252k on it. It's basically a free van. Haha. So, it could blow up tomorrow and I wouldn't be out anything. Haha
I've got a 2000 Ford Excursion with a 7.3L Powerstroke. I am planning on selling it, and an Excursion with a 7.3L can still command a decent price for vehicle over 20 years old. My front leather seats are far worse than this Volvo. I've been wondering if it would be a good investment to replace the leather with a kit in the $600-$800 range for both seats. Beat up and torn leather really make you feel the age of the vehicle. BTW, poor kid having to drive a Volvo station wagon for his first car. I can sympathize. My parents stuck me with a late 80s Dodge Caravan for my first car, as no one else was driving it. I of course understand why you picked that thing for him. My dad got T-boned in his Volvo station wagon by a car going 50 mph through a red light. The other guy's car was obliterated, while my dad's Volvo looked like it had only been in a minor accident. It did bend the frame enough that the vehicle was totaled, but it saved his life.
Seat covers. That's the solution to your worn leather. :) LOL! Just to be completely clear, this wasn't his "first car". He had an Infiniti G first. We were looking for something more reliable and the options at the time were super high mileage, rebuilt titles, or a $15k used Mitsubishi Mirage. Then this Volvo came along. He never *said* he didn't want a station wagon (he wasn't in a position to be picky), but once he drove it he LOVED it! Reminds me of when I got my VW Fox SW back in the day. It's hard to beat the functionality of a wagon! But he wanted a Saab, and he's an adult.

Hope you enjoy! And it's like 3am? :)

@overwhammingI didn’t think of the dyeing part but you’re right.
Hey Jon cars are complicated your a honest guy! peace 2u!

Good luck with the sale. Love when we leave HQ for off site videos.

Let me know if you have any questions; I think I hit the issues in this video too, but certainly more info in the other videos.

It’s time to start your own car auction website.
LOL! I did feel a bit "demuro-ish" here. :)

Parted from mine 2003 XC70 with 461000km's.

I do the same thing with a Dodge Caravan. 👍 I do have a pickup, but I like everything being secured out of the weather, plus, yeah, the mileage.
I liked them when I was a Toyota tech at a Toyota Volvo dual. Then parts got to cost your first born, an arm and a leg.

Hopefully you get a decent price for it since it has very low mileage....
Still have it?
No. Sold it weeks ago.
Sweet low mileage example.
I think dug demero is trolling you because he is selling his car also.
I saw that this morning. Luckily he's not selling a Volvo!
Of course, I get 300 views and he gets 150,000. *sigh*
@@AllCarswithJon you car is way more interesting and.more reliable with less miles
