When images of the Crown came out I didn't like it. After seeing some of them in person it looks quite good and has grown on me. Though I ended up getting a 2024 Lexus ES350 for $51k because it still has the NA V6. One the thing I like about Toyotas is they still have physical buttons for HVAC and volume knobs.

I remembered Crown was a stunning, quiet cabin at any speed, a smooth and comfy ride that effortlessly absorbed small and big bumps and dips. I have not yet ridden this Crown. Performance-wise the Crown (2.4T hybrid) is quicker than the Lexus IS350, let alone the ES350. It would be nice for Lexus to offer this powertrain in the IS and ES perhaps call it the IS400 and ES400 F-sport Performance.

I honestly think this vehicle is overhyped. First off, most people will NOT get the 340HP 2.4 Turbo variant. They will get the 2.5 Liter 236 HP. And for that, both the IS and ES are quicker 0-60. For a rolling race, both the IS and ES 350 will beat the Crown in all specs, at least on paper. The crown is similar to what Toyota did with the Venza. If you know your Lexus and your Toyota well, you can tell the shortcuts verses the NX as an example. Folks, understand that in today's age wireless Apple car play, large infotainmen screen, heated and ventilated seats are Not luxury. They are standard on all cars. It is the materials. This car has a prop, which I'm surprised Kirk didn't mention all while holding the hood. The rear trunk is also not electric assisted and so on. This car is NOT worth 55K. Toyota is doing so for marketing reasons. Get this for the looks. Remember covid? when used car prices skyrocketed? Now the manufacturers are doing the inflation right from the factories with wannabe luxury cars because they are offering heated seats, 360 cams etc which people think are luxury. They used to be but not anymore.
The 2024 Hyndai Sante fe looks 'nice' but that does not make it a luxury car nor in the same league as a land rover defender. Hyundai can choose to increase the price, again for marketing reasons. Be astute buyers and don't fall for masquerading tuxedos

Honestly, this is the best review of the Crown. I've watched several and you and your wife provided so much practical information about the actual driving experience that one only gets from sitting in the car and driving it for longer than a typical 15 min test drive at a dealership. It does look like the windows and windshield are small and glad you confirmed it. I understand that sloping lines are a necessary design choice for hybrids but the headroom shouldn't be truncated so much. You nailed it with the Crown and ES comparisons as they are similar in a lot of way. I can't believe it but in 2023, Toyota doesn't have a sedan for me. That ES redesign can't come quick enough.

    • @rrrogster
      @rrrogster 11 месяцев назад +1

I just hope Lexus has the common sense to take the Crown and improve it so that it is the ES's replacement. It makes the current version of the ES look like a dinosaur. It has the updated and latest electronics and technology and provides a better view with the 4" higher seating arrangement, and provides easier access as well. I would be happy if they got rid of the moonroof completely. It is impracticle in so many ways, not the least of which is loss of headroom.

Funny 😄, I was just looking into both cars (Crown and ES 350). Back in 2013 I looked at the Avalon and ES 350. I bought the Avalon V6 Limited fully loaded. It was around $5000 less and looked nicer. I still enjoy the car and it is in mint condition with only 48000 miles.
I was just going to keep it until it died but with used car prices being so high, I thought I should look into the new models. Also since I keep my Toyota / Lexus for over 10 years. I see Toyota and probable Lexus going to all hybrid vehicles. I don't have faith that the hybrid batteries will last as long.
The Crown needs a few years to iron out the quirks. I also has a very limited choice of colors for exterior and interior.
For the price of a nicely equipped Crown Limited, I could get the ES 350 Luxury edition with the upgraded tech package for a little less.

@@KirkKreifels wow what’s the quietest car,u drove , most comfortable.
I drove the x6,x7, Yukon, tahoe, rx, I found them not very quiet for the price.
I personally have a Venza it’s quiet…. Maybe better insulated than the rx, but rx has more sound deadening materials, but not so well insulated front passenger windows

I am surprised at the pricing. Very curious as to how the next Camry will be.

Question? Where can you get the official Crown badges? Those Toyota badges are definitely getting replaced.

Some Toyotas released models the past few years leave me feeling like I'd rather go for toyota than lexus if: I want a beautiful crossover/sedan (this one), a nimble sports car (gr86, supra, gr yaris/corolla) etc. This new crown really looks stunning and I cant say that about the new nx, neither the rx. Also theres no light sports cars to be seen anywhere. Only sports car thats considered fast is the RCF (in production) and I doubt its even faster around the track than a gr corolla (not to mention the mk5 supra). Really disappointed in Lexus. Small variety of models to choose from or none at all (lightweight-ish sports car).

To add here, I own a 2006 is350 and feel like Lexus has been going downhill the last 4 years which is a real bummer cuz the way lexus has been doing lately makes me not wanna buy a new lexus ever

LC 500 is really the only reason I'd get a Lexus right now.

I would take the two-tone orange one as a service loaner at the end of October but other than that I’m not sure who would. The two-tone metal interior has got to go.🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♂️ I tell you what that pedal sounds about as heavy as my IONIQ 5 does in iPedal mode, which is not my favorite. Thankfully with paddles, I can choose any regenerative setting on the fly and am constantly using that to my advantage.💯 23:38

🤔 mechanically speaking I don’t think the car is a “real” hybrid, it’s more like a regular car with electric assist IE mild hybrid, the engine still drives the wheel unlike a true hybrid the engine drives a motor generator unit

There are different types of hybrids. What you're detailing is a serial hybrid. This is a parallel serial hybrid

If I want to get crown I have to get Crown badge instead of Toyota Badge. I think Avalon Touring and XSE looks better than the U.S model crown.
