Love seeing this style of fishing, this has been the only way I’ve fished the last 3 years saving for a boat, and I’ve had good success with just chest waders!
Lol, I've been doing this for about 6 years and have all but abandon my boat, I should really sell the thing. I find it more simple, often more productive, and quite a bit more rewarding. It reminds me of big timber hunting, which I also enjoy... covering lots of ground, constantly learning to understand subtle features, always exploring to find areas with the best potential.
Great video, once again! (like there was any doubt) I fished a few times on the other side of the lake up at Gimli (was there for Scandanavian Days!!) Caught a few late evening Walleye and a Pike, some fat little Perch off of the big jetty that's there, which were "Released to the grease" for supper that night. Lake Winnipeg is such a massive resource for the province in tourism, sport fishing, commercial fishing and it's year round which is fantastic!! In fact next year after this Covid thing is hopefully behind us I think a trip to Manitoba is definitely in the cards!! **Quote courtesy of Mr. Jay Siemens**
Tough wading on those slippery rocks but great fishing.... Been swimming a few times myself - one time the bank gave way under me - that was exciting.....
You should let your buddy know, I've started using some of the plugs popular with the NE Striper/ Surf crowd for this type of fishing with good results. If your fishing from shore, the needs of a surf fisherman from the Northeast are often quite similar to those of a pike/ walleye fisherman on the Canadian prairies... a durable lure that will cast a mile and run shallow. Took me awhile to make that connection for some reason.
The problem with wearing a wading belt is TRAPPED AIR! I felt forward while wearing one and had trouble getting my feet under me again. Luckily I was in a river and floated to were a rock was under me. I caught it with my finger tips stopped.
I remember I went to lake Winnipeg with my dad in Gimlie it’s a place in Manitoba right beside lake Winnipeg anyways I caught the walleye which was almost a master wrangler and I thought it was good. Then my dad showed me this Chanel and in my mind I was like wow this guys are way better then me.
Very cool to see, I too am an avid "freshwater surf" fisherman. Its crazy how consistently effective fishing massive lakes from the right types of shorelines can be, and also crazy how few people know this. I dont care how big the lake is, or what type of fish live there, as long as I've got a few miles of rocky shore I can hike I'll be catching.
I do this on LW. Best to wear a Farmer John wetsuit, then your arms are nice and free and it actually helps your bouyancy if you take or want to go for a swim!
Drum are so under rated
You and uncut are the some of the best out there and the most fun to watch.
Yup
He was originally Aaron's cameraman you guys know that right?
The quality of these videos is incredible. jay deserves way more subscribers

Little late to the video but where you close to grand beach?

Gimli
Thanks for correcting my spelling.
Ha ha I've been doing this since last summer. Its extremely addictive.
i can never find a good spot on lake Winnipeg, its always ponds i so well with like the one near grand beach
Hey Jay. I have a seasonal site up that way and I tried what you did in mid September but got nothing. Is this more of a spring early summer tactic?
I think it’s good from spring till late summer!
I just caught a 28 inch/11.5 pound carp in lake Winnipeg can someone tell me if that is rare in the lake?

Only in summer can u catch those big drum
No more bass and perch??? Lake Winnipeg used to be full of them.
Awesome video
Could this be done with a fly rod? Any recommendations for fly rod size? 7-8 weight? Flies? Looks like wicked fun.
Josh, I’m on a beach and there is no water, it may be an actual desert but I can’t tell for certain. How should I target catfish here?
21:00 How do you cook a catfish that big and is it good?
In Manitoba you can fish but not take fish home and eat?
Arron was born with waders...
I wanna fish with you.
My cottage is there lmao
"Oh Jay Simons"
Do fish taste better in Manitoba?
I do this on LW. Best to wear a Farmer John wetsuit, then your arms are nice and free and it actually helps your bouyancy if you take or want to go for a swim!
First hype
😯😯😯😯😯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Alright Josh I am following you on IG you better show me the deliciousness!
Lake Winnipeg is famous for it's dangerous undertow, so yes, wear a life jacket.
This is not live because its dark out in Manitoba
Why would you think this is live? Didn't it tip you off when they switched spots and the video cut?
