God Damn I am definitely going be studying and printing out his pages!. Coipel, Jerome and Travis create great story telling sequentials. im learning a lot from these vids. Thanks Rich, Killin it!
Coipel is a beast! I think this guy is among the elite of the current crop of comic book artists. He should be seen how the Image guys were looked at in the early 90s, yet I dont think he gets the recognition. "Superstar artist" should precede his name at all times. He's the guy you put on whatever you want your flagship title to be.
Love this breakdown. Coipel is a master of what to draw and what not to draw and to let the imagination take over. I don't have much original art but I do own the Beta Ray Bill double page spread and it's a beauty in the flesh.
Just stumbled on this, and it was a real treat. Been a fan of Coipel for along time and it's very cool to hear your insight on his work and how it was influenced by Charest. Thanks for sharing.
I'm under the impression he uses photo reference a lot. Just an observation. I also wonder how he gets his line work to lie over all that blue pencil. It almost LOOKS like he's inking in Clip Studio. Like you, he impresses me enormously and makes me wanna pick up something and draw with it! _lol_
thanks for the post Kevin! I know...blue pencil can be pretty waxy and it's hard to get into go over it (with some tools) a hunt 102 will always grind into anything! haha
@@RichardFriendartist The pages are so "garbaged-up" with blue pencil and black-something smudges, you would think it would actually REDUCE resale value, but in the topsy-turvy world of collecting, I guess not.
I have just read House of M fully for the first time since owning the trade for 5 years or more. AND HOLY F what an amazing book to look at, aswell as an insanely cool story.
Even if this man drew a speck of anything it's amazing to see. He ranks right up there with the Legends. To own his artwork, would we really be worthy? ( my one and only Thor pun) Lol Thanks for sharing all these amazing artists and their incredible penciling. I noticed growing up buying comics that these artists have an eye for detail.
Last 18 months i just got back into selecting the best of Marvel trades (IMO) and spent £1500 after 25 year away from comics. Coipel (Opena up there for me too!) had me buying Thor, House of M, Spider -verse, AvX just off the back of the effect his art had on me. #prop$
there's too many great artist but none can top coipel for me atm.. his story telling is way to good, saying every piece is like a movie is no exaggeration

@@RichardFriendartist Thanks Richard. I think his art messed with my mind in a good way. Something clicked.

Totally agree. He's great!

One of the best to ever do it.

Bro, you are a phenomenal provider of content! Thank you for bringing joy and artistic light into this otherwise bleak and frightful time;)

Never made the connection but opena/coipel are current favorites
Olivier is Hella under rated. Next you should do Salvador Larroca's X-Treme X-Men, where they colored straight from the pencils.
I've got some of those for sure. Salvador is amazing!

Richard, thank you for posting this video. QUESTION: Are these inked pages available for download somewhere?
Great video! He and Yu are 2 of my favs. Any chance of you doing a Paul Grist video? Jack Staff and Mudman rocked.
I will look into those artists. Thanks!

Wow!
This video is KILLER! How do you have access to Coipel’s raw pages?
where did you get such high-quality scans of drawings? did you buy them somewhere????
Rohlala il est incroyable son dessin

How would you remove the blue under drawing in the ink wash pages?
Photoshop does it for you
@@benjamindel2037Ya, but in photoshop removing the blue behind gray wash is tricky. You get ghosting of the blue lines in the grey.
Do you not monetize your videos. Because I watch you a lot and get no ads. That's pretty badass if that's true

Who is travis?
Travis charest
Who is Travis?
You just have me someone new or obsess over.
I get his work confused with Jim Cheung's work sometimes
@Danny Cruz I checked your work on art station. Good Shit!
@@CLRF2 thanks!
Yeah similar. I feel Coipel is more dynamic and sophisticated though.
what’s the last name of Travis?
Ethan Austria charest
Thx
I appreciate it!
It's killing me that you keep referencing an artist named "Travis" without ever giving us a last name...
he signs all his work Travis. it's like saying Moebius. Travis Charest. Moebius is Jean Giraud. But Travis has gone by that name for 25 years.
