Btw, I’m 16 years old. Don’t agree with you guys about everything, but this series should appeal to the entirety of its fanbase. And first, that means serving the dedicated fans who’ve stood by this series! You have every conceivable right to expect things from these games and proper respect that should be given by the developers! Godspeed! P.S. Grew up with the sequels and they suck! Empire and Revenge for life!
A lot of people compare this game to Street Fighter 5 by it being unfinished and I agree. The game looks good but needs more polishing and major fixes to moves and the crashes-glitches.
As much as I'm not really a stickler for canon material stuff. I actually 100% agree about the views on MK1. Tbh, I won't be pre-ordering the next iteration.
Mk1 looks promising . I hope it is actually released some day.
I really like the range of opinions on different aspects of the game we got here. Gameplay talk from Temp and story from Razor.
Cyborg and Shad with two different but very healthy approaches to looking at a story or product that maybe isn’t being made for them anymore. I really appreciate Cyborg’s sharing the pie analogy, which is my view. But for Shad to just be at peace with the world not being the one he remembers and loves anymore is good too. As a fellow MK fan quickly approaching his 40s, I lean more toward the cyborg approach and cherry pick things into a head canon I’d like to put into words one day if I ever get the time.
As much hate as SF5 got on release, the core fighting game mechanics worked. MK1 got released with a broken player 1 side.
That would be like the next gen Ford Mustang getting released with an upgraded sound system but a missing wheels.
Both games were rushed but, it's important to realize that Ed Boon rushed core gameplay. I think data miners have already found the true tag mechanics this game was supposed to have.
@nicklattimorecomedy5497 Everyone ages. Not everyone reaches a high score.
I actually really loved the story mode. I think it kind of falls apart in the last few chapters but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, thought it did a really great job at establishing this new timeline while still leaving enough unanswered questions and unresolved plot threads to leave me excited for future stories. There are a lot of changes they’ve made to characters in this game that I prefer to the old timeline (and some that I don’t care for). Even though the ending was pretty rough I still feel confident in calling it the best story mode NRS has done, maybe the best in any fighting game I’ve played
This. I feel that NRS tried to go really big at the end, when the story would have been better served by just focusing on how the relationship between Earthrealm and Outworld broke down. That said, the story gave us so many things that we've been asking for as fans.

You guys should really put time stamps on your videos
As much as i love Ed and NRS, i find it hard to believe that they had no input on what skins were decided to go to the shop and what they would be sold for. I feel like if ed and company really cared we wouldn't be scratching and clawing for dragon crystals. Im on level 50 right now i havent recieved any crystals for leveling up my profile. You hardly get any rewards at all for leveling your profile up. Yes i agree that WB are the main ones behind the ponzy scheme, but this is not the first time the fans have complained about the lack of rewards we get for grinding. That is a NRS issue in my opinion. The majority of fans dislike invasions, well Derek was the main man behind that game mode. We cant give NRS a pass just because they have a lot of likeable people
It doesn't matter if you complain wb doesn't care. Just look at their games shadow of war, gotham knights and suicide squad. Wb and the gaming industry only care about player retention. Nrs doesn't have a say in that their just devs who can be replaced at anytime.
@@dec2567 their the devs who made this game. They decide who makes the roster, how the story mode pans out, and who is in the future plans for dlc. To think NRS has nothing to do with any of the grievances the fans have is very naive thinking
@@OsamayaMomma I'm talking player retention and grind. I don't have a problem with all that other stuff. They said it's a new universe from the beginning. You can accept it or complain about it. I know this community like whining and complaining about everything but I'm not one of them.
@@dec2567 lmfao wow, seeing as how my original comment had nothing to do with those topics, I thought it was clear that I was using them as examples of NRS's involvement. But I guess you're too busy trying to pick an argument to see that. Yes WB wants player retention, but it's NRS as well as any other game developers, they decide how they will implement that retention. They are the ones who decided to implement a grindy mobile game esque invasion mode. WB didn't go to them with the ideas of inviasions. And you're clearly not familiar with the industry if you think otherwise. Do you know what all those games you mentioned have in common? They're all dead now and they were being sold at discounted prices only weeks after release. Just look at the PC version of this MK. And you can call us complainers all you want. This community gets things done and speaks out to make this game better. It's like cyborg said, people like you are the problem. Youll sit there and bend over and take any punishment no matter the length or girth
@@OsamayaMomma nope wrong if the is ass like mk11 I just won't play it or buy the dlc. I think mk11 is the worst nrs game and I didn't play it. I think mk1 is fun so I'm playing it. It's not perfect but it's fun too me,and mk11 is fun for other people. People who support mk11 and the grind it had is the reason it's still here speak with you're wallet if you don't like the game.
Havik is Dairou as I've noticed. If MK1 gets expanded, wonder if Dairou now as Havik will meet the Titan version of Havik and share with him his powers & knowledge? Just before his death.
We need the Havik in the New Era to be given the "May chaos break the rules/laws that bind us!" vibes again!
@NetherKast thank you for the uplifting Kontent, and your Appreciation for the Lore of this Series that no one else has. Sub 4 Life !
Cyborg you're wrong about the base game costing more if there was no micro transactions. If anything games should cost less nowadays because of how rushed the productions are. Games should cost less because there is almost no data on the actual compact disc. That's why we have to download the game instead of just playing it from the disc.
"The value needs to be there" 💯
It’s just lazy writing, Razor. They just throw shit together. Either the people now don’t remember specifics about the shokan or osh-tekk (even though the race is new to the nrs era) being a realm that was conquered, or they just don’t give a fuck and know that casuals will accept it and think, “oh man that scene was so cool”. How does Bi-Han have ice powers? “Idk, fuck it he’s sub zero”. I just don’t get what was so wrong with what we had before. How hard is it to write new stories that make sense with the original material. I get they want to come up with their own new stuff, but not taking the time or caring enough to review the source material when crafting a new story (even in a “new era”) is just sad, lazy and embarrassing. I’ve given them a pass the last three games when y’all have been more critical, but now it’s to the point where I can’t.
I haven’t gotten to it yet in the episode so idk if y’all address it, but holy shit the intros are awful in this one. And the fact that there isn’t a counter response back to P2 is a clear sign the game was rushed.
Gameplay is great. Positivity.
100% This game was fantastic up until the Sindel chapter. The new story and lore felt very Disney Star Wars sequel/Game of thrones season 7/8 writing levels. You know there is potential there even with the source material but it’s still just bad and lazy writing. They could’ve dove more than into the Lin Kuei lore or how they got their abilities in a Smoke chapter but we didn’t even get that 😂🤦🏻♂️.
"How does Bi-Han have ice powers? “Idk, fuck it he’s sub zero”. I just don’t get what was so wrong with what we had before.” --- its been like that since MK2/MK3. many of the lin kuei have cold abilities like Frost. this is nothing new.
"not taking the time or caring enough to review the source material when crafting a new story (even in a “new era”) is just sad, lazy and embarrassing." --- you do know what a reboot is... right?
@@ProperXSmoke I enjoyed the early chapters, but once they moved on from building the foundation of the main protagonists, it went downhill fast.
To me it’s like a weird version of nepotism. The lore, original story/characters provide so much to work with. But, for whatever reason, the writers continuing the story are squandering an amazing opportunity. They get to work with one of the best universes in fiction, but hold no respect whatsoever for what they were given and don’t even try and do it justice. It’s so frustrating.
@@AviatorsVEVOidgaf if it’s rebooted, you seem to be missing the point. They aren’t explaining anything. It’s the actual story itself that sucks. Why does sub zero have ice powers? Why does scorpion have control of fire? Why isnt outworld/edenia/ALL THE OTHER REALMS THAT SEEM TO BE MERGED explained? If you reboot and change shit you have to make it make sense. It’s just lazy. It’s wanting to use what we had, but wanting to make it their own and not put any effort in. lol like it’s not a debate.
The story used to be layered, now it’s thrown together.
@@Bnk337 Aviators seems to not be aware that there was an explanation for why Sub-Zero and Frost had ice powers in previous timelines and thinks 12 isn't being written any differently standards-wise.
I was surprised when it was revealed the game was coming out in September. From the leaked call and official announcement I thought it should have been a late November/early December release and I think we would have had a more fleshed out game. Having said that as a guy that doesn't get much time in (kids/work/wife etc) and who favours the single player experience I am having a blast
There really is no d1 meta in this game, with how negative they are and how easily pokes can be jailed into highs. Sindel’s 24 for example is so easily jailed. Completely different from MK11 poke heavy meta
Do you have a 2 or 3 character list of Who should definitely be On this game? For me; where's Jade, and Noob? I would like to see what Titan Hanzo universe looks like.
For players who have No business being in Online matches; like me; this game is definitely lacking replayability. $109 I kinda feel cheated..... 52 now, I can't do more than 8 hit combos, my timing and button memory sucks.
Are the move list issues fixed yet? I hate these towers where I can't breathe, can't see, & have 4 or 5 things coming at me the whole time; wtheck?
its amazing how well they made the music in this game, my favourites: tarkatan colony ; the living forest ; the hanging gardens ...
I love the wu shi academy music!
@@Ghost-qq6dv me too but nott at top3 for me
This is the one we’ve been waiting for
Hi guys! Do you answer questions here?? I'm a button mashing player, cannot seem to remember these button sequences. Never play online battles as a result....
So even though I've gone through invasion modes twice there are several characters; I'm trying to get up to at least level 12. Also trying to get my assist characters up to level seven. As I'm sure you know this takes forever! What's the easiest way? @ what level do you unlock the most of these characters' skins? & lastly for now; how do I get more dragon crystals without buying them?
Now that all the people overseeing Halo are gone, I seen act Man's video on it and gave it a try myself. If only the game released the way it is right now we could have had something special.
I really love the game and what is there, but I was expecting ALOT more from invasions and it was only my retentiveness that made me go back and finish my invasions fights. I really hope they add a lot to this-in some cases- a $110 video game
$6 for a pack of three in MK11. Worked perfectly with me.
For MK1 I would be ok with bundling three costumes for $8-9 at most. That’s accounting for inflation. $10 feels too much.
I've been looking for someone to speak on the lack of content, without any knowledge of what was happening in the background i felt like this game came out bare bones so they could release content over the next few years
Ive not heard anyone talk about thw fact that Quan Chi is just like Shang from 11, and Ermac seems to have the bones of Noob...i hope this isn't thebway they release.
Don't worry ,Is always like this with the npc of NRS ,don't wrry NRS have good record to not copy-paste movesets to previous games. Is just place holder.
All dlc characters will have their own unique gimmicks and move-list.
I had fun with the spectacle of the story as it's just a comic movie at this point. It falls apart the more you think about it but so does every story.
Premium edition preorder gave me 1600 dragon Krystal’s.
Shang Tsung announcer voice in the shop week 1 - 1,000 Dragon Krystals
Give me a break NRS 😂🤦🏻♂️
It kills me that the intro dialogs are relegated to multi-player select screen, that's so trash to me. The opening, and mid fight dialog was some of the best parts of MK 11, and it feel so bare bones without it. The game play is solid but the replay value doesn't feel there at all right now
This game needs better defensive options for it to be great.
Temp made a great point here. MK1-armageddon is the original timeline, and the mk11 and MK12 are for the new fans and younger kids.
My basic thoughts: Game is fun. Like good lord is it so much fun to play. Combos are fairly simple, even the harder ones just come down to learn the timing.
Story mode is a fun romp with really high highs and a crashing low in the third act that has a monstrously chaotic and wild ending that is fun until the wimpy final boss. So many characters are not utilized well if at all, like how Smoke gets nothing, not even a Story only Kameo spot, when he had one of the best chapters in MK9. The writing is not great, but it's a goofy fun time that I equate to the Michael Bay Transformers films, turn your brain off and enjoy the ride type stuff.
Invasions is really cool at the beginning, but gets so stupidly repetitive and easy at a certain point that I was just grinding out skins and occasionally swatting a fly that was shaped like an MK character, but I'm hopeful that they'll fix some of Invasions issues in Season 2 at latest Season 3.
Design, both characters and stages, look fantastic. I have no complaints on any of the designs, except Tanya, even character designs that seem hated by the community I dont mind at all, except Tanya. And the stages are all just 10/10 all the way through.
The roster is fantastic and if I had one gripe with it it would be that I think Havik is shoehorned in, but if [[[SPOILER WARNING]]] the ending is meant to set up what's going on next with Titan Havik being the next baddy we deal with in the story expansion then it makes sense why hes there, a little tease of whats coming.
Overall 8/10, it does have a lot of issues, but none that made me upset or actively dislike or not want to play the game. Its good and has the potential to be phenomenal with a few tweaks.
I agree I think most people feel that way. If you go anywhere beside twitter or reddit.
MORE chip? Oh no, temp 🫣 maybe balanced chip. Also, it’s not just baraka cyrax. raiden cyrax is annoying af
johnny cyrax, kenshi cyrax, kung lao cyrax, li mei cyrax... anybody that can get you in the air will be a problem when paired with cyrax.
@@AviatorsVEVOyes, but I’m mainly talking about the chip. Raiden cyrax is maddening. I don’t personally mind the launch but the chip with baraka/cyrax and raiden/cyrax is ridiculous.
@@Bnk337 chip shouldn't even be in the game tbh. street fighter 6 mostly got rid of it & it made the game so much better.
I'm a massive MK fan but this game is a big let down outside of story mode. Completely bare bones and lacking features, Kameos are awful and break the game when it comes too combos. Invasions is terrible and repetitive. Worst MK in the past few years and I have no desire to go back on it 😢
Dominic has to go. He can’t write a story there were things are like in the story more or less, but he has too many chances for the last three games to get right. It’s real simple the entertainment industry from movies to video games. Just look at this young generation as stupid. I believe that they just don’t feel that this young generation can’t comprehend what do you watch This is why a lot of these characters are so simplistic now when they’re back stories. They should be able to learn the lote just as I did, and I was only 3 when the first MK game fropped. I do blame generation Z is because they don’t care about anything but gameplay don’t matter what type of game it is. As long as it has multiplayer, they don’t care. And then also some of these writers are talentless to and they’re only there because they’re friends with someone. Scorpions identity. I still not over that yet. And I have the feeling that. noob will be Hanzo. This is like. IG Raditz was the one that got sent to earth, and he becomes Goku and Kakurot is season 1 villain in dragon ball Z.
wat?
Not to sure what it is with MK fans and their aversion to online play. People spend 60 hours on single player when they could use 1 or 2 of those hours to practice a character they like. All it takes is pulling up a youtube guide and then you'd get hundreds of hours out of the game instead of being bored fighting the cpu.
Modifiers, armor and max damage need to go in invasion. Just let me earn my rewards and move on. Armored fatal blows need to go too
Listening to this in hindsight is very sobering. Sad, but sobering.

Gameplay I still say MKX is the best but greatest roster of all time is definitely MK1, it beats MK9 roster. Are you still in the game? Will have more Contin on their expansion DLC. I haven’t even gotten a chance to play invasion shut the resident evil 4 separate ways DLC came out, so I went to that. I’ll start invasions Friday.
I think this game is slightly unpolished/lacking base content. I agree that we should all be very concerned for the future of the shop. Other than that i love this game. Excited to play it for at least the next four years im sure. Ive never been more excited for characters and content being addded.
I'm probably echoing a lot of what you guys have said, but one of the reasons 11 was so infuriating is because we had things to lose. X actually moved the story forward and developed quite a few characters in meaningful ways, so seeing 11 flush all of that down the toilet for the sake of yet another reboot was incredibly frustrating. This is not the case with MK1 at all. I'd argue that a post-reboot story has no stakes by definition, the only way to go is up, really.
The other big problem with 11 is that it completely squanders its premise. Kronika should've gone full Eternal Champions and plucked the Great Kung Lao and Onaga from the timestream to act as her ultimate enforcers. Instead, she settles on pulling forward a few characters from the MK2 tournament (not even the Midway one, the MK9 one). What this basically amounts to is seeing Biff Tannen and Old Man Tannen running around together, which is really underwhelming and not nearly as retarded as it should be. The most interesting thing she accomplishes is abusing the Law of Divine Conservation (apparently it's a thing) to erase Dark Raiden from existence by bringing another Raiden into the same point in time. It's a plot development that literally nobody was happy about, but at least it was a nominal attempt to play around with the mechanics of time travel.
Compared to all this, I'd say that the first two acts of MK1 (when it's still a komfy rural martial arts fantasy) are the best NRS story modes have ever been. Once Nunika Shang becomes the focal point, it stumbles noticeably. But then we get to the Pyramid.
Going back to "squandering your own premise" for a sec, I think that if you do decide to take the capeshit plunge and completely fuck over any kind of stakes for your franchise by introducing muh timelines into it, the least you can do is have fun with it. Go big or go home. MK1 takes the same basic idea as 11 and goes "fuck it, every MUGEN DONUT STEEL OC is now canon".
I can't describe the MUGEN chapter in any way other than schlock-kino. It's like equal parts love letter to itself and borderline self-parody. It made me wonder how a 10-year old me, at what was probably the height of my MK fandom, would've reacted to seeing Quantum Chi and Klockodile. :) My brain would probably boil out of my ears, lmao. If this was the last MK game ever, I honestly wouldn't even be mad. Yes, it's unabashedly full retard, but at least it's the fun and imaginative kind of retarded, as opposed to 11, which just felt shackled and boring in its badness. You can tell NRS had a lot of fun with the Armageddon chapter, and it shows. My only real complaint is that it didn't show us any visitors from alternate timelines that we might actually give a shit about, like the 95 movie one, the DotR one, or even the Midway one. Low-key acknowledging King Kano from Snowblind is a good first temp, but come on, give me more!
That said, though, I hate the multiverse shit as much as anyone, but unfortunately it seems to be big Hollyslop trend right now, and until both Dom and the industry as whole get it out of their systems, we're kinda stuck with it. I just hope whatever Aftermath-type expansions we get will konverge the timelines or find another excuse to erase the Hourglasses from existence, because the story can't go on like this.
tl;dr MK1 is what 11 should've been in the first place.
On PC never had one crash and game runs good master the first update.
If Razor wants to try out some different game modes he should try out the Seasonal Towers in Invasions. It’s an 18 fight tower with 4 or 5 skins to unlock but it does have about 5 other games similar to the fireball game mode.
This reminds me of Dead Or Alive 6. The game feels unfinished and they wanted players to pay lots of money for dlc. A lot of the dlc is dlc we already paid for in doa 5 and resold at full price. A season pass close to $100 per season.
I think the game is very good, the stages, the music the roster, the whole look for me, but have to say the same with it needing more single player kontent, I don't mind the whole timeline/multiverse storyline & I would say this iteration of it was way better than 11 & more expanded upon to feel less confusing, to keep a game going for 30+ years & trying to keep fan favorite characters relevant & fresh & not becoming stale/same old is a hard task to do i imagine so I can see why they went down this path, but great to see 3D era characters come back & have story moments! 8.5 could be a 9 if certain issues get fixed, but if all the store skins are going to be the price the scorpion one is that's a huge let down for me aswell!
Enjoyed the review guys as always 👍
11:00 The last patch resolved a lot of the PC version. Brutalities and animations now work correctly. 😅
I hope they release MK 1 on PS4

With all of its problems this still my favorite so far
Let’s Go
My opinion on the game.
1. Super fun, super addicting.
2. Story was a good time, looked gorgeous, and wasn't afraid to be a little goofy/campy which i enjoyed.
3. Roster is one of the best in MK history
4. Invasions is meh. Not going to touch it unless i have to.
5. Customization is lacking
6. Kameos offer an insane amount of verity.
7. Stages are stunning
8. Music is sick
9. Online could be more stable but no crazy issues
10. I hate smoke
Invasions sucks hairy man ass. Not fun and repetitive. Cyrax as a helicopter is tight af though.
Lets go im excited!
