You have really helped me to understand the lecca process better, thank you, and keep the info coming about lecca. Now I want to try an orchid in leca.
You will be amazed at how easy it is. The orchids seem to love it. Just make sure you have a place where the orchid can get bright indirect sun or a grow light. Otherwise, it won't bloom. Now go give it a try!😊

Hooray Peggy for this video! I remember asking you about your orchids quite a while ago and I'm so happy to see more details on your orchids in leca. HiPeggy I loved this video and I have wanted to try LECA but was overwhelmed with all the measuring of the nutrients and PH levels this is just to the point the reason why I like all your other videos thanks!!!
Very cool. I have always wanted to try something like this. I love the look of those little balls. I do something similar with what I call bottle culture. I use it on phalaenopsis orchids outside.
This is such a great intro to LECA ! I've definitely been on the fence about switching some of my plants to LECA and really love the glass vessels you use - but how to do you safely put holes in them and without breaking?? 💚
I'm glad you liked the video. LECA is so easy! It is easy to put holes in glass with a diamond drill bit. I just did several yesterday and should have recorded. Maybe I will do a video on that for next week. It's the exact same process and tools as in my video on drilling holes in ceramic and glass. I haven't broken a glass yet! *knock on wood!
Thank you, Ms. Peggy! You are clear, concise and so informative with no extra! That’s what I need. My anxious brain can’t do extra. 😬 I feel ready to try this. I’m going to try my first glass no-net pot transition. I just did my first net pot one this morning. I’m terrified of glass drilling (it seems a little complicated living in an apartment without a backyard; but I think it might be possible. I’m trying a mason jar first so I can measure the water level with those markings. I’ll phone a friend aka my husband to help me with the glass drilling after I see how these first trial ones go! 💪🏾) Again, thank you! If you have a CashApp or similar I’d love to donate for your time. 💚🌱
Thank you! The key to drilling the holes is going slow with even pressure. I've never broken a glass and didn't have any experience when I started drilling holes. Using a diamond bit is important and I actually drill mine over the kitchen sink. It makes cleaning up any dust bits quick and easy. Once you put the hole in, you won't need to gauge the water level since you won't be able to fill past the hole. Also, you will be able to visually see how high the water is wicking up in the Leca. I'm sure it will turn out fine for you! Thanks for the donation offer. Right now, I don't have anything like that set up. Watching the videos alone, is appreciated. Good luck!

This was great Peggy, i bought a Hoya Retusa starter plug and put it in LECA with super thrive, would you believe in 1 month of this the Retusa bloomed!! I cant even believe it
I do believe! That's great. The Hoya Kerrii in this video was doing limp and hadn't grown a new leaf in a year. I put it in LECA and it has grown several new leaves and is plump. LECA can give some amazing results. Happy growing!
Very informative video, thank you for making it so simple to understand, I think I’ll try it now. Your voice is so soothing, I’m so happy I subscribed ☺️
Hello and welcome to the plant family! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I encourage you to give it try. Next thing you know, you'll have everything growing in LECA. 😊
I'm no expert, but I've been growing orchids like this for years and have never tested for PH or anything else. The plants are happy and bloom yearly. I like to keep it simple. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video, I like how it's really step by step with explanation at each point. I have a question: do you remove old soil-roots after they died out? Would it be dangerous to the plant if I dig it out of leca, remove these roots and then replant into fresh leca with just water roots? I kind of feel I don't want to keep rotten roots in a jar
I'm pleased you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching. Yes, you can remove the soil roots. The nice thing about using Leca is it is easy to remove them from the Leca without damaging the plant/roots. I remove my plants to clean up the roots as well as to remove algae, without any problems. No need to keep the rotten roots. 🌿💚
@@PeggysPlants Oh that's so good to know. Thank you. I'm starting my friendship with plants and already messed up few plants with wrong type of soil and overwatering 🤦♀ So I hope leca will help me maintaining it better. Oh I have another question: can I mix a gravel / decorative grit (sorry, English isn't my mother tongue and I'm not sure how it's called, I mean a nice looking little rocks that you can buy in plant shops) with leca to make it a little bit more attractive to look at?
I will keep that in mind. I've been using them for several years in the same manner and haven't had an issue. However, that's good to know. Thanks for your input!
Hi Peggy I just found you, and I’m now subscribed m. Thanks so much for this informative thread. I’m just starting out. I’ve killed a couple of my plants so far. I’d like to know what tool you used to put holes in the glass vessels?
Hello and welcome to our plant family! Here is a link to a video I made that shows step by step how I drilled the holes. Hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html
Amazing video content and explanation! Could you tell me how do you make a hole in your vases, please? Thank you so much. I'm new to indoor plants 🪴 but really want to give ot a try! ❤xx
Hi Peggy, thanks for the video. This is November 2022. Is your process the same for Leca? I want to try using Leca but I don’t want to go through that Ph process. I’m a new plant owner and have lost many a plant because I forget to water. This process seems so clean. I watch Orchid girl videos and want to grow a few orchids. Thanks for your response and thanks for keeping your plant growing and care simple.
Hello! My Leca process has not changed in years and I'm still doing everything the same way. It has really worked for me when it comes to difficult plants. I still don't have a clue what the PH is for any of my plants and they continue to thrive. I think you will be surprised at how easy working with Leca is.
Hi, Peggy! I'd like to make a request. I live in Fort Myers, FL, so not too far from you at all, and I'm wondering how people like us would "winter over" our house plants. Like for our 2 days of winter? Or do certain plants still go dormant no matter where you live? Id like to know what you do and would love to see a video on it. I thoroughly enjoy your channel. Thanks so much!
Hello Tara! I am just beginning to transport my plants from our home in the Keys to Central Florida. I've been living in zone 11, which is a tropical climate, so I have not had to overwinter or worry about plants going dormant. That's something I will have to learn about in the future. Maybe a viewer who lives in Central Florida will see your question and respond. Thanks for watching!
Hello There Peggy! I discovered yr channel on LECA for beginners. After going through so many on YT. Yours is comprehensive and easy to follow and understand. Thank you for sharing all your tips and advice on LECA here. I have just bought LECA and am in the process of washing & soaking them. Planning to start by transferring my little Wandering Jew & Hoya Carnosa plant cuttings now rooting in a glass of water & soil, onto LECA. And go slowly & hopefully progress from there. Looking at all the various water vessels here. Here in my country of Singapore it’s always hot & humid. Watering requirements are different. Tons and tons of beautiful orchids are here. Could you tell me how you put that hole into the side of yr transparent disposable cup? Also would there be a need for holes are the bottom too or just holes at the side of the cup? Thank you so much. Going to follow and subscribe.
Welcome Joy! I'm happy my video was helpful. The purpose of having a hole in the side is so you know exactly where your water level is. This is especially important when you first start your plant in leca so that you know your roots are above the water line and will not be sitting in water. No need to put holes in the bottom, since that would prevent your vessel from holding water. I use a soldering iron to put holes in my plastic cups. Best of luck!
Hi there Peggy, I'm just getting used to Leca for my plants and so far so good.... My orchid is in Leca in a glass jar without drainage holes... Do you think this will be a problem for it? Does it still need water at the bottom of the vase?
I keep it simple and use the same fertilizer I use in my other plants. I use miracle gro. Here is a link to my video on drilling holes in glass. ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html
Hi Peggy, I love all your plant videos! Thank you for making them so informative!! I wanted to ask a question - how much water do you fill in into yourself-watering pots with LECA? Does the water touch the booth of mesh pot or is it below the mesh pot? Do you use a wick that sits in the water reservoir at the bottom of these pots?
Hello Sarika, I don't use a wick in my leca pots. The bottom of the mesh pot is in the water, since it is the only way the Leca can wick up water, since there is no wicking string. Starting off, I always make sure the roots are not in the water and can grow down to the water. Hope that helps.
@@PeggysPlants Thank goodness I found this question and your answer regarding self-watering pot and leca.I have few self-watering pot and I just bought leca but I'm new to leca. Thanks to your video and great explanation (straight to the point and easy to understand, no unnecessary dragging details) I understand more about it. I have a question. If I'm using self-watering pot with leca, do I need to cut the roots if the root growth reach the water? Or do I need to replace with bigger pot? I hope you can answer this.
Is it possible to grow an indoor herb garden with Leca? I am looking for something that won't attract bugs, and that is not expensive, like hydroponics.

This video was very informative! Thank you for sharing your LECA knowledge!
My pleasure. 🌿💚Glad you enjoyed it.
Im gonna put my Kerrii in LECA its been 8 mths on mine and it has done nothing
Absolutely helpful video, it's full of information!
See you on the next video! 😎👍🔔
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
Interesting as usual Peggy, thank you!
Thanks for watching. You're welcome!
Thank you Peggy I worried about the ph until this video
I'm no expert, but I've been growing orchids like this for years and have never tested for PH or anything else. The plants are happy and bloom yearly. I like to keep it simple. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
Very informative & helpful video. 🙂
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching.
Thanks for a a very informative and easy to understand video! I might just try a few of my plants in Leca now!
Glad it was helpful. I think you would be surprised at how easy it is. Thanks for watching.
Very informative! Thank You 💚
You are so welcome!
Great informative video 🙂🥰
I'm pleased you found it informative. Thanks for watching!🌿💚
So informative
Glad you think so. Thanks for watching!
I’ve heard the clay sludge can accumulate in your pipes. I rinse my LECA outdoors weather permitting.
I will keep that in mind. I've been using them for several years in the same manner and haven't had an issue. However, that's good to know. Thanks for your input!
I would like to try this on a Hoya.
My local nursery supply store does not sell lecca so I have to order some. Thank you for the video.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching and happy growing!
❤xx
I'm pleased you found my video helpful. Here is how I put holes in my glass vessels. ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html
Fantastic!! I'm going to have to try this!
Please do! You'll be surprised how easy it is. Thanks for watching. 🌿💚
Thank you for replying to me. Have a Blessed Day!!!
I like it very much, but I don’t start yet. I don’t know hows’ to start ? Timely you just showed this video and here I go..........
It's easier than you think. Happy growing!
What glass cutter do you use? I can't wait to try leca this weekend.
Here is my video on cutting holes in glass: ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html Enjoy your project!
Hi Peggy, do you have video on how u drilled the holes?? Thank you🌹
Yes, I do. Here is a link. ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html
❤❤❤
😊🌿💚
How did you manage to drill the holes in the glass? Thanks

It's not as difficult as you may think. Best of luck!
Such a great explanation video, thank you! But how do you make the holes on your glass vessels?
Glad you found the video helpful. Here is a link to my video on drilling holes in glass. ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html
@@PeggysPlants Thank you!
Is there a video on how cut the glass
Thank you very much for this excellent video. If I may ask, should the soil roots that die off be removed at some point? Thank you
I usually don't remove mine until I have to clean the algea from the vessel or flush my leca.
Very informative and simple enough for beginners! Thanks! How do you put those holes on glass containers?

Hi there Peggy, I'm just getting used to Leca for my plants and so far so good.... My orchid is in Leca in a glass jar without drainage holes... Do you think this will be a problem for it? Does it still need water at the bottom of the vase?
There are many ways to use Leca. Not having a drainage hole isn't a problem but I always leave some water at the bottom of the vessel.
What nutrients do you use? Also how do you drill holes into the glass?
What did you use to make hole in glass container?
I used a drill. Here is a link to my video showing how I do it. ruclips.net/video/JH_yUVZSqGc/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Is it possible to grow an indoor herb garden with Leca? I am looking for something that won't attract bugs, and that is not expensive, like hydroponics.
I've drown herbs in water so I don't see why it wouldn't work with Leca. Best of luck!
When you put the lecca in plastic cup with hole doesn't the water spill out?
You only put the water up to the hole. I explain the how and why in this video. Video link
