Love the options. Dr. Mike is more friendly for someone training at home gym without access to cables. If I was training in a commercial gym I would definitely mix and use both
I’ve just started doing those cable curls leaning forward from a previous dr Mike video and they are awesome. Still Learning after 40 years in the gym.
I would ideally pick Eric's 3, however in my garage gym I don't have a cable machine so Dr. Mike's 3 is one I would go with as most practical. Love all 6 movements.
Yes I have tennis elbow too and have severe pain doing skull crushers and even barbell curls, but lying biceps cable curls are a godsend will definitely try Eric's bench version...!
Yes I have tennis elbow and have severe pain doing skull crushers and even barbell curls, but lying biceps cable curls are a godsend will definitely try Eric's bench version...!
Eric's exercises because I destroyed my elbows with heavy skull crushers early on in my training career. I have to use cables for arms now, with the exception of weighted chins, dips, and close grip bench press
I agree, but my elbows are a mess from bjj. I also like Eric's is all one setup. Tricep, bicep, tricep superset(s) and finished, plus the dropset is faster. I always feel I am being self indulgent doing arms, now I can knock them out in 10 minutes.
The bench push down is great because gravity keeps your torso in position. If you’re standing, you have to balance. The cable is still pulling in the same way relative to your body.
I like Eric's list better since it's all cables. It's easier to change the line of resistance and make any small adjustments if necessary opposed to Dr. Mike's exercises where you can't change much on a barbell (or e z bar) skull crusher, or the other two exercises for that matter. All of the exercises Dr. Mike showed actually cause discomfort for me, elbows and/or shoulder joints. While cable stuff like Eric shower is always fine, since I can always make those small changes to make it fit my personal needs
Literally just tried the lying bicep curl. I legit felt I was gonna tear my bicep when I tried to push it to failure, AMAZING! 10/10, I'll do it always now. The stretch is insane!
Going to try either flat or decline drag curls. Maybe better still, do them as Dr. Mike prescribes ( see what i did there ) and at fail, finish with drags! Ought to be pleasant. 😊
I don't have gym or cable machine access, only some home free weights. So Dr. Mike's exercises are ideal for me. One question, though - are skull crushers and lying french press the same thing?
I follow both channels closely and at 42 lean a lot to controlled cable stuff that Eric uses however I use both channels to just choose my exercise variations so use all of these anyway
I did these for a long time and they were so much better than standing. I never understood why they were better until watching Dr. Mike and friends explaining the stretch principal in every single video. I never imagined doing them lying down though.
For me, Eric's tri movements are better & Mike's Bicep movement is better. Those 3 are part of my current routine and have made a huge difference for me
They both make numerous incorrect claims about “max tension in the stretched position” which you can see are false just by looking at the video. In the skullcrusher clip it’s clear that the moment arm is zero at the start if the movement with the forearms straight down. For incline curls the moment arm and therefore tension is not maximized until the forearm is parallel to the floor, halfway through the movement. With Eric’s overhead cable movement, he starts with the cable directly in line with his forearm, again producing zero torque around the elbow joint (and the elbows look like they’re only at about 90 degrees of flexion, so not a full stretch either.
Kinda surprised Mike didn’t mention this. I think when doing the cable curls you should curl all the way up as your biceps assist in glenohumeral flexion. Stopping early is just missing out on gains
@@JronDon854 he's been talking a lot about how angry he is, how violent his thoughts are, his inability to feel human emotions etc. He says himself it's because of the mental gear he's shooting up all the time. @@petaflop3606I took that hamstring curl video as letting out his emotions in the gym cause he just finished a show which he didn’t do very well in after trying so hard and posting about retiring from teying to get his pro card.
Great suggestions. Unfortunately skull crushes have destroyed my elbows recently and I can’t do them at the moment. Love the other suggestions. Thanks guys.
Start with pushdowns to warm up the elbows. And then slowly increase the weight on skullcrushers. Also try and bring the elbows not right above your head but a little back to stretch the triceps better. Skullcrushers is really a top tier exercise
Even better. Use some light bands for before letting the triceps do anything. Find the right band exercise and range of motion to find what you are looking for. Consider changing your grip and/or increasing the rom within the set to save time. Most of the time I throw a mini band over my chin bar (or choke it to high pulley with stack plugged somewhere low) to pushdown with neutral grip for one set, followed by alternating for a certain amount of reps a side. For the last set I keep one arm contracted while pushing the other. This being succesful greenlights start training. What and how much you need might be different at times. Find out and develop the sense of your triceps being ready.
@@PK_Dutch yeah bands are also a great idea. Usually I've done shoulders or back before hitting triceps so my elbows are warmed up and never had any issues of this kind
I don't want to pick haha I actually want to combine and pair each of their corresponding exercises on the same day. That way I would get a cable and a freeweight exercise for each muscle on arm days.
I prefer hammer curls over normal curls. I don't see a point in training a single muscle when I could adjust it a little bit, pull a bigger weight and train 3 muscles instead (brachialis and radiobrachialis).
I’m not a fan of Dr. Mikes Bicep pick. My issue with it is how much front delt isometrics are required to perform the movement, they can be the limiting factor in my experience.
“F females, although I’ve never tried..” 😭😭😭 this man Mike is hilarious
Perfect example of the evolution of lifting. Bench supported cables all year have been blowing up my arms like never before 💪😉
You two are inspiration! Thank you for being so informative and keeping it real! You are the MVPS!
Dr Mike just because minimal setup for all, benches and dual cables at busy commercial gyms are tough to do.
Exactly.
Honestly
@@billbredeck1249 yeah you are effectively taking out both cable stacks and the middle chinup station.

Why does Mike look 10x better without a tan
gives the muscles and vascularity a more “freaky” look i think

Thanks for these tips, can’t wait to start using them. Time efficiency is a plus so getting more pump out of less time is a big win.
I'm gonna try Mike's exercises on Leg Day and Eric's ones on my rest day. They'll surely work!
i like both lists but i agree with Eric about heavy skullcrusher's giving a weird elbow feeling, so i'd rather do extension exercises for tri's
Yes I have tennis elbow too and have severe pain doing skull crushers and even barbell curls, but lying biceps cable curls are a godsend will definitely try Eric's bench version...!
Eric triceps, Mike biceps. Those behind the head cables from the ground are huge stretches. Feels like a game changer for me
Love both! Dig this series with Dr Mike!
I’ve been doing the Dr Mike curls for a month now and they are killers. Such nice soarness for a few days.
I started doing them an they are crazy but I’ve noticed my tennis elbow started hurting have you noticed that?
@@hansoloburger2322 I struggle with a little tennis elbow and I found it ok if I keep the dumbbells fully supinated at all times

Yesss keep those coming :). About skullcrushers: why not use dumbells with a neutral grip to get pass the face tension at the bottom?
I think that is a great idea but maybe anatomy? At their size it is probably hard to maintain elbow discipline without the ez bar.
Going to try either flat or decline drag curls. Maybe better still, do them as Dr. Mike prescribes ( see what i did there ) and at fail, finish with drags! Ought to be pleasant. 😊

Erick's exercises are unbelievably impractical to set up
Even at a home gym w rogue pulley attachments im not sure I could set them up cause cable length
But I for real have the wheels turning to test

U can actively disengage them by trying to activate ur rear delts. Ur most likely actively pulling them up
