    Just an FYI for those interested in Ben Moody's guitar tone on the Fallen EP, this is from MixOnline:
    "The guitars for Fallen were cut at Mad Dog Studios, also in Burbank. Moody says that Baumgardner lent him gear, including his Les Paul and Gibson SG guitars, Marshall and Mesa/Boogie heads, and an old Mesa/Boogie cabinet. “It was an old cabinet that was tried-and-true on rock records,” says Moody. “It was a no-brainer to use it. I know it was used on Papa Roach and, I think, Staind. The heads were just the JCM 800, which was all souped up and modified, [and] a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Trem-o-Verb.
    For the first time in his producing career, Fortman recorded the guitars through two different amps: one side being Marshall and the other Mesa/Boogie. “I doubted it forever,” he confesses, “and then I decided during the Evanescence recording that I would actually A-B it and see if there was really that much of a difference.” He recorded the Marshall amp for both left and right sides, EQ'ing it to sound heavier than usual. “Then I A-B'd it by using a Mesa on the left side. The differences tonally and with the different frequencies in the two different amps really do create a larger stereo feel. It was amazing to hear.” The producer recorded the guitars with two Shure 57s, running them through Neve 1081 preamps straight to Pro Tools."

    She's playing the acoustic version with distortion. It sounds likda odd to me but that's just cause the song is actually all power chords and barre's. Still cool though. And I believe its supposed to be in drop D its a bit too bright in standard

    • @BradleyAnderson513
      @BradleyAnderson513 10 лет назад

      This song is definitely in standard tuning. The original guitar part was mixed in stereo with two different brand amps, and that's probably why this version is sounding a bit odd to you. Check out my other comment where I copied MixOnline's article about how they got the guitar tone on the EP.

    The intro is wrong (I dont mean to be mean) the tuning for this song is in drop C. In the beginning the 6th is open and the 2nd fret on the 5th. And the end of the first part with the open, and second frets, it goes on the fret board 0 0 on the 6th then 2 on the 4th, then when it goes open 6th, and third 5th with same rhythm, then it goes 0 0 on 6th and 3 on 5th. That's all I can say because I watched the video up to there. I just wanted to inform you ok. So I hope you have a great rest of the

    Do you have any videos on how to play each note and how to read them on sheet music on the electric guitar? If not, can you make one? I am getting an electric guitar soon and I want to do some "pre-learning". I just want to know what strings you hit at what times and what sounds each make and how to get a clean sound. I have tried looking at other videos but they tend to skip around what I want to know...lol:) Thanks!

    I always thought their guitars were tuned down to D-standard, which this song would be 2nd fret (F#m) then A & E chords. Basically tuned down a whole step, then everything played 2 frets higher. But what do I know? I have no idea really of what tuning Evanescence used, but that's what it sounds like to my ears *shrug*

    • @jentrani
      @jentrani  8 лет назад

      +sopwithsnoopy you could be right. I used the official guitar tab from the song book as a reference for the tuning. Even though they always say it's accurate to the recording, it definitely could have mistakes.

    • @sopwithsnoopy8779
      @sopwithsnoopy8779 8 лет назад

      +jen trani Well, I went and watched a couple of live-in-concert videos of Evanescence doing this song. I've been wrong all this time, they DO play it in E-standard. There's just a certain heaviness to the song that always made me think the strings were de-tuned, and I do believe they downtune/use 7-strings on at least some of their other stuff. But yes, this is in E-standard, after watching them play it live. Now I gotta re-learn it :(
