"Stop that noise, I can't hear myself die!" the Dowager Countess had the best lines till her very last! But no new Downton movie will be the same without her! Love Maggie Smith!
Copy and paste I see lmao no one is original..... this is posted on the movie page 😂 exact copy and paste
Always the grand duchess Diva loved her
I'd like to think many people get to have theatric "final words" with loved ones and then peacefully give up the ghost but I really doubt more than one in a hundred is that fortunate.
Or... "You're upstaging me death scene! Stop it!"
@@bryana50cents16 perhaps they are the ones who posted it
This part made me cry ..because I really love Maggie Smith...in the part she plays in Downton Abbey as the Dowager countess of Grantham because she was a great part of the series 💙 thank God Maggie Smith is still with us....
Th Dowager Countess died…..thank heaven we still have dear Maggie.
Countess
Since Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) died I always get an heart attack when I read her name in the news
For me, The Dowager Countess was the biggest character in this great story.
I love her very very much.
Of all the actors/actresses I have seen Maggie Smith is the one I've always wanted to meet. Perhaps in the next life.
ME TOO DO WE HAVE ANY YIN COAL OR GRAVEL.... WHEN THEY WERE TRYING TO SAFE THE HOME IN THE 3RD SEASON.
We, the viewers, mourned along side of the other characters. Noone could have pulled that character off like Dame Maggie Smith!
I love the way they did it. Distract your attention away for a split second and then... she's gone. Actresses die on cue. Real people don't. That's why doing it this way felt more real.
@@Robert08010 I have heard testimonies of real life (and death)- someone pretty much "waiting" for the caregiver to leave the room for a moment; and when they returned from a quick errand - gone.
Her last words... "stop that noise, I can't hear myself die" were perfect. I cried because of the reality, one day soon beloved Maggie Smith will pass...
Too true. And I can't help but think of her and her friends, Judi Dench and Joan Plowright. The Dames. They are getting so frail. TSuch talent.

OMG Edith & Mary have definitely come a long way in their relationship... comforting & hugging each other when their beloved Granny passes away. Also adorable how Elsie calls Carson 'Charlie" instead of Charles
You know l just said the same thing to hubby.
Sometimes I think that's the way it should be. A little adversarial in the beginning, so that when the trials of life really start, they're always bringing you closer to each other and you find your love for each other is real.
Honestly they just needed to be apart to become close when needed. And Edith's marriage did that
Downton will never be the same without her. 😢😔😪
This is a very sad scene! Maggie Smith is wonderful and she made the Dowager character such an icon
My mom and I saw this film in theaters with some friends, and during this scene, I whispered to my mom, "She's gone to join Matthew and Sibyl," and my mom thought that was a very tender way to look at it.
One of the saddest moments of Downton Abbey. 😢
Seeing Mrs. Pattmore cry made me teary eyed. It was more than likely the Dowager that hired her, brought her into the Downtown family. 💕
I loved how we saw the servants who had been at Downton the longest grieving just as the family did!
I want just one episode with Andrew as Butler of Downton - Just one episode. As a final goodbye to this beautiful, divine, exquisite story
This is one of the saddest scenes in the DA series. We saw the end of a life that we learned to love.
We all know this day is coming, then we will live it ... ♥️🫂♥️🫂
To my way of thinking, best way to go. Surrounded by family and close friends.
And with no regrets.
@@Robert08010 Well, if you have no regrets, you haven't lived. IMO
Her last words ,she can't hear her self Die , Dowager character was a trip Maggie knew she play that role😂
It’s 2024 and it still hits in the heart
I agree with you totally!!😊😊❤❤
*I have genuinely loved this character more than some people I've met in real life* 😢
Art truly has the power to touch your soul.
This really made me cry even more now, since my own beloved grandmother passed away last December. 💔💔😭😭
Toutes mes condoléances
I know that pain and i give you my most sincere condolences. I lost mine when i was about 17 and i still think of her now in my 30s. if it is any consolation the pain gets replaced by memories and soon thinking of her will be less hurtful and will make you smile and remember her fondly.
I’m so very sorry for your loss 😢
So sorry for your loss.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. 💐
Wasn't it Wonderful From beginning to the End.THANKING The ACTORS And Crew who made the Series such A Joy to watch.. Kudos to All
How I miss this beautiful, elegant show. This clip had me blubbering all over again. ❤️
I agree with you as well.😊😊❤
The depth of pain and sadness in this scene is/was/will be too much for me to bear despite watching Downtown Abbey numerous times. I cry each and everytime at the loss of this eccentric character, and how we all shall deeply miss this great character. Downtown Abbey will never be the same without The Dowager Countess.
Carson's quote from King Lear, knowing her Ladyship so long. And of course he is consoling Marry
I so wanted The Dowager and Isobell to have a few last words. I loved their interaction all through the show.
Best last line ever. The Dowager always had the best lines.
Nooooo!! My favorite person in the whole series. A Legend.😱😱😱😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Absolutely amazing til the end ,amazing actress downton abby is my all time favorite ever ❤️
Maggie smith what a fantastic actress I love Downton Abbey all the cast are first class👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Please add the clip where Daisy speaks to Violet about William. It's the only time in the whole show they interact and it's a beautiful moment.
Her last words of kindness to everyone close to her! Got me 😢😢😢😢
No matter how many times I've watched it, I've cried.
It always amazes me that people in television series and movies have their families with them as they die. In reality that is so often not the case. Nurses in hospital will tell you that those who are dying often wait until they are alone even if family has just stepped out for a moment. Speaking personally, while I was in the same building, I never got to say goodbye to either parent or my sister. Imagine how heartbreaking it must be for those family members who live or are at a distance at this sad time. Kudos to Maggie and the writers for keeping this from being overly sentimental.
As a retired Hospice nurse, I can say that many people fear being undignified at the end of life-involuntary excretions, loss of beauty, signs of severe suffering. So they wait until they are alone, after everyone has said goodbye and stepped out of the room.
@@americaneclectic Thank you for supporting my point. Your explanation makes good sense. 👍
Fortunately, I was able to be alone with my sweet sweet Mom before she died. She was in a coma, but I sang a song I had written years before called, Mama, You’re the Arms (that carry me). I had a special time with her. Everyone had gone from the hospital-just for a bit. She passed away during that time…❤
It is apparently rare. But when my grandfather died, five of his six children were there - and one grandson (me) too. He and I had had a special connection for 38 years. Imagine how special he was to his children, who had known him into their fifties and sixties. No way any of us were going to abandon him that night.
@@Wilbtube I’m sorry you lost someone so dear to you. I don’t want you to think I meant any type of “abandonment”. In my father’s case, my mother had come to sit with me while the doctor attended to him. He died while the doctor was in the room. My mother died when nurses asked me to leave her room so that they could turn her. She had been in a coma for days and they needed to help prevent bedsores. When my sister died, I had been with her and comforting her and when she settled down, I crossed the hall to the family room but before I settled on the sofa, the nurse came to the door to announce that she had passed. In no case was I abandoning my family member.
MAGGIE SMITH IS A LEGEND ❤
One of the finest characters ever created for television, portrayed by one of the finest actresses ever. Oh, it's going to be a sad day when Dame Maggie really does leave us.
I was already "quite dewey eyed" earlier today, then you go and post this video.
I ugly cried watching this movie for the first time today. Witty to the last. Sassiest character ever.
My favorite line of hers was “What is a weekend?”
I have been retired for 12 years and often use that line with my husband even though he has never seen any episodes of Downton Abbey.
My favorite bit was the tiny stutter she tossed in "Wha- what is a weekend?" just to emphasize her bewilderment. Such a perfect touch.
Edith & Mary embracing made me sob...
Oh how I have enjoyed these wonderful actor's!
Thinking of any of them gone makes me cry. Bravo to all ❤
This is such a beautiful scene, I would have wanted Rosamund to be there at the Lady Grantham's deathbed as well.
I was sobbing in the cinema and then went to see the movie a second time in the same day and was sobbing again 🥹💙
Lovelovelove this series ...
I stopped watching during the first season but I’d catch snippets on RUclips of her and I’m getting teary eyed watching this..love Maggie Smith and I know I’m going to be weepy for days after she dies..
Such as a masterpiece of brilliant British episode ❤
On every level.
This moment was so sad and made me cry😢😢. She was an amazing character and love her storylines.❤❤❤ She will be missed in the last movie. 😢❤❤
Haven't seen it but crying so hard
My mother loved her. I miss her.
I only watched the first year of this series, I quit when they "killed" off Matthew Crowley. But this video made me cry.
Oh yea, more Downton!
The Dowager was my favorite character in the show. There was no better choice than Dame Maggie Smith.
The Dowager has left the building!
The loss of your mother is the hardest pain to live through
The soul of wit has passed us by.
I love the relationship between Carson and Mary. It goes beyond Lady and servant. He's become a surrogate father and confidante.
I was a bit surprised, when I saw this at the cinema, that Rosamund wasn't at her mother's bedside when she died, but of course she'd have had to come up from London by train so I guess it makes sense.
My the Dowager Countess be remembered for her moments helping people putting people in their place and always being there for us fans to enjoy may she be rest in peace
She was an AWSOME character. No movie would be the same without her in it
I would have liked to have heard a dying word to her dear friend Isobel
I want to see it again. I really don't remember Mary asking Carter to return.
They had their own one-on-one goodbye scene earlier in the film.
What a treasure. This was the only reason my television had been on in years, for the entire series. Thank you. Memorable entertainment,
Why wasn’t her daughter at her ending??? Big mistake by Downton!!
I can't wait for the new movie coming out!!! Yeah!!!
I cried all over again.. this is beautiful ❤
Death can be so ignoble. This is the way to go out. Surrounded by those we love and those who love us. Goodnight Lady Grantham. May you have one foot in heaven before the devil knows your gone!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing a beautiful TV and movie cast of actors!!!!😊😊❤❤😊❤
The scene where Isobel sits alone on the bench kills me every time. She and the Dowager Countess may have butt heads constantly, but they really were the best of friends.
That was heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔
My favourite character on downtown she certainly had the best lines
I should be so lucky KY to leave this world as she did It would bring a smile to my old wrinkled face. Bless you all. I enjoyed seeing her on screen.
Downton abby is en blijft altijd mijn grootste favoriet heb alles wel meerdere keren gezien
ik heb gisteren de laatste film gezien en gehuild bij de laatste van maggie smit zij was de beste uit de serie ik zal haar missen
😢 they had the countess leave as Grand as she is
Lovely death scene. I love how Mrs. Hughes comforts her husband and then it switches to the family and her maid starts crying and she tells her to be quiet and "I can barely hear myself die."
Downton Abbey won’t be the same without Violet…😢
Nor should it be. If it were then one would wonder what her contribution was.
‘The star has left the building…. ‘
If only one could choose to die that way. Surrounded by loved ones. Able to think and speak and joke with clarity. In ones own bed with no drama!
I need to be out the door in 30mins and my eyes are bloodshot and puffy 😭💙
Made me teary eyed 😢
Mary and Carson are so good together. The affection is as real the respect.
Deathbed scenes are always presented as dying last words and then it all quickly comes to an end. In reality the person always slips into a coma and the actual stopping of the heart occurs hours, if not days, later.
As far as I'm concerned, Downton Abbey is over.
Can hardly wait for the return of the Crawley family.
I sure liked her she was great on the show
I did like the show
I had no idea, I haven’t seen this one yet. ☹️
It's towards the end of Downton Abbey a New Era movie.
Um... "Spoiler Alert". Sorry.
Powerful ending
This was sad especially they didn't bring back Mary's husband for the funeral that didn't make any sense
Matthew Goode was unavailable due to the filming schedule conflicted with his filming The Offer.
@@eilrobichaud In the end I don't think it mattered. I didn't notice him missing until someone pointed it out.
I was hoping she said something about Cora fitting in and being the right choice for Robert and a great Lady Grantham.
I think, in a round about way, she did.
She did, but it was very British. She apologized to Cora for not believing that she would stay the course. She then confessed to having been wrong. That was her way of stating everything you could want. Then to banish the appearance of sentimentality, she teaed her about having to wait so long to hear her say it. Cora let her know that the message was received and appreciated.
Golly
bet Maggie is happy to be free ☺️😘
Love you Maggie Smith
thank thee 😌♥️🇨🇦
6:00 to 8:00 makes me cry
"Didn't she just."
Poor Isobel. She lost her most formidable adversary and her closest ally.
Maybe they could bring her back in some flashback sequences!
Well I must say that it wasn't like Sybill's passing.
Sybil’s passing was sooo sad. Mathew’s too. I discovered this show during Covid and binge watched it.
@@Beatrix7004 Yup
I know Rosamund was in the movie but I can’t remember why she wasn’t there when Violet died
I hadn't seen your comment when I made mine just now. I was thinking that I hadn't seen Rosamund at all and thought it peculiar. The only excuse they would have for her not being at her mother's bedside is that it would have taken hours to get there by train from London.
Maybe she just didn’t get there in time.
Ok..this is my second time seeing this .. where can I watch it
They keep asking for likes on Facebook about a season 7. It wouldn't be right without the countess..
Oh, I dunno. Getting to watch more of Mary turning into the countess.... That would suit me.
NOOOOO!!!
I love downton so much but i wonder really how they’re gonna top the end of a new era.
J ai adoré ce superbe film. Mais je n est pas vue celui là pourquoi ?
I can’t believe such a major plot line was released before the movie, and near 10 minutes.
This is the movie? The final 3rd?
Is series 7 real or rumor?
It’s the second one
The movie has been out for a while
@@jumpingdinosaur No way!!! Where have I been? Apparently under a rock 😂😂 Well I have weekend plans to watch this now…
So I just googled, a new era… I meant to watch when it came onto streaming. I seemed to have forgotten lol I did not know this happened I just spoiled it for myself!
@@alexlewis8143 I realized I forgot I didnt see this as i was “waiting” and waited so long I forgot!
It's a shame Rosamund wasn't there so the whole family could say goodbye.
