In my honest opinion, Edith and Bertie’s relationship was the best one from the later seasons. They have such amazing chemistry together.
She had that with Michael but for some reason he was written out. He was a man's man and smitten with Edith. In the movie she states she misses her life and that was the one Michael gave her.
Totally agree. He is such a whole genuine person. She cannot believe it.
I really do just love seeing these two together.
Agreed! She finally got her happy day!
Bertie and Edith are wonderful but my favourite romantic interest is Charles Blake for Mary.
Such a satisfying romance. Seeing Edith come into her own, not to mention ending up outranking everyone in her family, with a worthy man who really loved her. What a life!
I always felt so sad for Edith! No matter what she did it's like no one ever saw her as good enough or valuable. But then she met Bertie. I love that she outranks her family in the end. She deserved to.
Que excepcionalmente perversa lady Mary,su envidia hacia su hermana es monstruosa.Menos mal que no consiguió ahuyentar a Pelham y ahora tiene un maravilloso esposo y

Team Edith from the start.
My parents joke that their three daughters are a lot like Mary, Edith and Sybil. Especial my sisters being Mary and Edith.
The scene where Bertie's mother expresses admiration and appreciation for Edith's honest admission about Marigold is crucial.
When is it?
I agree. The compiler of this video clip left so many other good scenes out.
"I haven't much to offer." "You have a great deal to offer..." Those two lines are just beautiful. Obviously he means status and money, but she's had that life, its what she's always known and it hasn't done her any good. What she wants is someone kind, and smart, and loving, and Bertie has that in spades and that's what she admires in him, she could care less about money and such.
Bertie is a little worm.

Well! She's absolutely right. Money DOESN'T buy health OR happiness for that matter, and happiness and Love is something Edith has never had in her life.
Edith was the middle child, overshadowed by the spoiled Mary and sweet Sybil. She wasn’t always kindly treated by most of the family and Mary was always at her worst in her relationship with Edith. The wonderful thing was how Edith found a way to rise above it all. She blossomed into a confident, beautiful woman who found love with Bertie a kind and good man and was able to keep her adored daughter, Marigold and retain the link with her first true love. It was wonderful that Bertie turned out to be a higher status than any of Mary’s men. Edith got the happy end she deserved, and let’s hope that Mary learned a lsson
Quite possibly the best character development we saw on the show. Early on, Edith lashed out at being the overlooked middle child - it made her bitter and vindictive. But she found purpose in different ways over the course of the series, independent of her family and their opinion of her, and it brought out the good in her. Even when Edith fell on bad luck (and she certainly did), she didn't let herself slide back into her earlier bitterness. And it all paid off beautifully in the end.
I thought it was such a shame that they took her from being a talented independent business woman back to being no more than a wife
100% correct
Don't feel too bad for Mary. She gets the family estate while her son, the heir and future Lord Grantham, comes of age.
When Harry Hadden-Paton says " I have done a very bad job" the entire personality of the character reveals itself.... congratulation to a young actor for making theater in such incredible way.
Fully agree - Harry Hadden-Paton - what an incredible talented actor - I have had tears in my eyes watching this scene
The way his voice almost breaks. 😢
I love how strong Edith became in the series.
@@so62539 and she was always the pathetic sister and Mary did everything she could to keep her down. I love how Edith got everything she deserved in life.
I've always thought Bertie & Molesley were the two most likeable characters. Easy to root for, kind, and genuine in all they do.
I agree, but add Tom to the list.
@@debra-vs Very true, him as well.
I will always look at Mary differently for what she did to Edith at that table. Despite what she and Edith had gone through together, that was pure evil for the sake of being evil and I’ll never look at her the same again. I never thought she was perfect but goddamn that was cold.
Actually that was the second time Mary did sth like that. First with Anthony Strallan before the war at the garden party. Pure viciousness.
Don’t forget … Edith wrote to the a Turkish Ambassador about Mary’s affair with Pamuk and how he ended up dead in her bed!
I can’t believe Mary didn’t mention this to Cora!
This probably made Mary even worse towards Edith.
Oh also … Edith was egging her on because the race car driver had left and Mary looked dismayed about it.
Tom even told Edith to stop.
Nice to see Edith finally say what see thinks...
@@SummerRain368Served Mary right. She earned it.
The moment at the end when Edith realized that Bertie and his mother were both good with the marriage and didn’t take the opportunity at the part of the service to object, and she smiles, was so perfect for her character. She probably was so traumatized from years and years of being picked last so to speak or not at all, that right up until the moment they’re confirmed as man and wife, she might have had a moment of worry.
So happy for her!

Missed the bit when Bertie became a Marquis & Mary realised Edith would out rank her. Lol!! 🤣🤣
LOOOOL
Which season was that?

Yes, 😁😂😅 I saw that, and boy did it put Mary's nose out of joint. I loved it.
The BEST bit!!
You left out the part when Lady Edith goes to Bertie's mother and tells her the truth about Marigold. That scene represents the very essence of Lady Edith. How despite how much she Loves Bertie, she's not prepared to live the rest of her life in a perpetual lie with her future Mother-in-law.
I’ve been trying to find that clip - but it’s nowhere
@@dionnevoller2903 Besides the DVDs or on Netflix, I can't find it anywhere either. Maybe they'll add it to this video later on down the road.
I persnally thought she was foolish to do this But it was added drama
I was very surprised too. It’s one of my favorite scenes. After all Edith was put through in the early seasons, it was so wonderful to see how her and Bertie’s story ended. ❤️
Because as Violet likes to say "does it get lonely atop the moral high ground" I think Edith braving her mother in law is because she had no choice between mother in law and momma's boy.
I love how Tom became such a part of the family :) thanks for putting this up! Love Bertie and Edith, they have such a communicable, genuine and pleasant connection.
Edith is a horrid creature with no redeeming features. Bertie is goofy nothing-burger who gives rise to the tales of "idiots with titles." Julian Fellowes must invent awful characters to make himself feel superior. He wants the losers to win. They deserve each other.
It was like he was channeling Sybil in that scene…that is exactly what she would have said, and how she would have said it (I imagine it was done on purpose…fantastic acting and writing!)
I don't know if everyone notices that when Bertie is with her and her family and Mary does or says something nasty about her, he is shocked and uncomfortable, like, how does this family let this happens. I love that!
The look on Bertie's face when he says, "I've been doing a bad job," (of living without Edith) is just priceless. He's nearly in tears. He's had time to think about it and he KNOWS she's the one for him. It's a wonderful scene.
So agree!!!
So well acted
Good acting indeed
Yes! I've replayed just that bit many times ❤
Yes he was a top actor and when he said goodbye when they had to break ties - just great.
These are all great scenes for their arc but my favorite Edith and Bertie scene is when he offers his help in whatever way he can be of aid when Edith is up against a deadline with the magazine and has to break their date. As a workaholic myself, that just totally melts me. Every time it's on I yell at the screen, "Marry this man!"
I agree completely. From the very beginning, Bernie shows great character. He is quite the gentleman and has a very genuine heart. Even after he inherits the title, he is still the same humble man. ❤
I'm so glad she heard you and followed your advice.😉😁
I liked that part too
Loved Edith's outfits and accessories in the latter series. Absolutely stunning.
You left out when Edith and Bertie first met. When the family went up to Brancaster Castle for Grouse shooting after Rose and Atticus returned from their honeymoon. It was the start of something wonderful. Let's not forget when he met Edith again in London and helped her magazine get out the latest edition after she fired her editor.
I do love both those scenes, too! That visit to Brancaster was also when Mary met Henry.
I loved this couple! Edith’s dresses were so perfect for her. Kudos to whoever dresses her!
Love her wardrobe!
@@fayesouthall6604 I wonder what happens to all those amazing clothes once the show has finished. Can they be reused for any other series or are they just archived away somehow?
I love the details Julian and Bruce pay attention to. The perfect example of that is the fact Bertie is the only obe wearing a wrist watch with every outfit. He is a practical man with a profession. Time is of importance to him therefore. He doesn’t have an abundance of it like the others.
The restaurant scene with Edith and Bertie is so incredible!!. Brings a tear to my eye every time! Watching these two actors perform that scene wows me with how talented they both are. The subtle looks of the eyes, the quiver of the lip, the way they deliver the lines so emotionally. Wow, what amazing talent!
And despite the hatred between the two sisters, it was Mary, woh made this restaurant scene happen.
The first time I saw this scene 🎬 I teared up. 🥲 It was beautiful. I was so happy for them. 🎉
This was by far thee most romantic love story of the lot.
Yes along with Rose and Atticus!
Absolutely brilliant acting from all parties. The actors portraying Bertie Pelham and Lady Edith Crawley as well as the supporting cast do such a superb job of their roles. They really brought their characters to life.
My favourite couple ! They’re so sweet. Their love is so pure 🥺 finally Edith got the ending she deserved !
Edith's growth was the most beautiful on this show. I truly enjoyed seeing the woman she became after all those obstacles were thrown at her...well done Downton Abbey.
Lady Edith and Bertie, oh my goodness. I love these 2 to bits. So lucky to have everything in one package.
I was always Team Lady Sybil. When she died I was Team Lady Edith. I'm glad Marry's bile & viciousness doesn't screw this up.
This is the best Match in the Show, Mary was just a taker so her relationships were 1 sided. Edith was equally a giver & a reluctant taker, her relationships are equal, full, complete, loving. I love these two.
So very true! They should have killed off Lady Mary until Lady Sybil!
The opening scene - Lady Edith looks simply elegant.
It's my favourite really, spot on!
Penniless or wealthy, he's such a gentleman and handsome too. Their chemistry is fantastic.
Hard agree
“I certainly am”, plus the facial expression. I just love how honest and yet perfectly self-composed Rosamubd is.
Bertie was such a sweet, sensitive, kind man. He softened Lady Edith's rough edges.
Absolutely right
Ediths wedding dress was absolutely gorgeous
Edith really could have possibly caused alot of damage and scandal to her family when she wrote to the Turkish embassy about Mary and Pamuk. But even then, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Edith when Mary opened up her big mouth about Marigold.
At lease Edith still got her man in the end anyway. 😂👍
Not to say Edith was driven to write to the Turkish embassy but I watched closely to see why she could have done this when she was such a stately lady, literally sounding like the Queen. I then saw that Mary had been beyond brutal to her. Edith overheard Mary talking nastily about her to their mother and saying that Edith was going to need all the help she can get as she is a plain Jane. Not in so many words but she implied. Her parents also neglected her because they thought she was not a looker. She simply felt alone.
@@the8thchurch461 yeah but ruining your family and yourself by association isn’t the best thing to do when your sister is mean to you.
@@MsPandachen I see what you mean but she wasn't that old/mature enough to think that far ahead. She just thought about the immediate hurt to Mary and squaring up. She did say she felt like an outsider in the family. She was neglected and even her mother said she won't find love and would be the one to look after them in old age. Robert was appalled. I totally see where she was coming from. She didn't get the support the prettier sisters got.
@@MsPandachen Of course it isn't. But she lashed out in response to Mary's constant, constant chipping away at her self-esteem and getting absolutely no support from her family.
Everyone forgets it was Thomas who passed on the story and made it London gossip.
I always admired Edith's vulnerability and gentile nature especially when she was in love or with people that showed her love. Her eyes glisten, and her voice would become soft and gentle. As per Mery..that's a whole another story 😒
Edith always made me swoon since season 1 back in 2010. When she finally got with Bertie my heart was full for her.
She has always had it hard Lady Edith and i have always really liked her role. In the end, she is the one that out ranked her family, she deserved to have a happy ending.
Edith had matured and I still think she grew and changed the most~
I'm so glad Edith and Bertie got their happy ending.
I am so happy to see this clip! I'm in the throws of watching the whole series, currently season 5.
Edith is such a sweet woman, so much more heart than her sister Mary. After all the heartache she went through I'm overjoyed to see her find true 💕
Lady Edith is my Favorite character. She is a Good person
that always believed in L❤ve, but
it never turned out right for her. I
was So Happy when she FINALLY got a Love that worked, Happiness & and the bonus of a Elevated status. Bernie is the perfect man for her & he even developed the Cool factor in the movie. The actress, that plays Marigold was the perfect choice, she had the vulnerability that Lady

the writing was Great with ALL of
the characters having riveting storylines. I purchased the
whole 6 seasons & have seen
all six seasons, 3 times. I saw the movie, brought the dvd & I am Looking forward to seeing the second movie.
I love Edith and Bertie!
These two where perfect for each other
That Nanny is a 365°x100 difference than that of the former Nanny West.
Finally Edith found someone. And Bertie can do better. When he learnt about Edith’s deception he didn’t say any harsh words- Cora probably would use “damaged goods”- all he said was “you haven’t been fair to me”. He has a noble soul.
He can never forget that she welcomed his advances to her when he was a "penniless land agent" and she was a well-off publisher, as well as an earl's daughter, and without a trace of condescension on her part. She'd all but agreed to marry him long before they knew he'd inherit his cousin's title and estate.
Since then, no doubt, women who wouldn't give him the time of day before are throwing themselves at him.
What he was looking for was honesty from her. Which one could say made him rather loving and a bit ahead of his time. What he received was dishonesty and insecurity.
@@steveparadis2978 It was mentioned at one stage that there was a shortage of available men after the war. Society was changing. Women were finding jobs and, as can be seen in the course of Downton Abbey, the aristocracy could no longer afford their properties.
@@laerwen Life was so unfair for women in those days. Men, especially the gentry, could have their mistresses and a dozen children out fo wedlock, and it was normal. Wild oats and so on.
Love her wedding dress...I loved her first one too..
the clothes responsible of the series did an amazing job with all of Edith's wardrobe, incl both her wedding dresses :)
I would wear most of that stuff nowadays without a problem :)
Simply Stunning
Of all the characters that deserved a happy ending, it was most definitely Lady Edith Crawley ❤️
They left out the bridal processional where Edith walks down the aisle to Handel's "Queen of Sheba", a perfect tune to start her life off as a Marchioness, outranking the whole lot of them.
The serie's perfection continues throughout this clip as well... Perfection... Thank you for posting and everyone else for all the thoughtful comments supporting these efforts.
Edith kinda turned into the coolest one
About time we saw more of this story! Thank you!
Love their story and can't WAIT until the 2nd movie!!!
My sister and I saw it yesterday, and it does not disappoint. We loved it!
Thank you for sharing these videos. Really love watching them again.
edith had the best wardrobe
I love Edith and Bertie.
This video would have been more poignant, if it had included how they'd met at the Sinderby shoot and subsequent chance meeting in London where Bertie was browsing a book.
The crack in his voice when he said "I've done a very bad job" in referencing living on his own without Edith. 😭😭😭
I love how Bertie is just like a lovestruck teenager
I always fancied Edith the most out of all the women in this show x
Edith is so beautiful inside and out, and her earnest, expressive face looks like a vulnerable but courageous Disney heroine.
Finally! You put their story together!
Later seasons Edith is so stylish. I love it
Beautiful Edith. What a wonderful character! Utterly loathesome at first then turned into a total knockout. I loved her. 🥰
This is brilliant but they should've also included the clip where they first met: when they went shooting while staying over at Lord Sinderby's.
Edith, I love her soft calm nature… 🌹
Edith and Bertie’s romance was so sweet and lovely to watch, just two people who slowly fell for each other.
Much better than any of Mary’s ‘romances’ after Matthew died where she strung men along and looked at the man’s title and bank account before paying him any attention and fully expected him to worship the ground she walked on. At the least the writer had her end up with a car mechanic who didn’t allow her to bully him 😂
In reality, back then, an aristocratic woman would NEVER have ended up with a car mechanic.
@@kimberlytyrcha5930 There are several times when a character mentions that everything changed after the war. Also, it was mentioned that there was a shortage of men - so many having died or been injured during the war, that women couldn't expect the same amount of aristocratic marriages.
@@monique8641 ...Even with a shortage of men, an aristocratic woman STILL never would have married a car mechanic. A car mechanic could NEVER afford to keep her in the lifestyle she was used to. He also would NEVER have been accepted by HER social set and friends so, sorry, but it wouldn't have happened. She may not have made an aristocratic marriage but she would have married a lawyer, doctor or even an officer in the military, but NOT a car mechanic.
I do hate the part where Edith says to her new mother-in-law, "I'll try not to disappoint you". Can't we let Lady Edith have SOME personal growth and confidence!? Geeeeez. But other than that this is my favorite romance in the series and it's beautifully done!
Edith had massive personal growth and confidence, but still a few insecurities. People are complicated.
@@digital_gravity I know, I know, but even so...
This my absolute favourite romance from Downton. I am blubbering. ❤️❤️

So happy for Edith.
I would have done anything for Bertie's mother to say "Such fun !"

Edith nature passion and birdies subtleties are great attributes in their relationships, also Birdies younger and better looking than edith's previous mates, it gives true love a boost and something worth waiting for
Bertie is so adorably awkward…like Edith…makes them both endearing. I didn’t care for Edith or Mary in the first two seasons, it’s not fun to watch two sisters one-up each other on awful things to do, even though I know it happens.
So wonderful that poor Edith finally found happiness after so much heartache. The icing on the cake is that she outranks Mary.
Mary!!! "You are a b"
That was the best line
I Saw that Program and I say good luck to both Bertie and Edith as Progresed from being a Rich Wall flower to being a Strong like Business Woman and Bertie is her Rock and a true friend who later Became her Husband and they are well suited and I also admire Berti for taking on Marigold
My favorite scene is when Lord G says “what a turn up” “a copper bottom Marquess”
I appreciate the way Bertie refused to add to Edith’s humiliation after Mary outed her. It was always reciprocal venom between those two 2️⃣. Tom tried to stop 🛑 it but it was a lost 😞 cause.
I was soooooo mad at Mary that I could barely focus on their goodbye scene outside Downton!
I miss Michael but I'm glad she found happiness.
A 47 year old man and I cried like a beeettcchhh , they’re so beautiful 😍
Isnt it wonderful how Edith and Bertie met when Edith had the magazine and Bertie had practically nothing. Edith's hesitancy wasnt Berties limited prospects but rather the secret of her illegitimate child (but Mary saw it as Edith wasnt interested until Bertie came into wealth and position). In that day and time when women were so stigmatized by illegitimate children, it would be hard to know who to trust...had she confessed and Bertie called off the engagement then she would be entirely at the mercy of Bertie keeping her secret but on the other had if she kept it secret then it would be a permanent wedge between them in their marriage. However, its is not to say that all is doom and gloom. Illegitimate children were not unheard of in those days and there were many men who would still marry a women knowing that by marriage and adoption all stigma would be lifted and cleansed. It would be unjust to blame a child for their birth and it was actually quite common for a couple to have sexual relations after their engagement was announced...knowing confidently that the marriage would follow. The nice thing about the upper classes is that there was great energy put into appearances so if the child was adopted and the couple were married...it would be considered rude and unseemly to pass judgement or gossip. Furthermore, Edith should have been grateful in a manner of speaking because Mary's fate was much more planned and constricted by expectation which was probably why she was so harsh. Edith instead of being jealous (sibling rivalry) grew up when she realized that Mary's burden was Edith and Sybils freedom.
Edith’s behaviour towards the Drew’s was selfish and disgusting. Mrs Drew loved Marigold . Edith owes an apology and monies to the Drew family .
Mary being a queen B again telling Bertie about Merigold
We need a spinoff with them in the lead!
Please no. There are too many American sitcoms where they have done a spinoff and it's been a disaster. I believe any spinoffs would detract and likely fail. I always think it's better for the audience to wonder how their lives panned out.
Their wedding scene made me cry, so happy for Edith’s ending
That was so nice to watch.
Of all the Crawley's I like Edith the most.
If that were my wedding lady Mary would’ve been asked not to attend. I’ve always loved lady Mary as my favourite character. But the gentleness of Edith, and her true English charm, one my heart. Isn’t it funny we get so wrapped up in this stuff.
I've just watched on TV tonight ,the episode where Mary blurts out at breakfast to Bertie about marigold . I don't think I've hated her so much as I did then lol😂. So glad to see it all worked out for he and and the lovely Lady Edith ❤❤
I still get butterflies in my tummy when I see Bertie and Edith kiss for the first time. 🥰😍
I was sooo happy Mary ended up on the lesser ladder of social structure than Edith! Her face when she found out who Bertie would become. pmsl
Mary was such a dreadful sister! 🙄
7:18 O cara mostrou claramente no rosto toda tristeza e até desespero do personagem em viver sem Edith; um ator de primeira categoria.
Bertie is such a mama's boy
The one part I really didn't like about this story was that they got back together because of Mary. I hate that bit. They should have come together on their own, somehow. Mary ruined Edith's life deliberately and she didn't deserve the chance to redeem herself by getting them to patch up.
Don’t forget that Edith tried to ruin Mary’s life by writing the letter about Pamuk to the embassy. Who would do that to their own sister and risk their family’s reputation? Edith can be a vicious as Mary but many people shrugged that off but I think that was horrible and unforgivable.
Edith found a winner, for sure.
Still an awesome scene at the lunch. One last row between Mary and Edith.
The acting by everyone was so on point.
Absolutely love Edith and Bertie 💞❤️💕
I really hope Edith kept Gregson's newspaper company for Marigold. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞💕🤞🤞💕🤞🤞💕🤞
Really want Bertie and Edith to have a child together 🤞💕🤞💕🤞💕🤞💕🤞
in the 1st Downton movie, Edith implies she didn't keep the magazine... :( she told Bertie she used to have a job she loved, but not anymore... and she also told him she might be pregnant, so let's see if that baby shows up in the 2nd movie :)
