I love the details Julian and Bruce pay attention to. The perfect example of that is the fact Bertie is the only obe wearing a wrist watch with every outfit. He is a practical man with a profession. Time is of importance to him therefore. He doesn’t have an abundance of it like the others.
9:35 Edith’s tiny pause before she turns to the front shatters my heart every time I see it. She needs a moment to take in her happiness…. It’s such a beautiful detail.
So happy someone finally dropped this, I've been looking for Bertie meeting Edith at the restaurant for years now & could find it nowhere on RUclips - thank you so much for releasing this.
Absolutely brilliant acting from all parties. The actors portraying Bertie Pelham and Lady Edith Crawley as well as the supporting cast do such a superb job of their roles. They really brought their characters to life.
She had two wedding dresses....you are forgetting the first wedding when the groom muttered something about not being able to and rushed out of the church!
I know it's fiction, but it certainly was nice seeing Lady Edith get married after all the troubles she went through. And in the end, she outranked the whole family, too. Laura Carmichael is such a pretty lady, too.😍😍😍😍😍
First of all, Edith wrote to the Turkish Ambassador and ratted out her sister (who had done nothing wrong). Edith stuck her nose in a matter that had nothing to do with her. By doing so, Edith hurt her father, her mother, her grandmother and her sister (all because she was jealous of her beautiful sister, Mary). Then Edith tried to start an affair with a MARRIED farmer, who is a tenant on Crawley land. His wife catches Edith and FIRES her from their operation by writing to her father, Lord Grantham. (Edith was angry but forgot about the nasty letter she wrote just to hurt Mary.) Edith picks up a man and has s*x out of wedlock and becomes pregnant and forces her aunt to lie for her. She then breaks her promise to her aunt and grandmother. She then forces the neighbor to lie for her and causes trouble in his marriage by her aggressive behavior. Edith insists that an older family friend marry her. She will NOT take "no" for an answer, so he is forced to abandon her at the altar just to get rid of her. If you think that type of behavior is "kind, principled, strong and sincere" you need a dictionary.
@@cjosborne9430 The letter Edith wrote to the Turkish embassy a decade prior is in no way a justification for how lady Mary treated her for six seasons, constantly attacking her and damaging her self esteem, and sabotaging on more than one occasion her chance to get married. Remember, Mary hated and bullied Edith way before that letter. Plus, why blame Edith for bringing disrepute to the family through the famous letter instead of blaming the actual person (Mary) who brought disrepute to her family by entertaining (f*cking) the Turkish man in her bed? Also, servants were already talking anyway, and it was a matter of time before the story would have gotten out. Edith had reasons behind her actions toward Mary and has had a marvelous character arc. At her core, Edith, if perhaps occasionally snobbish, is nevertheless good and decent, unlike her evil sister. Finally, Edith was a modern woman ahead of her time (career ambitions, child and romance out of wedlock, learning how to drive a car, etc.), and that unmistakably ruffled some feathers, but l don't find it wrong. And Edith's strength is evidenced by her surviving the constant bullying she suffered from Mary, Cora and others her entire life. So, her triumph, at the end, was delicious.

@@edwardfitzgerald3877 when Mr. Carson was thought to be having a heart attack, Edith's response was "but what about my dress?!" That was the least kind response anyone could possibly have, and it wasn't the only incident proving how self-absorbed she could be. Yeah she was bullied and treated unfairly by her sister and even sometimes her mother, but that doesn't give her a free ticket to be called kind despite her actions.
You left out when Edith and Bertie first met. When the family went up to Brancaster Castle for Grouse shooting after Rose and Atticus returned from their honeymoon. It was the start of something wonderful. Let's not forget when he met Edith again in London and helped her magazine get out the latest edition after she fired her editor.
I love how after 2 disastrous relationships, Edith gets to live a life like a princess! And Mary ends up with a very nice, but penniless, husband. Life is actually fair sometimes!! 😉
Like the others pointed out, Henry isn’t penniless. He might not have the estate and bankroll of Mary, but he’s about as “penniless” as Mathew was the moments before he became the heir. Matthew was a very successful lawyer who could afford a live-in maid and cook, and a house big enough to have spare rooms for them. Henry is known well enough to have been invited to the Sinderby’s party at Bertie’s cousin’s estate that they rented for the occasion. Lord Sinderby with his “moral high ground” attitude would have not associated with a grubby race car driver if there wasn’t some sort of prestige behind him. Also the snobby butler kept snubbing Tom but didn’t ever snub Henry, meaning Henry had a bit of respect to his name.

I was always Team Lady Sybil. When she died I was Team Lady Edith. I'm glad Marry's bile & viciousness doesn't screw this up. I am so happy to see this clip! I'm in the throws of watching the whole series, currently season 5. Edith is such a sweet woman, so much more heart than her sister Mary. After all the heartache she went through I'm overjoyed to see her find true 💕
Edith really could have possibly caused alot of damage and scandal to her family when she wrote to the Turkish embassy about Mary and Pamuk. But even then, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Edith when Mary opened up her big mouth about Marigold. At lease Edith still got her man in the end anyway. 😂👍
Not to say Edith was driven to write to the Turkish embassy but I watched closely to see why she could have done this when she was such a stately lady, literally sounding like the Queen. I then saw that Mary had been beyond brutal to her. Edith overheard Mary talking nastily about her to their mother and saying that Edith was going to need all the help she can get as she is a plain Jane. Not in so many words but she implied. Her parents also neglected her because they thought she was not a looker. She simply felt alone.
@@MsPandachen I see what you mean but she wasn't that old/mature enough to think that far ahead. She just thought about the immediate hurt to Mary and squaring up. She did say she felt like an outsider in the family. She was neglected and even her mother said she won't find love and would be the one to look after them in old age. Robert was appalled. I totally see where she was coming from. She didn't get the support the prettier sisters got.

The first time I saw this scene 🎬 I teared up. 🥲 It was beautiful. I was so happy for them. 🎉
Loved Edith's outfits and accessories in the latter series. Absolutely stunning.
Honestly, I was so happy that I burst in tears when I saw Lady Edith finally gets happiness!
I don't know if everyone notices that when Bertie is with her and her family and Mary does or says something nasty about her, he is shocked and uncomfortable, like, how does this family let this happens. I love that!
I loved this couple! Edith’s dresses were so perfect for her. Kudos to whoever dresses her!
Love her wardrobe!
@@fayesouthall6604 I wonder what happens to all those amazing clothes once the show has finished. Can they be reused for any other series or are they just archived away somehow?
@@Rosemary-vf5eisome get reused, placed in an exhibition or auctioned off like the costumes from Game of thrones in recent years
Edith's growth was the most beautiful on this show. I truly enjoyed seeing the woman she became after all those obstacles were thrown at her...well done Downton Abbey.
Love Lady Edith and Bertie. He was so sweet. Great couple. Bring Downton back please? I miss them. This series is just the best.
One of the best couples in the show! I ADORE these two.
This was by far thee most romantic love story of the lot.
Yes along with Rose and Atticus!
The dinner scene (6:08). It is one of my favorite scenes. Harry Hadden-Paton heartfelt acting moved me to tears! He should have won an award for his performance!
Agreed
These are all great scenes for their arc but my favorite Edith and Bertie scene is when he offers his help in whatever way he can be of aid when Edith is up against a deadline with the magazine and has to break their date. As a workaholic myself, that just totally melts me. Every time it's on I yell at the screen, "Marry this man!"
I agree completely. From the very beginning, Bernie shows great character. He is quite the gentleman and has a very genuine heart. Even after he inherits the title, he is still the same humble man. ❤
I'm so glad she heard you and followed your advice.😉😁
I liked that part too
I love the details Julian and Bruce pay attention to.
Quite frankly, one of the best scenes of any season! So moving!
Me too!!!
I seriously wish this series was still ongoing. I love it so much
Absolutely brilliant acting from all parties. The actors portraying Bertie Pelham and Lady Edith Crawley as well as the supporting cast do such a superb job of their roles. They really brought their characters to life.
So happy for Edith.
i personally think edith had the best wedding dress of them all, it just suited her so well
She had two wedding dresses....you are forgetting the first wedding when the groom muttered something about not being able to and rushed out of the church!
Agree! I didn’t care for her first wedding dress, the second one was gorgeous!
I loved her second wedding dress. I loved the lace around the top.
Their relationship was one of the few things the later seasons got right.
Could happily watch the whole season again.❤
I know it's fiction, but it certainly was nice seeing Lady Edith get married after all the troubles she went through. And in the end, she outranked the whole family, too. Laura Carmichael is such a pretty lady, too.😍😍😍😍😍
Lady Edith is my favorite character from Downton Abbey. She is kind, principled, strong and sincere. I rooted for her from Day 1.
She was the first to learn how to drive, she became a journalist and had the most beautiful wedding dress I've ever seen in the movies.
(Edith was angry but forgot about the nasty letter she wrote just to hurt Mary.)
Edith picks up a man and has s*x out of wedlock and becomes pregnant and forces her aunt to lie for her.
@@cjosborne9430 I also agreeI didn’t like what she did the Drew’s. Robert should of given them mone to rebuild. You give a child to someone and take the child away . That is simply wrong.
Lady Edith and Bertie, oh my goodness. I love these 2 to bits. So lucky to have everything in one package.
My favourite couple ! They’re so sweet. Their love is so pure 🥺 finally Edith got the ending she deserved !
I do love both those scenes, too! That visit to Brancaster was also when Mary met Henry.
Ediths wedding dress was absolutely gorgeous
“I certainly am”, plus the facial expression. I just love how honest and yet perfectly self-composed Rosamubd is.
I love how after 2 disastrous relationships, Edith gets to live a life like a princess! And Mary ends up with a very nice, but penniless, husband. Life is actually fair sometimes!! 😉
Mary's lifestyle is still very fine, and Henry isn't penniless. He's doing well in the automobile business and not afraid to work for his living.
Wouldn't call Henry is penniless
@@rowanaforrest9792 Just goes to show that Not every heiress NEEDS to marry an heir.
@@staciecarrel4492 That's true.
I love that Edith finally got to be happy , she is one of my favorites I can relate to her
I loved Bertie character, nice, decent also smart..and his accent it's very posh,,i loved it!
Perfect casting for Bertie,, Harry Hadden-patton ❤️
Ooh God I loved british actors..
I don't like British actors 🤷. I liked a few
I am so incredibly happy for the both of them. In spite of all the trials and tribulations and the innumerable number of times her heart was broken, Julian Fellowes makes themagic happen by joining these two together who deserve each other so much. I just love Bertie; such a gentleman and so deserving of a wonderful wife who matches up with him. I love you, Bertie.
I always fancied Edith the most out of all the women in this show x
The opening scene - Lady Edith looks simply elegant.
It's my favourite really, spot on!
7:18 the delivery of that line is pure gold
I so liked this story line, and both actors. Harry Hadden Patton was wonderful as Martin Charteris in The Crown as well.
I was always Team Lady Sybil. When she died I was Team Lady Edith. I'm glad Marry's bile & viciousness doesn't screw this up.
This is the best Match in the Show, Mary was just a taker so her relationships were 1 sided. Edith was equally a giver & a reluctant taker, her relationships are equal, full, complete, loving. I love these two.
So very true! They should have killed off Lady Mary until Lady Sybil!
Edith is so beautiful inside and out, and her earnest, expressive face looks like a vulnerable but courageous Disney heroine.
She has always had it hard Lady Edith and i have always really liked her role. In the end, she is the one that out ranked her family, she deserved to have a happy ending.
Edith had matured and I still think she grew and changed the most~
I would love to see a Bertie and Edith spin-off on PBS! Who is with me now!!?
I am
Just not on PBS - but maybe another channel
👋
The idea sounds like one of those dreadful American sit-coms when they try to milk it with spin-offs. It never works and tends to detract from the original. Sorry.
YEAH! DEW IT!
Edith always made me swoon since season 1 back in 2010. When she finally got with Bertie my heart was full for her.
I love these two! Such great acting!
So happy that Edith had a happy story line.
Love Edith ....I was happy that the behind the scenes orchestration brought them together and not kept them apart ... 💕💕💕
Oh my goodness, I loved Pelham!!!!!!!
Penniless or wealthy, he's such a gentleman and handsome too. Their chemistry is fantastic.
Hard agree
I am so happy to see this clip! I'm in the throws of watching the whole series, currently season 5.
Edith is such a sweet woman, so much more heart than her sister Mary. After all the heartache she went through I'm overjoyed to see her find true 💕
Bertie was such a sweet, sensitive, kind man. He softened Lady Edith's rough edges.
Absolutely right
Edith really could have possibly caused alot of damage and scandal to her family when she wrote to the Turkish embassy about Mary and Pamuk.
@@the8thchurch461 yeah but ruining your family and yourself by association isn’t the best thing to do when your sister is mean to you.
@@MsPandachen Of course it isn't. But she lashed out in response to Mary's constant, constant chipping away at her self-esteem and getting absolutely no support from her family.
Everyone forgets it was Thomas who passed on the story and made it London gossip.
The serie's perfection continues throughout this clip as well... Perfection... Thank you for posting and everyone else for all the thoughtful comments supporting these efforts.
I love those two. They could do a series based on their new life. That would be awesome!
I'm not crying. You're crying!
I COULD WATCH THE RESTAURANT SETUP OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!
Me too❤❤❤❤
I always admired Edith's vulnerability and gentile nature especially when she was in love or with people that showed her love. Her eyes glisten, and her voice would become soft and gentle. As per Mery..that's a whole another story 😒
8:14 "The only thing I'm not ready for is a life without you" 😭😭😭 MY HEART! This show has raised my standards far too high
Michael Gregson was the love of her life - It's definitely true. And I was so heartbroken when he died. But Im glad Edith got her happy ever after with Bertie, they made a good couple
"I've done a very bad job." I'd have been all his after that confession.
I love his acting at that point. And then trying to hide emotion when the waiter appeared.
Suuuuch a good acting choice. He’s awesome.
Beautiful Edith. What a wonderful character! Utterly loathesome at first then turned into a total knockout. I loved her. 🥰
I'm so glad Edith and Bertie got their happy ending.
My favorite scene is when Lord G says “what a turn up” “a copper bottom Marquess”
Beautiful church wedding ceremony at the end.
I love Edith and Bertie!
Lady Edith is my Favorite character. She is a Good person
that always believed in L❤ve, but
it never turned out right for her. I
was So Happy when she FINALLY got a Love that worked, Happiness & and the bonus of a Elevated status. Bernie is the perfect man for her & he even developed the Cool factor in the movie. The actress, that plays Marigold was the perfect choice, she had the vulnerability that Lady
Edith has. Downton Abbey is a Worldwide Masterpiece. All the actors gave A+ performances,
the writing was Great with ALL of
the characters having riveting storylines. I purchased the
whole 6 seasons & have seen
all six seasons, 3 times. I saw the movie, brought the dvd & I am Looking forward to seeing the second movie.
Bertie Pelham's tailoring is absolutely immaculate.
I love Bertie so much! He’s such a doll and so perfect for Edith whom I also love! ❤ They turned that “ugly duckling” (although I never thought she was ugly) into a beautiful swan!
Love their story and can't WAIT until the 2nd movie!!!
My sister and I saw it yesterday, and it does not disappoint. We loved it!
Love her wedding dress...I loved her first one too..
the clothes responsible of the series did an amazing job with all of Edith's wardrobe, incl both her wedding dresses :)
I would wear most of that stuff nowadays without a problem :)
Simply Stunning
About time we saw more of this story! Thank you!
These two where perfect for each other
I love these two, was so glad when they finally married. Love this show forever!!!
So beautiful- I forgotten how much I truly loved Edith
I love how Bertie is just like a lovestruck teenager
Love these two. Henry and Mary felt forced.
Agree!
the drama was a bit exaggerated between Mary and Henry, indeed, but otherwise I thought they also made a great couple... and his physical resemblance to Michelle's real-life fiance (who had passed away by then) was eerie...
@@Crisco8624 Are you kidding?! He passed away before the end of this show?! Oh my...
@@naturazpolski9213 yes, and I recall reading that he passed around the same time Mathew was killed off, too...
