    I always drove Scania when I was driving..once you drive a V8 Scania, there's no going back to drive anything else - you just miss the power, comfort, driving position and that gorgeous 16 litre V8 sound all day long!
    And there's a saying..if you don't like driving a Scania..you don't like driving..end of - you're in the wrong job!
    Regards and thanks for a great film from Wales,Uk

    +wambogo jonah We don't have these big trucks in Europe, because there is a limit on how long the vehicle can be, which is about 25 meters. So you don't need bigger trucks, because the load will never even be close 100 tonnes. In fact I don't think the load can be higher than 40-50 tonnes without special permission.
    So for being Europe, this load is really, really, really heavy.

      The roads in the northern part of Sweden where they are driving tend to be quite twisty and also have massive inclines and sudden downhill parts. I have driven up there myself and it can be a lot worse that you might think so i think the second truck helps push on the steep uphill bits and also helps with braking on the downhill bits.

      In Finland one logging company has been testing 100 ton logging trucks in Lapland for about a year now. Finnish government has plans to allow trucks weighing up to 100 tonnes for some stretches of Finnish highway network, and Swedish authorities have also been interested about the trial.

      even in germany. We do have a lot super heavy hauls with 250+ tons. all the arguments of the writer in the top are nonsense. max. length of a standard truck in europe are 16.5 m and 40 tons total mass. when we speak about heavy haul, we have to care about axle load, width and hight. Last year we had some 500+ ton transports of transformators here around Kassel with some mean climbs.

    So a serious question here. How much of the weight of the load is actually being carried by the last 4 axles of the trailer? I mean obviously the axles directly under the load are supporting the weight and also the 2 axles nearest but not under the load are sure to be as well, but the trailer has a clear sag where the weight is concentrated. Now for the rear 4-axles to have their tires touching the ground, they have to have their hydraulics pushing the wheel bogies downward which causes more upward deflection in the last segment of the Goldhofer, which to me suggests that they are only supporting the weight of the unloaded rear trailer segment. I guess the extra trailer segment and axles are more for braking help than weight distribution?

    I count about 64 tires on the ground on the trailer. I'm guessing of the 200 ton total load about 3.1 ton of weight on the ground per tire or do you figure it a different way? did they stop for a cup of tea? just kidding. Love those Scania truck even thought I have not seen on in person just pictures but the picture was beautiful with the pain jobs they had on them. Don want to sound to dumb but how does the pusher know how much power to give his engine when he pushing? No more question, Thanks for a very out standing video.

    • @KimiMotoVlog
      @KimiMotoVlog 8 лет назад

      +John Moore it's computed a bit differently. instead of per tire, it should be the contact surface area of the tire that's actually in contact with the ground. pressure = Force / Area

    • @silverblackss
      @silverblackss 8 лет назад +3

      +John Moore The trailer has 16 axles, each with 8 tires, so 128 tires. The transformer is placed on the trailer forward so that the gooseneck to transfer weight to the truck at it's maximum possible (about 35 tons) for maximum traction on slippery surface. If you noticed, in front of the transformer there are 3 axles of the trailer and 7 axles behind it, each axles being rated at 16 tons. Considering that the weight is balanced front-to-back and the position of the pin of the gooseneck is placed further than the midpoint of a normal 4 axles trailer set, the 200 tons of transformer are distributed on 16+(7-3)*75%=19 axles, so theoretickly about 200tons/19axles*4axles*75%= 31.5tons are sent to the truck for traction. As for the pusher driver, he's in continous radio contact with the front driver, so he pusher only when the other asks for it.

    • @heuhen

      +wambogo jonah In Scandinavia we have something called hills with insane inclines. that extra truck is there just to give that little extra when needed. but also help with braking when going down those hills. other than that, the extra truck is just being towed around by the other truck.

    Q: Why is the weight taken over the trailer wheels when on most of these
    I've watched it is suspended between 2 trailers? Is it because those ones are heavier?
    No police escort either. Good vid, thanks.

    • @bm1113
      @bm1113  3 года назад

      Thanks You will probably get more and better answers but yes there are several different reasons one that they need to get lower load height. (see my wind turbine tower videos for exemple ;) ) And as you mention many times, it is heavier but has also seen that in some cases they can be other requirements that make them an incredibly much larger trailer for less load weight than these. so do not know what the requirements are in different countries. And about Police escort the Pilot cars some of the police escort authority after some education. So the police do not have to do jobs like this ;)

  • @canvids1
    @canvids1 9 лет назад +9

    I may be wrong on this and if I am I stand corrected.
    The wheels that are under the load are doing the work.
    I used to drive tractor trailer here in Ontario Canada and from what I am looking at
    all those extra wheels are for show or just happened to be what they had at the time to haul that load, because all those extra wheels are not doing anything and not carrying part of the load. yes ! no! replies please!

    • @bm1113
      @bm1113  9 лет назад +3

      ***** Hi im not a expert but I think the suspension balances out the pressure from the load evenly over all axles when it is pneumatic or hydraulic controlled for each pair of wheels

    • @TheWoodbutcher66
      @TheWoodbutcher66 9 лет назад +1

      ***** And the customer will no doubt take a hit for those extra axles!

    • @blixtenkarting
      @blixtenkarting 9 лет назад

      +canvids1 it probably all comes down to axle weights, one single axle can't have more then 10 tones of axle weight. and excuse me if my math is not even close to correct haha but 200 tones/16 axles would be 12.5 tones per axle but if 3 axles have a spred of less then 5 meters u can load that set of axles up to 24 tones and add the weight of the platform itself and you probably get close what you are allowed to load

    • @MadlySevered
      @MadlySevered 9 лет назад +1

      +Erik Blixt Your math is probably correct but you forget that the truck itself has 3 axles and the load on the trucks axles is allowed to carry 18 tons . So the 2,5 tons extra on each axle combines to 40 tons, and the 3 axles on the truck is allowed to carry 54 tons. So its safe and legal :)

      Because Scania only make cabovers, and US companies don't want those as in the US there's way more driving long distances and these have poorer road stability than a longer wheelbase truck. Also, you wouldn't want to live in a truck this small for weeks XD

      It mainly breaks when it is needed, but as possible it also pushes, thru a rod that pivots on both ends, so they tend to make good use of that extra power when the front truck is changing gears or climbing on straight line

      It is at least not filmed with a Mobile Phone and I do this in my spare time.
      Then there will be no studio sound but I try to get videos with as little wind disturbances etc as possible :)
