- Two retired SWAT snipers in Green Country told 2 News numerous major failings in security led to the deadly shooting targeting former President Donald Trump.
Retired Maj. Nate Norton of the Sapulpa Police Department worked more SWAT calls with the Southwest Area Tactical Team than he can count. He retired from the force in 2019, which is why he can openly comment on the shooter who got a 148-yard view of Trump on July 13.

I am former SWAT and worked at a Federal LE Agency, no one, not even a rookie would not have secured that building, when you look at a map that was the one place that stood out, a former Canadian special forces sniper, who has done Prime Minister protection detail, said a 7th grader would have realized that building was a security threat and he is right. NO ONE is that incompetent, take that for what you will.

Look at the women assigned to him. They may be competent but SS agents are trained to use their bodies as shields. How do you effectively do that if the asset is a full foot taller than you? #1 : there were SS snipers on other roofs.
#2 : many such buildings have ladders on them for roof access, but they can almost always be 'locked'.
#3 : locals were probably focused on the event, not the nothing-area near those warehouse/businesses way over there. Plus, carrying weapons is allowed in Penn.
#4 : you can BUILD IEDs.. that's literally what the first letter in the abbreviation means : IMPROVISED.

It might not have been the Secret Services's responsibility.
They are usually responsible for near security (agents right next to President and may a few dozen yards out ) and far security (the snipers looking out hundreds of meters, possibly a kilometer plus). In most cases, everything inbetween is the responsibility of the local police. The SS wil do a pre-event sweep, but during the event, the responsibility falls on the local police.

The first story I saw on this incident showed an aerial photo of the site, with an arrow pointing to the shooter’s location and another to the stage where Trump was standing. Moving back in time before the incident to the most elementary evaluation of this location, it is inconceivable that a roof with an unobstructed view above the stage would not be at least under constant observation, with access to it denied, and simple prudence dictating that it be occupied by security personnel. Secret service said no increases or changes in protection for the RNC. No lessons learned. What's crazy is a local cop confronted him on the roof he pointed his weapon and the cop retreated, confirmed i don't know.
The outer perimeter was assigned to the local police. The secret service however is the lead agency in such events. The problem is either that the locals dropped the ball or there was confusion as to whether he was part of the security or not (which is solidly the Secret Service's fault).
I am not willing to entertain any conspiracy theories here. Conspiracies are rare. Stupidity is common. Unless some genuine evidence of conspiracy arises, I will presume it's yet another example of human effing stupidity.
