Thanks Kirsty, I'm studying distance learning Nail Technology and find everything easy but i always check up with my clients that i do not charge and they have mostly said a few of their nails have come off after a days or a week. I feel really disheartened by it because I'm doing what im taught but watching and hearing you say don't use cutticle remover oil as the acrylic or gel wont stick to it. I think i just found my problem. Your a genius, i love your work, your very FIERCE 😍😍😚. SEDNDING MY GRATITUDE FROM DOWN UNDER AKA MELBOURNE VICTORIA AUSTRALIA 😍. I WILL TRY WITHOUT CUTICLE REMOVER OIL AND SEE WHAT MY OUT COME IS. BLESSINGS TO YOU GORGOUS ANGEL 😍
I do my own nails, after years of going to a salon. Do many people say different things. Every time I do mine I use the cuticle gel remover from Sally Hansen. I never have lifting. I do usually use alcohol after to clean and dehydrate, and I always use a primer. It's crazy to me how everyone is so different!! Just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Some people just make more oil then others too. Don't be to hard on yourself!! You're doing an amazing thing!! I hope you find that technique to be beneficial to you!! Keep experimenting too, there's always something to learn or improve!! I just recently started using an e-file!! Man did that up my game, but it's scary haha!! I wish you all the best!!!
Thank you. That was very helpful. I've been reading it about cuticle work with the e-file but have NEVER dared to try it. I'll experiment on myself before trying it on clients
I thank god I came across your videos because I want to learn how to do nails soo yup can't wait to give a thumbs up to every single one i watch.. thank you so so much for sharing !!
Thank you guys! Kristy and everyone involved! I have been watching countless videos to be able to apply nails for myself and close friends. I became fascinated with making nails after I saw what you can do with them. Your time is greatly appreciated. I have loved learning with your videos. Thank you. Jera
Every time I get my nails done, they’re done badly and I end up having to fix em myself so I’m trying to teach myself how to do my own. Your videos are amazing for thag
How's it going for you?? I started doing my own nails because I was just spending too much money!! It's definitely tricky, and takes practice, there's so much to know, and everyone thinks they're an expert haha!! She's taught me so much I'm so thankful for her!!! Also mail career education with Susie, long hair pretty nails, and Emily Susannah I believe is her last name? They've all helped me so much!!
Hey there from South Africa. Not nail related. Although I follow all your videos and have learned a lot since subscribing to you. Would love a full pic of the top you are wearing in this video. I want to alter some of my patterns and this top is really eye catching.
Hi Kirsty! Could you show how you did your nail designs out have on now? Particularly the large gems and how you would get then to stay on? Thank you so much for all the help! X
Thank you so much I really needed this video it gives me a better idea with using the E-file and as a new nail tech student how I should be doing things the correct way.
Shane Madrid Make sure it’s a bit specifically designed for the nail plate. There are so many out there they say they are, but they’re not and cause horrible damage. Always be gentle and cautious, and again, stay on a low setting as she mentioned. I just graduated from school and to be honest, we pushed back the cuticle with a solution called, “Cuticle Away.” It helped loosen the non living tissue and made for a great removal. After washing it off with soap and water, we then nipped. We never used efiles to remove the tissue. Once we dehydrated the nail, the cuticle solution didn’t negatively effect how the nails stayed on; that’s just another alternative. Using the efile (when done correctly) is definitely awesome as well. I hope school is going well 💖
What would you recommend as a good starter kit for beginners doing hard gel nails at home? I just want to test this out to see if this is really something I’d want to work with! Thanks! Also, love all your videos, just found you like 5 days ago and I’ve already watched so many!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for the great lessons Kirsty, you are the best nail artist ever! I've been in the cosmetology biz for almost 2 decades in Denver Colorado and I've never seen anybody as good in person or on the internet!
Dead and nonliving could possibly be synonyms but they do NOT mean the same thing. Dead means that an organism was alive at one point nut no longer is. Nonliving an an object that was NEVER alive. Like a vase. You wouldnt say that a vase was dead because it was never alive before.
Hello Kirsty ...I really luv your work...I've learned so much watching your videos...1 question tho..whts the best wattage lamp for curing gels or does it not matter
Thank you, it's good to get refreshed on those things. 🖤 Just a question, What if the client has very sensitive cuticles, this has been a problem for me before, filing over like that wouldn't have been possible.
Jacqueline-Emma Dulcie I have one client with an extremely sensitive cuticle area, and with a quality e-file (less vibration) and the really small cuticle bit (scyver?) all she feels is a bit of a tickle, no pain or discomfort at all. Hope that helps.
Jacqueline-Emma Dulcie We used “Cuticle Away” at school to push back (had to then wash it off with soap and water before nipping) and never had to use any type of file to remove the cuticle. The “Cuticle Away” never affected how the nails stayed on, once they were dehydrated afterwards.
I love getting my nails done. But after getting solar nails a few times I realized my nail bed was damaged. I have thin nails and the use of the drill took too much off to the point where my regular nails were paper thin. I've had to do with store bought nails and lightly sand my nail beds. Really suxs since I love the professional nails so much better. I haven't looked into any other nails so if there's ines to get that won't mess up my nail beds I'd love to hear about it.
If they damaged your nail beds they were not doing it right an efile does not cause damage it's the same as a hand file but you have to know how to do it right
It has way more to do with the person doing your service rather than the product itself. This is a very common thing in the nail world I hear it all the time but it's not usually the products it's the person who uses them. Either they were not taught properly. Or hate to say it some techs get lazy after being in the business a long time. Not saying all techs are that way and it's few and far between but it sometimes does happen.
We would suggest to use a soft file, with a grit of 240, to buff natural nails. Alcohol can be used in place of gel res to clean the nails after buffing them :)
Would you say that gel damages your nails and makes them thin? I do gel but have noticed that my nails are thinner and more flexible than before... i am assuming i over buff,
IMPORTANT QUESTION: whenever i get acryllic nails in square or coffin shape they always curve and turn sqaoval and round. i use my hands a lot between home and work so my nails get banged up a bit. I've never had hard gel application or nails sculpted without a tip glued on. would gel nails or sculpted nails make a difference or will nails always curve overtime no matter what?
Mercedes Igus There could be two reasons for curving: 1) The tech applied the tips in a downward direction (which is incorrect) 2) Your natural nail growth pattern has the free edge grow in a downward motion. Assuming that your issue isn't the latter, I would say sculpting to an extent can help, but it's more based off on how the form is applied. All in all, either one won't necessarily "correct" how the nail grows. Hope this helped in giving insight and good luck! 😘
Thanks for your response, but no my nails dont curve downward at all. and it has nothing to do with how my nails grow, everything is perfectly straight. What i mean is when i get straight or coffin nails that is supposed to have a nice straight edge, after a few days the edges curve and look rounded, as supposed to staying nice and straight.
Heya because you use your hands a lot you’re nails have basically gone blunt. If you wore stiletto shaped nails they’d end up very round at the end instead of pointy and sharp. It’s very normal to happen when someone works a lot with their hands
Mmm I’ve done the same pushing and everything with the cuticules but I apply a tiny drop of remover and after 2 mins I start pushing the cuticules and it comes out itself like magic
Hi love your work. I’m thinking of getting naio acrylic and starting fresh. How long do they last do clients come back for infills? It looked like this client had acrylic on her nails?
All you need is alcohol and acetone. Every brand had their own fancy products like CND has scrub fresh and young nails Inc has swipe. It's all essentially the same thing and does the same purpose. Alcohol to dehydrate and remove bacteria and acetone is to dehydrate even more.
Washing hands is okay. The nails will only absorb a significant amount only if it's submerged for 60 secs or more. Washing hands before any service is good as it will remove the dirt and bacteria. The alcohol used to clean the nail is not enough to remove the bacteria alone. Doug schoon (scientist) says so so any other person who says otherwise is wrong lol.
Client can usually tell you if their previous nail technician took out a liquid and powder or if it was gel in a bottle. If not, you can push down gently on the nail and if it's hard and not flexible then it's acrylic but if it is slightly flexible then it's gel
Lorna That would be a cool video! For us, we sanitize our implements and then enclose them within a hospital grade disinfectant for ten minutes, after every single use. Clients may take home the files for personal use or we throw them out (as they’re all single use, here).
kirsty ... love these prep videos....technical question.... why don't you soak the nails to soften that dead tissue on the cuticles? ? I'm just wondering if there is a reason...and is this just the prep for using acrylic and gel nails. .. always love your stuff kirsty!!!
Wendy Murphy I'm not sure for her but for me is because it can sometimes make the nails too moist and the product can have a hard time adhering to the nail plate with that much moisture in it. It's essentially why I for use any oils or lotions till the end of the service so there is no chance of fit on the nail plate while doing the application of acrylic or gel. Hope this helps and I didn't jamble on too long lol.
You should never soak the nails before gel or acrylic application. The nails absorb the water, lotion or oil and the product can't adhere on it. Also trapping moisture between the nail and the product can cause fungus as well.
@AwwwSweetieDarling it's time saving but that's not the reason why you don't soak. The gel or acrylic just won't last long and can cause fungus as the nail absorbs water and is trapped between the nail plate and nail product when it starts to evaporate after an hour.
Thank you for sharing your techniques. I'm always looking for better ways to make my acrylic nails last.
Hi! I like watching your videos tooo. Love them. You're great at doing nails. 👍

What grit file for prep??
Do you clean under the nails before adding the nails?
Where did you get that cuticle pusher?!?!? I love the color!

Bambi yeah.. dry cuticle is technically attached to the nail but if you cut it it won’t bleed.. like a dry flower on a bush

Had a look on youtube that product looks awesome - wondering how do you use it for refills?
what type of nail drill are you using
If you don't have gel residue what could you use ie alcohol or acetone?
Thanks love
Is there a direction of filing the nail plate when removing the shine
Is Kirsty gonna do a video on how she did her nails here? They are so cute! Looks like diamond strawberry accent nails 😊
Adam Bouabda shame on her! Lol, love the work the both of you do 💖

Hi! Beautiful work! How is the name of this sanding machine? =)

Does Artificial Nail Remover Works the same as the gel residue remover that you/she are/is using?
Can you see acetone instead of the gel residue solution
What dehydrator and primer do you use naio nails
I like your machine. How can I get that?
Can you do a video on damaged nails from acrylic, someone messed up my nail bed I have two deep lines across the nail and a big bump
Is there a "replacement" for the gel wipe - off solution?
Noe Dactyl 90+% isopropyl alcohol
Hi kirsty Love you all the way from the Philippines.
Would you say that gel damages your nails and makes them thin? I do gel but have noticed that my nails are thinner and more flexible than before... i am assuming i over buff,
What can I do if I don't have protein bond ,and are allergic to non acid primer when I am working on my own nails?

There could be two reasons for curving:

Hola me encantas tus videos!! Pero no le entiendo, puedes traducirlos! Gracias 😊😀

Hi love your work. I’m thinking of getting naio acrylic and starting fresh. How long do they last do clients come back for infills? It looked like this client had acrylic on her nails?
Normal time between infills is two to three weeks depending on how quick your nails grow
Naio Nails so they do not break / peel off? This is what I’m having trouble with clients pick them off and don’t have them done again?
Is it right to soak the nails in water before applying hard gel? Likes spa manicure?
No nails need to be dry before anything
is there a pinching technique video
What nail drill do you use ?
omfg ur so skilled, if you're ever looking for an apprentice .lol👌🙋
Why do u use gel wipe off solution instead of acetone?
Because one is rubbing alcohol and the other is acetone.
Why do you sometimes use wipe off gel lotion and sometimes acetone.
All you need is alcohol and acetone. Every brand had their own fancy products like CND has scrub fresh and young nails Inc has swipe. It's all essentially the same thing and does the same purpose. Alcohol to dehydrate and remove bacteria and acetone is to dehydrate even more.
What is k2 primer used for
Where can I purchase one of the cone bits?
Bella 😍 😘 😘 😘
When you remove the gel/acrylic and do a new set, do you buff the whole nail or just the cuticle area?
Natasha Mostert buff the whole nail, to ensure no product residue.
What grit file are you using when filing over the cuticles ?
180/180 grit
great video! what is that mauve colour on Kristy's nails? x
Kirsty is wearing Pashmina - UGGP-A0023 on her nails! :)
The client has the same hand freckles as kirsty 🤷🏻♀️ possibly mom or someone close in her gene pool 🧬
Do you ship to the US
I eat my skin too, well my cuticles 😱😂😂
Is it advisable to dip the hand in water before applying gel..some clients insist on washing their nails first
Washing hands is okay.
Hi how do you know whether the client has gel or acrylic on their nails when they come in for a fill?
Client can usually tell you if their previous nail technician took out a liquid and powder or if it was gel in a bottle. If not, you can push down gently on the nail and if it's hard and not flexible then it's acrylic but if it is slightly flexible then it's gel
Have you ever used the efile to entirely prep the nail?
Lisa Jakober I don't know about Kirsty but I use my efile to completely prep the nail I just use different bits for different parts of the nail :)
You have a higher risk of filing off more layers of the nail than your supposed to thats how you end up with the ring of fire
Where can I get a good e-file ?
🤣🤣 shes so funny i literally love her 🥺
How do you sterilize all your tools, files and brushes?
Lorna That would be a cool video! For us, we sanitize our implements and then enclose them within a hospital grade disinfectant for ten minutes, after every single use.
Clients may take home the files for personal use or we throw them out (as they’re all single use, here).
Disinfectant, hot water or pure alcohol usually it is the 3rd option that is most commonly used
Perfect! I love your vedios !
thank you!
I have a particular person who always lifts no matter what I do. Suggestions?
kirsty ... love these prep videos....technical question.... why don't you soak the nails to soften that dead tissue on the cuticles?
Dry non living tissue is easier to remove than if it was softened.
@AwwwSweetieDarling it's time saving but that's not the reason why you don't soak. The gel or acrylic just won't last long and can cause fungus as the nail absorbs water and is trapped between the nail plate and nail product when it starts to evaporate after an hour.
I noticed you didn't use a cuticle nipper? Is that only because of this client or do you ever use it?
Cee Holley it's illegal for nail techs to cut away the cuticle it's considered surgery by state board.
Hi Kirsty where did you get your e-file ?
That has to be your mom or sisters hands, the freckles match yours! 😆
HI WILL BE BE A VIDEO SHOWING AFTER THIS PREP STEP EG SHOWING YOU APPLYING TIPS PRIMER ACRYLIC?
do you do nails or do you just teach? cause i see that you’re based in stoke but i can’t find anyone who actually does decent nails here :(
I hope there is an Indonesian translation, I always watch u'r vidio
