I owe literally 100 percent of my bass fishing knowledge to Matt and Tim. I have been bass fishing specifically for 3 years, avidly, and I haven't missed one video since starting. Thank you guys both for all of the detailed information. Matt and his detailed power fishing vids and Tim with the spy like finesse tactic there isn't a bass out there they don't prepare you for. Thank you gentlemen
A lot of guys have trouble with jigs. They are one of my top confidence baits. If you can fish a Texas rig, you can fish a jig. As a general rule of thumb, if there is vegetation or a grass edge or seam, I'm using a Texas rigged soft plastic. If it's timber or laydowns or something harder or man-made ( concrete chunks, posts, docks, etc) I reach for a jig first. You don't need 75 types of jigs. You can get by with some flipping and Arkie jigs of various sizes in natural and dark colors. Don't be afraid to take that skirt off, either. You can then thread a worm or other plastic on there and work it almost like a more weedless shaky head. Or, what I do, I'll actually wacky rig a stick bait on that skirtless jig and work it around timber. I've caught so many fish doing that.
Oh yeah….this is what I have been waiting for! Caught a 6lber in about 6-8ft of water. This lake/pond max depth is 6-8ft…..I didn’t know bass could get that big in such shallow water.
My dude, as a Floridian, let me just say that you can find ridiculously large bass almost anywhere, in any body of water, so long as it has enough depth for their gills. They infest every puddle around here, and my PB is also a 6lber I caught out of a drainage pond. I have supposed 'world-class' fisheries all around me, and nothing is as good as hitting the little ponds.
If I could only have one UTube channel to watch, it would be Tactical Bassin. Matt and Tim are the master craftsmen of basing and are always spot on. Thanks guys.
I think if your a beginner bass fisher you can learn immediately after watching alot of there films....but if your a very experienced angler like me you still throw my/your stuff when I get disparate...i do however experiment with Matt's ideas and there stuff...
@@briangodbold2536 I’ve done well in the past applying there tips when appropriate to do so. I agree once you get comfortable with a technique, color, when and where, you can do just as well. They build a great foundation for new anglers and also they continue to give experienced anglers the ability grow in their craft.
@@briangodbold2536 I think you're dead right.. Theyve helped me and give a great base for new anglers but things are bit as simple as they make it sound. And they say it so matter of fact that it gives the illusion that it's really simple when it's not... For example: "I know exactly where the fish are gonna be"... No sir, it isn't that easy or simple most days
Thank you. I started watching your videos after years of just not fishing after that fall transition as I never had any luck. First day kayaking after watching a bunch of TacticalBassin and I caught a half dozen largies all over 3 pounds, one 4lb 6oz! Everyone out on the lake turned as I hooped and hollared, and not one other person caught a fish in the two hours I was out. So again. Thank you!
Wow Matt a lot of very useful information here. Really enjoy your videos. Keep em coming I will be trying some of these techniques and I am sure will work better than what I am trying now Thanks again dude
I've learned a lot from you guys but would like to comment on your take on grass that's dying back. I live in Minnesota and really only fish grass lakes. The bluegill still relate to that dying grass therefore the bass here don't simply abandon those areas. I'm still catching plenty of bass around that grass. Maybe i'm not flipping into it but I think it's a bit misleading saying they abandon it. Thanks guys. I really do love your content.
Matt I absolutely agree, 🎉the Expride 6’10” med paired with the Shimano Aldebaran is a joy to fish. I’ve had to neck surgeries and weight and fatigue are issues for me while fishing. Using this set up, I can fish all day. Thank you for the advice, I’ve also fallen into the Loomis IMX PRO line-up( thank you very much), but the rods are warranted and are very light weight. As always have enjoyed your insight!! Dedicated Folsom Lake Angler Dave Campbell
About a week late getting this out for my tournament this year...oh well! Goodness it was cold all weekend! I caught 1 white bass and no largemouth. They did eat my partners compact spinner shad color though. 2 very small ones was all. Thanks Matt!
Been having success on a finesse jig with a 4” Twin Tail grub even in open water and around lay downs. I use a Megabass Orochi Tour Versatile. A little stiffer rod, but it is super sensitive and I can use it for multiple applications. Being primarily a kayak angler versatility is important.
Matt I'm going to put you up there with my fishing hero the great Bill Dance when it comes to educational videos,,,Bill has always went into detail but man,,you get into it and we love ya for your passion and dedication to this ultimate sport...BTW I also believe that the Fishing With Matt Allen show would be a great success on TV these days.....
What amazes me the most about Matt is his ability to present a vast amount of high-quality content with almost no fumbles, bumbles or stumbles and few, if any, edits. Tim is also very good at this. That is NOT easy. As far as television, I would agree, but I would also speculate that the TB guys enjoy the freedom to create their own content, on their own schedule that the RUclips format provides. There would also almost certainly be sponsorship commitments in the TV format. Good luck out there!
Goodmorning guys! As a northeastern angler the micro skirted jig has become an absolute staple in my arsenal As always love the content keep up the great work
I’ve used a jig a few times out on the water to no luck, maybe it wasn’t the best times or conditions, but this video inspired me to tie on a jig and try again the next time I go out.
If you want to get better with jigs then the next time you go take just your jigs. Take the time to learn the new technique and once you catch a couple fish your confidence will grow
This might sound weird, But I've found if my jig color matches the falling leaves too closely it gets ignored. Maybe they're just getting beat up by too many leaf colored jigs and have developed an aversion. In any case, color contrast works better where I fish. Great video, as always!
Pond fishing jig? Has emerged, submerged grass, rocky areas, docks, and soft bottom. It’s man made super clear like 10 feet visibility with a max depth of 16 feet. Average depth 6-8 feet. Main forage is bluegill.
Matt,I had a champion bass boat back in the day. Out of four boats, champion was by far the best. Same color as yours. Best riding boat I ever road in. It happened to be my last boat, but had I known would have been my first. How do you like yours?
Hello Matt I've been watching your videos for a long time just want to say thank you they've been very helpful question for you how would you fish a floating dock I've been seeing a couple of bass swimming underneath the dock but I couldn't get them to bite is there any advice you could give me to help me catch those fish under the floating docks
Great jig lesson. It has not been part of my arsenal but I have been trying to figure it out. This has helped. On another note at some point would you review the Halo HFX rods. Thanks.
I’m in Nova Scotia far far North according to you lol and every got Damn pond, lake , river , water system is plagued with grass, tollies , lily pads, selt it’s almost impossible to not fish weed less and I still catch more weed then anything else
Why not just stay with the compact jig instead of the finesse jig? I ask because I stay with my compact with fine square rubber as I designed the hook to work with either and feel the Arkie type head and rubber gives me an abvantage, and the 5/16 is let's me fish from 0 to 20 feet... then move from there to the micro.
Hey man! Love jigs myself. Just curious what are your thoughts on the swinging arm swim jigs by strike king? I used them a lot this year and they're pretty solid. They don't have a weed hard but the hookset is still topnotch.
Hey guys, quick question. When you’re using the emtf for football jigs (specifically 3/4 oz) are you using strictly finesse footballs or are you using full sized as well? Don’t really want to break mine using the wrong one.
Can you guys do a review between the Brailist in both the Orochii and the Levante lines because I've read in multiple places that the Levante is nowhere near as good as the Orochii but I'd like to know your guys opinions. I think I can talk my way to the Levante's $200 price point but the Orochii price would be a hard buy to get past my wife 😅👍Or is there another great jig rod $200 and under that you would recommend?
Thanks Matt. So the jig is up! This time of year a jig screams to me. I don't like them in the warmer months but fall to spring they go back in the boat. Do you ever throw 1/4oz or even lighter jigs?
I still have 3 diff medium weight spinning rods I throw all my lures with. Lol! I don’t understand all these specific rods for bass fishing. It’s like voodoo
Jigs are by far my weakest area 😅…I fish a Tx rig or Tokyo rig over a jig but I wanna get more into them…great vid as always u hit all the finer points of jigs 🔥
Pitching and flipping are ways to make short casts to thick cover or vegetation. This is usually done with a jig or a Texas rigged soft plastic. I have a few videos where I detail the process if you want to see them.
The MOST sensitive rod ever put on the market was this $26 two piece spinning rod by Shakespeare,, guaranteed !!! .. it's now my Ned rig rod before I landed literally thousands of large mouth and Smallies with it...
You guys are always talking about how this rod costs more than yours and this rod is parabolic etc etc and this rod works for this jig but not that one,,and all I can think of is just how ridiculous y'all are going on about such a trivial thing... ....I jig fish with a 7' MH Shaw Grisby signature series Quantum rod with a 6-4 ratio Quantum reel, and let me tell you,,, the rod is stiff as a que stick and I can count EVERY stone on the bottom with ease,,big stone,,no problem, hand full of gravel here,,oh a blade of grass ya say ? And the bass have little to no chance !! And that's from a rod that cost $150 in 1996 ! You can put another $400 with that and G. Loomis still can't come up with anything remotely close to it...
Is Matt related to Al Linder “In Fisherman”Matt’s videos are TOP Notch without question the best informative videos!!Thank you Matt from North Jersey

Same in NY, the grass could be black and still full of bass. Don't stop fishing grass till its gone
Thanks Matt for this video!! This information is pure gold!! Tight lines my friend!!

I think your videos are awesome and this video helps me getting into jig fishing
Great break down video. Solid work
