If I had to pick one bait, and one bait only, it would be a spinnerbait. The versatility and ability to catch fish 12 months a year from the surface to the bottom is just amazing. . I learned "waking " a spinnerbait at Kentucky lake in 1974 from a local fella over there out of Paris Landing.
I’ve used that technique for years. I remember on jimmy Houston outdoor, back in the 80’s. He was fishing in Texas with his wife. He was fishing a strike king short arm spinnerbaits, v waking it in a stump field. Good technique! Thanks for bringing back the memories of good fishing shows!
Dude, I saw this last night and applied your lesson today and caught the biggest bass of the pond I fished. 6 x 12-15” lost one. Burning that spinner bait was awesome. Thank you, Sir.
The quad spinner works great too. I know you're pushing to sell something but I've fished a quad spinner in the fall since they came out & it works very well. I fish it basically using the technique described. If you lift your rod as the lure approaches the water & crank you can ease it in and get it moving immediately with practice.
Have you ever tried to ‘burn or rip’ an Alabama rig, keeping it subsurface? Just a thought to try? Really appreciate all your help in trying to educate us! Thanks again for the great work you do!
Short strikers are, more often than not, dinks. My experience is that quality fish rarely miss and it’s mostly the smaller fish that swipe at a lure or get hung with the trailer hook.
It seems like every RUclips video I watch people have to switch hands I'm right-handed so I want my rod action to be controlled by my dominant hand a monkey can turn the handle of the real so always thought it was more effective that way proving your point corract if you don't have to switch hands after casting you can get right to reeling as soon as possible I feel like so many people are doing it backwards that's just my opinion though
You showed me that spinner bait ripping in michigan years ago , i think it was you ..late 90's i think ? Ran into KVD too , on river going to erie i was coming in , stoped and talked he was on his way out to practice for a tournament , i told him every spot i knew of , don't know if he tried them , there was what looked like a volkswagon on the fish finder , not to far from shore , south of raison river , covered in smallmouth , we beat them up pretty good before we left though ..
That might be fine in open water but, for us bank fishermen the spinner becomes a nightmare getting hung up is all the stuff in most lakes.... good info thanks
I’m don’t know why orange gets hot in the fall here but orange and gold can be dynamite at times. Other than that I am pretty much strictly shad patterns
Randy, thank you. Great video. I never caught one on the spinner bait. Yet. I definitely let it sink lol not anymore ,since 91. OK hope it didn’t hurt too bad good luck slim
Randy what an awesome video. I have some beauties in my box and have never caught anything on them. Now I know why. Thanks! but crap more $ on a Spinnerbait.
Randy your best video yet, if ever in calif. Look me up I'll take you fishing ,I have the boat, and a awsome place to go no ffs though sorry, you control the boat. I'll provide the lunch. Stay healthy out there.
I've heard that some people use heavier, black spinnerbaits. And drag them across the bottom at night.. do you see this technique working for night fishing.?
I Love your videos sir! I uses to watch you fish in the good ole days! You know back before they destroyed bass fishing with ffs! Keep up the good fight sir, something needs to be done! Bassmaster sucks now! No patterns no skill just video games!! I sure miss the golden days of fishing! RIP B.A.S.S.
I would bet everyone would be happy when BASS and Mlf go under. It's getting so boring with all these anti FFS bashing fishermen. Randy, has some good pointers, but he'a not telling any secrets, if he knows it, most others do also.
I’ve heard him say burn a spinner bait a million times but not this specific spinner bait, I love my berkley gold willow leaf and small silver Colorado combo and have caught a bunch of fish on it, but it deff turns a little when I burn it, and I usually fish it a little slower than randy is talking about here, absolutely sounds like something that’s worth trying for $13.95 w no trailer required and I get to buy some mega bass stuff and not feel to guilty, I loved the video
Is it true that to ERT gee was fishing a spot then gee left and found trey McKinney, give him baits and waypoint pulling McKinney from 9th to fourth place? Isn't that against bass rules and considered cheating?
I don't think it's against the rules for anglers to share info with one another. That's happened many times over the years, but i guess since Robert and Trey are young and wear flat(ter) brimmed hats, it must be wrong.
Randy u samdbaggin son of a gun u just sold me a spinner bait, red the reviews on tackle warehouse and they glaze it more than u did here!!!! Can’t wait to give it a shot!!

That little boil imitates fleeing bluegills that suspend just under the surface eating emerging nymphs...that's what I think...true reaction strike.

By casting left handed and reeling right handed while using a casting rod, it will get that spinner bait just below the surface more quickly.

If I were to get one color of the sv3, what would you recommend ?? Hasu, white python, or wakasagi?
I love the sv 2 and 3s now if ya can’t find em the war eagle finesse series will not blow out either
What reel speed, and rod do you use for this technique?
Dangle that chartreuse/blue jig over a limb that's hanging over spring bluegill beds and get bit by a big bluegill eater.
I do not use trailer hooks

There’s no doubt there’s so much cheating going on the elite series right now. I can’t even keep up with it all.

The Title should be "How to wake a spinnerbait", Great video but that ain't no secret.
So a 1/2oz bait catches 9lb'ers. If i do this technique with my 4oz bait, i should theoretically break the world record
What the hell are you talking about??? He said he caught a 9lber burning a spinner bait. If this was your attempt at a sarcastic dig, it is a fail.
