Film Synopsis:
In the acclaimed performance that earned her the Academy Award® for Best Actress, Sissy Spacek stars as legendary Loretta Lynn, the dirt poor Appalachian Mountains girl who rose from humble beginnings to become the "Queen of Country Music." At eighteen, the mother of four children and busy housewife still finds time to write and sing songs at small fairs and local honky-tonks. Recognizing her raw talent and huge potential, her ambitious husband Mooney (Tommy Lee Jones) prods her into making a record and going to Nashville. After a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, the record becomes a smash hit, launching her career to super stardom and changing the sound and style of country music forever.

*It doesn't matter if you're a country music fan or not, this is one of the greatest movies ever done. It's powered by one of the truly great acting performances in America Cinematic History!!*
Sissy is Speack
Sissy! Her performance is mint gold!
💩
It does matter if you like country music...
Very well stated". 🌹
I think Sissy definitely deserved an Oscar for her performance; however, I feel Tommy Lee certainly deserved one too. His performance was just as worthy.
On the contrary, her performance was profoundly more, & most likely played a substantial part in her winning the Oscar, bcz she actually sang Loretta Lynn’s songs in the movie. A superbly exception film!
🏆💫
4:18 when they start conversing and arguing😆
I agree, he was great in what was a very hard part.
Being from the hills of Kentucky I can tell you this movie doesn't get any more real. One of my all time favorites.
🇹🇳💛💚🍁⚘🍁✌🏽☮🌏☮👋
you would know we love the movie and Sissy so
For sure daunt git no bedder ..as we southern raised children would say. LOVE the REALNESS
My momma is a Coal Miner's Daughter she said the movie is accurate she was raised just like that
My favorite biopic, too. My sister in law is from a holler in KY.
She joined the army - and gained weight during boot camp!
My mom and I used to watch this together. She passed away but not without me singing "Coalminers Daughter " for her on her birthday. ❤
Hello Angela how are you doing today
I used to watch this with my daddy.
Sissy mentioned on an interview that Tommy Lee came up with taking his foot and putting it on the guitar it was just genius
Hugs. I had a special moment with my dad the day he died . When I was younger before the children were adopted out ( We all kept in touch" I remember him singing "Rhinestone Cowboy". My sister was with him when he passed away. But before he did, I talked to him on the phone and we sang "Rhinestone Cowboy" , together. He passed away an hour later.
I watched this with my mother also,
she passed away almost 2 years ago
I want to watch this movie again ❤
Rest in peace to Loretta Lynn…Sissy Spacek did you well in this movie!
I love how when she starts singing, you see that song everybody's loud, and not necessarily listening to her at first. But by the end, everybody quiet, listening, and enjoying, her singing.
That’s a good sign - I’ve been on the right side of that a few times
It flys under the radar, too. I tend to not even notice that, cause I'm just listening to Sissy.
When she kicked that washing machine I laughed 😂 so hard.
😆💗
And kept right on singing. Something tells me she kicked it all the time. 😂
*Loretta singing*
The washing machine: Gonna stop here to listen this song.
*Loretta kicks it*
The washing machine: Ouch!! Ok, ok. There's no need to beat me ;-;
Sissy's voice acting is unreal.
Truly!!! I’m from the Appalachia and I feel like there’s a fine line between overacting/inaccurate southern accents and properly leaning into the accent and she does it so flawlessly…… the way she says “fighting” as “fiehtin” and “you” as “yew” is really natural sounding to my ear
Well deserving of the Oscar.
One of my favorite scenes in the film, where Sissy Spacek recreates the entertainment power of Loretta Lynn. It takes her a minute and a half, but she transforms the bar patrons from a group who are smoking, drinking and talking into a group of people who are listening to her.
very surprised this was before BACK ROADS with Sally Fields
He really stuck to believing in her and pushed her into her singing career that’s love!
He also married a child and raped her on the first night instead of preparing her and hit her a few times in the documentary about her life lol that wasn't love. Maybe he changed later, but as an abuse survivor that's not love.
Love? He was a total abusive ass who forced her to do whatever he wanted her to.
Had a hard time watching this movie as a young man had a particular rental place where u rent videos and one day I walked and had never seen them damn folks again he um said try youngguns
@@su-rv2uq Not to mention a nonce too
Sissy deserved that award she got for this movie, she sounded so much like Loretta that me a life long fan of Loretta couldn't tell them apart. After all, she did spend a year shadowing Loretta.
I always thought she was lip syncing to Loretta
@@PeridotLioness85 Nope. Sissy sang the Loretta songs herself. Heck, even Beverly D' Angelo sang the Patsy Cline songs when she portrayed her.
@@JasonNation72 Yes I know. I meant at 1st I thought she was.
She spent about 3 weeks with Loretta Lynn in a motel room. Learning to sing and memorizing the lyrics to many of Loretta's song's.
No, Sissy Spacek sang the songs herself and, At the end of the movie during the credits that was Loretta singing her hits!
Doo is doing the dishes! As I live and breathe! this was a phenomenal movie. Loretta's birthday is almost here!
He was counting the dollar signs.
What a beauty Spacek was. And what a voice!
She did Loretta Lynn great tribute in this movie.
And...rest peacefully, Miss Lynn. ❤
We all love you.
Simply the best musical biopic ever made. Thanks for posting this!
RIP Loretta Lynn. This is my favorite biopic.
Sissy Spacek a woman of immense talent I watched this because of Carrie and was intrigued.
Coal miners daughter to the Queen of country music. She had a husband that believed in her and tenacity to accomplish the goal.I grew up loving her music,I even loved her Crisco commercials. That chicken looked good too.RIP sweet lady. You will be missed but never forgotten.Im sure Conway Twitty was eagerly waiting to say it one more time"Hello Darlin"nice to see you, It's been a long time.
Sad day but so lucky were were blessed having Loretta in our lives. RIP fine lady!! I hope CMT airs this classic tonight. This movie is one of the best ever and Sissy did an outstanding job playing Loretta.
I wasn't raised in the country but I do respect the struggle that Loretta and Dolittle Lynn came through to make a better life for their family, through hard work and God given talent. R I P Miss Loretta Lynn. 🙏🏼
Brilliant acting from Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones. RIP Loretta Lynn.
I watched this the day after Loretta Lynn's death and I have to say this movie has held up really well with time. I totally forgot about Levon Helm playing Loretta's dad. I'm so used to him being behind a drum kit and being the lead singer of The Band. RIP Levon and Loretta
I am an almost 58 year old (next month) Black man, that has survived many life challenges in my life. This IS (in my opinion) THE Best movie ever... I fell in Love with this movie back in 1980-81, when it debuted on "cable"... My parents had seen the movie in the theater, so when it was "brought out" of the theaters My sister's and I couldn't wait to see it... I know every word, song and sound effect of this masterpiece...
Every actor, director, producer etc deserved recognition... From Sissy Spacek "Loretty" (as pronounced by her nextdoor neighbor, when her father dies and he has to be the one to inform her) to Tommy Lee Jones "Doo, short for Doolittle Lynn to Beverly D'Angelo "Patsy Cline " (Loretta Lynn's Best Friend) all the way down to the little boy that played her son... PHENOMENAL
Is and always will be my FAVORITE MOVIE EVER
If you were raised in the country like I was in Tennessee you really understand what the movie is about. Loretta never forgot where she came from. I am glad that she and Doolittle worked with the writer so he got Coal Miner's Daughter right. The director Michael Apted was really great. Tommy Lee was also a country boy from Kentucky and he got it. Sissy did a great job playing Loretta and won a Global Oscar. It's a really good movie.
Sorry to tell you. However, Tommy Lee is a Texas boy.
@@Elijahhaswings I know he is from Texas but in his interview with Michael Apted he talks about going back to Kentucky and Tennessee so I did some reading and found that Tommy was raised there. It's the interview that is on the disc of the movie Coal Miner's Daughter.
You boys stop fighting and listen to me sing!
One of my most favorite musical sequences in Movie History. Ain’t nothin in this world like real Country Music, gives me chills.
Rest well sweet angel, I really loved and appreciated your music, style, and your determination to make it. I was named after your sister. We love you Loretta. 1932-2022.
Sissy Spacek was perfect for the role great actress not stuck up like so many today
It is impossible to see Sissy Spacek and not think about Carrie!
She played a very good role starring as Loretta Lynn! I love Sissy and also Loretta!🎤🎼🎵🎶 R.I.P.🙏 🕊🕯
Best movie ever!!! Sissy Spacek's voice is beautiful!
Loretta was one of two best ladies the history of country music and of all time. RIP Loretta. We miss you darling. Amen.
This is by far one of my favourite movies of all time. I’ve seen it hundreds of times..lol. I just love it! Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones are as perfect for these roles as perfect gets. 💕
This movie along with Spacek and Beverly DAngelo set the standard for singers bio-pics. It took me years to see this movie because I wasn't a country western music fan but after I did I was blown away at the performances. You don't have love country music to like this movie.
doug avila: That’s very true, I’m not a fan of country music but this is one of my favorite movies. Sissy Spacek was phenomenal in this.
We have a lot to be Thankful for Our Great Country Western Performers. They have gave us great entertainment. God Bless one and all of our Country Western Stars. God Bless, Be Safe. God Bless America, the Land I Love ❤

My parents & I saw this in the theater years ago,It was great movie ❤❤
"Dude, sometimes I think you got a washer missin' in your brain, I can't play that thing!" Perfect.😄
WARSHER :)
Not 'dude'. She's calling him 'Doo', short for his nickname Doolittle.
it's Doo
You're right. It sounded like she was saying "dude" for some reason. Guess I need to get my ears checked.😁
Doo!
I love country music it is my favorite song ever
I could watch this movie every single day ❤️
My favorite movie ever. I had it on VHS, then DVD. Now streaming.
Sissy knocked this out of the park.
I was a boy when this aired and I became an admirer of Loretta Lynn!
I love the way he pushed her, believed in her, loved her and how he was such a restless soul..get bored, make your wife a country legend, build a house, a great movie and a country legend!
What a coincidence. I just watched this a few days ago. It was great.
This film is a miracle. Spacek is a miracle.
Loretta Lynn was the greatest miracle of all of them.
I just love this movie Loretta is a great lady she came from nothing she made something out of her life she's proved no matter how poor we are we can pull ourselves up and make something out of herself love you always God bless you
Her mom prayed over her, when, she would read the tea leaves in her tea, there was also something where Loretta or her mom found a 4 leave clover and pressed it in her Bible, it’s in the book, and, Loretta’s mom wanted her to make something of her life and, get away from a life of coal mining because, if she didn’t her mom said, I know she wouldn’t have very much of a life, she believed Loretta could make something out of her life!
I never for get her she live on in my heart till the Lord comes and takes me Shalom Loretta Lynn R.I.P. till we meet again God Bless your family , may Jesus Christ heal there ❤'s with much Love , peace Yes , Amen
I absolutely love this biography of Miss Loretta Lynn, who will always be the Queen of Country Music❤🎼. She was a beautiful lady. My idol. Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones were perfect. The music just makes me smile. I sing along every darn time I watch this.
My parents and I live in Kentucky and we wanna watch this movie.
I'm from Hawaii and sing country music myself but on a ukulele she was always my fan💯
I absolutely love this movie. This is one of the best scenes...but then again they're all good. This movie never gets old.
I just love this movie! Just as much as I love Ms. Loretta Lynn. ❤️❤️👍🏾👍🏾
I’ll always love this movie
Its a shame that women like this don't exist anymore.
Sissy Spacek was amazing in this movie.
We were so blessed to have such an angel like Ms Lynn rest well
Doo was a damm good man to Loretta
God Bless His Soul
There were times he was, and times he was not. Is willingness to take care of the kids when he was home while his wife practiced her guitar is really great of him, that’s for sure.
lmao did you watch the whole movie?
@@birdwife589 yup its one of my favorites
Okay but he was 21 and she was 15 when they had their 1st kid and he married her when he was 14

Sissy Spacek is so beautiful.
They chose the right person to play Loretta Lynn
That's because Loretta Lynn picked her herself!
R.I.P.
MY MOMMA LOVED YOU .
BLESS HER SOUL
And the rest as the saying goes, is history. Loretta Lynn Rest in Blessed Peace.
Phenomenal performance from both, but especially Spacek as she goes from age 15 when she marries Doo to her late 20's here in the honky tonk. The entire movie she aged 15 to 40-ish. With nothing more than hair change and posture, speech.... incredible!
I love this movie,,the washing machine..growing up we had one of those..
RIP Loretta Lynn (1932-2022)
I just love it when the notifications “someone liked your comment” or “you got a new subscribers” it makes me happy 🤗
Hope it made you happy :)
I went to Kentucky to see my best friend went down to his mom and family was a great time we went to Loretta Lynn's cabin in butcher holler I had the pleasure to meet Loretta Lynn's brother Herman Webb I and him took a picture of him and his dog together thanks to my friend my late wife and my son going down. Still have that picture of Herman Webb myself and his dog at my house it was Easter of 1997 I had vacation from my washing machine plant whirlpool corporation was a a memorable time the people I met were wonderful they didn't want me to leave I had to get back to my job though a memory I will cherish forever 💖🙏✝️👍😁💖
Such a great movie, I watch every time it's on TV ❤
3 years in Kentucky in the early 90's. This movie was a staple every other week. Good times.
R.I.P Loretta Lynn...
I watched this again yesterday and damn Apted made a fantastic film. Those slow zoom-ins on Sissy as she wins over the crowd is just so good. It still holds up. RIP Loretta.
What amazed me is she did all the singing as well as Beverly D'Angelo as Patty's Cline..yet when they did Sweet Dreams they went with a name & dubbed her voice..
And was a terrible movie in comparison. No mentioning of Lynn in that film which made no sense.
@@CaptainSpalding72 the quality of the movie was not the issue..the quality of the singing was & both earned a lot of respect for that
"Most people can't without they first learn how."
I love that line.
I watch this movie so many times, I can recite it. A must see.
When Jake and Elwood were on a mission, Loretta stole our hearts.
