  • This video is a reply to requests from my friends, colleagues and fellow RUclipsrs to explain - do you need a desktop PC or are you perfectly fine working on a laptop.
Keep in mind this is very limited office / study oriented scenario. There are a number uses where you not only need a desktop but you need a much more powerful one than in this video. It all depends on what you use it for.
Desktop PC used here was Dell Optiplex 7070 while laptop is Dell Latitude 7390. Both have i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and an SSD storage. More details on CPU in the video.

At the office we only use laptops and docking stations. I can grab my laptop and take it anywhere, but when I am at my desk, I just plug it in with one usb cable, which charges it, and connect it to my dual display setup+external keyboard+mouse.

Hi. Matter of preference really. Most users don't need speed bump from desktop PC and opt for laptop for convenience.

@@Edsdrafts Yeah. We used to have only desktops for years, but our bosses realized, we would be more effective with the laptop+docker setup, and yes we are. I work in a huge automotive factory, and it is really convenient to carry around my rig (lenovo t490+logi 3s).

    I’ll say laptops.
Imagine having an office business center, and a break in occurs overnight. They will take the desktop computers. But if you have your laptop, it can be with you at home and your work is saved. Only thing that should be inside offices are monitors and dock station that would be inexpensive to recover than Desktop computers!

Hi. Having worked and supported office environment I would always go for desktops. They are faster, more reliable, much easier to maintain and upgrade and usually cheaper to purchase to boot.
Regarding break ins - unless your office literally has a bay for a truck and is in the middle of nowhere with no alarm - no one in their right mind will rob desktop PCs from it. Trust me, I had a break in, all was taken were laptops and funny enough anything was of any value in people's drawers, on and under desks.
Thing with desktops is they are bulky, heavy and brings very little profit when sold of. In fact these days rarely anyone would bother with them.
As for laptop safety if you have one on you on public transport, hotel, coffee place etc. you are just likely to get it picked from you or simply forget it behind.
Laptops are better simply for mobility reasons. That's about it.

Normal laptop is better than normal desktop for office works.

Hi. Work or mobility? If work I disagree as desktop is much faster, can easily be repaired and upgraded by onside techs and generally less costly. It is usually quieter under load but takes more space depending on office layout and placement. Laptop is good for moving around the place and taking work on the go, that's about it.
