I served 25 years in the U.S. Navy am now in Real Estate and other things - the one constant is that I deal with "people everyday". As I rose through the ranks in the Navy - studying leaders and interacting with people; I quickly learned that the people who succeeded were those who "opened their mouths strategically". You have to learn the art of communication, small talk, bullshitting. As the old saying goes: "CLOSED MOUTHS DON'T GET FED". Ask for what you want and don't be afraid; be BOLD; what's the worst that can happen?

there is a huge difference between nice and bold. in no book in the world it is mentioned that you cant be both. you can be nice where its needed to be nice, you need to be soft where you needed to be soft, and you need to be ball-buster tough mf where you nee d to be that. I am always nice and very soft person, but in my business and where I need to be, i can be the toughest mf you can ever find on this earth.

Most women in the western world today are trash. They are NOT worth asking out at all. Let's not be naive or stupid, and face the reality of the darkening times in which we are living. The best approach for a man today is to become the best man he can possible become and NEVER ask out a woman. Grow spiritually, become educated, and find your true self as a man. Let women approach you. Women have no choice but to approach good, ambitious men, if she wants her future to be happy and bright. An ignorant man will ruin her future, and which sane woman wants that to happen. Be patient and grow; even if the growth is slow, grow!

Great video. This confirmed a lot of what I've learned in my career the hard way. I've worked in automotive for 11 years and can tell you that being nice only works until your suppliers let you down. At that point I stop asking and assertively start telling suppliers what to do. I've had suppliers tell my boss I'm not nice but you know what? it got the job done. Like Pat has said before, it's all about managing expectations. When you assert yourself your suppliers will eventually learn you're not messing around.

Love it. Here's how I'd get to the 'middle ground' assertive side: Being nice/quiet = fear of rejection or disapproval. Pestering = attachment to having something or someone saying yes. Work on letting go the fear of rejection, disapproval, getting a 'no'. And also work on letting go of attachment/neediness for something happening or any one person saying 'yes'. Great video Patrick 👍

I'm a (nearly) 38 man. One of the biggest lies society has told me is to be "nice" and that good things will come to you if you're "nice." The main point in this video, along with ideas proposed by Jordan Peterson, has helped me transition my way of thinking from attempting to be "nice", to being polite. And there is a difference. A nice person will not ask the waiter or waitress to bring back his undercooked steak for fear of bothering him or her, or may be afraid to bring it up because he doesn't want seem like "that guy". A polite person will call the waiter or waitress over and politely ask him or her to correct the situation. So, be assertive, speak up, and speak out. But don't be nice! ❤

If you die tonight, do you know where you're going? Did you know that Jesus Christ is THE Truth, the life and the only way to Heaven?
Revelation 20:15 ''Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.''
Through Jesus Christ, God offers you a FREE gift - forgiveness. All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways,
from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him.
      Biblical explanation of the Gospel:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23)
The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). Since we have all sinned, we all deserve hell.
Revelation 21:8 says that all liars will go to hell. Yes, even if you have lied once in your life, you are sentenced to hell - that's how
high God's standards are of moral perfection because God is holy and righteous, there is not one sin in Him.
For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ
      - for He lived a sinless life, died on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). Our carnal mind is hostile to God; it does not submit
to God's moral law and it never will (Romans 8:7). We hate the thought of God for the same reason a criminal
hates a policeman - we know we have sinned against God and are guilty of it and we don't want to be damned.
No good works will ever save you. You can't earn salvation by good works, because God will judge us for our sin.
Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life and He died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16)
We aren’t saved by our good works, but only by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -
not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Jesus said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30) just before He died on the cross, which means He paid the fine for our sins
(past, present, future) to be forgiven only IF we repent and trust in Him.
This is how you can get saved from sin and hell - repent of your sins and trust in Jesus Christ. Get to know Him
      by reading God's Word.
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:13)
''What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!'' (Romans 6:15)
''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out'' (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is a turning away from sin and all evil works, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8).
Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin.
While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10).
Do not play a hypocrite. ''God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.'' (1 John 1:5-6)
(John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
If you have repented and have genuine faith in Jesus Christ then you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit and be born-again spiritually.
When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance
until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
''You will know them by their fruits'' (Matthew 7)
If you have been truly born-again with the Holy Spirit and He has regenerated your heart, you will desire righteousnes -
to do what is good and righteous in God's eyes, to seek God everyday in His Word and prayer, to strengthen your relationship with God.
You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace

      Etymology of Nice:
      nice (adj.)
late 13c., "foolish, ignorant, frivolous, senseless," from Old French nice (12c.) "careless, clumsy; weak; poor, needy; simple, stupid, silly, foolish," from Latin nescius "ignorant, unaware," literally "not-knowing," from ne- "not" (from PIE root *ne- "not") + stem of scire "to know" (see science). "The sense development has been extraordinary, even for an adj." [Weekley] -- from "timid, faint-hearted" (pre-1300); to "fussy, fastidious" (late 14c.); to "dainty, delicate" (c. 1400); to "precise, careful" (1500s, preserved in such terms as a nice distinction and nice and early); to "agreeable, delightful" (1769); to "kind, thoughtful" (1830).
NEVER be "nice"(foolish), be kind, be courteous, be helpful. But, never let anyone take you for a fool!

You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace
revealed to us through the death and resurrection of His Son.
''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' (2 Corinthians 5:17)
''For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.'' (Eph 2:10)
You will have a testimony - of what your life had been before and how has it changed now when you have surrendered it to Lord Jesus Christ.

''And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body,
but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,'' (1 Peter 3:21)

It comes down to being personable and socially calibrated. Some people prefer to be accepted by others than take a stand for their beliefs. They want to avoid conflict at all costs, which can lead them to miss out on opportunities. As long as you maintain your self-respect and respect others, it’s a healthy form of conversation. People will respect you for having self-respect and taking a genuine interest in them with the intent to connect with them.

I like to be rational as a foundation so I am not stupid when I assert. I like to build alliances and listen for a long time so that my assertions are smart if not wise, like low hanging fruit. Questions are the way to go. I plan to speak at the next city council meeting in December and ask why no street repairs in my city.

50% agree with Patrick. The problem with nice guy they have anxiety issus both socially and psychologically which lead to a lack of self esteem. There a huge distinction between self esteem and self confidence. Self esteem is associated with internal values and self confidence is associated with competence. In the case of pestering individual the also have self esteem problem but they give the illusion that are assertive, huge ego problem, lack of humility (e.g, they don't admit there mistake). Being rational is not assuming. Being rational is simply having critical thinking on certains situations that requires a high cognitive effort.

I am a 20yo with alot of ignorance in alot of topics but one thing I can say with confidence is that I have more life experience then the majority of other guys my age. I’ve traveled all over the country, mostly through soccer tournaments, and after hs, with the support of my parents, I saved money from my first job at Wendy’s so I could afford to live in Mexico and pursue a dream of becoming pro one day. I lived in Mexico on my own for a little under a year experiencing almost everything you could imagine a 19 yo living alone in a different country could experience. Now I’m back in my hometown working hvac with my dad . I have ambitions and I wanna keep working towards bettering my life and those around me lives aswell. I wanna keep learning so If there’s any mentors out there looking for a committed person I’ll be them. The pursuit of becoming pro has gone and In its place is the pursuit to Improve in all aspects as possible. Thank you and I hope you all have a blessed day 🙏🏽

As a Landlord, my goal is _not_ to sell an apartment to a person, couple or family. I'm confident in my products and services (rentals and repairs), so I see myself floating between confident, rational, assertive and occasionally, challenging. I'm confident and rational, but I have no choice but to be assertive about lease agreements, contractual obligations and challenging when I take someone to court for an eviction. *Pestering - NEVER.* I do *not* chase people for their rent. *Tenants have a 5-day grace period. Day 6 I'm sitting in the parking lot of the DJ's Office ready to file for eviction.*

It's better to be a good and authentic person than it is to be a nice person. Strength in one's life leads to a greater experience. Good people don't let others walk all over them, "nice" people many times put themselves last and end up not getting their needs met.

Reading this title reminded me of a book written back in 1993 called “Nice guys don’t get laid”
A tongue-in-cheek synopsis of the dating scene - one man's point of view of what women are attracted to and what they are not. Biting, humorous text accompanied by slick pen and ink line drawings, featuring popular hot spots. Highlights feature a Nice Guy test complete with celebrity examples and complete descriptions of three types- Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. Average and Mr. Abuse.

It's like the old saying, "It never hurts to ask, the worst answer you can get is just the word no." You miss every shot you don't take is also a truism. However, being a "nice guy" means that you are a moral person. To be a moral person means you have a personal set of rules of action and interaction that others view as admirable, that you choose to live by and refuse to break of your own volition. It doesn't make you bashful, fearful or afraid to speak, that mindset is actually covered by the word timid. You are right in that timid is often self-defeating, but to be a nice guy requires boldness and self-confidence, and you can possess all the traits all the way to hard-core and still be moral, without the necessity of being a jerk. Jerks CHOOSE to be abusive; they aren't that way by necessity.

Most so called "nice guys" are actually fake nice(the ones who get friendzoned) and or are cowards. That doesn't mean a guy can't actually be nice and a guy but that "nice guys" is something else like how "martial arts" is different from "martial" and "arts" in many cases(Taekwondo has nothing to do with war). Nice is usually defined as "polite or kind" and we can be both polite and kind, or actually be nice, without being a chump or a coward
