Yes mate, i've Religiously done 5,000km changes since ive had the hilux but seeing pentite diesel sitting at $130 for 10ltr, im changing to 10,000km. Put in my KAON 7mm EGR plate last weekend. Thanks for your advice mate. 👍
Hmmm, despite the engine not being that clean internally (soot not removed from intake) and the naughty atmo venting of the crank gases, people get caught up on opinions that in many cases, suck. It's simple for me, pull the dip-stick, clean it, re-insert then pull again. Look at oil, if very dark with soot, time to consider a change. Put oil on fingers, rub it between fingers and rub, if you know what ya doing, you feel if oil is breaking down and if you smell it, take note of the smell. If smells burnt or has fuel in it, replace and investigate. My changes are roughly 10-15K intervals depending on time of year and when I can change (time to do so and when away on work trips). Nearly 500 thousand kays on the ZD and oil at 10K still passes light through it.
Anthony another good video. My 07 1kd auto 310k gets fresh Penrite 10 40 oil every 10k. Work round trip 140k daily. To open another can of worms I was told that oil only has a life expectancy of 5k But mine seems to hold up with the 10k change. Keep putting the videos out mate as I have lots to learn!
3 petrol prado’s and I only ever did oil n filter every 10k using genuine filter and oil from Toyota 10w30 off the shelf. I also have pictures of the internals. Unfortunately I can’t post the pics on here, but is spotlessly clean.
I always wonder why they never take the EGR from downstream of the DPF filter and if in fact that would make much of a difference as far as soot loading in the intake....
I've got a 2001 f2shity 7.tree diesel...its got 780 thousand miles all original. Still stroking and purrs like a kitten 😸... I changed the oil every 5 thousand miles..oil changes are cheap motors are not...
This will shock the oil barons! I used to have a Hilux & changed to a Navara in 2005, got bad service so stopped servicing at 70,000km in retaliation for being lied to by the service department. It has now done 430,000km & only ever had the oil changed about 5 times in 18 years. Never replaced any parts until 423,000, except steering bushes, break pads a few times, & recently a clutch bearing that had completely worn out, but plates were still over 5mm thick. I thought people might be interested to see the other extreme of very few oil changes. Surprisingly i used to be a service bay mechanic & do not recommend this for others engines, but it has been an amazing experiment. I have a mate with the same car & he services every 10,000 or so & his engine is noisy & clacky while mine still sounds like the day i bought it. He has done many repairs & ive done none. Interesting hey.
Would be interested to see what it looks like under the cover and in the oil pan. How do u drive? Aggressive or gentle? Any load on the vehicle or big wheels etc. Not that it's something I'd ever do but just interested since you have done it! 😅
I change the oil every 5,000km without fail. What is the cost of an oil/filter change compared to a premature engine replacement? So, it's ok to change the oil every 5,000km and filter every 10,000?
Just ordered kaon egr plate, so i have it ready to go, need to order some injectors from you soon as hoping to do injectors soon as well. At 195k now, on my 2011 prado but too much other shit on the go, can't afford the downtime to do injectors. But fingers xed i can get the injectors and egr plate done before i hit 205k,
Hey Anthony. Any chance you could do a pre trip video. Eg - what we need to check, what we need to do service wise & what we need to take with on the trip. Cheers, Brad. Ps - love the info
No dout the 1kD is a good engine the EGR is easily restricted but I think we should be looking to the future the 1GD is the new generation engine i have a 2022 Hilux go's great shouldn't we be looking at the EGR on this engine plates no longer available for this engine to many engine lights I believe or change oil 5000km a feel we have heard plenty on the 1kd would love to hear more on the 1gd.
Yep. Have the 16/17 model. 280,000K. Oil and fuel cleaner every 5K, filter once a year. 7.8-8 L/100klm hypermiling or 8.8-9 L/100k average. Does 1023Klm to full empty tank. Use good 0 or 5W oils. Write in logbook. Nobody tells me anything about the injectors.
I’m a bit confused. There is no mention of an EGR blanking plate on this engine, but what was mentioned that the computer is turned off. In my way of thinking, if there is a blanking plate then soot cannot possibly dirty the EGR throat, EGR valve. So if the EGR had been cleaned at the same time the plate went in, then the EGR throat and EGR valve should be spotless. Is this correct? I’m thinking that the EGR throat and valve was already dirty when the plate was fitted. But again I’m not sure if a plate was fitted on this one..,therefore I’m thinking it was only turned off on the program (ECU). Gee the head looks clean, nice. I really like finding out about engine wear and their maintenance history especially if it is a one owner. I only do my changes at 10,000 due to the frequency being always less than 6 months and most driving is highway. If I did a lot of short or stop start driving I would do the changes at 5000. I always add a flush the trip before dropping the oil. I also use an Anti-wear additive.
Egr is what 10% at low loads? Engines make combustion emissions in the cylinder it's going to blow by already. I doubt egr will make any difference to oil. It is worth turning off for the intake caking up.
I have a leak by my oil cooler/filter housing. Recently, I discovered coolant leaking from that area as well. Seems like it's coming from a top bolt. Any idea if the leak is coming from the oil cooler housing or the head?
Antony i have 2016 Hilux N80 1KD engine, South Africa model so no DPF etc, i do around 1000KMs a month, was using Castrol Magnatec and drained every 5000kms, I'm now on around 47,000KMs, yesterday I've switched to Liqui Moly Leichtlauf HC7, definitely smoother and quieter than Magnatec, I'm planning to go with it upto around 8000KMs however I'll check the oil at 5000KMs to see. Do you think that's good?
I drive a 2007 D4d South African. Do around 2700km a month mostly highway driving. I change oil and oil filter every 8000km (5000 miles) which is every 3 months. I change air filter and diesel fuel filter every 10km . Every 4 months. The vehicle is running well , giving me 8.1liters / 100 km odo sitting on 310k km.
likely never going to see or answer but i'll ask anyway, should oil flush addatives be used ? do they actually work? yes i've watched many videos, still going, i'm new to diesels learning a lot! from you, haven't seen any questions on oil flushes? yet .... anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge, thanks for the kaon heads up.... 👍👍👍
You'll find a video on additives/flushes in the playlists. However, if you service regular and change oil the general consensus is they're not needed. Oils these days have cleaning additives to keep everything clean. Don't waste your money on them.
Interesting info. Every 6 to 7 thousand k's oil and filter changes. It's still cheaper than an engine replacement 🤔 👌 👍 ✌️ 😎 🇦🇺 🍻

Buy the oil when it's on special. Repco has 7 litres of Nulon full synthetic diesel oil for $69 at the moment. Buy it cheap and stock up.

2006 1KD didn’t have an egr cooler.

Toyota petrol engines can go 10k miles on synthetic as long as it’s mostly highway miles. If it’s around town 5-7k
Thanks badabing! ❤

I think you’ll find I’ve done dozens you need to check the service inspection playlist
Hahaha!
I have an engine with spark plugs and still change the oil frequently😅.
What’s peoples views on an engine flush?
Another good educational video.

I run full synthetic Castrol edge on a V8 Ford 5.4 L I change it every 5000 km. The thing is Mickey Mouse never had an issue

Double oil change with a few litres of cheaper oil if you are keen.
Top Dog OIL... Gulf Western.. Oh yeah still talking under concrete..LOL
I feel the EGR system is purely planned obsolescence.
People's eat maccas and worry that a NOx is a health risk 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Change your oil at least every 30kms
Yeah I must admit I change oil somewhere in between 7k and 9 😂
Catch can would fix that
