I Died Listening To This Song.. just after the middle 8, where they say 'We're Gonna Fly', i was hit by a car on my bike at 90kmph. As i was laying on the road, i could still hear the song playing on my walkman (nice one AIWA), I could feel myself fade away as a calm feeling rode over me. I entered into a most brilliant white light, just floating into the white light and the most euphoric feeling, so lush, so beautiful.. It lasted about 30sec when the face of a paramedic came into view.
'Welcome Back, Though I Lost you for a moment' he said smiling at me.. I spent 4 months in hospital.. I died once more on the operating table on the 4th operation, the White Light' lasted longer this time.. Such an amazing feeling, i wont forget it..

'Rocket' was the last single from the 1987 album 'Hysteria'... Sadly, it was the last appearance by Def Leppard's guitarist Steve Clark, who deteriorated into alcohol & drug abuse and passed away in early 1991... Back then, there was no RUclips, so kids like me did not know a lot of those older artists like Mott the Hoople, Slade, David Bowie, etc. when we saw this music video.

What's interesting about Rocket is that it wasn't on the first print of the Hysteria album. It replaced a song called Ring of Fire in the second print. I actually had that first print on cassette. I have no idea what happened to it. I wonder how much that would be worth today, or the record? Maybe the next Def Leppard would be to listen to the song Rocket replaced on the album, Ring of Fire. They are very different songs for sure. Ring of Fire is definitely more of a straight ahead rocker. I would love to see you both react to that one, Jordan and Amber!

What you call "hitting their stride" is what I refer to as morphing into something unrecognizable from the band that recorded their first album. It's hard to believe the band that did, "Wasted", did, "Pour Some Sugar on Me". But hey, Rainbow did, "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Stargazer", then morphed into something that did, "Since You've Been Gone", so it's not unprecedented. You like what they became. Lange's meticulous approach in the studio helped them begin to define their sound". This quote is said like its a good thing. Lange, who over produces everything, steered them into a commercially successful direction. "Define their sound" is more like ruined them creatively. They recorded "On Through the Night" in thirty days. Great album. They worked a year on "Pyromania". "Bringing on the Heartbreak" was the big hit on High 'n' Dry. That song so easily flows into their later work. "Oh can't you see, you got the best of me, oh can't you see, you're bringing on the Pour some Sugar on me". Lange found the commercially successful formula for them. All that was left was, rinse and repeat. The frequent repetition of a commercially successful formula also ruined Judas Priest. If your album collection is threatened by fire, grab "On Through the Night". Let every other Def Leppard album melt in the sleeve. I would say High 'n' Dry is their second best album, but each album they did got progressively worse, so I guess that's a natural assumption. I'll agree to disagree. Thanks for the comment.

My absolute favorite song by Def Leppard. It was my unwritten rule-when this song came on the radio in my car, no matter what-crack the window open and play it as loud as I could stand. Awesome tune! I think there is a longer version though?

I've always interpreted this song as Joe's story of what influenced him, his favorite music and how that classic music is coming through the music he creates to share it with the fans....now let's take a ride on that Rocket of music in a live show. This tour was one of their best. I saw this in '88, Sacramento, CA "In the Round"

This was one of the best reviews and reactions I have seen from you guys. And so on-point. I so enjoy the feedback you give about the drums, Joe Elliott, the riffs of one of my most favorite bands of all time and a huge part of my childhood. It is fun to see J. emanate the joy of listening to and discovery of one of the best bands of all time. Amber is so right on about them having that punchy-almost chant-like cadence to their vocals. And also how they weave together the melodies which take you higher, counterbalanced with that punchy in-your-face rock chorus.

Rocket was on the Hysteria album which came out nearly 35 years ago in August of 1987. It was jam packed with hits. Back then the media was cassette tapes. I wore out several cassettes of Hysteria.
This was the song order. Side 1 - Women (you should react to this song), Rocket, Animal, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar on Me and Armageddon It. All of them were hits.
Side 2 - God's of War, Run Riot, Don't Shoot Shotgun, Hysteria, Excitable, Love and Affection (wasn't released, but was good enough to chart if it had been release). So awesome!

Y’all have done some great songs from Def Leppard. You have gotten through many of their hits. May I recommend some of their early music, as well as some of the songs less heard because they weren’t released as singles. Yet, Jay loves his harder rockin music! The farther back you go, the harder Def Leppard rocks! From High n Dry: Let it Rock, Mirror Mirror, Switch 625, Their debut album: Wasted! (Jay will absolutely love it!), and from Pyromania: Too Late for Love, Die Hard the Hunter, Comin Under Fire, Billy’s Got a Gun (Amber will love Joe’s singing on those last four). You gotta do it!

Also, the drum beat was inspired by the Burundi Beat, used by Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow. I love Adam - his music is fun as heck, and “I want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow is literally ear candy lol

In the 80's the amount of rock I listened to, artists, was not a lot, because I was listening to mostly pop and other stuff, kind of all over the place. But Queen, Def Leppard, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Billy Squire, Pat Benatar, Metallica, AC/DC, Blondie, Van Halen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Smiths and The Cure, that was mostly what I was rocking out to, when I was rocking out.
