This was the one that started it all, in 1984. Believe it or not, this BARELY cracked the Top 40. It wasn't until Slippery When Wet came out when they EXPLODED. You stil have yet to react to "Bad Medicine", "Wanted Dead or Alive", "Never Say Goodbye", "Lay Your Hands On Me", or "Bed of Roses". Any of those would be great!
Yep, and this was recorded with Jon Bon Jovi and not the Bon Jovi band. This was recorded with studio musicians. This hit the air waves and launched him like you said. Then he hired his permanent band.
Bon Jovi have sooo many bangers. "Always", "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "Bed Of Roses", "I'll Be There For You" & my favourite Jon Bon Jovi(solo) "Blaze Of Glory".
This was my late wife's favorite song. She loved the band, and really loved Jon Bongiovi, especially that he married his high school sweetheart and they're still together. Every time I hear Bon Jovi I think of her. Thanks for that!
Jon Bonjovi is a New Jersey native. I met him twice. During the hurricane Sandy here in NJ Bonjovi had helped his home town. And Bonjovi has also helped and advocated in the mental health field in NJ which I have worked for 5 years as a wellness specialist. He's a very nice guy !
This was the song that introduced us to the amazing band BON JOVI. They became the most successful hair band of all-time on the singles chart. They are my 2nd favorite band all-time, next to the Beatles.
Jon Bon Jovi wrote and recorded this with studio musicians when he was just 19 and after it became an unexpected hit, Jon need a band and he then picked the band members that are in the video so they could tour and promote the album. They made it big with “Slippery When Wet”. React to “Wanted Dead or Alive”!!
This is the song that landed Jon Bon Jovi a record deal. He recorded a demo that he physically took to radio stations in NYC. It led to this song eventually being on a local bands record produced by the radio station. That led to a record company offering Jon Bon Jovi a record deal. He then had to assemble a band. For a real shocker, Jon Bon Jovi turns up as a rhythm guitarist in Scandal's 1st version/demo of "Love's Got a Line On You". Recorded before he landed his own record deal. For me the best song off Bon Jovi's 1st record is She Don't Know Me. When I saw that video for the first time & saw him strut down the street singing I was in love. I was 15 and I'm still in love with him at 53. lol
@88teffie, If I'm not mistaken, I think heard someone say once in a documentary about the band that this song broke like top 50 or maybe top 100 nationally before Bon Jovi ever even had a record deal.
Anytime I see Bon Jovi… I’m immediately clicking! Bon Jovi is one of my All-time favorite bands. (Top 3) Living on a Prayer helped me so much when my mother was dying in 1986. Something I love about music is you can interpret and apply it to your life the way you want.
I know this reaction is a year old but after watching it I had to comment on how it brought back memories of me driving my ‘68 Camaro during my senior year in high school in 1984 while playing this song on cassette. Great memories!
Blaze of Glory is the theme from "Young Guns II" perfect song for that movie about Billy the Kid and his Regulators. Wanted dead or Alive is really good too. I used to ride motorcycles quite a bit, and there's a part where he says "on a steal horse I ride", love it,!
In addition I'd suggest they try his second single from that movie, "Miracle." I think I like it a little better than "Blaze of Glory." The lyrics are incredible.
Bon Jovi wrote the song before he had an actual band. He recorded it with local studio musicians whom he designated "The All Star Review"-guitarist Tim Pierce, keyboardist Roy Bittan, drummer Frankie LaRocka, and bassist Hugh McDonald. After it was recorded he was eventually able to get a local radio DJ into playing the song on the air...and basically, the rest is history. 🤟😝
Would love to see you react to Jon Bon Jovi on his own singing "Blaze of Glory" (killer vocals!!) from the movie Young Guns II. Also, some from the band are "Wanted Dead or Alive", "You Want to Make A Memory", 'Bad Medicine".
Oh Lord I was 14 yrs old......omg just turned 50!! How time literally flies.....awesome that y'all found this Bon Jovi song.......on their way to superstardom and fantastic rock music indeed!!!!
In 1985, When I was 15 years old I went to see RATT in concert and at that time I had never heard of the opening band Bon Jovi. They were very good and I recognized the song Runaway from its regular rotation on MTV. Such good times. Needless to say it wasnt long before everyone knew who Bon Jovi was.
I was 15 when I saw this same tour at the Richfield Coliseum near Cleveland, Ohio. It was an epic show, and I would love to see both bands tour together again. Although Bon Jovi would most likely be the headliner this time around.
"She Don't Know Me", "This Ain't A Love Song", "Who Would You Die For", "Wanted Dead or Alive", "Lost Highway", "Always", "Bed of Roses", "Never Say Goodbye", "Bad Medicine", "Born To Be My Baby", "Living In Sin", "In These Arms", "Keep The Faith", "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Wild in the Streets", "Social Disease", "Raise Your Hands", "Dry Country", "Hey God", "This House Ain't For Sale" "I'd Die For You" "If I Was Your Mother" "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" "Let It Rock" "Lie To Me" "Welcome to Wherever You Are" "Without Love" Just to name a few...LOL!
Classic! I saw them in concert this tour. My first concert, I was like 13! My parents just dropped my friend and I off, no cell phone of course because it was the 80's! It was a different world for sure!!
OMG Bon Jovi are the best rock band from the 80's 90's and onwards. All the Women loved them and they were number one in that era whether people want to admit it or not. I have seen them countless times live and I had every one of their albums, and myy walls used to be covered in their posters. Slippery When Wet and New Jersey were my favourite two albums. Def Leppard were my second favourite band, and also had a huge following.
If you guys like their older songs like this, a totally underrated song by Bon Jovi is Only Lonely. It’s from their second album which didn’t get much attention, but it’s one of my personal favorites.
Another great early Bon Jovi songs In Out of Love and She Don't Know Me. Some songs you guys should check out by Bon Jovi; Bad Medicine, Living in Sin, Keep the Faith, Lay Your Hands on Me, You Give Love a Bad Name, Never Say Goodbye, Wanted Dead or Alive, Blaze of Glory, and Always. Hint: If you want to see Amber melt check out Never Say Goodbye and Always.
This song was the number one pick when I went to bars to sing karaoke. That note at the end would always shock people when I hit it. 50 years old now and done with the bars. Can't be young forever. Bon Jovi is an amazing band with an amazing career that spans 3 decades! The guitarist, Ritchie Sambora was an incredible back ground singer who co-wrote songs that harmonized great with John! This band is iconic and the music will never die!
This is actually from 82, when he didn't even have a band. It was just a song demo he was trying to get someone at radio or labels interested in. His first album from 84 is more in the style of metal popular at the time. He was never Slayer heavy, but he definitely dropped metal completely as time went on
Many of you may not know that Bon Jovi lead guitarist Richie Sambora is a very good singer too. He released two solo LP/CD's titled ''Stranger In This Town' and 'Undiscovered Soul'. Two of his real good songs from each of these CD's are: 1) One Light Burning (Long 5:45+ version) and 2) Fallen From Graceland.
I grew up with Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Rush, AC/DC, Magnum, Saxon, Asia, Marillion and so many brilliant musicians (like Mike Oldfield, Clannad, XTC and so many more). They blew my teenage mind! How could I NOT learn guitar after listening to this outstanding talent. Castle Donington (Monsters of Rock) was like a pilgrimage! How about Marillion ('Kayleigh', 'Easter', 'Season's End' or if you want to cry 'Beautiful'). XTC "Senses Working Overtime", New Musik "Living by Numbers", Magnum "Les Mortes Dansant", Clannad "Theme from Harry's Game" or Closer to the Heart", The Pretenders "Back on the Chain Gang" or for fun Middle of the Road "Chirpy, Chirpy Cheep Cheep"!. So much brilliant music. So little time humans live to enjoy it!
I lived three blocks from the drummer 🥁 Tico Torres in Colonia, NJ and in the late 70's every time you'd pass his house you'd hear him bangin' away on his drums in his garage
Original recording of this Jon made at home. He did all the instruments himself and submitted it as a sample. Once the studio said they wanted to hear more, he got the band together.
This song is what started it all. Jon did it before there was a Bon Jovi band and got radio stations to play it. People loved it and requested it so much, he needed to put together a band and thus the start of Bon Jovi and their first albums. I saw them in a small club in Montreal, first time out of the US on a school weekend trip. I fell in love, but no albums to be found, no internet then, then found the next album 7800 Fahrenheit in a record store, psyched I found them, playing it daily. Then Slippery When Wet came out and they exploded.
Played all over MTV in the early 80's. Sambora is a master on the guitar and I believe helped write many of their hits with Jon. And gotz to do BLAZE OF GLORY.
This is the first song that any of us heard from Bon Jovi.....and then he/they came out with the album "Slippery When Wet"....and absolutely BLEW UP!!!
“Never Say Goodbye” was the theme of my prom in 1987! I had seen them for the Slippery When Wet tour just a few months earlier at the San Francisco Cow Palace. That song meant everything to me at the time!
All right my babies.... The first time I seen Bon Jovi was on American Bandstand with Dick Clark! Back then I said to myself, "Oh yeah, this band is going places"‼️😎👍🏼
The guitar solo on this song was done by Tim Pierce. This was done before Bon Jovi was a band and with seesion musicians. Tim Pierce played guitar on a lot of songs, especially through the 80s. He worked with Rick Springfield a lot. He may have done all the guitar work on this song.
Jon is such a sweet guy, still married to his high school gf, never done drugs and all that nonsense, its a rare find especially when being in a rock band. Such a lovely guy and still gorgeous with that beautiful smile.
Yay, Bon Jovi! I remember seeing them on MTV back then and I was an instant fan. They were popular in Japan after their first album was released and it's still one of my favorite albums today. "Burning For Love" and "Shot Through the Heart" are also really good songs from this album.
Jon Bon Jovi has some pipes! The lead guitarist (Richie Sambora) has a great voice too. Want something totally different from Bon Jovi? Check out their "unplugged" cover of "Hallelujah". :)
Yes, this New Jersean ❤️s that you did they're 1st video. Other early greats are "She Don't Know Me" "Wild In The Streets" "In And Out of Love" & "Never Say Goodbye". Liked and shared. Awesome reaction guys 💯
I say the reason it barely charted may have been because in 1984 Van Halen was sucking nearly every bit of the heavy rock and roll oxygen out of the air. That 1984 album was receiving tons of airplay for VH. This Bon Jovi song is so underrated!.
This is where it all started, for them and for me too!! It has always been my personal favorite from them, and it's always on my playlist and always on repeat!! Their very first song and even though it wasn't considered a big hit, it surely paved the way for all the truly amazing songs that followed...
This was Bon Jovi’s first video off their first album, that’s why they looked so young, back when keyboard player David Bryon was still going by his real last name Rushbaum.
This was their first hit from their first album (self titled Bon Jovi album 1984). This was the introduction to the band. They have a lot of hits... Many I love... but this is one of my favorites.
Fun fact: The song Runaway In 1983, local radio station WAPP 103.5FM "The Apple" had a contest, held in conjunction with St. John's University, to search for the best unsigned band. After the song won the contest, it became a radio hit in the summer of 1983.
This was their first hit, song was written by Jon and released as part of a local artist CD by a radio station. The band hadn't been formed till it was picked up and played by KROCK out of NYC
You’re gonna have to check out their hit In and Out of Love!! Ain’t gonna lie, it was my introduction to skinny jeans and boots, to which I still wear today!! The boots of course!! Lol!!!
This was the second song I ever heard from Bon Jovi my intro to Bon Jovi was 99 In The Shade from this same album. My first Bon Jovi album though was Slippery When Wet on cassette! I still rock old school Bon Jovi on my retro playlist. The scream at the end of this song always makes me smile when people hear it for the first time.
There was no band when this song was recorded. There's a great video by Tim Pierce about how he played guitar on this song before "Bon Jovi" was a band. Tim's a great guy in person too.
And immediately fell in love with JBJ. This was IT. I still have this whole album on my phone. “Shot through the heart” off this album is amazing. They re-used the lyric for “you give love a bad name”, but listen to the OG hook.
I once went to a RATT concert and the opening act was an unknown band from Jersey called Bon Jovi touring their first album featuring their single Runaway.
From what I recollect, I'm 50 so when this came out in the 80s, that was a teenager in high school. This is before they hit it big with their Slippery When Wet album. Witch catapulted them to stardom. Seems like you guys loved I'll be there for you with Richie's Sambarro guitar solo.. You should check out Richie Sambarro I'll be there for you live at Madison square garden...
Other than lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, none of the band members in this video actually recorded the song. Jon actually signed a record contract separate from the band, so he is actually in full control. The band signed separately from his deal. For an amazing performance, you should check out the live performance from the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, which was just Jon and guitarist Richie Sambora, sitting on two stools with two acoustic guitars (double neck one for Richie), doing acoustic versions of "Living on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive." Many credit this performance for the creation of the MTV show, "MTV Unplugged" that would start later that year where bands would come in and perform an entire live show all acoustic with just the few fans that could fit in the TV studio. It became a kind of status symbol where you could prove you were a great band by being able to perform acoustically without all the bells and whistles.
Along with Tim Pierce, Hugh McDonald, Frankie LaRocka and Roy Bittan there were additional studio cats on Runaway on backing vocals - David Grahmme and Mick Seeley. Mick created and played the opening keyboard part. As noted earlier, Runaway was recorded in 1982 prior to formation of Bon Jovi. Jon Bon Jovi (John Bongiovi) worked for his brother, Tony Bongiovi, who owned the Power Station studio. Tony produced this track and the subsequent album. The powerhouse that Bon Jovi became, started with their third album, Slippery When Wet, in 1986, produced by, guess who, my favourite local hit maker, Bruce Fairbairn. 🎤🎸🎹🪘🎸🎶😎
This was the one that started it all, in 1984. Believe it or not, this BARELY cracked the Top 40. It wasn't until Slippery When Wet came out when they EXPLODED. All of these!! Classics!
This song flat out cooks....and this one put them on the map~ like you said .
Bed of Roses just hits different with those vocal combination of Jon and Richie. Also, those guitar playing in that song is exceptional.
Yep, and this was recorded with Jon Bon Jovi and not the Bon Jovi band. This was recorded with studio musicians. This hit the air waves and launched him like you said. Then he hired his permanent band.
I thought it was "She don't know me"but I could be wrong 😆
✌️💛✌️
Bon Jovi have sooo many bangers. "Always", "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "Bed Of Roses", "I'll Be There For You" & my favourite Jon Bon Jovi(solo) "Blaze Of Glory".
Nice!..I just jammed Blaze of Glory on the radio driving home!
✌️💛🤘
The entire blaze of glory album is gold. Especially Santa Fe :)
Bed of Roses is chill-making.
Their debut single. This is what got them started.
Try Bad Medicine or Wanted Dead or Alive next from them.
And also Lay your hands on me
This was my late wife's favorite song. She loved the band, and really loved Jon Bongiovi, especially that he married his high school sweetheart and they're still together. Every time I hear Bon Jovi I think of her. Thanks for that!
So sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear about your loss ...for me its unthinkable !

I say the reason it barely charted may have been because in 1984 Van Halen was sucking nearly every bit of the heavy rock and roll oxygen out of the air. That 1984 album was receiving tons of airplay for VH. This Bon Jovi song is so underrated!.
My all time BonJovi song.
This was the very first track on their first album "Bon Jovi" from 1984, released 2.5 years before their big 3rd album "Slippery When Wet" in 1986.
I love it !! That hair OMG. Jon has a wonderful voice. Love how it began. It's was like, hello world, we are Bon Jovi. You will remember us.
Lol!!!
ALWAYS,
BED OF ROSES,
I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU,
BLAZE OF GLORY,
BON JOVI IS AMAZING 🔝
An amazing Bon Jovi acoustic version of Wanted Dead or Alive in 1989 is a must hear!! It's 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Their song Thank You for Loving Me!! Amazing!!
Chef's kiss.
Yeah this was their first tune ever. Check out Dead Or Alive, Lay Your Hands or Bad Name/Bad Medicine. All cracking tunes. 😍
I once went to a RATT concert and the opening act was an unknown band from Jersey called Bon Jovi touring their first album featuring their single Runaway.
When this song came out, this is the song that's I started to fall in love with the band.
*Sambora
Awww baby Bon Jovi!!!!🥰🥰
Check out his duet with Jennifer Nettles, ‘Who says you can’t go home’
This was their very first single off their very first album. Followed up by she don't know me.
the band was Jon Bon Jovi (vocals), Richie Sambora (guitar), David Bryan (keyboards), Tico Torres (drums), Alec John Such (bass)
"She Don't Know Me" is another excellent song off this album.
In 1986, I had the opportunity to see Bon Jovi open up for 38 Special. Their album "Slippery When Wet" had just come out. Pretty cool show!
Bed of roses. Pure magic....
This was what started it all for Bon Jovi!
The members are lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, lead guitarist Richie Sambora, Drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan
This is old school Bon Jovi, was many of us first hearing this band back in the day.
