This was filmed for TV while Def Leppard were promoting their 1983 album 'Pyromania'... Their backing vocals were inspired by Queen. And yes, this was before drummer Rick Allen's accident in 1984. U can also see guitarist Phil Collen was new to the band after replacing founding guitarist Pete Willis (who played on 'Pyromania', but was fired before it was completed).
The blonde guitarist is the late Steve Clark... bassist is Rick 'Sav' Savage.

Joe Elliot, Rick "Sav" Savage, and Rick Allen have pretty much been there from the beginning. Steve Clark played guitar on the first four albums, Pete Willis on the first two, and Phil Collen on everything since Pyromania, the third album. Their fourth album, Adrenalize, was done as a 4-piece, after Steve's death, with Phil playing all of the guitar parts, but playing the parts Steve would have played in Steve's style. Vivian Campbell joined after the release of Andrenalize and has been there ever since. I once read an interview with Joe, where he described the singer from another band asking him what software they used to sample their background vocals on stage. His response, "What do you mean? We do everything live." Loved that.

Phil Collen is the guitarist that was sharing the mic with Joe Elliott. The other blonde is also a guitarist, Steve Clark. He passed away in 1991 (and replaced by Vivian Campbell of White snake afterwards). The bass player is Rick Savage. Rick Allen was known for wearing Union Jack shorts, it was kind of his signature.

Vivian Campbell was the guitarist Dio on the first three Dio albums. He didn't play on any Whitesnake albums.

The entire Pyromania album is flawless. You could pick any song off that album and not go wrong. This is by far, IMO, their best album. The other members are Rick Savage, bassist; Steve Clark, guitar (died in 1991, replaced by Vivian Campbell); and Pete Willis, guitar (fired before Pyro was release and replaced by Phil Collen)

In this video you have the late great Steve Clark on guitars with Phil Collen and then Rick Savage on the bass. Sadly, Steve Clark lost a battle with alcoholism in 1991 and then Def Leppard hired guitarist Vivian Campbell, who rocks out with Phil to this day 🤘 Back in the day though, Steve and Phil were referred to as “The Terror Twins”.
R.I.P. Steve Clark, the riffmaster ❤️

The interaction between lead vocal and background is sometimes referred to as "Call and Return". Def Leppard's producer and then official band member, Mutt Lange, added it alot to massive effect.
"Make Love Like A Man" is a prime example of this endeavor.

This band is my absolute favorite! I first saw them on Top of the Pops in the early 80’s via a friend of mine from ScotlandThey have endured and conquered SO much! They supported and tried to help him Steven Clark although they couldn’t help him, they supported Rick Allen when he lost his arm and support Vivian Campbell through his cancer. If THAT isn’t brotherhood, I don’t know what is! They are an inspiration to us all! ❤️

One of two concerts that I went to, that it was a miracle I made it. Both in convertibles that were barely running. The other was Van Halen. Both great concerts. It was Def Leppard, Krokus, and Gary Moore (from Thin Lizzy).

There's an amazing live video of them in Germany in 1983. Part 1 has 3 songs, and the second song is Billy's Got a Gun. Please check that song out. If you wanna see Def Leppard in their prime perform live before all the stuff happened to them, throw it up on your channel. Stay well folks!

I got this album (Pyromania) on cassette tape when it first came out and I played it in my car until the tape was worn out. This song was a favourite, not that there were any bad tracks on the album. Def Leppard (and Mutt Lange) know how to deliver a great album. I'm very grateful for digital formats now which you can't wear out.

IMO, On through the night, High n Dry and Pyromania were their best albums. They were a guy's band, and from Hysteria on, they became a young girls band. That's just how I felt.
