    I've seen this video of Umberto tying this fly many times since it first came out. It's now May 2024 and I'm watching it again. Never get tired of watching Umberto's fly tying skills !

    Far the best fly tying video I've ever seen.
    A gift for the senses and the soul.
    Thank you so much for sharing it.
    My best wishes from Argentina

    That is as good as a Catskill dry fly can get. Very well done!

    This may be the most beautiful dry fly pattern.
    You have done a perfect job of keeping it real.
    Also, again, the slide is also very beautiful.

    Absolutely beautiful tie. Great space at head and I love the way you used that UV resin. Never thought of it myself. I will try it on my dries from now on though. All the best and thanks for sharing. God bless you and yours. Sean

      I use a solarez bone dry, is an ultra thin uv resin, fantastic! I use it to stop the thread before to tie the finishing knot..
      Here you can find it!

    Love your work, such a great finished and polished look to your flies. I've just recently started tying and have been watching your videos in great detail. I fish the catskills so these are the flies I'm attempting to tie, if only they looked as good as yours!! ...maybe in a few years aye! - Keep 'em coming please!

    Lovely... Just wondering, why any specific reason for the full eye length gap behind the eye of hook?

    • @UmbertoOregliniDBTR
      @UmbertoOregliniDBTR  4 года назад +1

      Thank you!! The space behind the eye was needed for tie the turle knot, i like to reproduce classic flies like they did them in the past!

    Forgot to ask: what thread are you using here and on your other dry flies?

    • @UmbertoOregliniDBTR
      @UmbertoOregliniDBTR  4 года назад

      Hi Allan, i don't remember what thread i'm using in this video but i can tell you that now i'm using only semperfli threads, waxed and nano silk, i think they are the best thread for range of colours and strengthness!

    Is leaving that much exposed shank behind the hook eye a Catskill method or style or just your preference / style?

    • @UmbertoOregliniDBTR
      @UmbertoOregliniDBTR  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Richard! The space behind the hook eye is characteristic of the catskill style flies! Thank You, all the best!

    Wow! Time to wipe up the drool on my chin!! Besides watching your perfection at the vise, would you have any advise on where one go look to get the standards for tying dries such as yours?

  • @seanmooney3907
    @seanmooney3907 8 лет назад +1

    Umberto. do you ever put UV resin on the quill body to strengthen it? If I want the body to be dull like the originals, I put some one and wipe it off a minute later before setting it. there remains enough to strengthen it but not make it shiny. It makes the natural markings more pronounced too. Try it you may like it. Thanks for sharing so many beautiful flies. I have been tying for awhile now, but still love to watch an excellent tier at work. All the best, Sean

      Hi Sean! I do not like so much the UV resins, but sometimes i use the solarez "Bone Cures Dry" an ultra thin uv resin! If you like UV resin you must Try it!! ;)
