There is a special place in my heart for this fascinating piece. I recorded an abbreviated version of this with my dear friend Jaco Pastorius on his masterpiece Word Of Mouth record in 1981, on which it served as a segue. It’s a handful on the electric bass but he played it out of a serious love for the piece. It has lived inside my head ever since.
@@dibaldgyfm9933 Word Of Mouth includes all that was intended, severely marred by several edits which became super apparent after mastering. That’s on me and I would love to repair those but I doubt Warner is interested, sadly. It would take me all of an hour and I would do the work gratis just for the love. I recall the night before sitting on the living room floor of Peter Erskine’s house while he was out of town. We went over all the toughest transitions and fingering alternatives with no amp, rehearsing for hours late into the night. He knew it would be a major challenge. We shared a love for the piece and Bach in general and it really meant a lot to him, being the only ‘flash’ bass on the whole record. The next record was to include a long form symphonic piece. Jaco’s interests had already broadened beyond mainstream jazz and I was very eager to move in that direction. We did several exploratory sessions before disastrous health issues intervened, resulting in the criminal theft of all our 24 track tapes from a studio in NYC.
This performance really surprises me. I never expect human could play such complicated polyphonic music on a 6-string classical guitar. Gorgeous arrangement and performance. Thanks for it!
As a pretty good guitarist of over 30 years who has dabbled a little in Bach, I gotta say its almost too much for the brain to take in,.his techniques and tonality are incredible.
If I could travel in time I would love to bring Mr Bach samples of his music recorded 270 years after his passing, just to sit back and see his reaction. This rendition would certainly be among that material.
Amazing performance. It's no bother to check the original piece I have highly enjoyed your transcription and performance. A huge work have been done here !! My congratulations !!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wonderful performance! Bravo! - for the arrangement and for the playing on a guitar a piece which is so hard to perform even on an harpsichord or a piano! More over: your musicality and interpretation is superb. You have found the delicate sound, the natural flow and right velocity of this piece. I think pianists and harpsichordist should learn from you how to perform it in a non-frantic mode. Thanks for this amazing upload.
A lot of passersby will instantly recognize what an exquisite piece of music this is, but more so than that is Christophe Dejour's phenomenal technique. Wow! Just wow! World class fabulous!
la fantaisie chromatique de bach et ici merveilleusement rendue ! apparament sans lire la partition et avec un fraser parfait . merci ! pierre-xavier de chassot .
This is a precious masterpiece and absolutely touching in the way Christophe Dejour performs it. Heartwarming, soul food, wonderful. I listened almost breathless to the beauty of the performance...merci beaucoup, cher Monsieur Dejour, quelle etonnante maitrise de la guitare classique!
A masterful command of technique and a clean sound in the context of some quite musical and expressive playing. Reminiscent of the Chaconne, these are very effective arrangements/transcriptions for the guitar, as everything seems to lie quite naturally on the fingerboard (although appearances can be deceiving), giving the impression that these works were written for the guitar. Bravo! (on both the transcriptions and on the performance).
Amazing! If I were to hear this without the benefit of the video, I would imagine at least 2 guitarists being involved. An excellent example that seeing - whilst hearing - is believing. What fantastic musicianship. Thank you Sir - I salute you.
23 people disliked this. How anyone could not like this just blows my mind. I'd love to know if any of them are guitar players. I find this absolutely wonderful.
There is often someone clearly affected by the mere fact a viewer would ‘dislike’ a video. Why? For all we know, that person does so just to rile you. Don’t even think about it.
WOW! Gorgeous! After hearing it so many times on piano, this guitar version is so fresh and brings new appreciation of this fantastic composition. And what a fantastic performance. Bravo Mr. Dejour!
Bravo
Beautifully well done. Totally musical in all respects. This composition fits the instrument very well, but it's obvious that it takes many hours, weeks, and years of practice to prefect it. I can't complement you enough.
Not to be believed, this thing BWV 903 has been with me forever, never liked it on the Cembalo, and, here on the guitar and just love it, but, in retrospect, the Cembalo is the one to listen too,
Learning a piece is frustrating, practicing it is repetitive, playing it is amaaazing
This is a great accomplishment, I dare say that Bach would applaud your talent and dedication to this masterpiece
Yes this is a monumental task to attempt on guitar. Brilliant.
wow. I had *no idea* you could transcribe the Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue for guitar. What an absolutely masterful performance. Especially the fugue.
This is the best performance I have ever heard, but I also love Philip Hii's performance; you should check it out.
Congratulations for reinventing Bach' s genius

This performance really surprises me. I never expect human could play such complicated polyphonic music on a 6-string classical guitar. Gorgeous arrangement and performance. Thanks for it!
Did u listen Jorge caballero !?
Players that make it seem so effortless are a joy.
¡De sobra!
Have you heard Philip Hii's arrangement and performance? ruclips.net/video/VSf8O3hbNII/видео.html
@@WindsorPro Philip Hii's performance is impressive for its velocity, but I prefer the melodic character of Dejour's. It's as good as it gets.
Que bien suena Bach con la guitarra española. Fantástico guitarrista.
phenomenal Christoph Dejour!
Brilliant. Pretty much speechless after witnessing that. Amazing.

More than perfect...🤓 Brilliant!!!

Incredible performance! Wonderful arrangement and clarity between all of the voices.
