- Johann Sebastian Bach: Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue (BWV 903)
Guitar Score for sale (price 15$ - 14€ - 100 DKR.)

The piece is originally written for the Harpsichord,
but here in an arrangement for solo guitar made by Christophe Dejour.
Fantasia: 0.08
Fugue: 7.35
Bach probably composed it during his time in Köthen from 1717 to 1723. The piece was already regarded as a unique masterpiece during his lifetime. It is now often played on piano.
It´s not the first time the work has been transcribed for the guitar but this is my modest attempt. The work has a.o. also been transcribed for viola solo by Zoltán Kodály in 1950 and Busoni made two transcriptions for both solo piano and cello and piano, which are catalogued as BV B 31 and 38, respectively.
I play on my brand new Behnam Shirazi guitar (2014) on this video.
I hope you will enjoy the music and the video.
Best regards

Learning a piece is frustrating, practicing it is repetitive, playing it is amaaazing
This is a great accomplishment, I dare say that Bach would applaud your talent and dedication to this masterpiece
Yes this is a monumental task to attempt on guitar. Brilliant.
wow. I had *no idea* you could transcribe the Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue for guitar. What an absolutely masterful performance. Especially the fugue.
This is the best performance I have ever heard, but I also love Philip Hii's performance; you should check it out.
There is a special place in my heart for this fascinating piece. I recorded an abbreviated version of this with my dear friend Jaco Pastorius on his masterpiece Word Of Mouth record in 1981, on which it served as a segue. It’s a handful on the electric bass but he played it out of a serious love for the piece. It has lived inside my head ever since.
Awesome! Im going to check it out.
Jaco was a god. I wish i was alive when he was active.
That was you? Dude.
Can that Jaco Pastorius recording be heard? Did hd play all of it? ❤❤❤
@@dibaldgyfm9933 Word Of Mouth includes all that was intended, severely marred by several edits which became super apparent after mastering. That’s on me and I would love to repair those but I doubt Warner is interested, sadly. It would take me all of an hour and I would do the work gratis just for the love.
I recall the night before sitting on the living room floor of Peter Erskine’s house while he was out of town. We went over all the toughest transitions and fingering alternatives with no amp, rehearsing for hours late into the night. He knew it would be a major challenge. We shared a love for the piece and Bach in general and it really meant a lot to him, being the only ‘flash’ bass on the whole record.
The next record was to include a long form symphonic piece. Jaco’s interests had already broadened beyond mainstream jazz and I was very eager to move in that direction. We did several exploratory sessions before disastrous health issues intervened, resulting in the criminal theft of all our 24 track tapes from a studio in NYC.
As a pretty good guitarist of over 30 years who has dabbled a little in Bach, I gotta say its almost too much for the brain to take in,.his techniques and tonality are incredible.
Que bien suena Bach con la guitarra española. Fantástico guitarrista.
Magnifiques les changements de timbres sans parler de l interprétation... WoW
This is divine! please go on recording music! especially unheard pieces of Bach on guitar!
This performance really surprises me. I never expect human could play such complicated polyphonic music on a 6-string classical guitar. Gorgeous arrangement and performance. Thanks for it!
Did u listen Jorge caballero !?
Players that make it seem so effortless are a joy.
¡De sobra!
Have you heard Philip Hii's arrangement and performance? ruclips.net/video/VSf8O3hbNII/видео.html
@@WindsorPro Philip Hii's performance is impressive for its velocity, but I prefer the melodic character of Dejour's. It's as good as it gets.
Brilliant. Pretty much speechless after witnessing that. Amazing.
Congratulations for reinventing Bach' s genius
phenomenal Christoph Dejour!
Outstanding performance!! Thanks for sharing this gift with the world.
Wonderful performance! Bravo! - for the arrangement and for the playing on a guitar a piece which is so hard to perform even on an harpsichord or a piano! More over: your musicality and interpretation is superb. You have found the delicate sound, the natural flow and right velocity of this piece. I think pianists and harpsichordist should learn from you how to perform it in a non-frantic mode. Thanks for this amazing upload.
Your comments are 100% correct.
That fugue performance is sick! 11:55 for instance is absolutely sublime. Well done sir
I am totally blown away by this. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to arrange this astonishing work for guitar.
This guitar sounds and looks so good... There are so many good guitar makers these days...
Fantastisch

A lot of passersby will instantly recognize what an exquisite piece of music this is, but more so than that is Christophe Dejour's phenomenal technique. Wow! Just wow! World class fabulous!
Un très grand artiste, qui possède une maîtrise exceptionnelle de la relaxation du jeu guitaristique, technique expliquée parfaitement dans l'excellent livre de David Leisner.
Christophe, Christophe, Christophe! You expand my view of what the guitar can do! What a gift!
Please publish your arrangement. Absolutely love it!
Bella obra musical interpretada con gran virtuosismo. Felicidades y gracias por compartir.
I thought that I was spoiled by Jorge Caballero's performance of this peice, but not so! This is an amazing performance! Bravo!
Impecable sonido y digitacion.
Amazing, master!
The music and performances are gems. Thank you -John
Absolutely amazing.
Wonderful! Love Bach. As a beginning classical guitarist, your playing is inspirational! The guitar sounds fantastic too!
C'est une très belle interprétation de ce chef d'oeuvre absolu de Jean-Sébastien Bach initialement composé pour clavecin mais dans ce cas le guitariste d'une extrême vélocité lui donne un relief particulier. Bravo
Deeply engaged , and yet clean & clear-cut!
More than perfect...🤓 Brilliant!!!

So happy to listen to your intimate and tender Bach again at the close of the year 2017! Thank you veru much, Christophe!
What a brilliant performance
this is fantatstic work !!!!!!!
i'm in awe of this performance! ! !
Hard!! Very compliment! Guitar virtuoso
A masterful command of technique and a clean sound in the context of some quite musical and expressive playing. Reminiscent of the Chaconne, these are very effective arrangements/transcriptions for the guitar, as everything seems to lie quite naturally on the fingerboard (although appearances can be deceiving), giving the impression that these works were written for the guitar. Bravo! (on both the transcriptions and on the performance).
This is a superior performance!
Fantastic job
Bravo! This is edge performance for such polyphonic piece and totally different instrument for!
Brilliant!!
Amazing! 👏👏👏👏
He is really a master of his instrument! Wow!

Love the vibrato perfect temp and soul. Thank you. Inspiration and beautiful
23 people disliked this. How anyone could not like this just blows my mind. I'd love to know if any of them are guitar players. I find this absolutely wonderful.
Maestro, bravo!!
Holy crap 😮 That’s amazing!
It is just wonderful to listen to this Bach's masterpiece sounding so nicely from a guitar. Congratulations!
Unbelievable display of skill from a true master.
Amazing!
If I were to hear this without the benefit of the video, I would imagine at least 2 guitarists being involved.
An excellent example that seeing - whilst hearing - is believing. What fantastic musicianship.
Thank you Sir - I salute you.
Wow! I love this version, even better than on the keyboard instruments. You bring out so much.
beautiful! well played! Congrats Dude! These channels should have millions followers! love Angelo!
Bravo! Really Good when plays Bach!
WOW! Gorgeous! After hearing it so many times on piano, this guitar version is so fresh and brings new appreciation of this fantastic composition. And what a fantastic performance. Bravo Mr. Dejour!

Amazing performance ! I’ll try to play on my bass.

Excelente interpretación, gracias.
Bravo!
Not to be believed, this thing BWV 903 has been with me forever, never liked it on the Cembalo, and, here on the guitar and just love it, but, in retrospect, the Cembalo is the one to listen too,
Bravo!!
meraviglioso!
👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo!!!
the fuge part is sooooooo complicated. hpw you managed to catch all the voices is beyond me... just amazing!!
Bella ejecución 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
pretty impressive playing
Herculean work to play it in the harpsichord but on the guitar? That's insane! Great transcription and rendering!
Beautifully well done. Totally musical in all respects. This composition fits the instrument very well, but it's obvious that it takes many hours, weeks, and years of practice to prefect it. I can't complement you enough.
Stellar!
Thats astonishing....Before I saw tis video, I thought it wouldn't be enjoyable or even possible.
incredible
Bravissimo grazieeee
